This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of September, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [1866].

EC: Yes, we have the body here - this we have had before. Now, we find in many respects the body is much bettered than as from those conditions as existed in body before; yet we find disorders and a distress through the activities of the sympathetic nerve forces, as related to those of the SENSORY system - as is indicated by the conditions existent with the eyes, the throat, and with the general nervous system.
-
While we will find that the manipulations, and the activities of the manipulations and corrective forces as are being applied - or may be applied to the body for these corrective measures - these will aid materially in correcting those of the blood supply and the nerve energy, as in their relation TO the sensory system - but for the eyes themselves proper, we will find that - will there be used those of the Degnen’s lens for same [Made by Radium Appliance Co. in Los Angeles.] - these will materially aid. These, as we find, should be used for from thirty to thirty-five minutes each day. This, we would find, would be better were they used just before retiring. Then, when these have been used, use those of the scraped pulp of the Irish potato over the eye socket itself; bathing same off - when this is removed - with a mild solution of those acids as cleanse for the eyes themselves, see? so that there will be no infection from same. This we would do at least EVERY OTHER day, see? but keep the manipulative measures, and build up the general system as related to the VITALITY of the body itself, using as much of the olive oil and those of beef or calves’ liver as the system will digest. Do not take large quantities of the oils at one time, but as much as the body WILL assimilate. Well, or better, to take OFTEN and in SMALL quantities, that the system assimilates same and it becomes as food values for the whole of the digestive and assimilating system; so that the blood supply, and that as is assimilated, carries as much of those vitamins as necessary to replenish those that are lacking in a portion of the white blood itself in the body. Keep this up, and we will find this will bring a normalcy to this body, [1866]. Ready for questions. We are through with this reading.

Dear Miss [1866]
We are enclosing a copy of the information obtained this afternoon through the reading. I am certainly in hopes that you will find it complete.
These Degnen’s lens are made by the Radium Appliance Company in Los Angeles. We are enclosing the address. I am sure they will be glad to send you all literature and instructions regarding same. We have used these lens in the hospital and have found them very beneficial. I’m sure you will too, along with the other treatments prescribed.
Hoping you will let us hear from you again soon, as to how you get along, and with kindest personal regards and best wishes to the whole family from all of us here, I am
Sincerely,
EC:GD.
P.S. If there are any questions you would like to ask regarding any part of the reading, don’t hesitate to write us. You know we are only too glad to do what we can.

My dear Mr. Cayce,
I rec’d your letter also reading for which I thank you.
I wrote immediately to Los Angeles and sent it “air mail” but have rec’d no information as yet.
I did not understand, from the reading, whether I was to continue wearing my glasses while using these “Degnen’s Lens” or not. That was the part that I am particularly interested in. What is your understanding? It would mean a lot to me to know whether my present glasses are right for me or whether I should try others or none at all.
Surely do have my troubles, don’t I?
Also, how long would you suggest leaving the potato poultice on? Best regards to all - and “MANY THANKS” Most cordially,
R3. 10/14/30 EC’s ltr. to [1866]:
Miss [1866] …, Ohio
Dear Miss [1866]
You no doubt have received the glasses from Los Angeles and have already gotten the information from them, that this has nothing to do with your wearing other glasses. These lens only treat the eyes. In the course of a week or so, after you have used these lens, we will try to include a check-up on the condition, if you so desire, and see whether your other glasses should be changed or not, and just what the change should be.
I surely am in hopes that you get along nicely. Be sure to let me hear right along, and we will take this up in a check reading as soon as you have had an opportunity to try the lens for a time.
Hoping this is satisfactory, and that everyone else is well - with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely,
EC:GD.
R4. 10/29/30 Her father, Mr. [287] reported on his own Ck. Rdg. 287-8, then added: P.S. By the way, [1866] is just looking fine and received her glasses the other day from the west. The osteopathic treatments are doing her a world of good. She wondered why you did not say something about her glasses. I told her that I was sure the glasses she had were all right or you would have said so, and she now finds that since she has been taking the osteopathic treatment that her eyes are much better, and her glasses too are much more satisfactory.

My dear Mr. Cayce:-
I received your letter of Oct. 14th, and I surely would appreciate a “check up”, if you can arrange it.
I am so anxious to know whether my present glasses are alright or would it be possible for me to go without glasses except for close work.
I was so much better until I started to wear the “Degnen’s Lens”. They make my eyes water - burn and also brings on a slight headache which often lasts for hours. I do not know whether that is a natural reaction or not.
I am fairly comfortable though now for distance & music but still can not read or sew.
If you can arrange a check-up, please have Mrs. Cayce - be SURE to ASK about THE GLASSES.
I do hope that you are all well. The best of wishes to you.
R6. 11/10/30 EC’s ltr. to [1866]:
Mrs. [1866] …, Ohio
Dear Miss [1866]:
Replying to yours of the 5th, we are making an appointment for your check-up for the afternoon of Monday the 17th, between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 o’clock, Eastern Standard Time. Be sure and let us know if you can keep the appointment, and just where you will be.
It would be my guess, Miss [1866] that you either wear those lens too long a time or that you attempt to do it with the eyes open - for they should ease rather than irritate the condition. They throw off some radiation that should be - and has been in nearly every case we have had - most beneficial, but we will check up on this and see if we can get it all straightened out for you. We will make not of the questions and try to have them answered.
Sincerely,
EC:GD

Dear Mr. Cayce:-
Thank you so much for arranging a check-up. I will be at my home, …, apt. 4 - Monday afternoon from 3 to 5 - Nov. 17.
I am still having trouble with those “Degnen’s Lens”. I wear them as you directed in last reading - and with eyes closed. They do make my eyes hurt badly and even in to the next morning.
Of course, it MAY be that putting my own glasses on is what makes them continue to hurt.
I am so much better, physically. Think that the Osteopath and olive oil have done wonders.
PLEASE find out -
- If I should continue to wear my own glasses and whether I should try to work into the Bi-focals and music glasses.
- If I could go without GLASSES ONLY FOR close work.
You see, I have had so much trouble that I have almost concluded that I would be better off without them.
Please accept this enclosed check.
With personal regards to you all from Doctor and myself - I am
Most cordially yours,
R8. 11/17/30 See 1866-8.
Background
Background
B1. Previous rdgs. had been obtained for t.b., ulcers, etc.
B2. 9/15/30 “Guess I will have to come to you for help again - this time for my eyes. I have had all kinds of trouble with my eyes for the past yr. Have been to 4 oculists in that time and every one says something different and prescribes glasses - all of which have almost made a wreck of my nervous system. My vision is as good as ever but I cannot do any close work or concentrate on anything, and I will have to give up my organ if I don’t soon get some relief. This last doctor has prescribed bi-focals, also an extra pair for music. The bi-focals nearly made me crazy, so I had a pair of distance glasses made from that prescription, and I am to try to work into the bi-focals gradually. Maybe they are what I need but I have had so much trouble that I have almost lost faith. Will you please tell me what is wrong with my eyes? How can it be corrected? Should I continue to wear the glasses that I now am wearing and try to work into the bi-focals? Would I be better without any glasses, only for close work?
“I started in taking osteopathic treatments yesterday, for I felt that is what you would tell me for one thing.”
