This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of August, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self, through Mr. [257], on Sponsored Associate Membership in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born October 29, 1910, New York City. Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. HLC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over the years from present - ” - ‘18, yes - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1978].

4. Not only is this entity one of those from the Atlantean sojourn but a Uranian combined with same; also one that in eighteen (‘18) had that experience which set the innate self against others.

5. Hence in giving the interpretations of the records for this body, and in giving that as would be the more helpful in the entity fulfilling or becoming that which is the purpose for the entrance of each soul into a material experience, this must be taken into consideration.

6. And there should be applied, in a psychological manner, that which would aid the inner self in putting aside this determination to “get even” with others; as well as that feeling of the needs of the expression to show the power of the personality.

7. This as we find would be best accomplished by subjugating the physical consciousness and using the inner or soul consciousness to describe conditions that are to be eliminated from the consciousness; by hypnosis.

8. In giving the interpretation, then:

As has been indicated, then, there came the experience which has altered the personal experiences of the entity in this particular period, - and the rest would only become as more helpful when there is the removing of this suppression, and obsession; and then the seeking for the great spiritual enlightenment as may become a part of the entity’s experience.

10. One that is a Uranian, that is influenced for the extremes, is necessarily supersensitive - in the fingers as well as in every form of mental development.

11. Thus the entity may become a power, an overlord in any field of endeavor, - if it is guided in the better spiritual understanding.

12. The Uranian experience with the Atlantean indicates something that would have to do with mechanical appliances, especially of an electrical nature, would become the fields of endeavor through which the entity might accomplish in this material plane those activities that would become the physical, the mental, the spiritual saving grace for the entity.

13. Thus we would indicate, first, - have those experiences through which there may be removed that determined expression set, that has made the body soul-sick, that has set it as against others.

14. And then study the greater spiritual values. Know the ideals of that which has been the faith of the fathers. From those experiences the entity may be aroused to that activity in which there may be a reclaiming of purpose, and the determination within self even as the prodigal, “I will arise and go to the Father, God.”

15. For through that grace and mercy and peace and harmony will come, from such determinations, - by the removal of those obsessions, those oppressions, and those activities in which those inner influences may be aroused, that may be the determining forces by subjugating the physical consciousness.

16. Then may there come the greater awakening.

17. And in those fields of endeavor as indicated, activities may come in which there may be the outlet for the greater abilities of the entity - as a part of this experience.

19. (Q) What should be the nature of the hypnosis? (A) True hypnosis, there is only one. Subjugating of the physical consciousness for the interpreting of the obsession.

20. (Q) What particular type of work should the entity take up? (A) As indicated, anything of mechanical nature that has to do especially with electrical forces.

21. (Q) Who would you recommend to handle the hypnosis? (A) Garrett or Kuhn, or both.

Dear Mr. [1978]:

Circumstances over which we had no control caused a delay in your getting your reading on time - but hope you have found it of interest. Trust you have gone over it with Mr. [257], and have arranged to have the suggestions carried out. Know I feel a real interest in your case and hope every thing works out as it should. Know if you make up your mind to do the right thing and pray about it then act just like you pray, am sure it will all work out right.

Will appreciate your letting me hear from you.

R2. 5/8/46 Gina Cerminara’s letter:

Dear Mr. [257] and Mrs. [903]:

Today, going through the life reading files, I chanced upon two very interesting cases which you sponsored back in 1939. They are the cases of two men who, I gather from the correspondence, had criminal records. Their names are [1978] and [1977].

In the case of [1978], no previous incarnations were given; he was told they wouldn’t be particularly helpful until he changed his inner attitude. In the case of [1977], however, 3 lives were given: one as a paid soldier in the Civil War, who took to plundering; one in Jerusalem, and one in Atlantis as a Son of Belial. Both cases are very interesting, and especially that of [1977] since it shows a criminal tendency to have begun as far back as Atlantis. If in this life the man has been a thief, it would be a striking instance of how the desire to plunder is carried over from one life to the next.

And so I am writing you for further information on the two men, as I am sure that the cases will be useful in one way or another. I would like to know, about each of the two men:

1. What was his criminal offense?
2. Had he served a prison term?
3. Was the reading helpful to him in any way? If so, how?
4. What has his career been since the time of the Reading?

Any other details about the man’s appearance, personality, family, environment, or life in general that would add human interest to the story will be very helpful in writing up the case.

I know how busy you must be, Mr. [257], and hate to impose on your time; but maybe you could give this information to [903] and she might write it down and send it to me. I will certainly appreciate it!

Tom tells me you had quite a successful open meeting last week; I’m delighted to hear it.

P.S. In [1978]‘s reading, an experience is referred to as occurring in 1918 which “set the innate self against others”; apparently this experience gave him the determination to “get even with others”. Do you happen to know what that experience was? He must have been 8 years old at the time. Of course, he may never have explained this to you, but on the other hand - since I gather you went over the reading with him - he may have told you explicitly what it was.

Dear Judge:-

Here are two men [[1978] and [1977]] who have kicked all over the earth - they are down and out. The new district attorney Mr. Amen & his assistant, who is a friend of Geo. Baldwin & Mrs. Baldwin want to rebuild themselves into good citizens. They want to meet you & request these readings as a basis for rebuilding these men.

It is very funny the way things work [?] around. Mr. Hill is a wonderful fellow & you will like him. This would be very interesting - it is a new field for us & I think very worth while. Would you be good enough to keep them for some open period. I’ll add the questions. Maybe we can save a life or two & rebuild two characters.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I want to thank you for taking the interest in my case you are taking in behalf of Mr. Hill and Mr. [257]. I can truthfully promise that anything you do for me, will be greatly appreciated.

It will be a great occasion for me the day I am introduced to you in person. And would greatly appreciate if you would answer the following questions I have written to you. I will close for now, hoping of seeing you in the near future.

B6. 8/5/39 [257]‘s letter to EC: “It is really very wonderful that you are willing to help people such as Mr. Hill has suggested from District Attorney’s Amen’s office.

I do not know what can be done for these men, but since they want to go straight the District Attorney’s office wants to help them and as long as you feel you want to help them I am willing to do my part.

I sent for these men yesterday and had them in my office nearly all afternoon and sent their questions down to you yesterday.
