This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of January, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - [2086], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through Mrs. […].

Time of Reading 3:45 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [2086].
-
As we find, there are disturbing conditions which prevent the normal functioning or activity through the system. These disturbances, we find, are rather compound or complex in their nature.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find that disturb this body, [2086]:
-
The blood supply indicates an unbalanced condition in the metabolism of the system, as indicated by the pulse as well as the irregularity in the pressure through the heart’s activity, - also as indicated in the manner in which the glandular forces react to the various assimilating activities and the increasing of flesh or fat through portions of the body.
-
Also we find pressures indicated in the cerebrospinal system as related to that coordination between the impulses to the sensory force and the cerebrospinal, - which is a part of this taxation also; causing the conditions with the sensory system, especially as related to the eyes, the hearing, and ALL the organs of the sensory forces - the eyes showing the more reaction at present.
-
All of this, as we find, is a part of the disturbances which are causing those reactions which are becoming so disagreeable to the body in so many ways.
-
In the activity of the nerve system, - as indicated, the complex conditions exist especially in the upper dorsal and throughout the cervical area, causing improper reflexes to the optic forces through the vegetative nerve system; also the glandular forces as related to the activities of the thyroids, as combined with the glandular forces FROM these in the assimilating about the pancreas and the gall duct, and a portion of the duodenum.
-
As we find, then, in making the corrective forces, - first we would begin with the deep osteopathic manipulations; so as to relieve those tensions to the eyes and the whole of the sensory forces, as particularly indicated in those areas from the 1st to the 4th dorsal, and throughout the cervical area, - especially in the vegetative centers about the throat and neck and the side of the head.
-
Also we would begin with the Radio-Active Appliance; this to be used at least one hour each day, preferably as the body rests. And use such a period as the period for contemplation and meditation upon those creative forces, or constructive activity as related to the spiritual forces of the body.
-
In the diets, keep away from any quantities of sugar. As we find, take only the whole wheat or rye bread; and only drinks such as of the nature of grape juice. Take the unsweetened grape juice, or Welch’s, at least four times each day; three parts of the grape juice to one part of plain water (not carbonated). Take this about half an hour before the mealtime, and at bedtime.
-
Have more of the fruit juices, and vegetable juices. And at least one meal each day should consist principally of a combination of raw fresh vegetables.
-
Do these, and as we find we will bring the better influences and forces for this body, [2086].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What should be done for the eyes? (A) As indicated, these disturbances are from the incoordination between the cerebrospinal and the sympathetic nerve system; and the corrections that are to be made osteopathically will be for the betterment of the eyes.
If there is the continuing of inflammation, we would use of evenings the scraped Irish potato (old potatoes, not new ones) on gauze applied to the eyeballs themselves, or sockets, see? Let this remain on for a half to three quarters of an hour. This will draw the inflammation. Use only OLD potatoes, not new ones; and use such a poultice only if there is the inflammation or the burning of the eyes.
- (Q) What was the original cause of this condition? (A) As indicated, this is a combination, or a complication, or complex condition. A part of the disturbance arises from a glandular condition, and part arises from the subluxations as indicated.
Do these things, if we would bring the better forces for this body.
- We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/5/40 Mrs. M. B. Mayer’s letter: “I find your letter on my desk after returning from a few days absence. Thank you for your attention to the matter in reference to Miss [2086]. I had no idea that the appeal for help implied associate membership at $20. I am afraid I would not have suggested it to Miss [2086] had I known this was the case…
“I have read the report on Miss [2086]‘s diagnosis, and it doesn’t make much sense to me.” [4/25/41 GD wrote Dr. Frank P. Dobbins for a report on Miss [2086] as a patient but he had no record of her coming to him for treatment.]
R2. 6/4/40 Mrs. Mayer’s letter: “Miss [2086]‘s condition became for a time increasingly worse, and she applied for information as to specialists to one of my trainees who is in an authoritative position in one of the hospitals here. Through this specialist she is now finding some relief for her condition. I know that she did go to the osteopath recommended by you. If you would like to know why this was not satisfactory I suggest that you inquire of her yourself.”
R3. 1/13/42 Mrs. Mayer’s letter: “I think of your good work from time to time, and the ardent support which your son gives you and the movement. My lack of writing does not imply my lack of interest or good will.”
R4. 2/7/43 Mrs. Mayer’s letter to HLC: “Even from the little I know I believe your father’s work is a definite contribution not merely in the relief to physical suffering but in the enormous challenge it presents to orthodox and physiological medicine. And may I add that the splendid way YOU are aiding in this your father’s service has my sincere respect and admiration. Blessing will come to you because of it.”
Background
Background
B1. 1/19/40 Mrs. M. B. Mayer’s letter: “I am writing this letter to ask for an appointment for another student of mine who is having considerable physical difficulty… Miss [2086] has been very much overweight most of her life, condition ascribed by doctors to glandular disturbance. Recent years due partially to physical disciplines she had reduced considerably. Now is gaining rapidly with FAT IN LUMPS on both abdomen and buttocks. Eyesight poor. Treated by Dr. Bates and others over years. Rapid deterioration at present. Refused to wear glasses and eyes actually improved for a time. Is now suffering from EXTREME DEPLETION, HEAVINESS, accompanied of course by dismay and depression. EYESIGHT FAILING. Having been nurtured in plenty (though now without) is not a disciplined person, though in training at the school [The School of Applied Philosophy, Mrs. M. Benzengerg Mayer, Director] she has endeavored bravely, and has developed remarkably in certain directions (etheric-psychic).
“Questions: What can be done to turn the course of the physical deterioration? How regain physical vitality? (Curiously this down movement started after a summer of exercise and balanced living.) What is the prognosis for the eyes? How much has food to do with the dilemma?”
B2. 1/26/40 Miss [2086]‘s letter: “I am pretty sure Mrs. Mayer covered the present physical difficulty. It is weakening my already poor eyesight, my blood pressure at 100, a rapid gain in flesh, great fatigue and general exhaustion. My poor eyesight is handicapping my work and I am in an occasional depressed mood. How long is this going to last? I am especially looking for help for my eyes and the proper way for fat reducing which fits my make-up.
“I am impressed with the results of Miss [1984]‘s work with you.”
