This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of May, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1880], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [257].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions which prevent the better normal functioning.
-
These as we find arise from those disturbances with or IN the digestive system.
-
In some times back there were those medicinal properties taken that had, or their basic activity was, mercury.
-
This caused a thickening in the lower portion of the stomach and a contraction in the duodenum.
-
Thus from time to time we have had a spasmodic reaction from same; causing at one time the inclination towards a diarrhea condition and at another time the lack of the proper activity. Of course, through sympathetic conditions arising from the temperature in those portions of the body, - the disturbed condition in liver and gall duct activity, - THESE tend to make for the lack of proper eliminations through alimentary canal.
-
These conditions within the organs themselves have naturally caused a retention activity in the areas along the cerebrospinal system from which impulses arise for activity from the nervous forces.
-
Hence we find that lesions of a CIRCULAR nature have been caused about those ganglia especially in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th dorsal area. With the natural resulting conditions of these inflammatory forces, there have been disturbances through the lumbars, - or through those areas of the lower hepatic circulation, that have caused some stiffness and heaviness across the lumbar or lower portion of the back and through the hips.
-
All of these effects become then the results, and are rather the sympathetic condition from a thickening, - which is not as yet of the nature that may be called malignant; but there have been both lacerations and ulcerations in those areas of the stomach, as has been indicated.
-
Then, as we find, in making applications for the beneficial conditions for this body:
-
We would first begin with applications of Hot Castor Oil Packs across the stomach, the liver, and the whole of the right side especially. These should be applied as hot as the body can stand same, using at least three thicknesses of flannel wrung out of the Castor Oil, and placed on the body next to the skin, of course; covering same afterward with cloths to prevent spoiling the bed clothing; and then applying an electric pad to keep same warm. Keep these Packs on for at least an hour and a half to two hours each time they are taken. These we would apply each evening for a period of at least five or six days.
-
Then, after the Packs have been given for five days, begin with taking small doses of the Essence of Ambrosia Weed. PREFERABLY this would be taken green, or NEW; prepared in this manner:
-
Put about half an ounce of the green Ambrosia Weed in a pint of water. Let this come thoroughly to a boil (after the Weed has been bruised and put in the water, you see). Then take off and strain; and to the quantity that is left - which would be about two-thirds of a pint, you see - add one ounce of Pure Grain Alcohol, that it may be preserved. [See 369-12 formula on 9/13/34 saying it is better than Simmons Liver Regulator.]
-
The dose of this would be half a teaspoonful three times each day (after the meals), until there are THOROUGH eliminations through the alimentary canal from the taking of same; that it may act upon the liver.
-
This is better for the body than taking even the Simmons Liver Regulator; which is of the same, but is combined with licorice and other compounds that, for THIS body, would NOT be so well. [See 6/10/71 letter under 1880-1 Reports saying that Simmons Laxative Medicine was discontinued over ten years ago.]
-
After this has acted thoroughly on the system, leave off for a day or two days; then begin again - for another five days - with the Castor Oil Packs.
-
With the beginning of the second series of the Castor Oil Packs, begin then ALSO with the osteopathic adjustments; which should be made particularly in the lumbar, the central dorsal or the 9th dorsal area, and all the way up to the head.
-
In this body, these would be given in the reverse manner from the ordinary activities of beginning at the top and going down. Begin here with this body on the lower portion of the spine and move rather upward, in making the corrections.
-
Do these for at least six treatments. These would be, of course, during the periods the Oil Packs are taken; though the Packs are taken EVERY day, while the manipulations and adjustments would be taken only every OTHER day, see?
-
And after the second series of the Castor Oil Packs, begin again - of course - with taking the Ambrosia Weed as indicated.
-
Then, as to the diet:
-
Beware of those things that carry a great deal of grease. Not too much of starches. No white bread or white potatoes at any time.
-
If meat is taken, it should be preferably only fowl or fish.
-
No fried foods at any time.
-
Especially vegetables and fruits - these both raw and cooked - should form the basis of the diet for the body.
-
Drink plenty of water at all times.
-
Do these and we will bring the better forces for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is there any organic trouble? (A) As indicated, the organs are involved from the disturbances, and in the manner indicated.
-
(Q) Why do the doctors all disagree as to my condition? (A) Ask the doctors!
-
(Q) How long will it take for me to see improvement? (A) By the middle period of the manipulative forces osteopathically, there should be great improvement. There will be RELIEF from the beginning of the use of the Castor Oil Packs.
-
(Q) Am I inflamed in my intestines? (A) As a natural condition from the inflammatory forces, from the lacerations and ulcerations in stomach, portions of the intestines are involved.
-
(Q) Why does cold drinks or food affect me? (A) Just the natural consequences! Especially NO CARBONATED waters should EVER be taken! These are hard upon the system. ICE CREAM or ices would not be so bad, but NOT carbonated waters.
-
(Q) Can I take liquors of any kind? (A) For thine own undoing you may take them! but if you would be healed, NO - none of ANY kind! Wine might be taken a little, but this as a food, - NOT as a drink!
-
(Q) Why do I get dizzy spells? (A) The natural condition from too much of the blood flowing to those portions that are affected.
Do the things as we have indicated, if you would have the better results.
- We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/13/39 [1880]‘s letter to EC:
”…I have received the reading today for which I thank you very much. I am unable to obtain the Essence of Ambrosia Weed compound around here so will you be so kind as to send me some C.O.D…”
R2. 5/17/39 EC’s letter to [1880]:
”…Yours of the 13th - our local druggist hasn’t the Ambrosia Weed either. You should be able to obtain it from Eimer and Ahman in N.Y. or am sure your druggist can obtain it from Penick and Co., Crude Drugs. Hoping you will have no trouble getting this…”
R3. 6/10/71 Letter from Delmas K. Kitchen, M.D. of Warner-Lambert Research Institute, Morris Plains, New Jersey to Bob Clapp:
”…This will acknowledge your letter of April 29th in which you inquired about Simmons Laxative Medicine.
“This item was discontinued from our list over ten years ago, and there are no plans to continue its sale…”
R4. 8/77 Elsie and Bill Sechrist, International Representatives of A.R.E., received this letter from A.R.E. Member Lawrence Follas, 6 Parau Street, Mt. Roskill, Aucland, New Zealand; in re Claire Kassai’s health problem:
“Claire has been making quite a bit of progress physically in the last eighteen months but is still not 100%. I suggested that she pray for guidance through her dreams, which she did, and last night she was told to look at Edgar Cayce’s reading No. [1880]. I have gone completely through the Individual Reference File and cannot trace this. Would you be kind enough to post me a copy of this?”
R5. 10/29/77 Mr. Follas wrote Elsie Sechrist:
“I am following up my last letter to you because of some rather exciting news Claire gave me this week. It appears that the reading she was told about in her dream, No. [1880], contained an exact diagnosis of her ailments. In the reading Cayce pinpointed the problem as having been caused by an intake of mercury in some medicine in times past. When I told Claire about this, she asked her doctor for tests to ascertain if this was the case. She had written to her mother and asked if she could recall ever having had any trouble in this way. Her mother wrote back and told her that as a child she had bitten off the end of a thermometer and swallowed the contents. Claire reported this to her doctor who said it was most unlikely that she would have retained the element in her system for all this time, but nevertheless tests were done and proved positive.
“Over the years Claire has had the symptoms given in the reading, in fact it was liver, kidneys, bladder, dizziness and fainting spells which brought the whole matter up. As I wrote in my previous letter the initial treatment has shown marked results and all we wait on now is the Ambrosia [Ragweed] Medicine… Would you be “so kind as to order a bottle to be sent to me airmail, and let me know the cost for me to reimburse you later. You could also pass this information on to the relative department at the A.R.E. for their records.
“Love to you both.” Lawrence
R6. 11/8/77 GD’s note: Bill Sechrist today gave me the above report and stated he has ordered a bottle of Ambrosis [Ragweed] Laxative sent from PMS Products, Inc., P.O. Box 3074, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. This formula appears in 369-12 and 1880-1 which readings are included in the Circulating File on LIVER, TORPID.
R7. 3/11/78 Claire Kassai’s letter to A.R.E., verifying the above:
“After receiving the reading back from Virginia Beach I asked my doctor, who incidently is a lady doctor, to do a test on me for mercury. She did not react very favourably to my request and declined to do it. On my next visit I was consulted by a believing doctor who agreed after questioning me to have the test carried out. He examined my hands which had swelling of the finger joints asked me if I had ever had jaundice, which I had had as a child and wanted to know about my eyesight and bowel movements.
“The previous doctor had been treating me for an imbalance of my red and white blood corpuscles and for low blood sugar which she said was responsible for spasms of weakness, shaking and fainting spells.
“When I went back to the relieving doctor again he said the mercury test had proven positive. He then asked me if I ate a lot of fish, whether I experienced pain in the liver area and he pressed under my rib cage both back and front. He also asked whether I vomited up green bile from time to time
- which I did. Another test that was carried out was when one of the hairs of my hairs of my head was removed with a small sample of my scalp. The relieving doctor said he did not think I could have injested the mercury from the therometer when I was a child, but that it might have emanated from some of the drugs which I had been taking. These included various sleeping pills and tranquilizers which I used to take in large quantities. I think now that the reason that the lady doctor became so upset at me was because she did not carry out a test herself and that she was a bit frightened.”
Yours sincerely, Claire Kassai
R8. 3/11/78 Lawrence Follas’ comments with the above letter:
”…One further point was that the relieving doctor gave her a prescription for eight or nine pills which he said were liver regulators. She took a few but discontinued them when the Ambrosia weed arrived. She now has none of the symptoms which she formerly had and feels very well.”
