-
HLC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them, regarding his condition:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2168].
-
Now as we find, while conditions are very good in many respects, there are disturbances arising that are the effects of activities. And these should be acted upon in a manner as to be eliminated, else conditions will arise that will be hard to eliminate, and disturbances that will be of a destructive nature.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2168] we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
First, in the blood supply, - here we find indications of disturbances that are arising from activities pertaining to the secretions and excretions in the digestive system. Through the taxation to the organs of same, the liver, the spleen and the pancreas are gradually building a disturbance that is not only an irritation to the metabolism of the system but also, - from the character and nature, - causing a distinction in the heart’s activity that is NOT good.
-
It is not an organic condition, but a functional one; produced by the effects being brought into the system through those conditions or tendencies existent in this portion of the system.
-
Through the nerve supply we find that the body suffers at times from the general strain upon the whole of the physical organism; especially as related to those portions of the functioning organs that attempt to care for the distresses that are produced in the assimilating system, and to eliminate poisons arising from the conditions produced in pancreas, spleen and liver.
-
Hence the involvement that is gradually arising with the lower hepatic circulation, or those inclinations for the kidneys to cause an activity that becomes not exactly disturbing and yet something with which to be reckoned at times, - when those activities in the organs involved become excessive in the properties or drosses to be eliminated.
-
As to the organs themselves of the body, - here we find brain forces and their reflexes are very good.
-
The activities of the nervous system, as indicated, - arising from self- indulgence at times, - bring a strain to the reflexes - through SYMPATHETIC reactions to the body; yet these are very good in NORMAL reactions.
-
Conditions in throat, bronchi, lungs and larynx show strains, though not organically disturbed.
-
The heart’s activity, as indicated, is of a sympathetic nature.
-
In the liver and the digestive system do we find the sources, or the cause of that which may - without corrective measures - produce some conditions in which anxieties may arise, and shorten the ABILITY for activities of the body-physical.
-
The eliminations here are NOMINALLY very good, though - slowing up from general conditions - are at times heavily burdened by the excesses to be cared for.
-
As we find, then, - we would give rather the warning, - that there be the applications of a physical as well as of a mechanical (osteopathic) nature necessary to remove the damage, which may be said to have been already inflicted, and to bring resuscitation and bettered conditions for the body.
-
Each organ receives impulses from the nervous system, and the nervous systems. These are independent, and yet collective in their activity - in supplying energy and impulse to the actions of the body.
-
Then, the stimulations to areas where depressions or weaknesses have occurred, do occur, in relation to supplying impulses for activity of the organs disturbed, and eliminating the causes of these, will allow the system to gain a more normal equilibrium; relieving much of the tension that is at times necessarily supplied by such stimulations as to produce greater activity of impulse, either through the nerve forces or the bodily functions themselves.
-
Then, we would add properties in the diet that will create a better action from which assimilations may be had to aid the organs involved to gather helpful influences FROM that assimilated.
-
Hence, - we would have the hydrotherapy treatments which would be followed with the mechanical (osteopathic) manipulations to strengthen the impulses along the cerebrospinal system; and sweats, not too high but sufficient to stimulate the superficial circulation; also the hot and cold water applications to supply the reactions that create a better stimulation between the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal systems for better impulse and activities.
-
DO NOT GIVE ANY ELECTRICAL VIBRATIONS, for this would be harmful for the body, under the present conditions, unless there is a BETTER coordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal nerve forces.
-
But the sitz baths, the rubs with pine oils, as well as the rum and salt rubs, would be well.
-
These we would do in series; that is, we would take at least two of such treatments each week for two or three or four weeks; then leave off for a period of three weeks; and then have another series of such treatments. This will be found to be the more helpful manner of administering these.
-
DO NOT take stimulants, - such as properties with alcoholic content, - for these only FIRE the activities, as it were, that are already being disturbed. Light wines occasionally may be taken. DO NOT take malts, - for these supply an effluvium through the alimentary canal (that is already thinned) which would be irritating to same.
-
Then, as to the diet:
-
At least once a week take a Jerusalem artichoke (NOT the bulb variety, but the Jerusalem); just one, about the size of a guinea egg, taken raw, and taken WITH other foods at mealtime. Do not take it more often than once a week, but be sure and take it that often. Preferably have one day each week when this would be a part of the diet. This acts upon the pancreas and the spleen direct, in the amount of the insulin as will retard the tendency for sugar in the blood and in the system, aiding the kidneys to reduce the pressures, aiding the liver activity to be more NORMAL in relation to the functioning of the entire body.
-
Do not eat red meats. If meats are to be used at all, preferably have fish, fowl or lamb.
-
All vegetables and fruits (and citrus fruits) that are of the YELLOW variety, especially, are good; such as carrot juice, and carrots themselves. Not that these would be ALL of the diet, but they should form a part of the diet each day.
-
Refrain from too MUCH of sweets; though sweets of nuts and fruits are preferable to those from cane sugar.
-
Do these, - and if there are greater disturbances in the digestive forces, there may be given other measures to aid.
-
Using the mental and the PHYSICAL for greater activity, - these will bring better forces for this body, [2168].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any other suggestions at this time? (A) These do, as we find; and we will bring better conditions and ELIMINATE those tendencies, that may cause a great deal of distress.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 9/2/42 [2168]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce
Over two years ago you gave me a reading on my health at Bronxville New York. Your reading was later confirmed at the Presbyterian Hospital.
Before that you had given a reading on my brother-in-law [1568] which was almost 100% accurate, and not in agreement with Johns Hopkins.
I need your help again! My brother in …, Pa. is quite ill and none of the medical people are sure about the exact cause. Could you please take this man’s physical condition under consideration as QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE and send report to my office - … Bldg., … Ave., New York.
Thanking you in advance
Faithfully [2168]
R2. 9/16/42 EC’s letter to [2168]:
Dear Mr. [2168]
Have your wire of even date - have been waiting to hear from your brother - Mr. […]. Wrote him setting a period - as we would not take a reading on any one with out their permission if we knew it, but as he did not or hasn’t replied do not know the cause. Didn’t know whether he objected - didn’t know any thing about it or what. Will you please have him reply to my letter if he wishes the reading taken.
Will be anxious to try and help if we can
Yours sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
Of course if he doesn’t care for the reading will return your check.
R3. 9/22/42 [2168]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I thank you for your letter of the 16th, and I am sorry indeed that you were unable to give a reading on the physical condition of my brother.
It now seems that he did not wish to have a reading and, as a matter of fact, has already received a verdict from the hospital after an operation that his position is hopeless on account of cancer.
I do not insist on your returning my check unless you wish to do so.
With best wishes,
Very truly yours, [2168]
R4. 10/23/42 EC’s letter to [2168]:
Dear Mr. [2168]
Wish to thank you for your letter of Sept the 22nd. Sorry indeed to hear the verdict on your brother, wish we might have been the means of being of help. Of course wish to return the amt you paid, would have long since only some one messed me all up in sending me a bad check and have had a time getting straight. 1st time in the experience of the Assn have had such a thing, new experience for me.
Do hope your brother will not be too great a sufferer, hope they will give him the Cobra venom, that eases pain and is not habit forming - requiring more as time goes on.
Mr. [2168], would like to put you down for one of the special editions, of the book - “There is a River” the story of my life. Think you would find it well told and possibly interesting. May we not do that?
With every good wish and regards to Mrs. […]
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
