GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: (In going back over the years from present - ” - ‘36 - very bad - ‘35 - not so good - ‘33 - very good - ‘29 ’ many changes - ” etc., on back to birth date.)
-
EC: We have the records here of that entity now known as [1872].
-
The visions and experiences of the entity in the present are not as hopeful as might be expected, even from the interpretations of the records as we find them here, - and the abilities, and the qualifications - as might be termed - in the broader sense.
-
However, there YET may be happiness, hope, and an experience that will make for continued developments through this sojourn, if there will be the application of those tenets that are of a constructive nature in a part of the experience.
-
Hence in choosing those portions of the life’s record to be interpreted from the records as we find them here, these are chosen with the desire to make the experience one that may be helpful in the present period of confusion.
-
In giving the interpretations then, we find these, - but irrespective of what the entity has done or may do about same, - as the urges arising from the attempted coordinations between the astral experiences as well as the material sojourns in the earth:
-
One that easily adapts itself, ordinarily, to any condition, - if it is a hopeful one; yet one that easily becomes discouraged with confusion and the lack of love and CONSTRUCTIVE thinking or experiences about the entity.
-
One that has many virtues that are adaptable to clean, clear thinking.
-
One that desires to express emotion in material as well as in spiritual ways and manners.
-
One interested in all influences of a religious, emotional or a metaphysical nature. Hence psychic, occult influences or forces are a part of the experience of the entity.
-
Oft is the entity inclined to explain same away by that termed by others as rational thinking.
-
In giving the interpretation of the records here, we find one coming - from the astrological aspects - under the influence of Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Saturn, - these as combined with the Uranian forces.
-
For the entity is an Atlantean, - hence one that becomes very eccentric in the experiences of activity with others at times, or an extremist.
-
In Venus we find the adaptability, - the home loving, - the ability to create a beautiful environ; and adapting itself to circumstances, conditions, - if they are, as indicated, of a hopeful nature.
-
In Venus, as combined WITH the Jupiterian, we find influences that have to do with individuals but AFFECTING larger groups, or the masses, through individual activity.
-
Hence in that of home building, and in the vocational capacity as secretary or statistician, may the entity find the outlets for its abilities and influences from the Mercurian sojourn.
-
For the high mental efficiency, clean and clear thinking are a part of the entity’s activity.
-
In the Uranian influence, as indicated, we find the extremes, as well as in the influences from Saturn that will bring changes of an extreme nature in the influence of this entity.
-
As we find, these also are in the extremes through the Venus or home influence, and the Saturn and Uranian; bringing periods when there will be - as in the present - estrangements in marital relationships. Indeed these may arise to such an extent that extreme measures may be necessary to be taken, for not only the safety of the material health but for the bringing of greater opportunities for active service in the creative influences and forces in self’s experience.
-
Hence these, as combined with the experiences of the entity through the material sojourns (as will be given here), may indicate the activities necessary for the entity to accomplish in the present experience the conditions and forces necessary for the greater developments.
-
As to the appearances or sojourns in the earth, - these, as we find, while not so many in number as to individual appearances, are quite varied; and have decided effects upon the innate and manifested urges in the experience of the entity in the present:
-
Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods of what is now called the American Revolution - or independence.
-
In the experience the entity was active during those periods of hardship brought about by the activities in the land of the soldiery; bringing about disturbing forces not only to self but anxieties as to the general OUTCOME of the activities and associations.
-
The name then was Florence Etterworth, and the entity was among those of a family very close to the activities of - and favoring - the Crown; yet the ASSOCIATIONS and activities of the entity were among those who were FOR the freedom, - and the union by the wedding brought those disturbing influences for the entity.
-
Yet with the period of reconstruction, we find that the entity was active in saving much of those influences that were wrought by the changes in the family associations.
-
Hence, in the present we find the innate desire to preserve those influences that are hopeful, - as related to the home; and yet, as in that experience, portions of the family (as are a part of the self in family in the present) made such activities as to bring the NECESSITY of the entity declaring itself to join in the better forces for its OWN offspring.
-
So may it become a part of the experience in the present to arouse those forces in others for greater activity towards a social, a political and an economic order.
-
Before that we find the entity was again in those periods of reconstruction, but under a different order, - when the edicts of the King in the Persian land made it possible for the return of the children of promise to the Hold Land for the rebuilding, the reestablishing of the temple as well as the city of promise.
-
We find the entity was among those who came with the earlier portion, or under Zerubbabel. And while there were periods of turmoil, periods of anxiety, there was builded the greater service in the temple and its activities, - in the closer associations with those who would establish the home first, as might be called, or the altar in the home.
-
And these brought into the experience of the entity then, as Shumel, the great abilities of creative forces as to the establishing of home, the establishing of associations with others in their aids to build better environments for children, for the teaching of others for activity in individual service, - as in vocational training and activities.
-
Hence all of these influences will become in the present sojourn a part of the entity’s activity and choice; that there first must come the analyzing of self and its desires, its hopes, its aspirations.
-
And know that these, as in that experience, are founded upon constructive forces of a spiritual import; and that the activities and associations with others may bring - as during those experiences - the greater regard for, the greater consistency in, NOT mere lip service but the actual heart and mind service towards spiritual things.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those experiences when the young from the Atlantean land were brought into the Egyptian land. The entity was among those Atlanteans, but young in years when brought into the activities in the Egyptian land.
-
There we find the entity, with the correlation of the activities of the teachers of the Atlantean peoples, and the Priest who was restored to activity, became very close in associations with the Priest for the preparation of individuals for the greater service among not only its own peoples but the peoples of every land.
-
Hence we find the entity in that experience, as Te-Et-Aael, became one close to the Priest in KEEPING the stations, or wardrobe and stations of the Priest during that portion of its sojourn there; thus becoming as a helper in those activities when others were sent for service in other lands, - as an instructor of those who went as ministers and emissaries for activities in other fields; acting in the capacity then of what would today be called a secretary to the Priest for the carrying out of other activities in other lands.
-
As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:
-
First, study to show self approved unto God, in all good conscience, as to what IS thy ideal - in relationships to that form of service or activity as to God. What is thy ideal relationship as to home? For, know that such is as a pattern of that HOPED for in a heavenly home.
-
And if each entity would so live in this material sojourn as if it were for an eternal home, much more beauty, much more joy, much more peace would be attained.
-
If it requires, then, the severance of those present relationships for the acquiring of, or the attaining to such a relationship in this material sojourn, act IN that manner - as in all good conscience - that there may be the greater, the more beautiful, the more hopeful expression in the experience in the present.
-
Such a choice can only be made by self. Not as in a passive, but as in an ACTIVE way and manner.
-
As to the material activities, - in the capacity of the homemaker may the greater joys and the greater expression of self come.
-
The channels for material service may come as a helpmeet in secretarial manners, or in activities where there may be used those ABILITIES in the directions of writing, of keeping accounts.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is there anything I can do to make my husband fall in love with me again? (A) There needs to be rather those separations there, - unless physical conditions with the husband, in his idea OF material relationships, are changed by surgery.
-
(Q) Why do we seem to have so little in common, so little to talk about? (A) As indicated, these are the meeting of self from those experiences through the sojourn just previous to this, - when the relationships were rather as father and daughter; yet BROUGHT relationships where it required the separate activities for the greater benefit of each.
And so it may become here, UNLESS those activities of a material nature - and physical conditions - are changed.
-
(Q) Why does he seem to have lost all physical love for me? (A) As indicated, - it is a physical defect, - a PHYSICAL condition in that body - the husband.
-
(Q) What has come between us? (A) As indicated, it is a physical defect, - not a mental, not a purposeful one. But the entity must choose for itself, see?
Do, then, that as indicated. Study within self, first: What is thy ideal, spiritually, - thy ideal home? Not as to what is the ideal thing that OTHERS should do, but the ideal manner that YE should do! And do that!
- We are through for the present.

R1. 5/8/39 EC’s letter to [1872]:
Dear [1872]:
Wish might have the opportunity to go over the information with you, but after you have read it over carefully several times then write me, asking any and all questions you like. Sincerely hope you find something that will help at this time. Know that is our desire to Help.
Let me hear from you
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R2. 5/18/39 [1872]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce
Thank you so much for the reading and your kind letter which followed it. I have read it carefully and would appreciate your clarifying the following portions of the reading:
- On the first page, the paragraph second from the bottom [1872-1, Par. 5] reading, “However, there YET may be happiness, hope and an experience that will make for continued developments through this sojourn, if there will be the application of those tenets that are of a constructive nature in a part of the experience.”
What must I do to attain this happiness. Does it lie with my husband, or elsewhere?
(Q) Is there anything I can do to make my husband fall in love with me again? (A) There needs to be rather those separations there - unless physical conditions with the husband, in his idea of material relationships, are changed by surgery.”
What does the sentence mean, “There needs to be rather those separations there-”?
Do you know what sort of an operation my husband requires?
Thanking you for your help, I am
Sincerely yours [1872]
R3. 5/22/39 EC’s letter to [1872]:
Dear Mrs. [1872]:
Thank you for yours of the 18th. Just wish could sit down and talk with you about all this. Is so hard to try and write, with out it appearing that some one point must be stressed with out due consideration given the rest, but please consider all the information given and the answers to those you ask about in the light of the other advice.
If it is possible for you to get your Husband to have something done for him self - just what do not know - but some good Dr should be able to locate the trouble. Would be glad to try if he would ask, but with out that - and the inference is that he won’t - then you may find that as you seek some where else and would bring about the change in your environs and present experience all of which as you are told again and again, must be the matter of your own choice. Can’t you come to the Congress here this year. Begins on the 15th of June, lasts four days. Would make a nice week and for you and not a very expensive trip. Think you would enjoy it and we might be able to get a better understanding but studying the information over more carefully.
Sincerely hoping to have been of some service
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R4. 2/21/40 HLC’s letter to [1872]:
Mrs. [1872] …, N.J.
Dear Mrs. [1872]:
In going through our files I find a copy of your Life Reading which was given last May. AS we are trying to bring our records up to date, we shall greatly appreciate your help in securing a report of this Reading. Just how well did your Life Reading analyze your characteristics and abilities? I notice that there are a number of statements given which it should be possible to check. For example: “One interested in all influences of religious, emotion or meta-physical nature; one that easily adapts itself,” etc. These, and many other characteristics described, are either correct or incorrect. Do you feel that this Reading contained helpful advice and guidance?
Please go over your Reading again before writing me, and make your report as full as possible. There is one point in which we are particularly interested, which should be subject to a very definite checking. It is a most unusual clairvoyant demonstration, if it is possible to secure a definite statement regarding it. You will remember that you asked a question regarding a situation, the answer to which indicated the cause as being a definite physical condition which should be corrected. Were you able to check this in any way?
You understand, of course, that these records are entirely impersonal, - they bear only a number in our files, and no names are involved. We are interested in this not only as a means of helping you personally, but from a scientific point of view. I shall greatly appreciate your cooperation in letting us have a report on this case.
I am sure you will be interested in our Expansion Program. The Association, which is studying and presenting my father’s work, is undertaking to have the thousands of Readings in our files indexed, and subject material extracted under various headings. We have amassed a most amazing collection of psychic data, perhaps one of the most unusual in the history of psychical research. It is our feeling that every individual whose Readings are a part of these records will want to have a part in this program, not only from the standpoint of personal reasons but as a means of extending the scientific study of psychic subjects. I hope you will give the enclosed pamphlet careful consideration.
We shall look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce, Manager [hlc:gd]

Gentlemen
Some time ago, probably sometime between the years 1936 to 1939 I met Mr. Edgar Cayce at a meeting of the Psychic Forum in the McAlpin Hotel, where he was lecturing. At that time he made an appointment with me for a life reading, transcript of which he sent me about a month later.
Since that time I have lost my reading, and wonder if it would be possible for me to obtain a copy of it, and what the cost would be.
I have recently read the new book on Mr. Cayce by Mr. Millard and found it extremely interesting.
With best wishes for the continued success of your work, I remain
Cordially [1872]

P.S. At the time I obtained the reading my name was Mrs. [1872] and I lived in …, New Jersey.

Gentlemen
I wrote you several days ago relative to obtaining a copy of my life reading, which Edgar Cayce made for me quite some time ago. At the time I obtained the reading I did not ask for a health reading due to the fact I was fairly free from physical ailments. However, for many years since that time I have suffered from migraine headaches, and am wondering if Mr. Cayce has done any readings on this subject, and if you have some standard treatment on this condition, I would be happy to have it and try it, and would appreciate word from you as to the cost of same.
Sincerely [1872]
…, St. Honolulu, Hawaii
P.S. At the time I obtained my life reading, my name was [1872], and it would probably be filed under the ”[…]‘s.”
R7. 8/30/56 Note: “Please prepare my Life Reading and send via airmail. Am enclosing airmail stamps. Money order enclosed. Cordially, [1872]”

Gentlemen
Att: Membership & Reading Committee
I am very anxious to have a reading by Mr. Cayce, but cannot at present afford the membership fee of $20, and would appreciate information concerning sponsored memberships.
I do not know what class my reading would come under, so will leave that up to you. I have been married 6 years, and I would like to know if there is any thing I could do to make my husband fall in love with me again.
I know there is nobody else, as we are together every evening, but we now seem to have nothing in common at all, and do not live as man and wife.
If there is any chance for happiness again for us, I would like to know how to find it.
Thanking you for your interest, I am
Sincerely yours [1872]

Mr. Edgar Cayce c/o Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
My dear Mr. Cayce
I wish to thank you very much for your kind letter of April 3rd, and am enclosing a money order for $5 and hope you will be able to have the balance sponsored by some member.
I don’t know what kind of a reading is required, but will leave that up to your own judgment. As I mentioned in a previous letter, I would like you to read my husband in an effort to find out what has come between us and if it can be rectified, what course of action you would recommend.
We have been married almost 6 years and live with my mother-in-law. (It is impossible for us to live alone, due to certain financial circumstances and the death of her husband two years ago.) My husband and I seem to have almost nothing in common and very little to talk about, leading very quiet lives. He seems to have lost all physical love for me, although he is very pleasant otherwise, and we have not (except on rare occasions) lived as man or wife for several years. He seems to think we lead quite a normal life and I should be satisfied. I think he has an idea that the intimacies that generally go with married life are wrong and should only be indulged in if you want children, which he does not, nor can we afford them.
His name is […], age 31, born March 17, 1908, address …, N.J., place of birth, Jersey City, N.J., occupation salesman, name of father and mother, […] and […].
Hoping you will be able to help us, I remain
Sincerely yours [1872]
P.S. If you wish to refer to my first letter, it was signed under my maiden name, [1872].
B3. 5/1/39 [1872]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce
I wish to thank you for the kind interview you gave me last week at the McAlpin. I left you, feeling a lot better and more encouraged.
Since you believe you can better diagnose my husband’s mental condition and attitude towards marriage thru me, I am giving you the following information for whatever type of reading you think best. I believe you suggested a life reading.
Name: (Baptized) [1872] (Married name ([1872]) Date of Reading - May 5 - 3:30 - 4:30 EST Address: …
Can you see any chance for a normal, happy life together such as we enjoyed the first year we were together? No one could have been closer or happier than we were. However, if it cannot be regained, I should like to know now, before I am too old to build up another life.
Thanking you again for your kindness, I remain
Cordially yours, [1872]
A doctor and psychologist who is familiar with both my husband and me, said I should leave my husband and perhaps he would change and want me back.
