This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of November, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1852], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through her daughter, Mrs. […], via son, Mr. [1693].

At home, approx. Time of Reading 4 mi. So. of …, 10:55 to 11:05 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. North Carolina. (Rte. 1, Box 24)

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before, [1852].

3. As we find, conditions are not so well. There is more inflammation through the intestinal system, as well as the involvement of the functioning of the liver and the kidneys in same, in the present.

4. Unless there is the reduction of the disturbance, we find that these may prove to be rather serious for the physical reactions.

5. Then, as we find:

6. We would use the warm saline enemas, followed with the solution to purify the intestinal system; such as, now, the Alkaline Petrolagar - which would be better for the immediate. Use about a level teaspoonful of salt in the first quart of water, body-temperature, you see; and at least a tablespoonful of the Petrolagar in a quart of water for the rinsing. This (the Petrolagar) should necessarily be kept stirred in the container while it is being used, else it would become so adhering as to not be effective. Use these. of course, in a Fountain Syringe. If necessary, use two quarts of the saline (salt) solution, before using the Petrolagar; rinsing the Syringe, of course, before using the last solution.

7. Also, after the body is thoroughly cleansed, we would use the hot Castor Oil Packs over the area of the colon (side) that is affected. And, following same (after the area has been cleansed with a warm soda water), apply a flannel spread with an equal combination of Mutton tallow (melted), Turpentine and Camphor.

8. These would be the better application.

9. The electrically driven vibrator would be the more helpful, if applied over the area GENTLY, especially in the 9th dorsal to the back of the neck; from the middle of the spine to the neck, see?

10. Such vibratory treatments in the present would be just as helpful as the osteopathic, and there would NOT be such a tiring of the body following same.

11. When these are given, there should be used the hard or ball applicator, as well as the suction (cup); and the application should be directly to the body - or skin.

12. Keep a liquid and semi-liquid diet at least until conditions show a great deal of improvement.

13. Beef juices and vegetable juices are the better; the juices of the raw as well as cooked vegetables, but taken in very small quantities at the time.

14. Ready for questions.

15. (Q) What causes stomach to be tender, and how can food souring be prevented? (A) First there will be necessitated the removal of the poisons, and then the adherence to the suggestions indicated as to the character of diet until the condition has adjusted itself. And then when there IS the better inclination, then there may gradually be added the heavier foods or the more combinations for the body; but the semi-liquids would be first.

When there IS the inclination for souring, use a digestant, - in the form of the powders or ALCAROID or the like, - these will be helpful. Those that carry more of the pepsin will be the better.

16. (Q) Why does fruit or any sweets cause breaking out? (A) The lack of the proper eliminations, and the conditions as we have indicated.

17. (Q) What caused severe pain in left shoulder and arm last Sun. morning? (A) The poisons, in the form of a neuritis.

18. (Q) What causes pain in left side near hip? (A) The expanding or ballooning of the colon in the area, and the effects of poisons and gas. Hence the needs for the eliminations in the manners indicated.

19. (Q) What causes black spots before eyes (right eye worse), and what can be done to correct eyes? (A) The effect upon the nervous system, especially of the kidneys - as indicated - that have become a part of the disturbance in the present reactions.

The removing of the poisons from the system, and the vibratory forces as indicated over the areas from the 9th dorsal to the back of the head, will aid in correcting the condition.

20. (Q) What causes irregular heart beat? (A) The effect of those conditions as indicated, - the disturbed flow of the circulatory forces through liver and kidneys.

Do as has been indicated, if we would bring the better forces for this body.

21. (Q) What causes extreme weakness? (A) Poisons in the system.

22. (Q) Why did I not get stronger after last course of Zilatone? (A) The too soon eating of those foods that did not digest properly.

23. (Q) Any other suggestions for this body? (A) Do these things as indicated, and when the improvements begin, do not commence too soon with foods that are hard of digestion.

R1. 11/16/39 Daughter’s letter:

Dear Gladys:

I am at my Mothers. She had two spells with her heart Thursday Nov 9th, so I came home Friday. She can’t seem to get her strength.

She is on a liquid diet as the reading said. She takes Beef & Veg juice also Beef broth, Chicken broth & warm milk.

Her Gall bladder seems to bother her.

How often should she take the enemas and Oil packs?

She says she feels better in her stomach but what she eats weakens her rather than strengthen.

I have ordered a Violet Ray outfit like the one you told me to look at, at Mr. Geo. Andersons. Is that the right kind to use?

It doesn’t have a “cup” attachment but has the bulb. Let me know right away so if it isn’t right I can get another while I’m home. If that is OK, and the cup is necessary I can get an electric vibrator with the small cup attachment.

Alkaroid doesn’t seem to sweeten her stomach. Can you recommend anything that will be better. All of the food sours soon after she takes it.

R2. 11/18/39 GD’s letter to [1852]‘s daughter:

Dear Mrs. […]

Your mother’s last Check Physical calls for an electrically driven Vibrator and NOT a Violet Ray. They are entirely different. The Vibrator is to take the place of the massage, or to be given AS a massage in place of the osteopathic treatments. The Violet Ray is what Mrs. Anderson has, and is not what you want in this case at all, - though I believe it was called for once in [niece [1594]]‘s reading, or one of the others. The Vibrator doesn’t even LOOK like a Violet Ray, I don’t know how to explain the difference in a letter, but if you will go to a drug house or electrical place and ask to see an Electric Vibrator, you will see what is meant by the Reading - and you want to get one with two applicators (it has several), - the hard ball applicator (which is usually black), and a suction cup (which is usually made out of rubber) and looks very much like one of these rubber stoppers used in bath tubs - the rubber, I mean.

The enemas should be taken every day if it is necessary in order to get a movement, or to relieve gas pressure. If the bowels move without enemas, then once or twice a week. The Oil Packs should be used three or four times a week, until she is much better.

If the Alcaroid doesn’t work, you might try BiSoDol, which is another alkaline digestant - carrying some Pepsin, I think, which is what the Reading suggested.

I certainly hope she is much better by now, and that you can soon get all the treatments going.

R3. 1/31/40 Daughter’s letter:

Dear Gladys:

I really intended writing you before but mama seemed to be getting along alright. She hasn’t been doing so well lately and has had two of those heart spells, the last one last night. She is awfully weak today and everything she tries to take for nourishment seems to weaken her. When she drinks milk or broth her heart races so she can hardly make out. She says her stomach feels like it is raw inside and it seems to come from acid. Also her mouth gets raw. Her elimination is very poor. I give her an enema every night and the vibrator treatment every night also an oil pack every other day. None of it seems to do any good. When she has those spells she gets real cold like she has a chill and it takes a long time to warm her up.

I want to get a check reading for her soon as possible. She will be right here in bed so there is no need to notify us. I want it tomorrow if possible.

I have been here since Nov. but expect to go home next week. I will pay you for this then.

I am sending some questions. You can make out any others you can get from this letter.
