This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of November, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2035], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by, and requested through, her sister, Mrs. [1663].

Born January 7, 1880, in Blackbarok, Colorado. Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:25 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Oklahoma.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane; giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘37 - seeking, because of being aroused - ‘34 - ‘31 - changes - ‘24 - happy year - ‘23 - ‘12 - yes, a change - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records of that entity now known as or called [2035].

4. These we find are very unusual in some respects. These interpretations, as taken from the records, are chosen with the desire to make the experience a helpful, hopeful one for the entity at this time; that there may be a better interpreting of self, self’s purpose, self’s desires, and the relationships the entity bears with the emotions, as well as the urges that are latent and manifested in the experience of the entity.

5. As is indicated from the astrological aspects, - these have come to mean very little in the experience of the entity, yet are latent influences in this material sojourn.

6. In Venus with Jupiter we find the ability of the entity for making friendships, for attracting to self those in any or every walk of life, - by its own graciousness.

7. This, to be sure, may be made a stumblingblock or as stepping-stones. But know WHY such is a part of the conscious activity, and let its purpose be wholly that the glory of the fruits of the spirit prompt same.

8. Indicated also from these very influences, as combined with Neptune and Saturn, there are the abilities in dramatizing, - or in making any situation dramatic; and the entity is attracted to such.

9. Then, those that are able to dramatize any force or power as may be of special interest, - as of a song, as of a form or manner of obtaining vows or such influences, - are of special interest to the entity; BRINGING the ability of the entity to become a good story teller.

10. Hence the entity’s activities should be directed in those ways and manners of giving such suggestions in stories as to enable children, or those of the teen age or the developing individuals who seek to be able to give expression, to find poise, to find their way and manner of expressing themselves, - when even there are the inclinations to be self-conscious.

11. This again may be used, of course, to such measures as to be detrimental; but if the entity analyzes self and self’s motives, these abilities may and should be used to bring the outlets for expressions of the entity.

12. Then, know in what ye believe, and who is the author of same. For, as will be seen, the experiences of the entity in the material plane have attracted, do attract that in self-expression which needs to be sure.

13. Then, the author of thy ideals, - be they mental or material, - must necessarily be prompted by spiritual purposes.

14. For, each soul enters material experiences for becoming more and more at an at-onement with Creative Forces, AS they may be expressed in relationships to thy fellow man.

15. For as ye do it unto the least of thy brethren, ye do it unto thy Maker.

16. As to the appearances in the earth, we find these - as indicated - have been quite varied.

17. Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present sojourn, in the early periods of the settlings in that land, owing to the discovery of precious metals in the western land.

18. Such environs and surroundings have continued to be of special interest or attraction to the entity.

19. There we find the entity acted in those capacities that might to some in the present be called questionable. For the entity was a keeper of what would be called a hotel, or inn; and many of the characters of that period came to the entity at one time or another, under this or that circumstance, for counsel, for advice.

20. The name then was Maggie McGuirah. In the experience the entity MATERIALLY had a great deal of dissension and turmoil, yet spiritually and mentally the entity gained throughout the sojourn.

21. Hence in the present many of those turmoils have arisen, not only in its marital relationships but in its friendships and its church affiliations, and associations, that have brought questionings. And yet, as ye know in WHOM ye have believed, know that He is able to keep that thou may commit unto Him against every experience that may be thine.

22. For, His promises are true; that ye abiding in Him, as He abides in the Father, ye may ask and receive, - if ye BELIEVE, and LIVE it!

23. Know that His commandments are not grievous; for as He gave, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for my yoke is easy, my burden is light, to those who love their fellow man.”

24. Then, know that He IS thy friend, thy Lord, thy Master; that there is none other name given under heaven whereby a soul may indeed find its way back to its Maker. For He is the way, the truth AND the light!

25. Before that we find the entity was in the land of the present sojourn during the early settlings, in those periods when there were ones chosen for the seeking of adventure, the seeking of freedom of speech, freedom for religious worship.

26. The entity was among those who came into the land to be chosen as companions for the settlers in the land, - but then in that portion nigh unto what is now the capitol of the land, - or the extreme northern portions of Virginia.

27. There we find the entity was among those hardy peoples of that experience, bringing to those of that period a greater concept of the needs for distinctive activity, - not only in the choice of the material sojourns or actions but as to the friends, as well as companions.

28. Hence the interest the entity has in the missionary efforts, and those of new undertakings; especially for the young, and those who have been less privileged than some others.

29. The name then was Marion Spanargtey. In the experience the entity gained throughout; and the love of adventure, the outdoors, the abilities to be active in the choice of those who would engage in athletics, all become a portion of the entity’s urges from that sojourn - whether they become as material manifestations or not, for there are the latent urges through the sensual forces of the entity’s experience.

30. Before that we find the entity was in the land of promise, during those periods when the Master walked in the earth.

31. There we find the entity was acquainted with much and many of the happenings of that experience; yet not until there came the meeting of many of the holy women were those experiences as the greater awakening influences in the experience of the entity - as Sophia - in that sojourn.

32. For, the entity was not of the Jewish peoples, but rather of the combination of the Grecian and Saracen peoples, or those about the northernmost portion of that particular land.

33. There again we find the entity losing, gaining; gaining because of its abilities to relate to the many during that experience the stories and experiences of those who had been in close contact with the Teacher of teachers, the Lord of lords, the Brother of man!

34. For the entity, as is understood from the records that are indicated, was one that could tell such in a manner as to induce the individual to live with those experiences.

35. Practise these in thy daily life in the present, and in the telling of them ye will not only find Him alive in thine own heart and consciousness, but that His words become LIVING water, quenching the thirst of those who are disturbed or troubled as to the meanings of His parables, His lessons that He taught.

36. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the Atlanteans coming into the land.

37. The entity, though young in years, came into the Egyptian land. Thus it may be said that the experience or sojourn there represented that activity which may influence the entity in the present.

38. For, coming under the influence of those tenets as became a part of the experience, through the teachings of the Priest there, the entity joined with those who were active in the schools of that period; in becoming an interpreter of languages of other lands, and UNIFYING the interpreting forces that were the tenets of the Priest to those of other lands.

39. The name then was Mar-Za.

40. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:

41. Study to show thyself approved unto God (not to man); a workman not ashamed; rightly divining the words of truth, keeping self unspotted from condemnation of self or others.

42. In the FIELDS of service as indicated the greater expression, the greater harmony may be found.

43. Ready for questions.

44. (Q) What is the particular lesson I came here to learn this time, and have I failed? (A) Not failed; but have ye gained the whole lesson? He stands at the door of thy heart, thy consciousness! OPEN to Him!

45. (Q) Have my husband’s failures in business been in any way my fault, and how can I help him more? (A) In little or no way thy fault, yet - as ye have met in many of thy experiences or sojourns - ye have much to work out together. Hold fast to thy faith, SPIRITUALLY, mentally; and ye will help the more.

46. (Q) Is there any special talent I might develop now, or some special work which would satisfy unrest? (A) As has been indicated, be active in the instruction to the young, or to those of the teen age, - or to those that would seek dramatic outlet, or expression. For, the entity can develop here; and it gives an outlet for the abilities of the entity.

47. (Q) When one partner in a marriage loses desire for sexual relation and to the other it is still necessary, how may this problem be met? (A) Only in a united effort on the part of each to fill that which IS the need of each.

48. (Q) Is the I AM group in Tulsa, Okla, the group with which I should work? (A) Does this answer to that within which assures thee of those tenets that were the promptings in thy developing years?

No, - turn to Him who ALONE is the way, the truth, the light!

49. (Q) Am I on the Path? (A) This alone is with thee and thy Lord! Who IS thy Lord?

50. (Q) Any connection before with father and mother? (A) These as we find have been a part of the experience, both in the last sojourn and in the Egyptian.

51. (Q) With my children? (A) These we don’t find, - yet there are those needs. In the experience before this, especially.

52. (Q) Have I been with my sister, [1663], before and where? (A) As may be indicated by the paralleling of their experiences in material sojourns.

In close associations especially in the Egyptian AND in the periods in the Holy Land. In the one, one was dependent upon the other; in the other, the reverse.

53. (Q) My niece, [1992], and where? (A) This again may be paralleled.

R1. 11/9/39 Letter from [2035] to EC: ”…Knowing how much you have helped my sister [1663], and being aware of her infinite faith in your work, I venture to address you, hoping for some clarification of the reading which she so graciously gave me through you.

“The personality I have come to know as myself after fifty nine years of living seems so alien in every way to the one indicated. Have definitely never been religious in my approach to truth seeking, leaning more to scientific demonstration.

“Question five [2035-1, Par. 48-A] is especially mystifying… ‘Does this answer to that within, which assures thee of those tenets that were the promptings in thy developing years’? Now I was born and baptized in the Roman Catholic Church which I left at the age of fifteen - in thought much before that - since then at various times have been interested in the following: New Thought, Divine Science, Study of Great Work in a Group, Theosophical Society. The I AM group is one in which my daughter has recently become interested - hence my desire to be with her

• it is supposed to be directed by the Masters Jesus and St. Germain…”

R2. 11/19/39 Letter from HLC to [2035]: ”…We have tried to make a thorough study of the Life Readings, and, I believe, it is possible to say that more and more individuals are finding them helpful. Let me make a few general observations regarding these readings and then take up your specific questions.

“The first question [2035-1, Par. 44-A] which naturally arises in the mind of any individual who obtains a reading through my father is, ‘How can I be reasonably sure of the value of this information?’ As in your case, an individual comes to the work through having observed results in someone else’s life. Multiply these results thousands of times and you will have some concept of the data upon which we are building a study of this man’s work. Out of the nine hundred Life Readings there is not one which does not contain information which is accurate that could not have been known consciously by my father when the reading was given. But, these readings are not a collection of ideas handed back to you from your own subconscious mind, for if this were true they would be of little ultimate value. We believe that each reading is a translation from the individual’s akashic record, from the soul’s memory.

“Now our question is, ‘Does this man have the power to contact these records and if so is he able to select that which will be helpful to me now?’ There is no answer to this except in the results. Indeed the best, yes, the only real proof of the value of psychic information of any kind is

• results. This requires that the individuals who receive readings do something about them, that they study the reading and study themselves in the light of the information given. The hardest point to grasp is the magnitude of the scope. What is important to us today is frequently of little importance in the broad picture, while some obscure relationship or attitude frequently turns out to be extremely important.

“I hope that you will study your reading carefully and that you will give us the opportunity to help you clear up each obscure point. We are most anxious that you obtain the greatest possible benefit from the understanding of yourself and the suggestions it contains. Now for your first questions.

“After reading your data I am confident that it is only a use of words which is confusing. In your letter you say that you have never been religious in your study of truth. By this I take it to mean that you refer to religious as it may be applied to form, doctrine and dogma. The very fact that you thought enough to break away from a set form and have sought truth through various mediums of expression indicates that you are a truly religious person. In a true sense religion means seeking a relation with the Creator. Certainly your reading points this out all through it.

“Regarding the question about the group in Tulsa, the reading indicates that the basic thought you held to during your developing years is sounder in principle than the approach you asked about. The teachings and the life of the Christ are the standard toward which all readings point. An individual is bound only by his own mental attitude, not by forms or ritual. It is the principle which counts. The answer to this question does not indicate that you return to anything except the assurance of the tenets lived and taught by the Christ. In essence that is what the church stands for regardless of what the men associated with it do in passing these ideals on to the masses. You asked the question. The answer is no, very definitely, and there is indicated the path which you know within yourself - His life and teachings, - applied in daily life.

“In answering the question about your association with your children it is pointed out that you have had an association based on needs for a relationship growing out of the life just before this one. Their records were not closely associated with your own and could not be picked out in reading your own. For example, you may have had some connection with your children in the life before this which set up a need for this present association. Such a record was - not clear enough to be read in obtaining your own.

“I hope that you will write me fully about your reading. Take each section of it that you feel does not fit you or that you do not understand and make out some questions about it. I will be glad to write you fully about such questions until it is clear in your mind. What you do about it will then be your job…”

R3. 11/27/39 Letter from [2035] to EC requesting a Physical Rdg., for grandson [2068]:

”…Please thank Hugh Lynn for his kind letter. I intend to study my reading carefully before asking any further questions, and am trying desperately for illumination from within…”

R4. 11/30/39 Letter from [2035]‘s sister [1663] to EC: ”…My sister, Mrs. [2035], came to me for six weeks. She had lost her grip on life - in fact was wishing she could die and end her rather miserable existence. Her reaction to her life reading was pretty bad but I believe she has gone home convinced of its truth and determined to do something about it. She was pleased with your letter, Mr. Cayce, and with Hugh Lynn’s. I did what I could, with my little understanding, to help her. My deep thanks to you and to Hugh Lynn for your kindness to her…”

R5. 12/15/39 Letter from [2035] to EC: ”…I am trying hard to trust Universal Law for my supply and for a solution of the many problems I have to face. Would you recommend the same course of Bible study my sister, [1663], is taking for me also?…”
