GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions which may be submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1899].
-
Now as we find, the conditions and the inroads of the infectious forces have advanced to where there is the breaking up of the activity between even the liver and the kidneys.
-
Yet, as we find, there may be those additions to the applications for the body wherein we may bring a great deal better condition; and, if there is a consistent and a persistent adherence to suggestions, we may eventually almost eliminate the disturbing conditions.
-
But with the greater opportunity, there must be the use of the self, the life, the activities, for a constructive and a helpful and hopeful experience, - if this would not prove eventually more harmful than helpful.
-
For there must be considered in the life, in the experience of this entity, more of a godliness, more of a righteousness. Not because of fear, but for love, - because of that love which has been and is shown in the Father through the Son to the children of men.
-
In considering the physical conditions, then, and their applications, let’s not forget the warnings which have just been given, - and they must be a part of the application. For it is in faith and in desire to be of a constructive and of a helpful experience that the real help may come.
-
In the blood supply there are the indications of how little there is the proper purification of the blood stream in the lungs, owing to the involvement there. And it is this attempt of the system through the other eliminating channels to rid the system of the poisons that is tending to break down those activities and resistances for the body through the liver and the kidney and the whole hepatic circulation; thus not only weakening the resistances of the body but hindering in the manner of the proper assimilation of that which is taken in the body for the resuscitating influences and forces for helpfulness for the body itself.
-
Hence in all natures of the foods, as well as the activity, precautions should be taken against taking cold, as to the character of the foods that are to be taken, as well as the administration for the helpful forces. All of these must be taken into consideration.
-
Those weaknesses to the system, we will find, will be materially aided within a little while, if there is the application of these things as we suggest here. That is, within ten days to two weeks we may see a great deal of change, PROVIDED the food values are taken in the proportionate way and manner so as to not overtax the system, but that the system may - with the little resistance it has - gradually build that which will enable the destructive forces to be overcome that are existent in the vital organs of the body itself, as well as build better assimilation, better elimination, better resistances, and the allaying of the inroads of the infectious forces through lungs, blood, and the whole of the body forces.
-
Begin then first with these:
-
Prepare at least a two gallon keg, preferably oak, charred inside. Into this put at least a gallon or gallon and a half of Pure Apple Brandy. The key is to be prepared so that after the Brandy is put in same it is to set up on end, and into the upper end of the keg is put a tube, or a metal tube, - not larger than a quarter of an inch, - that is, the opening in same, - so that a rubber tube may be put over this. But this would be so arranged that it could be kept tightly corked. Then a small gimlet hole would be put in the other side, - that is, on the same top end of the keg, but other edge of the head of the keg now sitting up, see? This must also be kept tightly corked, with an oak splinter or peg. Then when this is to be used, remove both corks or pegs and inhale the fumes that are caused by the evaporation from the Brandy. This is not to be drunk, you see, - only the fumes are to be inhaled into the lungs, - through the throat, of course. Not too much at once, but two or three times a day. The openings are to be kept tightly corked except when in use. Keep the keg close to some place where evaporation may take place, or fumes or gas may form by the evaporation in the upper portion of the keg, - that is, in a warm place.
The fumes would be inhaled in the mouth, throat and lungs, two three, four times a day; three, four, five whiffs at a time. This will act as a purifier, it will aid in allaying the attempts for cough or for expectoration, and also aid in reducing the temperatures which arise.
-
At least twice each day we would take half a glass of raw milk in which there would be stirred half a teaspoonful of Acigest. This would be put in and stirred, and allowed to stand for a minute or a little bit more. It is better if the milk is still warm from the animal heat. Not that the milk is not to be kept, if this is not practical, but arrange to have this night and morning when it is fresh from the cow - half a glass, half a teaspoonful of Acigest. This is to be take care of the disturbing conditions, adding sufficient of the acids to the system through the digestive forces of the body in such a way as to cause the foods to be better assimilated, and to act with the conditions that are being disturbed by the inroads of the tubercle itself upon the organs of the assimilating and eliminating system.
-
Also at least once each day we would have the activities of those properties known as Calcios, that may be spread on a little wafer, - about as much as a patter of butter.
-
Then the rest of the foods, - take as much beef juice in small quantities as the body may assimilate, but do not attempt to take more than a teaspoonful at a time, or more than a tablespoonful during a day - for the first two or three weeks. But take at least three minutes in taking even a teaspoonful. Hence it is to be SIPPED, not gulped; so that it, the liquid itself, the beef juice may be easily assimilated through being mixed well with the fluids of the mouth before being swallowed. We do not mean beef extract, nor beef soup, but BEEF JUICE! This is to be made from the lean beef, preferably the neck of the cow - or the rump. This is the type of meat to be used to make the juice. More strength will be found in same.
-
No fried foods at any time!
-
Broiled chicken, or chicken soup, would be very well to be taken.
-
Also lentils, okra, tomatoes in moderation - not large quantities of these, would be well for the body. For this body, we find that the CANNED tomatoes would be better than the fresh, unless allowed to ripen thoroughly on the vine and not ripened after being pulled.
-
Especially okra is beneficial. If this is taken as part of a meal each day it would be most satisfactory, for the activities from this will aid in the digestive forces of the system.
-
Have calves’ liver once or twice a week, - this broiled.
-
Do not eat too much of the white breads. Preferably use the whole wheat, corn bread or the like, - these are much preferable. The corn bread, - make it egg bread, or johnnycake - but baked, NOT fried - or it may be steamed, as with the egg, in what is known as spoon bread.
-
Once a day, preferably in the afternoon, a raw egg yolk with about a teaspoonful of whiskey added to cook same, and then stirred in a glass of raw fresh milk, would be very well. But DO NOT take milk from a cow that has not been tested for tuberculosis! for this would only add those conditions that would be hard to combat.
-
Do these, and keep these up.
-
Keep in the open, NIGHT AND DAY if practical, but never with a great deal of draft or with the wind blowing on the body.
-
Keep warm, - that is, do not get chilled, or let any part of the body get cold.
-
Do not get the body wet or damp from exposure or the like.
-
Do all of these, and then in six to eight weeks we would give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 6/9/39 [1899]‘s letter to EC:
…, Ky.
Mr. Edgar Cayce
Dear Sir:
Received my reading last Saturday, and was well pleased with it. I have ordered the medicine and charred keg.
About other foods other than you told me to eat for Breakfast, Eggs and cereals and vegetables at other meals, I want to be sure so I can do as near like you want me to as possible. My foods haven’t been digesting good for some time, maybe for a month they would and then I would have a spell with my stomach. This last spell has bothered me for nearly a month.
Seems like every spell I have it weakens me down. I feel pretty good as long as my stomach and kidneys don’t bother me.
I will do every thing you suggest and as near as I can and like you want me to.
Sincerely yours
R2. 6/13/39 EC’s letter to [1899]:
Dear Mr. [1899]
Have yours of the 9th - glad to hear from you, and do hope you will soon be seeing some results. Can well imagine what a time you have with your food. The things suggested should form the basis of your meals I think - but do you find they do not agree to be sure take things that do, but keep them as the foundation if possible. Very soon we will check up on the condition - so you after a week or ten days make out a list of questions of things that bother you most, and we will see what the reading has to say about them - and if there are other suggestions. You are at home all the time are you? As would not wish to undertake it and you not be at the address we have. So let us know about that when you write.
Know we are anxious to try and help and hope you will write ever so often just how you are.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R3. 6/24/39 [1899]‘s letter to EC:
Have yours of June 13. I haven’t got all of the medicines yet. I got the Calcios but the Acigest was broken when it came so I reordered it the 17th and it hasn’t come in yet. I am at home most of the time but might not be if you would let me know I would be.
The things that bother me most is as follows, I am bothered with catarrh of the head and it gets sore and hurts. Of course it could be my teeth. Are eyes one that causes it as my teeth seems to be sound on the outside.
In the hollow place in my stomach is sore once in a while. I am awful nervous at times. My stomach hasn’t cramped me but very little the last week or so.
When I urinate there is a white passage afterwards like milk white, not all the time but once in a while. My tongue stays coated most of the time a thick white coat. Maybe when you give me a recheck, it will show if there is other trouble besides the ones I have mentioned, if there is any. That I don’t know about.
I guess this about covers everything.
Sincerely yours
P.S. When I have those spells with my stomach it makes me weak & nervous.
R4. 7/5/39 [1899]‘s letter to EC:
…, Ky.
Mr. Edgar Cayce
Dear Sir:
Have yours of June 28 - 39
I am feeling some better now. I still have a few pains in my stomach, but haven’t had a real bad spell lately.
I don’t know of any thing else other than I mentioned in letter of 24 of June, except just under my ribs on left side there seems to be something loose at times. I hope if there is anything else bothering except what I have mentioned, it will show up in the recheck.
I am doing just as near like you have told me to.
In the pit or hollow of my stomach is sore or just below my breast bone I suppose that would be where you would call it.
I have moved since reading before, so I will be at home on place which is known as The … Place, …, Ky. R.F.D. 2.
I guess this is all hoping to show improvement in recheck.
Yours truly
