This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of November, 1930, in accordance with request made the by self - Miss [1913], through Mrs. [2750].

1. EC: We have the entity, [1913], as known in the present, and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited manifestedly in the present entity.

2. In entering the present experience astrologically, from sojourns, we find the entity coming under the influence of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, with afflictions in Mars and Saturn.

3. In that as has been builded as personality in the present, these - we find - would be changed somewhat from that manifestedly in relationships with astrological influences; for while one may be under the astrological influence of its environs through sojourn, these may be altered in the activities of the entity through the application of will. So, in life’s experience through an earth’s sojourn, it is altered by the use of that as is sometimes called opportunity; for each experience, each day, each thought, OFFERS an entity an opportunity; for development or for retardment - for it ever remains the same, “This day - NOW - there is set before thee good and evil. Choose thou.”

4. In this entity’s experience we find a material attitude, with a SPIRITUAL background.

5. One, then, innately of high mental abilities, with that capacity of making many friends - and as easily losing them.

6. One, in Jupiter, that makes for a commercial mindedness, yet may ever be tempted - or tempered with the spiritual forces in same.

7. One, in the Venus influence, that finds love as not only a duty but as a privilege, and many of the FRIENDS of the entity - that may be called as PASSING friends - are LOVED, even as ones close in body, in material relations, in the filial relations.

8. In these influences the entity sheds, as it were, or reflects an influence upon ALL whom the entity contacts; yet is something of an enigma to all.

9. In the Mercurian influence, tempered as it is with those of Jupiter AND Venus, makes for that MENTAL ability that has made the entity not just a STRUGGLING student on ANY question, but when the entity has chosen to make same a part of the entity’s experience same has been easily made MORE than worth while.

10. In the influences as are afflictions - were it termed only material, the entity might be a good gambler, or chances taken on lotteries, chances taken on drawings, may easily be chosen by the entity as winners - yet these, as ever, may wield for either good OR bad in the entity’s experience; for these bespeak of those influences in Saturn that bring for that which must be changed for the entity’s rebuilding, re-inhibiting of thought and purpose in the entity’s experiences.

11. In the appearances and the effects these have upon the PRESENT experience:

12. In the one before this we find during that period known as a REBELLIOUS period in England, during the days of that entity known as Cromwell. The entity among those who rose to position during that experience, in the social, in the material, in the financial AFFLUENCE of the period; as through the PRESENT experience - the entity, through those incidents that have seemingly been of the nature as to bring distraughtness to others, is offered will be offered opportunities in an unusual way and manner. During that period the entity rose to that position in the court as was ENVIED by many; yet persecutions arose on account of the religious influences in the entity’s experience. In the name Herschiel. In this experience the entity gained, lost, and gained; being in years just mature during the period, the entity rose in power and in the SERVICE the entity gained. In the aggrandizing of interests, and the attempt to be on two sides at once, brought consternation - and the persecutions later in MATERIAL ways. In the MENTAL and SPIRITUAL, in the latter portions, the entity gained. In the present experience also may be seen that influence that religious thought, cult or ism, has upon the entity; for many and VARYING are the entity’s feelings, yet mostly governed by the thought of others. Too easily led by others, and when there is the rise of Saturn’s influence - in thirty-two and one - beware of accidents as would have to do with the head, from motive forces.

13. In the one before this we find in that period known as the Trojan, and in this experience the entity was among those in the islands that suffered under the overrunning of the country. While the entity only experienced a short life, or run, in this period - yet abundant, and fraught much with the change in material AND thought of the day. In the name Iiliat. In the experience the entity gained, yet much of grudge, much of that thought as of those in power taking advantage - rather than the considering of WHY those were IN power. In the present there is held a peculiar influence as related to those of the opposite sex, and the mistrusts and the conditions of question arise much from THIS experience.

In the one before this we find in that land now known as the Egyptian, and during that period of reconstruction and the building up of those tenets as were given as lessons, as laws, as pertain to the varied relationships in the earth as related to the material, philosophical, theological, and such. The entity acted in what would be termed in the present day as the secretary to the leader or head of the school. In this experience the entity gained much, being trained from the youth up to the expanding of the thought, becoming an emissary in the latter days to the lands that were LATER destroyed. In this experience the entity was in the name Is-Osli. In the present this experience may be MADE to mean most in the entity’s development, for this is ans the hidden source of strength, mentally and MINDEDLY in the entity; that is, sources of the mind INNATE, or unconscious sources, may be made to become mental applications in an understanding and a knowledge of those tenets taught under the guidance of many, or those in the same experience. In the present, also, those abilities in the compilation of minutia, as data, as thought, as lessons, are in the entity’s experience - as well as symbols, and those of the musical variety.

15. In the one before this we find in that land known as the American (in the present), and in that portion of same where there was the making of the usages, or vessels for the usage of man. The entity was among those that RULED the land, yet an adept at the pottery making - and especially in the present will those of decorated china, or such, be of interest to the entity, when of a peculiar or odd style or shape. In this experience, the name Ooumo.

16. In the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain:

17. In the variations as are seen, the entity in SERVICE found much, GAINED much. In self’s interests, or in grudges or contentions, LOST much. Then, find first in self that of a purpose and of an ideal, and working or applying self in that direction may the MOST be made in THIS experience - for many another MUST come to the entity. Ready for questions.

18. (Q) Am I in the right line of work? (A) That should BEST be DETERMINED in self, as to whether that field of endeavor offers the opportunity for self-expression in service to its highest extent or not. Dissatisfaction breeds discontent, discontent breeds that of disorder, inharmony, and NECESSARILY contempt for self.

19. (Q) Would I be a success as a model in New York? (A) Would, under SOME environs - such as those who make a SPECIALITY of casts, as for bronze - or for those of THAT character.

20. (Q) Should I make a change, or should I stay here? (A) That had better be determined in self. Follow that as has been given as respecting same.

21. (Q) When will I get married? (A) When she wants to!

22. (Q) Will my book be a success? (A) Second one will; not the first.

23. (Q) Will my future be happier than my past? (A) Can be made so!

24. (Q) Is there anything I can do to help family affairs? (A) That’s out of the ken here! but in application of self in service, OTHERS should come first.

25. (Q) Where will I meet the man I am to marry? (A) Depends upon whether the changes are made or not!

26. (Q) Just what does the future hold in store for me? (A) That which may be builded by self’s efforts, through the application of self in the direction that builds for creative forces - rather than that of USING that which is supplied through other sources. We are through.

R1. 12/11/30 Letter from [1913] to EC: ”…I have given my reading considerable thought and study and regret to advise that I am more than disappointed in it. You haven’t helped me in the least.

“To begin with, you didn’t give me the type of reading I wanted. As I told you in my letters, I am not interested in reincarnation, nor in my past, and the reading dealt mainly with that. You may think I am queer, or ignorant, or whatever you wish to call it, but I cannot bring myself to believe in all that, for I don’t think it is humanly possible for anyone to tell how many lives a person’s soul has lived, nor to be so explicit as to tell their names and what a person did in those past lives.

“Of course, you have your beliefs and I have mine. I’m not arguing that. What I wanted to say is this, and I am going to be very frank in saying it. I told you very plainly in my letters just what kind of reading I wanted and my questions were a further portrayal of that, and if you couldn’t give me what I wanted, I think you should have advised me to that effect. Now, don’t you think I am right in thinking that?

“The only thing you told me about my future was that ‘in service I would find much, in self’s interests, lose much.’ Of course we all know that we should think of others first. And in answering my questions, you advised me to be ‘determined by self.’ If I could have decided those questions for myself, I would never have asked your help.

“I hope you can understand my attitude and see why I am disappointed. If I had wanted a reading on ‘reincarnation’, I would have been more than satisfied, but I wanted to be advised as to my future. I thought you would like to know how I received the reading…”

R2. 12/17/30 Letter from EC to [1913]: ”…I have yours of the 11th and am indeed sorry to know that you were disappointed with your reading. I felt from the first that it would be very much better for you to be present, so that you could have asked questions which might clarify it for you. I understand just how you must feel about the information if you have not studied along these lines at all, and how very skeptical one can be. I don’t blame anyone at all - but why would it be so much harder to tell the past than to prognosticate the future? You can only build on whatever foundation you have laid. Of course, if you don’t WANT to believe in reincarnation, I wouldn’t want you to subscribe to it for anything on earth! But our experiences from day to day tend to strengthen our belief in this rather than lessen it, though I assure you I was not brought up to believe such as a young man.

“Don’t you think it would be well, [1913], during the Christmas holidays, that you make a visit to Virginia Beach and let us try to answer your questions for you? We would be very glad to do that, if you feel that it would be possible for us to be of any service in the matter. That is our whole purpose.

“I sincerely believe that if you would take the time and STUDY the information given it would be worth a great deal to you; but if you don’t want to believe it - and wouldn’t want to believe it even if you knew it was true - why forget it! It is our desire to give you the information you are seeking, but if you understood anything at all about the work you would know that we have no way of telling beforehand whether a reading will answer certain questions or not. A great deal depends on the individual, and we can only try. So, if you would care to come and listen to another reading for yourself, we will approach it from whatever angle you suggest…”

B1. 10/17/30 Letter from [1913] to GD: ”…The life reading is probably the one to suit my case. I am not so interested in the past, the future is my problem. My problem might appear unimportant and inconsequential to you and Dr. Cayce, but it means so much to me. I have come to a seemingly blind alley and I know not where to turn. It has made me most unhappy.

“Can you understand what I mean? Something seems to tell me that I shouldn’t be sitting here wasting the best years of my life when I could be out doing something. I feel that I should make a change, but it’s home to me here and not so easy to think of leaving. I’m afraid of doing the wrong thing. There’s so much to consider. I have seen so many people ruin their whole lives by taking the wrong step when they felt the urge to be up and going.

“It isn’t plausible that a girl my age, who has the little things in life that would make most people happy, should be worried and unhappy. I ought to be enjoying the best years of life now and instead I am uncertain. The future frightens me. I am a nondescript person in a nondescript town, doing the things that are expected of me, but I’m not satisfied.

“I want to know if I am in the right line of work? Should I get married and have a family like other girls, and if so, when? Should I follow the line of least resistence and not try to better myself?

“Though this letter is rambling and probably incoherent, I have tried to give you an idea of what I want to know. I am enclosing a list of questions that I would like answered…”
