-
EC: Yes, we have the body here - [2200]. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions with this body. These, as we find, have to do with the nervous forces of the body and the effect that is created in the system from these pressures existent in the body, as WELL as we find disorders that are produced by applications that have been made for the disorders.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2200] we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this we find shows the effect of sedimentary conditions that have been administered for the body, these acting as an effect of bromides in the system, producing the inability of the blood supply to give that full virile force necessary in the full replenishing of the system. This rather the effect of applications, than the conditions that cause the disorder; yet these impoverishments must eventually, unless corrected, bring disorders in the physical functioning that will be hard to cope with, or will be beyond repair; for the deterioration must eventually set in by continued impoverishments.
-
IN THE NERVOUS SYSTEMS THEMSELVES, do we find the greater disorder or distress. In times back we find there was an accident to the body that produced a lesion in the coccyx. Here we find a seat or a cause which has been heretofore overlooked. While lesions have resulted from same in the lower lumbar, in the lower dorsal, and with the combined conditions that have been applied, we find SYMPATHETIC lesions in the whole of the cervical region. This produces, through these pressures, those spasmodic conditions to the reaction between the sympathetic and the cerebro-spinal system - which has been termed a MENTAL disorder. The reaction is not mental, but a physical - that acts to, or on, the mental - so that the reflexes that come through the sympathetic system are those that prevent a normal impulse from their reaction, causing that pressure, that condition in the lower end of brain proper that makes for the tendency of the body to move, to react in a wondering manner, to make as for responses of those forces in self of first condemnation in self, then as of that as to REMOVE those conditions from self. These come through, then, as repressions in first the sympathetic nerve system, from the lower lumbar plexus to the sacrals and coccyx, then to those activities in the glands themselves that secrete for the functioning through the pineal, and making for an engorgement and an inactivity or an ungoverning of the supply of impulse, as well as blood supply to the brain itself proper. Not dementia praecox, nor even softening of tissue. Unless these conditions are changed in the impulses TO the nerve system this deterioration must eventually set in.
-
IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS THEMSELVES from these variations, we find these are functioning - UNDER the condition - near normal, as do the reflexes at times from the whole system - but to remove or to change the vibratory forces of the body we will find that those pressures should be relieved that exist in the coccyx, the lumbar, the sacral, and coordinating those of the cervical forces that make for proper impulses through the brain forces. This may be done through the removal of the pressure in an OSTEOPATHIC ADJUSTMENT manner, provided those properties are carried in system that will replenish for the nerve energy itself, that will work with and not against a resuscitating or rejuvenating of the system. These medicinal properties would be better in the Mayblossom Bitters [See 543-5 formula typed below], that act directly with the nerve system itself. The dosage of this, as we would find, would be from three to four teaspoonsful each day.
-
Each evening we would also, as the body rests, use those vibrations that come from the Radio-Active Appliance, applying it to the base of the brain first, then to the ankle, in each anode - see? Apply the one first to the 1st and 2nd cervical, then to the ankle. First to the right, then to the left. This we would give for thirty minutes each evening.
-
The manipulations should be given at least three times each week, and one of these an adjustment.
-
As for the diet, keep away from those that are hard of digestion. Those foods that are nearer or more of the nerve building.
-
Do that, and we will bring - in three to six months - a near normal body.
-
Keep as much sunshine as possible, and companionship of a nature that makes for the uplifting and brighter side, creating within that mental impression of the whole replenishing and building body that which lives within, that may aid self most.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

(1/20/31 GD’s note: In re Mayblossom Bitters (or Passion flower Fusion) as mentioned in above reading, this prescription was given in Case 543-5 on 11/10/30 as follows:
Take 1 gallon of the vine, leaf, fruit, flower, of Maypop. To this add 2 gallons of distilled water. Reduce by slow boiling to 1 quart. Strain, and then add 6 ounces of 85% alcohol, with 1 ounce Tincture or Elixir of Wild Ginseng. The dose would be 4 times each day, half an hour before the meals and half an hour before retiring; and retire EARLY enough for the proper reactions of body through the evening or night.)

Dear Dr. Cayce,
I am indeed very anxious to carry out the suggestions given in the reading.
Just as soon as I reached home I went to see my neighbor of good standing, Dr. Jerome Knowles an osteopath he said he could not find the conditions in the spine as had been suggested in the reading.
He said he would try the case but could not promise to eliminate the trouble.
I find it impossible to make three trips a week to Virginia Beach.
Do you think by taking treatments from Dr. Knowles for six weeks, and then have him go over with us and talk to you and the osteopath, and giving him the tonic or bitters and using the Radio Appliance at home would be successful?
The bitters have kept him very quiet, sometimes I think too quiet.
Is there any thing in them to stupefy?
I would like to have another bottle as soon as you could send it.
You did not tell me the price.
I would like also to have one of the little Radio-Active Appliances.
I do not remember the cost of that, but I should like to begin as early as possible.
Please send me the names of some of the Doctors in Norfolk (osteopath).
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Mrs. […]

Mrs. […]
Dear Mrs. […]
I have yours of the 23rd, also the telephone message this morning. In today’s mail I am sending to you the Radio-Active Appliance. You will see how the little inserts go into the battery itself; that is, the leads. Then, the little anodes or plates with the tape of them are to be fastened one to the wrist and the other to the ankle, opposite sides of the body. Before this is attached to the body, however, the battery itself is to be placed in a glass or crock container with ice and ice water to be around it, up nearly the top of the battery itself. This makes the charge. I am sure you will find this will quiet the body, after possibly the first few treatments - for it will probably irritate him at first, having the strings tied to him. The little piece of emery board is to keep the anodes clean. They should be polished off; that is, the little plates, each time after being used. This should be attached for about an hour each day, especially when he rests during the day, or when he is ready to retire at night - for, of course, he has to be still during the time.
Also I am sending a one dollar bottle of the Mayblossom Bitters. The battery is $15.00.
I am certainly very sorry to know that you are not getting the cooperation of your local osteopath. I do not mean by this that I am finding fault with Dr. Knowles’ diagnosis or his findings, but I know from experience that he does not wish to cooperate with our work here. We have two or three patients coming now to Virginia Beach for treatment, from Newport News, because they cannot get the cooperation there that they desire. One of the patients Dr. Knowles examined and said he did not find any such conditions, and felt sure it could not have helped. Four other doctors have examined this patient and HAVE found the conditions described. That’s why I know you are not getting the proper cooperation. Of course, I understand that people who have no sympathy for a thing of this kind can see nothing in it, and do not want to see anything in it. I believe, though, that if you are able to get the full application of the treatments suggested it will be of help to your boy. It’s too bad that we can’t arrange some way for you to come to the hospital, or for the young man to be at the hospital. Of course, this is out of the question, as you say, for him to come back and forth, unless arrangements could be made for him to come with some of the others who come from Newport News. I’m sure that Mrs. [959] would be glad to arrange for you to come with her.
Yesterday I had a letter from Mr. [2504]. He seemed very much pleased to know that you had the reading for the young man, and felt sure you would be able to get results if you were able to carry out the suggestions made.
I believe, Mrs. […] that Dr. McCrary would be on of the best osteopaths in Norfolk for you to see, as he is in the office with Dr. Parker (who is the medical man connected with our hospital). However, Dr. Bright and Dr. Richardson are both good. Dr. Richardson and Dr. McCrary are both in the Bankers Trust Building. Dr. Bright is in a building across the street from them. However, I think I would prefer Dr. McCrary under the circumstances - as he is associated with Dr. Parker, who is connected with the hospital.
If there is any time that I can possibly do anything to help, please don’t hesitate to phone me or let me hear from you.
Sincerely, [EC:GD]

Dear Dr. Cayce,
Yours received also the Radio-Active Appliance with the Bitters. I am sending in this $16.00 to cover cost.
I have used the appliance only a few times, but I think it is going to be very useful.
I think the bitters are very good and I shall want to keep them on hand all the time.
I do feel that it would be much better if I could get to an osteopath who would fully cooperate, and I am trusting some way may open and this can be done.
I think some times it is as hard to convince a man as it is so often said of women.
Dr. Knowles has certainly been very kind also very frank, and I believe he is sincere but does not seem to be willing to be informed. I feel however the treatments have helped him, and I shall continue until I can find a way to finance it over there.
You said you would make it as easy as possible, I wonder just how easy that would be.
I would give any thing almost to be able to do this, and I could perhaps do so if I had a long time to pay for it, but not getting cooperation from my husband I find it mighty hard. At first I was afraid to take him over to Va. Beach alone, but now I am not afraid he seems so much better.
Dr. Knowles is one of our members, and he will be very slow to try to collect, that is why I can do even this much.
I believe my boy is going to get well, and I believe some way will open up for us to take him to Va. Beach for treatments, but how and when I am unable to say, I believe it is the works of God and I believe it will come out O.K.
Mrs. [959] came to see me, and she said she would be glad for us to go together, but she is here for only one month and not being able to see my way clear I am afraid I can’t depend on that.
I thank you for your kindness and interest, and if you can help to throw any light on the situation I shall be very grateful to you, I am not satisfied as things are for I want to carry out instructions to the letter.
Hoping to hear from you soon
Sincerely, […]

Dear Dr. Cayce,
Have looked for a letter in every mail but I hope no news means good news. I am writing today for some more of the Bitters, for I do not want to miss a single time giving it.
[2200] is improving or in any case it seems so, and I am not willing to give up unless I find it impossible to carry out instructions.
How is the cheapest and best way to buy the bitters? If I can save by buying several bottles, please send me same, or if it is best to get one bottle at the time on account of it freshness, please send that way.
I’ll send money at once.
If you can give any suggestion as to leading to my getting [2200] to the hospital I shall appreciate it very, very much.
Most sincerely, […]

My dear Mrs. […]
I have yours of the 31st, with enclosure, for which I thank you.
It is seemingly very unfortunate that you are not able to get the cooperation necessary from your osteopath. It might be possible to work the matter out, where you would be able to bring him to the hospital for his treatments on the days when Mrs. [959] comes - though, as you say, this may only be a temporary arrangement. However, as we can see, it might only be a temporary arrangement even to come to the hospital - so it may be the very best, that you either make arrangements with your doctor there or with someone in Norfolk - if we are able to work it out there or with someone in Norfolk - if we are able to work it out in that direction. I will let you know about this as soon as I can get a definite reply from the people who are interested in assisting some of the patients to get their treatments carried out, who are not able to do so themselves. Of course, we depend upon those to contribute to this, for we are not able to do it ourselves
- and, inasmuch as the people who HAVE been making contributions feel they are no longer able to do as much as formerly, we are hindered in that direction.
I’m sorry to know that your husband doesn’t feel he can give you the cooperation necessary. Please understand, I do not hold it against anyone. I only wish that he might have the chance to talk with someone who HAS had experience with the work, and get their reaction. Let’s just hope and trust and pray that we will be able to show such marvellous results in the near future that he will be inclined to be more in sympathy with it; for by the fruits we are to know the worth. We know that all force emanates from one source. We make it worth while in our lives through the application.
Assuring you of our desire to be of help in any way possible, and trusting you will let us hear from you from time to time, I am
Sincerely, [EC:GD]

Dear Mrs. […]
We had yours of the 5th, and immediately mailed to you the Bitters. I hope this was perfectly satisfactory.
Every day we have been expecting to know more about just what will be the status of the institution here. There is to be a meeting of the Association board the latter part of the month. After that time I will possibly be able to tell you more definitely the plans of the work.
I am indeed pleased to know that you feel [2200] is on the improve. I certainly trust that you will be able to carry out the suggestions just as close as possible to be done. I feel that you, with him, will get the results just as so many thousands of others have. I BELIEVE that much in prayer and doing things. The kind of faith that stands still doesn’t mean much, but as James said, “Show me your faith by your works.”
Trusting that [2200] is still on the improve, hoping that everything will come around for the very for us all, and with kindest personal regards, I am

Dear Dr. Cayce,
Thank you so very much for sending the Bitters so promptly.
I am sorry I have been so long in answering of same, but I was in Portsmouth when they came and my trips back and forth to Norfolk have taken so much time. I went to Dr. McCrary three times I think he is very fine, but I find it too much for me getting [2200] back and forth to him for treatments. The last time I was over there I had quite a time getting him to come home and I realized it was running too great a risk.
Dr. McCrary said he did not think it was safe for me to be with him alone.
I just don’t know what is best to do.
You said you wanted us to return in six weeks so you could check up on what had been done.
Will there be extra charges for this? Please explain to me just what this calls for, and I can make arrangements if possible.
I have been giving Bitters and also the treatment with the Radio Appliance, and eleven treatments from an osteopath.
Dr. McCrary said he had loosened up his back, and he thought I could take him to the country and he would get well more naturally. He also said a mental case of this kind was one of the most difficult to manage.
I don’t want to feel that it is a hopeless case, but I have just about come to the end.
I’ve done about all in my power to do. I’ve prayed for guidance, and I’ve followed the best I could.
I am sending $4.00 to pay for Bitters. If the Hospital closes will I still be able to get the Bitters?
I trust your plans may work out for good.
Sincerely, […]

Dear Mrs. […]
I have yours of the 19th, and am indeed sorry that circumstances are such that it is impossible for you to have [2200] go on with the treatments. I’m sure you realized from my first letter to you that I didn’t think it was safe for you to attempt to take him back and forth yourself, but if you were able to get him away from present surroundings I feel very sure you would be amply repaid, if he could go on with his treatments. I would suggest, Mrs. […] that you write to the Still-Hildreth Institute at Macon, Missouri, and see if you can make arrangements with them to take care of the case. I know you realize that if he is to stay in the State institution it will not be a great while before it would be a hopeless condition, and he is much too fine a man for this to be allowed to come about, if it is at all possible to prevent it. I’m sorry that we are not in a position to do more, but the Lord knows what is best for us all - and we must just know that our burdens are not more grievous than we are able to bear; that He has a purpose in whatever may be that burden.
I received the check, and if the hospital closes I think we will be able to prepare this for you from time to time, or get it prepared. We are trying to make arrangements toward that end, and have quite a bit on hand as yet.
I’m glad to have known you, and I hope - if at any time you feel it possible for us to be of any service, in any way - that you will not hesitate to let us know.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, [EC:GD]
