This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of February, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [2002], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [2002], present in this room, in regard to his life and work. Having volunteered in the navy and been advised by navy officials and all his friends to accept a commission outside of medicine if offered; having volunteered in the army and been turned down temporarily because of varicose veins, the entity now seeks the best course to pursue. Should he accept the navy deferrment of 30 days in order to heal, and then volunteer in the army? By waiting so long would it still be possible to volunteer in the army before being drafted. If being accepted in the army, what are the possibilities of being commissioned in the medical corp, and if so would this be best, or should he allow himself to be drafted? In other words, should the temptations of financial advantages and prestige and possibilities of being located in Norfolk in the navy be disregarded, or should he agree to accept a commission outside of medicine if offered, with the hope of being stationed in Norfolk with the possibility of continuing his osteopathic practice at night? You will please advise the entity, and answer the questions he may ask:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [2002], and those conditions and circumstances that have been indicated through these channels.

3. As we find, under the existent conditions, it would be well that the entity consider the advisability of the deferrment as related to the navy.

4. Through those activities as will be required upon the 15th and 16th for registration, if there is the rejection, as well as the existent conditions that are part of the experience noted at the time there is the registration with the regular channels of activity, we find that all of the these will be taken into consideration - as well as the deferrments, if these notations of such will be made - at the time there is the registration with the regular channels of activity.

5. Then, await those activities as respecting navy, or those conditions as will arise through the changes or opportunities of commission outside the medical corp, or in the activity in the navy personnel.

6. These as we find are the better conditions to consider, under the existent circumstance.

7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) Would you suggest any further care for the infection of the foot, or varicose veins, which would speed healing? (A) The applications as in the present, if there is the keeping off the feet as much as practical, are in keeping with the best interests and best conditions of the body in the present.

Of course, if there is the using of same, and the disregarding of the diet as respecting the circulation, especially as related to the lower portion of the body - and cold arises - this will make a bad condition.

9. (Q) Should the army or navy be considered, if I have the chance to join either? (A) Consider the deferrment in the navy, as we find.

10. (Q) With what department of the navy should I seek to be associated? (A) This should be indicated by the associations and connections which have already been considered, and that are considering the activities of the body.

11. (Q) Would I be happy and successful in the navy? (A) As this is the greater desire, these should be the channels for the better outlets UNDER the EXISTENT conditions.

But the principles involved MUST be considered from the standpoint of the creative forces and not too much of the personal gain.

12. (Q) In professional training, would it be better to join the army, for future life - after the war? (A) As we find, as has just been indicated, owing to circumstances or environmental influences, there will not be as much consideration given in the army personnel as may be in the navy; though - for FUTURE activities - the allowing of self to be drafted, placed, and then seeking those activities IN ANY of the forces as for the care of army conditions, might add to FUTURE relationships. These will have to be choices of the body.

13. (Q) Any further advice? (A) Do not overlook the possibilities of conditions and connections in the navy. Do not overlook the possibilities for future associations if there is NOT a long deferrment after the registration.

R1. 3/9/42 Phone report by Dr. [2002]: “Just wanted to tell you that I received today my commission in the Navy, Lieut. j.g., and I’m very happy about it. Don’t know just what my duties will be yet, but will let you know where I am sent, etc.”

R2. 3/15/43 According to Dr. Richardson, Dr. [2002] is still in Norfolk, has an Intelligence job - commission - in the Naval Station, or Amphibian Base at Little Creek; also he got married last December to a … girl, daughter of […], florist of Norfolk; is very well satisfied with his life, probably be stationed there for the duration.

R3. 12/14/59 Letter to GD from A.R.E. member in Maryland: “Thank you for sending me the material on adhesions [Case [533]]. I chose to go to Dr. [2002] and have been glad for the choice, as he is very active and seems to have quite a huge practise! The lobby was packed.”

R4. 6/16/61 GD’s note: The maiden name of Dr. [2002]‘s wife was similar to his name in the early America incarnation.
