This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of May, 1931, in accordance with request made by Messrs. [1925] and [2122].

1. GC: You will have before you the bodies and the enquiring minds of [1925] and [2122], present in this room, especially pertaining to their project to establish studios at Virginia Beach, Va., for the production of moving pictures and the promoting of moving picture morals. You will give the prospects for the success and usefulness of this undertaking, and answer the questions which will be asked concerning same. [See 2122-1 on 5/12/31, especially Par. 19-A—22-A.]

2. EC: Yes, we have the bodies, the enquiring minds, [1925] and [2122] and their proposition.

3. In considering these - as we have had before - there are those conditions that would make same most feasible, most plausible. Under the existent conditions in financial ways and manners, as we find, this will not be consummated as SOON as would be desired; yet this, as we find, would be a real innovation in the way of promoting morals in an educational way and manner, that the good as may COME from same may not EVEN be measured.

4. Then, BEING such that is to redown [redound?] to the good of many, the proposition has of itself that that would prevent its becoming a failure once the ideal and idea is gotten across. The place and the surroundings - as has oft been given - is sufficiently close to such a large population, such an area, that it of ITSELF insures success. Also it, the place, is sufficiently remote or REMOVED from so LARGE circles as to make for better preparations, better surroundings, than has ORDINARILY been considered in such undertakings. There being all things considered, then, this should be pushed forward to the MAKING of same a reality.

5. In the considering, then, let’s present same in a manner as is reasonable, yet sane, yet in keeping with situations, conditions, time, places, and such. There having been some connections made with those who have IDEALS as concerning same, then be sure that connection is in such a shape and manner as to be WHOLLY relied upon. Then seek those channels through which that as is necessary for the disposal of WHATEVER necessary to insure a firm financial basis for present and future operations. These contacts may be made. While there apparently is a scarcity of ready moneys, also that such an undertaking - as to launch what must become a boom operation for any IMMEDIATE success - this is NOT an unreasonable condition to meet. Just contact ones with some vision, some ability to prognosticate the conditions as must ensue from a real undertaking of this nature. Hence the NECESSITY of being able to INSURE such individuals as may be approached that the profession, and one able to DELIVER, is SERIOUSLY INTERESTED and may be relied upon! Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Everything being ready except the finances, just how should we proceed to finance the undertaking? (A) Contact individuals such as those who are in touch, and associates with individuals who may take or may PURCHASE such as is NECESSARY for the financing of same. As E. R. Morris or Bill Cravis, [Wm. B. Cravis] or those that are in a position to join WITH these in the undertaking.

7. (Q) Are those connected with the enterprise the proper ones by which success may be achieved? (A) In such large undertakings there are many things to be considered when answering such a question. As the circumstances ILLUSTRATE, very seldom does one conceiving an ideal reap the greatest harvest from the activities of same. Hence for these individuals to associate with them those that are able to be VISIONARY, but not TOO visionary; able to see what WILL happen, yet not TOO anxious nor too OVER optimistic. Either of these, or BOTH of these may be relied upon, even as those undertaking same. They are able, they are worthy, they may make the success.

8. (Q) What Morris was referred to? (A) Morris - Chicago.

9. (Q) Through whom could they contact this individual? (A) Kahn David E. Kahn].

10. (Q) Who else should we interest in order to make it a success? (A) Don’t get too many! Get the RIGHT ones!

11. (Q) In what portion of the properties now under option should the studio be built in order to produce the greatest value on the real estate returns? (A) There must be more consideration than just real estate returns. To be sure, this must be considered as one of the first or the FOREMOST considerations, but this - as we find - would be about that place where the front entrance or gates are situated in the present, this allowing sufficient entrance to, and outlet for, all operations that would ensue from such undertaking; for the INLET and OUTLET MUST be considered, for it would BE that journey or that tour THROUGH same that would make for the better layout, considering the real estate properties.

12. (Q) What is the proper plan by which the properties under option may be disposed of to the best advantage? (A) Best consider this with those whom the undertaking would be considered with. Two heads are better than one, if one is a sheep’s head!

13. (Q) In what way can we use H. C. Meyer [Henry C. Meyer?] to the best advantage? (A) This we have considered before. [See 2122-1, Par. 19-A—22-A.] Don’t go too far! There are those conditions that enter in that would make for UNPLEASANTNESSES, other than being just the one that was the inter-between - as he may act for those interested.

14. (Q) Is Chester Beecroft the proper one to manage the proposed studio? (A) Very good, if you are sure of him!

15. (Q) Any further advice regarding this enterprise that would be helpful to us? (A) As we would give, as this: We would in the near future get those together that may be interested, and have a meeting with those, having Beecroft WITH same AT such a meeting. We are through.

MOVIEMAKERS SCOUT CITY FOR SHOOTING SITES

NORFOLK - The cameras aren’t rolling yet, but Hollywood moviemakers already are in town to research an ABC-TV disaster film at Ocean View Amusement Park.

A seven-member production crew from Playboy Productions arrived in Norfolk to tour possible shooting sites.

They’ll probably spend the most time inspecting the amusement park’s roller coaster, which is destroyed by a hurricane at the film’s climax.

Other locations that may interest them are the downtown waterfront, Old Dominion University’s administration building, the Hermitage Foundation, and the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE) in Virginia Beach.

Lawyer Joel B. Cooper, whose family owns the amusement park, said that the script calls for scenes at all these sites.

One of the characters is a graduate student at ODU, Cooper said. The ARE, an institute for psychic study, is involved because another character has a psychic insight about the impending storm.

There will probably be a picnic scene at the Hermitage Foundation, Cooper said, and waterfront scenes will be shot during the tall ships’ arrival for the Harborfest June 15-17.

There will also be many scenes shot at the Seaside Amusement Park along Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach, which the film makers will use as though it were an extension of the Ocean View park.

Actors for the movie, which will be aired in September, have yet to be announced.

Aspiring cinema stars won’t get a chance to audition this week, however, since the small production crew isn’t expected to cast anyone while they’re in town.

The full shooting crew is supposed to arrive in Norfolk June 4 and begin filming June 12. The filming could take up to a month, Cooper said.

The movie moguls will be taking advantage of the fact that the 76-year-old roller coaster at the amusement park must be torn down anyway as part of a beachfront development plan.

TV Schedules Norfolk Movie

NORFOLK - The two-hour movie filmed in Norfolk earlier this year will be shown at 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, on ABC (Channel 13 locally).

Originally titled “Amusement Park,” The name has been changed to “Death of Ocean View Park.”

The film stars Mike Connors and Martin Landau. Approximately 16 Tidewater actors have speaking parts in the film, produced by Playboy Enterprises Inc. in association with Furia-Oringer Productions. The film was shot entirely on location in and around Norfolk. - LARRY BONKO
