This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of March, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother - […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through Miss [307].

Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:50 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. …, North Carolina.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2139].

3. Now, as we find, the conditions that exist here are partially prenatal, partially the effect of conditions which existed in the manner of presentation and delivery, and the lack of care given the entity at that time, - combined with the conditions of the entity’s entrance, having to do with conditions which surrounded the parents at and before conception; and these are a part also of the general MENTAL conditions.

4. These, we find, may be materially aided. It will require patience, persistence, and will be a long time, - unless there is a closer spiritual awakening of those responsible for this soul’s entrance into this experience.

5. There are, then, as we find, material things as well as mental and spiritual things that are to be a part of that which might aid.

6. In the physical body we find there are incoordinations between the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal systems, - not only in the lacteals as related to the solar plexus reaction but also in the base of the head or brain.

7. And these as we find may respond the sooner if there are the adjustments - in making the applications - that would cause the nerves, that reflect to the optics, to come nearer in accord; thus relieving the tensions there and allowing a normal flow of impulse, as well as energies or supplies from the blood stream for resuscitating the nerve, muscle and tissue, as well as the reflex for the optics; otherwise, these will atrophy.

8. Then, - we would give, first:

9. Have adjustments, osteopathically made, that would relieve those tensions in the head, the neck; which should or must necessarily begin from the 9th dorsal and go to the 1st cervical.

10. These adjustments would require periods of three to four weeks, with a rest period, and then periods of the treatments again.

11. After there has been a relaxing, and some conditions showing improvement, we would begin also with the Castor Oil Packs over the lacteal duct, the liver, as well as the 9th dorsal and the upper portions of the kidney. Hence, these would be put AROUND the body, see? These would be given for an hour every day for at least a period of three weeks at a time.

12. Do these for the FIRST period.

13. When there are the indications of help to the optic forces, as well as the ability to assimilate and to digest the foods, then we would give further instructions.

14. Ready for questions.

15. (Q) Would he eventually lose his eyesight in his right eye? (A) As indicated. Atrophy means deadened.

16. (Q) Please give a correct diet? (A) Those foods that are easily assimilated; as cereals, fruits, milk, and especially citrus fruit juices.

Do these for the first six weeks, and after that - if there are the improvements as indicated that may be expected - these may be followed the more closely.

17. (Q) Is there any foods that he should not eat? (A) Don’t eat sweets or candies.

18. (Q) Please give the mother of the child some advice that may help her in aiding and rearing the child. (A) As indicated, this must be a spiritual awakening. Not that there may be said, Do this or Do that, but the desire must be created in the innate and manifested activities by accepting and doing that which is in keeping with the spiritual forces as manifested in the Christ.

19. We are through for the present.

“I will be glad to give the [2139] child the necessary adjustments in order to bring about a near normal condition.

“I will be able to take the child Saturday, March 23, 1940 at 2 P.M.”

R2. 3/30/40 Letter to EC from [2139]‘s mother:

“I thank you for giving me the reading for my baby. I am sorry that I can’t carry it out, but my husband objects. He thinks a medical doctor can treat him.

“With very best wishes I am,”

R3. 6/10/40 INDIVIDUAL CASE REPORT re Case [2139]:

(1) In your opinion did the analysis of the Reading cover the condition? “Yes” (2) Give symptoms of condition described correctly? “Eye decaying, feeble mind, weak in body” (3) What was the physician’s analysis of this condition? “Drs. didn’t know - took him to Duke University.” (4) Have the suggestions given in the Reading been followed as outlined? “No” (5) For how long? [No response] (6) Describe the extent to which improvements have resulted? “I have not been able to carry out the reading due to no cooperation.” (7) Comment. “I regret it very much.”

R4. 6/10/40 [307], friend of the family, wrote the following which accompanied the questionnaire re [2139]:

“The family is very poor so I had made arrangement for the Dr. to give the treatments free - also had asked a friend to board Mrs. […] and the child while they were in Norfolk. At the last moment the father objected to the child being taken from home. The mother was very much distressed, but [had] to agree with him.

“I know they would not be interested in [contributing to] the vault.”
