EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2103] - this we have had before. Now, as we find, there are improvements in the general physical conditions of the body. While with the corrections as are being made in the cerebro-spinal system, as relieves those pressures as have long caused those refractory conditions in the mucous membrane and soft tissue in portions of the system, these corrections are gradually allowing the circulation to be improved in such a manner as to bring a bettered condition. True, there have been those reactions at times that have indicated the inflammation, or inflamed portions were being irritated. This may be expected; for, as is seen, the conditions - until the circulation can be so improved that the eliminations throw off in their NORMAL channels the poisons from the system - there will be occasional re-occurrence of these distresses.
-
In the applications for the improvement, as the circulations are being improved, we would find that would we add to those applications the INHALANT that will act as an antiseptic for the membranes that show the affectation from impoverishment, this will aid MATERIALLY in CLARIFYING the conditions, and aid in establishing a more ACTIVE and SOONER acting with the forces of the system.
-
We would also find that when there are those tendencies for an irritation in throat or in nasal cavities, or in the tissue, were this reduced - or, that is, the inhalant used as a spray - this would BRING an almost IMMEDIATE relief. This would necessarily have to be WEAKENED to apply directly to the mucous membranes. This would be reduced by the addition of water to solution, or that portion of solution, taking a tablespoonful of distilled water in an atomizer, add to same from the inhalant that of twenty (20) minims of the regular strength solution. This, for this PARTICULAR body, would be made in this manner:
-
To 4 ounces of grain alcohol, add:
Eucalyptol…30 minims, Bensosol [Benzosol] (solution)…10 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Benzoin…5 minims, Tolu in solution…40 minims.
Keep this in a glass corked container, at least an eight - six to eight ounce container. Shake solution when it is to be inhaled, either through the nostril or into the throat and into the lung.
-
As we find, from the effects of this congestion and the poisons that accumulate in the system, there is a tendency for the digestive system and stomach itself to be SMALLER than should NORMALLY be. We will find, then, that to use properties also (this only in addition to the manipulations and corrections, as should be kept up - though there should be periods of rest as there are periods of activities or of treatments, for these periods should be at least three to four weeks treatment and a two to three weeks rest WITHOUT the manipulations, that there may be the proper reactions in the system for that as being attempted, and as is being accomplished - though the inhalant and those weights, or those as food values that will gather FROM the system itself those poisons that accumulate in same, and prevent the proper assimilations from being carried on in the system, and cleansing the system of these will enable this to be changed, or to be corrected in a near normal manner) - we would take alternately, each day, half a tablespoonful of Milk of Magnesia, and the next day half a tablespoonful of Milk of Bismuth. This will keep down the tendency for acidity, and will make the assimilations of the foods more active and in a bettered state.
-
Keep a diet that is well balanced, but that is more BLOOD BUILDING and nerve energy building for the system. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is suggested for the condition of the eyes? (A) With the correction of those centers in the upper dorsal and the cervical region, as the general health is improved and the eliminations are aided better, as by and through the circulatory system, as in the digestive system, through those of the inhalants and through the applications for the mucous membranes - these, as we find, will CLARIFY those conditions for the eye. When there is INFLAMMATION, or a tendency of a burning in the lids and the eyeballs themselves, no better application may be made than that of an old Irish potato, scraped and this pulp laid over the eye of evenings. The next morning bathe same with a weakened antiseptic solution for the eye. These will clarify, or act as those clarifications for distresses in this area.
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 8/19/31 [2103]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, 105th & Ocean Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I am sorry to have to advise you that I am unable to get the Benzosol (solution), one of the properties of the Inhalant given in your reading. Can you tell me where it can be obtained? I have applied at a number of the leading drug stores here and they tell me they never heard of this drug.
I spent my second week at Virginia Beach with Mrs. Wright, who has the Wright Cottage. She regards you very highly.
It gave me much pleasure to meet you all again. I am certainly grateful for the help given me, and feel that the recent information gotten for me is going to effect a decided change in my condition.
Sincerely, Miss [2103]
R2. 9/2/31 EC’s letter to [2103]:
Miss [2103] …, Maryland
Dear Miss [2103]
I have your letter of the 19th, and I am sorry you have been unable to obtain the Benzosol. Under separate cover I am sending a $1.00 size bottle of this. As your prescription only calls for a small quantity, you may not wish to keep this whole bottle. In that case you might get your chemist or prescriptionist to use the quantity prescribed and you can return the bottle to us, as we will be able to use it from here.
Hoping this is satisfactory, and trusting you are feeling better, with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC [EC:GD]
R3. 9/27/31 [2103]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I am sorry for the delay in acknowledging your very kind letter and Benzosol. I am certainly grateful to you for getting the Benzosol for me. I have decided to keep the bottle, which I trust is satisfactory to you, and am enclosing $1.00 in payment for same. I have had the Inhalant prepared and have found it very effective.
Thanking you for your kindness and the help given me, and with sincerest wishes, I am,
Sincerely, [2103]
R4. 9/30/31 EC’s letter to [2103]:
Miss [2103] …, Md.
Dear Miss [2103]
I’m just in receipt of yours of the 27th, with enclosure, for which I thank you. We are indeed glad to know that the preparation has been effective. I feel sure, from the experience of others, you will find this most helpful in any disorder arising from mucous membrane of the throat or nasal passages. However, as has been indicated in your information, most of such disorders are the RESULTS of disturbance somewhere else, and are effects rather than causes.
We would certainly be glad to hear from you from time to time. With all good wishes, I am
Sincerely, EC [EC:GD]
R5. 7/27/33 GD’s letter to [2103]:
Dear Miss [2103]
As we haven’t heard from you in months, we are wondering if you are still interested in our work, if you are feeling better physically, and if you are planning to come to Virginia Beach this summer.
We would certainly like to see you and talk about the many phases of the Work that have developed, or been brought out, since you were here. We are now living opposite the Catholic Church, on Arctic Crescent, in case you do come and want to get in touch with us.
I feel that you would be interested in some data we have on Life Readings. If so, I shall be very glad to send it to you.
Have you been receiving the Bulletin each month, and do you like this way of presenting the Work? Please let us hear from you when you have time. I hope you will come to see us also in the near future.
With kindest regards and best wishes, hoping everything is going well with you, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Secretary to Mr. Cayce
R6. 8/8/33 [2103]‘s letter to GD:
Dear Miss Davis-
Your letter was certainly a pleasant surprise.
Yes, I am very much interested in the work of the Association, and enjoy reading the Bulletins. I regret that I have not been in a position to give some financial help. I am, however, enclosing
1 at this time, and shall endeavor to give1 monthly to the Association.I have wanted a Life Reading by Mr. Cayce, but have not felt that I could, or rather, should spend the money for same, as there is so much want and distress around us, and so many calls for help.
I am sorry to have to report that I am not so well, and expect to enter the Hospital on Aug. 14 to undergo an operation for a physical disorder of several years. I am hoping to be quite fit after the operation.
I spent the month of August, 1932 at Bernarr McFadden’s Physical Culture Hotel at Dansville, N.Y., and had one of the most pleasant vacations that I can recall.
I would be very happy to come to Virginia Beach again, and to meet all of you.
I sincerely trust that the Association for Research and Enlightenment has a very successful year ahead of it.
With kindest regards to you - please remember me to Mr. and Mrs. Cayce - I am,
Sincerely, [2103]
R7. 9/14/33 GD’s letter to [2103]:
Dear Miss [2103]
What a long time I have waited to acknowledge receipt of your letter and contribution of August 8th! Please forgive me, and at the same time accept our sincere appreciation for your letter AND the contribution. It is good to know that you are still interested in what we are trying to do, and anxious to help us do it.
I suppose you are home from the hospital by now, and I hope you are feeling your normal self again. If there is anything we can do to help, know that we are only too glad to try. Couldn’t you come down for a week or two and rest up? The weather is lovely here in September. If you saw the reports of our storm, you’re probably thinking that we don’t always have pretty weather; but that’s only happened once since I’ve been here - which is eight years. Even the old timers say it is the first storm of the kind since they’ve ever seen here. So, it must have been unusual.
Have you read our Life Reading data, explaining what the Life Readings are, etc? If not, I’d like to send a copy of the article to you. Just let me know. If there is any other data you see mentioned from time to time that you would like to have, just say so and I’ll be glad to send it.
While in Dansville last summer did not meet our friend Dr. Fredoon C. Birdi? He was associated with the Physical Culture Hotel there for some time. It must be a wonderful place.
We are getting along just fine. While we have to struggle for finances to keep going, I’m sure everyone else is doing the same. The monthly contributions, while small, are gradually increasing in number; so we hope to eventually have a steady income sufficient to keep up the regular routine work, just from memberships alone. The readings are certainly proving more and more worth while. Every day we have letters from those who have been helped, which encourage us and make us keep on trying. If it weren’t for such letters, Mr. Cayce would have become discouraged and quit long ago. But as long as he feels that he is helping someone, he has to continue.
I wish you would get a Life Reading. If there is anything you would like to ask about this type of reading, don’t hesitate to do so. In my opinion, it is the most worth while reading one can get - if one is not seriously ill and needing immediate attention in that respect.
One of our members is forming a Study Group in New Jersey, and I understand that Misses [1377] and [347] are joining. Are you interested in that phase of the work at all? I’m enclosing one of the new Active membership blanks, and you will notice on the back side a list of the various activities in which one might become actively interested.
Hoping you are feeling entirely well again, that we may hear from you again soon, and with kind regards from all here, I am Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Secretary to Mr. Cayce
R8. 4/18/34 EC wrote inquiring about her health, etc.
R9. 6/10/34 [2103]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I have greatly appreciated your letters and your interest in my welfare.
I have enjoyed reading the information given in the Bulletins I have been receiving from the Association and rejoice to know that so many are being helped by this work. I don’t think I am entitled to the Bulletins, as I am not a contributing member. It was my intention, as I wrote Miss Davis last summer, to give at least $1 a month. However, I have been under such heavy expense for medical care for so long that I have been unable to do many things I had planned.
I regret to have to tell you that I have not improved in health as I expected. I have become very despondent and have about lost all interest in living.
I feel quite ashamed not to have answered Miss Davis’ very kind letter of some time ago. She mentioned the Life Readings which you give & when I feel that I am financially able shall write for an appointment. Would you suggest a Physical Reading instead? I thought possibly you could see something in the future for me that would give me courage to go on.
I am enclosing the Ballot. I only know the two candidates whose names I have checked, but am willing to vote for anyone whom you suggest.
Thanking you for past help & wishing you continued success. I am,
Sincerely, [2103]
R10. 6/13/34 EC’s letter to [2103]:
My dear Miss [2103]
Thanks for yours of the 10th, enclosing your ballot and contribution. First of all I want to thank you for this interest and for your taking the time to return your ballot. I know it is hard for you to vote for people you do not know, but that’s what we are trying to do - get our members better acquainted; for it is helpful to be interested in others and their problems. While we do not want to broadcast that people do not want to know, we do want to make our members better acquainted with one another.
We certainly appreciate your writing, and also your contribution. Indeed we are glad to send you the Bulletin from time to time, if your are finding it worth while; and any time you find anything in it that you feel is worthy of comment - whether pro or con - we would like to hear from you; for that is the best way we have of knowing just how our members are receiving what we are giving out, and we want to give out that needed most. We believe we have worth while data on every subject imaginable; it is only a question of finding out what our members want and supplying it. Know that we will be glad to furnish you with anything we might have, on any subject.
I’m sorry indeed to know that you have not improved in health as you had expected. I’m sure I can appreciate just how despondent this has made you. From the experience of others, I do feel that a check physical reading would be worth while at this time; and you know we are only too glad to try and help.
About two years ago we had a request from a lady [Mrs. [757]] in …, Calif., whose physician had suggested that she write us, since he did not feel that he could do anything more to help her. In fact, she had been told at Rochester that she only had a few months to live. Naturally, when she got her reading, she took it to her physician - the one who had recommended it in the first place. About two months later she wrote that she was not feeling any better; in fact, she was suffering more, and asked what we would advise. Of course, we couldn’t advise anything except another reading. In the check reading she was told that the physician had been substituting and she had not received the treatments correctly. About two weeks later she wrote that the physician had agreed that the reading was correct, he had substituted. It so happened that her husband is a druggist, so he decided that the reading sounded sensible and was worth trying. He procured the necessary light treatments, etc., and yesterday I received her ballot; she says she is feeling fine. So, it may be that you should have the check physical first, and the Life Reading later; for nothing seems much worth while when you are not physically well. And our main purpose is to help get people well.
I am enclosing an Active Membership blank for you to fill out, as I do not believe we have one on file for you. This does not mean that you are to contribute anything other than your own means will permit you to do. You can pay for the reading just as you are able. Of course, this whole office depends upon the contributions from our members, but we feel that if we do our part the rest will come when and as it is needed most. First of all, our purpose is to serve. Then I’m sure that later you would find the Life Reading a most wonderful help. I have just today received a letter from a lady [Mrs. [541]] in …, New York, who is most enthusiastic about her Life Reading. But let’s see if we can’t get something worth while for you physically first. There are too many people receiving results for this to be just guess work, and I’m sure you can get them too.
Appreciating your interest, hoping to hear from you right away, and with all good wishes, I am
Sincerely, [EC:GD]
R11. 7/22/34 [2103]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I certainly appreciated your kind and encouraging letter of June 13th and hoped before this to be financially able to ask for an appointment for another Physical Reading. I will, however, have to defer same until my vacation is over.
I also received your letter of July 9th, asking for financial aid. I am enclosing $2. I regret I am unable to give more liberally, and trust that the contributions are going to be sufficient to meet the need at this time.
Sincerely, Miss [2103]
R12. 7/30/34 EC’s letter to [2103]:
Miss [2103] …, Md.
My dear [2103]
I am in receipt of yours, with inclosure, for which I thank you very, very much. I appreciate the interest and the response so many of our members have made at this time.
I had been in hopes that it was going to be possible for you to be at the Beach again this summer, and I am in hopes yet this may be the case, and that we may have the opportunity to try to be of a service when you are down. We like to talk over the activities of the Association. It is so hard to give in our little Bulletin a survey of the work that is being accomplished and of the very great number of people who indicate they are being aided, physically, mentally and spiritually.
I hope that you will let us hear from you as often as it is practical. Know that we are glad and willing to try and be of help, Miss [2103] whenever possible, and while it is necessary that we have some financial support for us to be able to carry on, we do not want any member to ever feel they are required to think of many first when it may be possible for us to be of aid to them at any time.
Again thanking you for your letter and for your contribution, and with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
