This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of September, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [218], through Miss [307].

Time of Reading Municipal Hospital, 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Princess Anne Co., Va. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [218]. Now, we find there are conditions as may be aided and changes made, that the forces as have been destructive in the system may be so changed as to PRODUCE that of a replenishing to the point where the body may be rid, at LEAST in part, of that as destroys vitality and the strength, and to be able to meet many of the conditions as would have to do with labors, work, or outside influences.

2. The conditions, as we find, are produced from that as was inhaled into the lungs in gas, and with the vitality being lowered, this has - in its activity - not solidified, or destroyed entirely the lungs proper, but it prevents the reaction of the blood supply through the system in a manner as to give sufficient of the oxygen in system, and through the blood supply, as to build PROPERLY that as is needed as strength or as vitality in system.

3. In meeting, then, these conditions - these, as we find, would enable this to be so changed, as that those conditions in the lung would not be of the NATURE IN their activity as is seen in the present; for, as may be seen from those administrations, the properties of medicinal nature would work with the replenishing system in a manner as that every portion of the lung area, as may be used in its activity, will be so clarified, so cleansed, as to make use of same to the resuscitation of the body itself.

4. In the characters of the blood, externally, these are entirely altered in the present, and necessarily so to meet conditions under which the body-physical labors. This, as we find, will make for bettered conditions and a usefulness for the body-physical in EVERY manner.

5. We would first prepare as this: We would take one-half bushel of apples. Reduce same to pulp, grinding. Place in a charred container that may be closed entirely, see? and the container should be at least twice as large as the quantity, when pulped. Keep this corked tight, yet keep where the activity of the action through which these will take place will create in the vacuum above same that activity of the fumes or gases from same. At least twice each day, after these have stood for three days, inhale into the lungs the gas only as comes from this fermentation in the charred container, see? Charred oak keg? Apple Brandy?]

6. During the period this is being inhaled, remove shoes and covering from feet - and cover feet with FULLER’S earth, that there may be that full activity, with the inhalation, of the system receiving the vitality throughout as may be gained from same. Remember: Man’s fall was eating an apple. He may be resuscitated through same, properly used. [Gen. 3:12]

7. In the medicinal properties taken, prepare as this; only using or making at one time three of the capsules. Place the liquid, though, in the capsule - this in each capsule:

Oil of Eucalyptus…1 minim, Rectified Oil of Turp…1/2 minim, Canadian Balsam…1 minim, Codeine…1/20 grain.

These will be taken one each evening, as the body rests.

8. Keep in the air as much as possible. Do not allow the GLARE of sunshine too MUCH on the body, but indirect rays are much preferable - even in the evenings, when there are dry days - or damp days - let the REFLECTED light, or the outdoors, be the PREFERABLE light for the body.

9. The diet - we would not alter or change.

10. Occasionally there will be found that, from the inhalation - as the fermentation progresses - there will be a residue, or a tendency to cough, or to expectorate. When this begins, use the inhalant as carries the alcohol with those of the extra amount of the Tolu in solution [538-18?]. These have been given as to their proportion. With the use of these, we will find that the body will respond - if these will be taken in their proper attitude, proper precautions, as to the activities. STRENGTH will be gained, and the clarification in lungs - from the mustard gas and from chlorine - will be changed. Ready for questions. 11. (Q) Where can the body go to get this treatment? (A) This will be a change from his present surroundings! but BEST to go to some farm home.

12. (Q) How long before he can see improvement? (A) In the strength and vitality, we will see improvement in the third week. In the second YEAR, almost back to normalcy - in STRENGTH; though endurance, of course, will be retarded.

13. (Q) How long should the treatment be kept up? (A) As long as necessary!

14. (Q) Will he be able to work during the two years? (A) Latter part of the second year, yes.

15. That is all the questions.

R1. 9/20/30 He wrote: “Your rdg. made me very happy… It was splendid of you to give me the rdg., and sometime soon I hope to be able to give you assurance that it will be carried out to the letter.”

R2. 11/18/30 He obtained 218-2, advising that he need not go to Denver Home for Tuberculars (as had been proposed) but could follow the treatment in Va. When asked how he became gassed, the answer came “By the inhalation of the gasses!”

R3. 11/22/30 He wrote: “Thank you so much for the ck. rdg. which I rec’d yesterday. I have forwarded it on to Mr. [257] so that he could see the answers to the questions he wanted to know. [218-2]

“Perhaps it will be possible to follow your suggestions real soon.”

R4. 12/2/30 Miss [307] wrote: “Mr. [218] left for N.Y. City Tuesday night. Mr. [257] asked me to get him off and then wire him. He has been wonderful to that stranger. I knew he was a splendid man but I never dreamed that he was so considerate of everybody.”

[GD’s note: We wondered at the time how Mr. [257] and Miss [307] could feel that they were following the rdg. for Mr. [218] simply by shipping him from one tubercular hospital in Va. to another one in Colorado.]

R5. 12/23/30 Mr. [257]‘s letter: “[218] whom I felt, once I had become interested in his case, I could not turn down - so far he has cost me several hundred dollars and it means that I, no doubt, will have to help him while he is in Colorado, but I am following the reading on that. [!!]”

R6. 1/3/31 Mr. [218] wrote: “I have thought of you many, many times since I have been out here, and how nice you were to me. The West is truly golden and glorious and I like it tremendously. There are 250 patients, about, in this institution, and we are located only 5 miles from Denver, in the heart of the ‘Rockies.’ I saw Mr. [257] when I came through N.Y. City and he spoke in very laudatory terms of you. Mr. [257] is one of the finest men that I have ever met and he has been just like an older brother to me. After I cultivate the physician here for a while, Mr. [257] wants me to ask him about letting me carry out your physical suggestions. I am real anxious to do so, Mr. Cayce, and I have the greatest confidence in you and your wonderful work to help others regain their good health.”

R7. 1/8/31 EC’s letter: “One man [Mr. [4874]], for whom we gave information some yrs. ago was in Colorado, close to Lookout Mountain resort, I believe. He had some trouble in getting his treatment followed. However, he changed from there and has been getting along wonderfully well for the last twelve months.”

R8. 5/9/31 Mr. [218] wrote: “Being placed in the position I am, it is rather difficult to carry out your suggestions. Perhaps Mr. [257] will see to that later. He’s a mighty fine man, indeed, and has great confidence in you.”

R9. 6/5/31: “I am feeling about the same as I did when I left Norfolk, which you so ably described in your last rdg. for me… I am confident that by following your rdg. I would feel like a new man in 18-20 months, but it’s impossible to do so in this and, I’m afraid, any other institution of this kind.”

R10. 6/25/31 Miss [307] wrote: “Mr. [257] requested the rdgs. and then has seemed to forget them. I am sure he will do the right thing, however, when he comes around to it. Mr. [218] wrote me he wished to remain out there and could get board very reasonable in a private home, if only Mr. [257] would agree to help him. He did not want a gift, only a loan until he could work.”

R11. 9/20/31 He, Mr. [218], wrote: “As yet, I’m not allowed any exercise whatsoever and am urged to remain in bed all of the time except for meals, but I feel pretty good. There has been a continued loss of weight, too, but I do not feel any the worse for that, however.”

R12. 10/12/31 EC wrote that the A.R.E. Prayer Group had put his name on their prayer list.

R13. 3/1/32 Mr. [218] wrote: “I had a very bad case of the influenza recently which left me very weak, but I am gradually getting over it now.”

R14. 5/12/32 See A.R.E. Prayer Group Rdg. 281-6, Par. 21-A giving the reason that [218] had been prevented from carrying out his rdg. 218-1: See 281-6, Par. 21-A: That as has been builded must be met every whit, until there is the whole trust of self in that that makes the law of recompense, or of karma, of none effect. It’s in him!

22. (Q) Where was he gassed? [See 218-2, Par. 4-A.] (A) In his labors in the last association.

R15. 8/5/32 Mr. [218] wrote Miss [307]: “I have already left the J.C.R.S. I was treated very ugly and nasty because I could not make my exit when they wished me to do so. A very blunt and curt note from the Medical Director in which he told me that under any and all circumstances I would have to leave Aug. 1st. I have been patiently waiting for transportation back to Norfolk for quite some time and but for the fact that the young man who has been a patient at the J.C.R.S. too, out of the goodness of his heart, took me in, I would probably be out in the street. I promised to pay him for my board as he has a time of it to make both ends meet. Here I am, in a strange city over 2000 miles away from home and more or less stranded. I have many, many things to tell you when I see you again.”

R16. 8/12/32 Miss [307] wrote EC: “I am enclosing Mr. [218]‘s letter, not to add to your already heavy list of people who bring their cares to you for advice on, but to let you see just how the ‘land lies’ with this unfortunate one. I am certainly at my wit’s end.”

R17. 12/20/32 Mr. [218] wrote EC: “I am back in Norfolk and want very badly to run out to see you after the holidays, if I may. It is only proper for me to greet you and thank you for your many kindnesses and Christlike deeds, during the Christmas holidays.”

R18. 2/10/33 Mr. [257] wrote: “Mrs. [296] has tremendous and wealthy connections. She is an official of the home in Denver who took care of [218].”

R19. 3/18/41 Mr. [257]‘s letter to EC: “Will you be good enough to find out from Miss [307] the address of Mr. [218] who has had T.B. for so many years? I want to contact him, and I have lost his address.”

R20. 4/5/41 HLC’s letter: “Mr. [218] is in the Grandy Sanatorium in Norfolk and I understand he is very ill.”

R21. 7/30/47 Miss [307]‘s sister, Mrs. [303] reported: “Mr. [218] is still living. He married a nurse and moved out West sometime ago, Arizona, I think.”

R22. 10/27/70 GD’s note: Webster’s Dictionary says: MUSTARD GAS

• Chemical. An oily liquid [ClCH(2)CH(2)(2)S], used as a shell filling in the World War because of its violent irritant and blistering properties.

Could it be, according to 218-1, Par. 1, 2, 8, and 218-2, Par. 5-A and Rdg. 281-6, Par. 21-A, 22-A, that the entity [218] lived in the late 1800’s and took part in the experiments which led to the use of mustard gas in World War I as a shell filler? Interesting!

B1. 7/9/30 He wrote: “I have heard so much of the marvelous work you are doing for mankind that I just had to write to you. I am a young man who has been confined to bed for almost five years with tuberculosis, but at the present time I am doing very well. Miss [307] told me of you and your wonderful work… I am at the Municipal Hospital, over on the tuberculosis pavilion. I am not taking any treatments under my doctor, but I would be willing to put myself in your care. I can not afford to go to your hospital, nor can I really afford to pay any large bill for a reading.”

B2. 8/25/30 He wrote: “Of course treatment of any kind can not be given out here, but I fully believe that a place will be found where I can follow your every suggestion… Fortunately, at present, I do not have any cough whatsoever, but my lung condition has been considered serious since 1925.”
