This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of May, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Okla.

1. GD: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, conditions show a little improvement.

4. There has not been as much of the stimulating treatments osteopathically given as might have been.

5. These with the activities of the body as we find have been effective. This condition with the activities may not be wholly relieved unless better adherence is made through the coagulative forces in the lymph activity of the peritoneum and through the conditions which exist in the scrotum and the abdomen.

6. This may eventually necessitate operative measures to close same, but the reactions in the nerve system and the blood supply MUST be in proper order before such is undertaken.

7. It may be best determined as to when the body is in the proper condition for such measures to be taken, by the tests made of the blood supply for same.

9. (Q) What is it that comes down into the scrotum? (A) The intestines.

10. (Q) What causes the frequent bad breath? (A) Poor assimilation.

As we have indicated, the osteopathic manipulations should be for the relaxing and stimulating to the stomach for the drainage of the alimentary canal, or through the alimentary canal.

11. (Q) What is the physical cause for being unusually fatigued, cross and easily upset when he is hungry? (A) Nervous condition, as has been indicated.

12. (Q) Did the mentioning of “Mesquite trees” in the first Reading have any special significance? (A) Only that these existed in those points through which there was the passing when the location was made. It had nothing to do with the body, save the associations of the environs or surroundings.

13. (Q) Are we handling this body right physically? (A) There’s not full sympathy or cooperation with all of the treatments but there should be the body-building and body-preparation for correction.

If the individual who makes the applications doesn’t feel that he is competent, then give it to someone else!

We would continue in that manner as has been indicated.

R1. 2/28/52 Mother’s letter: “Many years ago Mr. Cayce gave a first Physical Reading and also a second Physical Reading for our son. Would it be possible for us to get copies of these readings? I cannot find ours and believe the osteopath still has them. I am particularly interested because I would like to report the results of the surgery suggested by Mr. Cayce. This is just one more case where the surgeon found the condition to be as described in the readings.”

R2. 6/10/53 Mother’s letter: “At long last I will attempt to answer the letter about [2068]. Let me outline his condition prior to the readings… [Here followed repetition of background as given in 2068-1, Par. R2]. He had had ear trouble, with pain; the usual serums and vaccinations, etc. Also birth injury, with resulting convulsions. (Why on earth we did not have more than just a physical reading, I don’t know.) Anyway, we hoped to avoid surgery, with what we felt would be a psychological shock. And so, we asked for a physical reading, with Mr. Cayce knowing NOTHING of the child’s condition. You will notice he said the trouble was in the caecum. Also, on the check reading that surgery would be necessary. My husband gave the massages and used the Wet Cell Appliance for several months, January through May or June. These seemed to help the nervous condition, and were discontinued when the weather turned too warm for treatments to be comfortable. The osteopath, Dr. Englehart, cooperated fully so far as we know. I have not yet gone to his office to check with him about the treatments, but hope to make connections with him at some time.

“Due to preoccupation with my own illness [leukemia], many things have been undone.

“We wondered about ‘mesquite’ trees also. There are none in this immediate vicinity. My husband says probably none for 50 miles to the west and southwest.

“We kept gradually and carefully preparing [2068] mentally for surgery, and one day in July 1942 he announced that he was ready. We had him operated 7/11/42 at the age of 10 years, 9 months, by Dr. Curt von Wedel. His report is not available. Briefly, he found that the caecum had descended through the right inguinal opening, and was wrapped around and adherent to the testicle. Thus, proving both our doctor and the reading right - not just a simple hernia, and trouble in the caecum. Surgery completely successful, and the fear of doctors never again present. [2068] graduated with a B.S. in chemistry this spring, and is now employed at …, Tenn., as Physics Assistant until September, when he will begin work on his masters degree. He has had a marked talent in chemistry since the age of 8, and must surely have had background in the field in previous lives. How interesting a psychic reading would have been.

“With both sons in college, a decreasing income, and continuing heavy expense, I will have to postpone renewing membership yet awhile.”

R3. 10/31/77 [2068]‘s aunt wrote requesting a copy of [2068]‘s reading.

R4. 11/7/77 Letter was sent to [2068] with copies of his two Physical readings requesting a report on his readings.

R5. 11/11/77 [2068]‘s letter:

”…I received a letter from you dated November 7, 1977 asking me to comment on readings made some 38 years ago…

“I will proceed by giving you a somewhat disjointed commentary on my life and then will try to specifically comment on documents [2068] although it is impossible to completely separate the two.

“I was never aware of my difficult birth until now. In a rather extensive diary of my childhood, kept by my father, it was recorded only as an R.O.P. Instrument Delivery.

“I have reviewed a diary kept by my father in a book ‘Your Child, Year by Year’ published by Parents Magazine. Surprisingly enough, I can find no indication of the concerns expressed in 2068-1, page 1 Background [2068-1, Par. B1] and 2068-1, page 4 [2068-1, Par. R1]. Very early in my life, age five or six, I hated to be left by my parents or mother, i.e. at school and I know I was terrified of this, but for no apparent reason other than vague recollections of various nurses or housemaids that we had, at least one of which I and my brother hated violently. Our parents took a long, long time to realize that what we were telling them was true - that particular maid left fast. I think my parents were on the edge of the very elite society and wanted me to be part of a society that seemed to me to be foreign to me in terms of my school and neighborhood friends. This may have been one source of my temperament, etc. alluded to in your records.

“My fear of doctors was somewhat predicated in fact through my own observation and VERY extensive reading, much of which was unknown to my parents - somewhere about the age of nine I could take the streetcar and later bum downtown where I would spend much time in the public library. I would sneak into the adult stacks. Finally, the library gave up and issued me an ADULT card at the age of ten. Perhaps my parents were preparing me for the operation (2068-2, page 3 [Par. R2, above]) but I was also, unknown to them, I think. They would have been surprised at the extent of my medical knowledge at that time. I didn’t understand the details of the techniques but I had found out that they had greatly progressed since the 1800’s and even after my mother’s appendectomy in the late 1930’s.

“Since your last records, I have become a professional chemist… I taught at […] University… I have been in excellent health since my hernia repair in 1942 and have had no hospitalization since that time…

“I’ll try to now go through the two readings and comment on various paragraphs but in general I find them vague in content.

“2068-1: …I’m surprised that my grandmother [2035] and my mother […] were members or Associate Members, but I do know that there had been a Cayce reading on me and that my mother was interested in a wide variety of organizations.

“2068-1, PAGE 2, PAR. 4, 5 [2068-1, Par. 10, 11]: I remember that Cocoa Butter was foul smelling!

“2068-1, PAGE 2, PAR. 7 [2068-1, Par. 13]: I am interested in what details you may have on the ‘Wet Cell Appliance.’ I remember it well; basically it was a zinc CuSOU Cu electrolytic cell. I think, with some gadgets. It would have been incapable of delivering any more than about 1.5 volts D.C. - not electrical VIBRATIONS implying an alternating current.

“We finally gave up on these treatments and I used the components of this ‘Wet Cell’ to perform various experiments in electrochemistry. I have VERY great reservations about the efficacy of the treatment described in paragraphs 7—10 on page 2 of 2068-1 [2068-1, Par. 13—16]. I would appreciate it if you could furnish me with the exact details of this ‘Wet Cell.’

“2068-1, PAGE 3, PAR. 4 [2068-1, Par. 20]: Very wise. Obviously Edgar Cayce knew a lot about nutrition. I think if I really had a nervous problem, it had its roots in nutrition. I have no recollection of problems with constipation.

“2068-1, PAGE 2, PAR.‘S 8, 9 [2068-1, Par. 14, 15]: What is ‘Atomidine’? The details of attaching the electrodes to the skin were evidently very poor. I remember that my father merely taped them on. He should have at least used a conductive paste, otherwise, the contact resistance would have been so extremely high that no current would flow.

“2068-1 ENGLEHART’S REPLY: [F.A. Englehart, D.O., page 5 [2068-1, Par. R3]] He was, as I remember, a kindly doctor. I don’t think he appreciated the nature of my problem. At one time he suggested some injections to close the opening in my abdominal wall, not realizing that the caecum was adherent to the testicle.

“In summary, I evidently did not suffer from my difficult birth, nor did my son who also had a difficult birth. I’m not sure what to make of the rest of your information that you sent me, except to assure you that I enjoy the best of physical and mental health - perhaps my lack of temper is of concern to others but I decided long ago that reason and rational approach to problems is by far the best way to solve them. Nothing can beat either combined with scientific reasoning…”

R6. 11/15/77 The aunt was telephoned and informed of [2068]‘s two Physical readings. She thought he had had a Life reading and decided she did not want copies of his Physical readings. She furnished [2068]‘s address.
