This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of March, 1939, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Sponsored Membership in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc, recommended by Mrs. [1010], and sponsored (through decision of Membership & Reading Committee) by Mr. Edward J. Barber, 17 Battery Place, New York City, Active Member of the Association. This Sponsored Membership fee of $20 may be repaid by mother of [1854] to the Ass”n as she is able, to be applied to the fee for another member who is unable to pay.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions which may be submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: We have the body here, [1854].

3. Now as we find, there is a complication of disturbances; and these ofttimes work one against another, - that is:

4. The conditions which exist in the organs, - as in the lungs, as in the assimilating forces in the digestive system, these work against the applications that may be made for the intestinal disturbance.

5. Hence as we find, these must be taken into consideration in giving those suggestions for administrations that would be beneficial to the body in both directions.

6. As we find, then:

7. The conditions in the lung forces are not true tubercular in their nature. They arise from infectious forces as come through the blood stream from a genital disturbance. Hence they may be aided by the use of Apple Brandy Inhalations from a keg. This would be the manner of preparation:

8. To a gallon oak charred keg put one-half gallon of Pure Apple Brandy. Make a small hole and a larger one, or sufficient that a tube may be put in same, - this would be in the end of the keg, you see; so that there may be the inhaling of the gas that arises from the evaporation (not taking the brandy itself proper, you see, but the fumes from same). Keep both openings tightly corked when not in use. These fumes would be inhaled two or three times during each day, especially early of morning and before retiring of evening. Keep the keg near heat, where evaporation would continue to take place. Hence keep tightly corked so that the fumes that form, or gas formed by evaporation, may not escape. When ready to inhale, open the small hole (for air) and inhale through the tube (or such) into the throat and lungs.

9. Also for this condition, take one-half grain of Calcidin each evening.

10. As for the pains that appear through the side, the prolapsus of the rectal area, - these naturally must be cared for in a manner as to cause the proper eliminations through the alimentary canal. Hence as the greater laxative, and to cleanse the colon, we would use colonic irrigations.

11. Have prepared the low electrical vibratory forces for the properties as will act with the vibratory forces of the body; the low Wet Cell Appliance, you see, carrying Gold AND Atomidine, alternately; one taken one day, the other the next. The attachments would be made in this manner:

The first day, the small copper plate would be attached to the lumbar axis, while the larger nickel plate through which the Atomidine (full or commercial strength) would pass would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus. This attachment would be made for one hour, every other day.

13. The next day (or the days between the Atomidine attachments, you see), the small copper plate would be attached to the 9th dorsal plexus, while the larger nickel plate - through which the Gold Solution passes (in the proportion of one grain Chloride of Gold to each ounce of Distilled Water) - would be attached also to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus, the same as the day before when the Atomidine was used. This attachment (with the Gold) would be for thirty minutes, every other day. (The attachment of the nickel plate EACH day, you see, would be to the umbilical and lacteal duct area, - or three fingers from the navel center towards the right side.)

14. After thirty days the Appliance would be recharged, you see; but every fifteen days the Gold and the Atomidine solutions should be changed.

15. Every evening when ready to retire, we would give the body a gentle massage with an equal combination of Peanut Oil and Olive Oil; especially across the diaphragm area and the whole of the cerebrospinal system; that the body, through the plexus areas along the cerebrospinal system, may absorb the vibratory forces as well as the activities of this combination.

16. In the diet, - keep to those foods that are body-building.

17. We would add Calcios as an aid to supplying greater quantity of calcium for the combining of the effect of the iodine taken from the Calcidin internally and the Atomidine vibratorially for the system. We would take the Calcios once each day, about the amount that would be spread on as butter, you see, to cover a cracker.

18. Fish, fowl and lamb may be taken as the meats. NO FRIED FOODS AT ANY TIME!

19. A portion of one meal each day should consist of raw vegetables.

20. Cereals should never be taken with the citrus fruits, - or at the same meal. Take these on different days even.

21. Do these, and after the period of the second charge of the Appliance (which would be after sixty days of using same, you see), we would give further instructions.

22. Ready for questions.

23. (Q) What is causing the condition of his tongue? (A) The extreme reactions from examinations that have been made.

24. (Q) What should be done for that? (A) Use those things which we have indicated.

25. (Q) What causes the terrible drawing of his spine? (A) The incoordination between cerebrospinal and sympathetic system. Hence the use of the oils for the rub each day when ready to retire.

26. (Q) Has it been caused by the syphilitic infection? (A) As has been indicated.

27. We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

Thought I had better report a little to you.

I have been some time getting supplies together for the Wet Cell Appliance so did not get started for 3 weeks after getting your instructions for my son.

I will report to you later as to his progress. I feel like his condition is too serious to show much signs of improvement for some time and hasn’t had time yet to show but very little. I feel it will be slow but sure.

Thanking you again for the interest shown and that you are enjoying the best of health. I will ask for your prayers for I need God in my life more each day and his guiding help to keep me in the paths of safety to give me health and strength to bear the burdens heart-aches and hardships of this life so that I will be ready when the summons comes to enter that home He has prepared for all who trust and obey.

Pray for my Boy too that he may have His way in his life and if it is His will to heal his afflicted body and spare him to do His will in all things.

I will let you hear from me again soon.

Thanks for yours of the 20th - do hope you will soon see a great improvement in the young man. May be too soon but you should be able to see changes soon and if you don’t let’s check up and see what is the trouble.

We have a special prayer group Mrs. […] - would you care for us to put your self and boy on this list. If so fill out the enclosed blank - this is as you see no joining of any thing - is a privilege that the membership to the Ass’n gives you if you wish it.

B1. 3/31/39 History of [1854]‘s case extracted from his mother’s correspondence, for Mr. Edward J. Barber who sponsored the Reading.

B2. 1/14/39 Letter: “It is my 23 year old son whom I am asking aid for. He has been under a doctor’s care for 3 years but his condition has improved but very little in that time.

“In fact, I do not see how he can live unless he can get a great deal better. In the past year I have spent around five hundred dollars trying to get him well. My funds are now exhausted and unless I can make arrangements with you to pay you a small amount per month to give him a Reading, I do not see any further hope for him, as I have done all in my power to save his life.

“He is my only boy and I am getting up in years and it’s so hard to be submissive to God’s will, as I need him so very much.

“Mrs. […] told me of you 2 years ago when I was living in …, asking me to consult you about myself. She wrote me about a month ago what a wonderful healing you had given her in the loss of her limbs, still urging me to get in touch with you.

“I have spent so much trying to get my boy well, I could not afford to spend it on myself. Please allow me to pay you so much per month, as that is the best I can do and buy the medicine it will take, - say around 3 or 4 per month, if agreeable with you, so I can begin treatment for him at once.”

B3. 2/21/39 Letter: “I know you think it strange of me not writing, but will try to explain. Before receiving your last letter my son grew so much worse I had to put him back in the Hospital, as I stated my circumstances to you, I put him here in the University Hospital of Ga. on the staff.

“Three years ago he caught syphilis and has been almost under constant care of doctors. Especially the past year here he has been under a very fine specialist in this disease. We gave him 6 heat treatments at $20 apiece this time last year, and every two or three months since then we have given him a round of shots of “Thiobisarson” but his suffering is terrible, and sore all over to the touch, especially through shoulders, chest and hips - where he is drawn,

• can’t straighten up and hasn’t been able to stoop and tie his shoes in 3 years. We thought it had reached his spine and brain, but they X-Rayed his whole body, made 2 spinal punctures and all tests were negative and they claim this disease is cured.

“They find, tho, his diaphragm on one side (left) is some higher than the other and his lung has a spot on the inside of it, - but surely this would not cause this rheumatic or arthritic condition (whichever it might be), the stiffness and soreness all over. - can’t even turn over in bed.

“I know if he can’t get relief from this suffering it will cause him to be a dope fiend and he can’t live suffering like this much longer.

“Just as soon as I get able to I want you to see what you can do for him, as I just do not have the money to have you do so just now. If he can live until then, surely I will have some soon, I believe you can cure him and will tell me the truth about his condition. He is my only boy and I have almost lost my mind over his condition, as he has always been a good Christian boy and the first time I allowed him to take a job away from home he got himself into this, not knowing people and the ways of life.

“I have all confidence in your ability to heal him, as I know what you have done for Mrs. [1010], and she told me you would do all that was in your power in his case and I believe it.

“I have only a small income of $50 a month for 3 of us to live on, a girl still in high school, so you can just imagine what I have to spend when we get sick.

“However, please let me know what you think of his case soon, as they are going to let me know in 3 weeks whether to put him in a T.B. Sanitorium.”

B4. 2/28/39 “Your letter received yesterday, so am writing you this morning, as I am so anxious to get this boy better or well if it is possible.

“He is back from Hospital. They have not given him one thing to even relieve his pain, - only aspirin, which is no more than a drink of water to him.

“They say he has Arthritis in some vertebra of lower spine causing this pain.

“Of course, Mr. Cayce, if I had four or five hundred dollars to spend they might do something for him but charity cases do not stand much chance here, as they have more than they can take care of. They cannot give him heat treatments again on account of lungs, - which they say is about all that can be done to relieve his pain.

“If he could get well and strong enough to do heavy work, would be able to get his job back any time as the Company likes him and he was making $160 per month.

“I know your time is very valuable and can get all the patients you can handle and ones who are able to pay you for your services. I can’t do that just now, but if you are willing to give him a Reading and trust me to pay you later, and as I can, will appreciate all you do, - as I can do so when we get caught up with a few doctors’ and drug bills which must be paid, and I try my best to live honest and pay all I owe but it’s hard without this boy’s help as he is my only support.

“I feel like Mrs. […] and God has led me to you, and through your help more is going to be done than ever has been done to restore this boy to health for God knows my circumstances and I have prayed so earnestly for some way to be provided for me to get something done for him, and He has heard and answered my prayers before and He will again.”

B5. 3/8/39 “In regard to my son’s Reading March 10th, will say that he has had to go back to Hospital for two weeks for more examinations. This will be the last time he will have to go, as they wanted to see what developments would show up after his first trip there 3 weeks ago.

“As you know, he is on the staff and if he fails to go at the time they call for him he fails to get free hospitalization or any of the rest of us.

“I am very sorry this has come up just at this particular time but it is a condition I cannot help. As I know you have to have cooperation while giving this Reading, and with some of the painful tests he is having to undergo I know that his mind cannot be centered on anyone thing. He will be finished with all tests out there by March 18th, Sat. morning. I feel fortunate to be given any of your valuable time, but will say that no matter what they do or suggest at Hospital, I am putting him under your treatment just as soon as I receive your instructions.

B6. 3/18/39 “I can’t get much out of the doctors, only he has this spot on left lung, complete prolapsus of rectum, and they do not seem to know what is causing the condition his tongue is in, - it coats over real white, peels off, leaving it very red with something like growths or blisters around the edge. They do not seem to be able to locate the trouble causing this. He suffers excruciating pain in sides, back, chest and shoulders with this stiff, rheumatic condition.

“They cannot give him any more heat treatments on account of his lung, - in fact, they say his case in unusual and unless this venereal disease shows up later on they can’t say just what his trouble is, and that we can only put him in a T.B. Sanitorium for treatment.

“I feel sure you can do wonders for him and if it is God’s will he will be well again. The only thing I regret is that I am not able to pay you now, but will just as soon as I can, and as often as possible; for you are the only person I know that has offered your services so willingly, as I have spent all I have trying to get him well and with it all he is very little better than he was in the beginning, - is drawn in a terrible shape, almost like a hunchback and I’m afraid he will eventually get like one if he can’t get relief.

“Twelve doctors have looked him over, - specialists in lung, heart, bone, liver, brain, kidney, nerve, muscles, - ex-rayed his whole body, besides all the tests they made, two spinal punctures, blood and spinal punctures all negative. But just 2 months before taking and making these tests he had taken 12 of those shots and I believe they have kept it from showing up, as it seems to me he suffers too much with his spine not to be in it. I’m sorry I can’t tell or explain his condition any better, but you know better than I can tell you already.”
