This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of June, 1939, in accordance with request made by the parents - Mr. and Mrs. […], through Associate Membership in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [1849], Mrs. [1857], and Mrs. [1770].

U.S. Naval Base Time of Reading Hospital, 10:40 to 10:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, [1905].

3. Now as we find, the conditions in the present appear VERY serious, - as there is the lack of the reaction between the nerve impulse to and from the activities. Hence the languidness, and coma - at times.

4. Yet this need not NECESSARILY be fatal to the better body-forces, if there would be the proper applications made (and we would call Taylor - the New York neurologist).

5. First, we would have the injections of Liver Extract to such negative reaction.

6. Then we would make use of the Wet Cell Appliance carrying Gold to the body-activity (in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold to each ounce of distilled water, carried into the body vibratorially, you see), which will aid in assisting the nerve forces through their activities to take from the glandular reactions the energies necessary for the resuscitating of the nerve IMPULSE itself.

7. The attachments would be made, the small copper plate to the 9th dorsal and the large nickel plate (through which the Gold Solution passes) to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus, for twenty minutes each day.

8. We would have a gentle massage following such.

9. And the injections we would have - under the direction of the neurologist.

10. Keep the body quiet, and on the liquid diet, - or the injections may be necessary - for nourishment.

11. Doing these, under the direction of Taylor, we should find the better improvement.

12. Do that.

13. (Q) What has caused this condition? (A) A breaking down of the nervous system. This is a multiple [sclerosis?]* of the condition. And these elements added in the manner indicated will prevent the brain adherence, or the liquefying of same.

14. (Q) Anything else that can be done to make him comfortable? (A) Do THIS! It won’t make him very comfortable in the beginning, but these will begin the resuscitation as well as the hindering of the deterioration which is going on in the present.

Do that.

15. (Q) How long has this condition been developing? (A) Since he was two days old!

16. (Q) Are there any doctors in the Naval Hospital where he now is who are open-minded to follow your reading? (A) Do these AS WE HAVE INDICATED, if you would receive the results!

17. We are through for the present.

• [GD’s note: This word “sclerosis” was my idea and did not come in the reading. Perhaps multiple meant only a condition multiple in scope.]

R1. 6/7/39 EC’s letter: ”…Gave the reading this morning for [1905]. I certainly hope we may be of service. The friend that spoke also to [the father] has been a friend of ours for many years. I hope you come to know her very well - Miss [1849] - would like for you to know her very well - am sure you can be of a real help to her - very lovely girl…

“Do hope the reading is in time to be of real help. I feel the doctor they were referred to can help out and he knows a bit of the work and doesn’t think it altogether crazy…”

R2. 8/12/39 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC: ”…Young Mr. [1905] passed away on July 19th, as your reading stated ‘this young man need not die’ - but unbelief and bigotry stood in the way of his return to health and strength. His mother’s brother is a physician and he could not understand the reading and influenced the boy’s parents. Who knows - perhaps through their grief and suffering, belief may come to them…”

R3. 8/16/39 EC’s reply: ”…Had heard of Mr. [1905]‘s passing, as the young lady I introduced you to [1849] phoned me about him. I just hope some help, some light will come to the family of [1905], for such grief without belief in the power of resurrection must be hard indeed…”

R4. 9/12/57 Memo by GD: This got indexed under Leukemia because after the boy’s death, it was rumored that he had Leukemia. Perhaps not at all. What??

R5. 9/12/57 Memo by GD: At this late date I’m wondering if Dr. Fenton Taylor was not meant instead of [Dr. Charles Goodman Taylor], as I am not sure [he] was a neurologist.

R6. 7/60 In Dr. W. N. Pahnke’s breakdown of 7 cases of leukemia (16 readings) he did not include Case [1905] because he could not show a reasonable certainty that it was leukemia. He could not obtain confirmation with certified photostats of death certificates and hospital records.

B1. Mrs. [1770] telephoned request for parents: “Operated yesterday - don’t know what the trouble is, but opened his chest to take out a gland to see if it was glandular trouble. We want the report from the reading before the doctors turn in their report. Of course, the family are just jumping at straws, because the Naval doctors say that whatever it is, it is fatal.”

B2. 6/6/39 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

“I am writing in behalf of my friends [[1905]‘s parents.] Their 23 year old son, a strapping boy of six foot four has been coughing for over a month. He graduated from Annapolis just a week ago though he was unable to be at the graduation exercises. His parents are beside themselves and feel quite helpless as their son is in the care of the Naval doctors, etc., etc. No one seems to know what is causing the trouble and Sunday morning I told [the mother] about you and the help you could give.

“[The father] wanted to drive down to Virginia Beach immediately. He did telephone and was so crushed when he heard that you were not at home. After looking into the faces of that mother and father, I realize what your great gift means to others who have watched their loved ones suffering from an unknown cause. The boy has become weaker and weaker and can retain no food.

“X-rays have been taken, each one more perplexing to the doctors when attempting to read them.

“Sincerely hope that you will be able to give this fine boy a reading for I understand that the doctors wish to operate next. ‘When in doubt operate!’ seems to be their motto. It’s quite a coincidence that another friend of yours told [the father] about your splendid work, and I was telling [the mother]. I know that you can assist them and will do so, as soon as possible…”
