EC: Yes, we have the body, [2209]. Now, we find disorders of a distressing nature at times throughout the system. The elemental conditions are such as to cause a combination of disorders. The seat or cause of condition alters, as to varied effects as are produced by applications made, or conditions arising from same; so that, as WE find, these are as effects just now in the system:
-
Debilitation in vitality, in strength, in blood supply, in the plasm as makes for building energy that is coordinating in system. Tendency for there to arise adhesions, from the lack of that quality in the blood supply as will produce normal circulation through the lymph and emunctories of the body. That tendency for the internal system, as related to the producing of that necessary element in the gastric forces of the stomach and intestines, as to carry on the proper assimilation or peristaltic movement through the body. The effects of producing the adhesions in the intestinal system, in the organs of the pelvis, these give the greater distress and acute pains through the body. The effects to the circulatory forces, to the extremities themselves.
-
In meeting, then, the needs of these varied conditions, we will find that - were we to bring that for a near normalcy - all conditions must be considered as a whole, and not as one specific thing, other than for a little period of time, or an alteration of the cycle of effects as maybe seen in a functioning organism.
-
In meeting, then, we would find that, that activity in the system to change the vibratory functioning of the organs themselves, must be principally through the taking into the system of herbs or of vegetable compounds, as a stimuli, or as a cardiacal effect on the whole system; which will aid in that assimilated being distributed IN a manner as to KEEP the lymph circulation - or the tissues of the body - nearer in an active manner.
-
Prepare first, then, as this - making this as a carrier:
-
To 16 ounces of distilled water add Wild Cherry Bark 6 ounces. Reduce by slow boiling to 1/2 the quantity. Then add:
Simple syrup… 2 ounces, Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla…1 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…1/4 ounce, Syrup of Rhubarb…1/2 ounce, Tincture Valerian…1/2 ounce, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce, Tincture of Capsici…2 minims, Grain alcohol…2 ounces.
Shake the solution together before the dosage is taken, which should be half a teaspoonful 4 times each day.
-
Every other day there should be the application of the ultra violet ray, or light, for at least 2 minutes in the beginning - and at least 38” to 40” from body. PREFERABLY, apply this to the spine. The time may be increased as the body adjusts itself.
-
We would also use the manipulative measures, either those of the osteopathic or of the general or gentle massage, every other day.
-
The diet should be - this as an indication, though it may be altered as conditions arise in the body:
-
Mornings - gruels or light cereals, altered occasionally with the citrous fruits. Eggs, if taken at all, only the yolks - and this either raw, IN milk, or soft boiled or coddled.
-
In the noon - these should consist principally of the raw vegetables, fruits, and nuts in SMALL quantities.
-
Evenings - would be the juices or broths of meats that are fresh and without fat, or wild game. Here there may be taken small quantities of starchy foods, but these should always have a dressing that is not too oily.
-
Small quantities of olive oil should be taken continually; that is, as the system is able to absorb same - beginning with a few drops - give small quantities of pure oil every 2 or 3 hours.
-
Keep down temperature by the oil and alcohol rub, especially along the spine - from the LUMBARS to the head, see?
-
Do that. Then, in 10 to 25 days we will give the changes necessary. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What originally produced this condition? (A) From serums in the system, taken externally, affecting the lymph’s circulation.
-
(Q) What oil should be used with the rubs? (A) The Russian White Oil, or any of those that will be absorbed in the system. We are through for the present.

Mr. Edgar Cayce. Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I received the copy of my reading yesterday and would like to ask a few questions concerning same. All the conditions which you described do exist but there is one other trouble that I have which worries me more than anything else and that is in my nose and throat. These big scabs form somewhere in the passage between the nose and throat and there is always the feeling of wanting to draw them down and clear the throat. When I lie down at night there seems to be a drip in the back part of the throat that worries me terribly. I have had five operations on my nose and am still no better.
Now it may be because I did not understand all of the reading but what I want to ask is, do you think this treatment would help that trouble as well as the others?
And then one other thing, is it necessary to take the oil and alcohol rub if I do not have a temperature. So far as I know I do not run a temperature now.
Would it be too much trouble Mr. Cayce for you to send me a diet for one day. I did not understand exactly about it, whether or not I can eat bread or what to drink etc.
I wish I could come to the hospital but it would be impossible at this time and I can get all of the treatments here.
I will be prepared to start the treatments just as soon as I hear from you.
Yours truly Mrs. [2209]

Mrs. [2209] …, Ky.
Dear Mrs. [2209]
Replying to yours of the 28th, I want to beg your pardon for not answering sooner - but there has been so much change and so much to do recently, it seems I have had to neglect my correspondence a great deal.
It is my understanding from the reading, that while the condition exists in the nasal passage, the greater portion of it is of a secondary nature; that is, produced from other causes in your system, and while it will no doubt need some local attention, if the other corrections are made this condition would clear up very materially. So, if you will go ahead and have these carried out, I am sure you will find results.
As for the diet, I am asking our doctor at the hospital to make this out for you - and it will be sent almost immediately.
Yes, I wish it were possible for you to come here, even though for just a little while. I feel very sure you could get started on your treatment in such a way as to insure the regaining of your health very soon.
Hoping, though, that you will follow these, and let us hear from you from time to time - with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, [EC:GD]

Mr. Edgar Cayce. Cayce Hospital Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce.
It has been about six weeks now since I started taking my treatments and I am writing for a little more advice.
I have had the osteopathic treatment one day and the violet ray the next as you suggested and have also followed the diet and taken the tonic as prescribed.
Up until about a week ago I felt that I was beginning to improve some, but since that time I seem to have gone back until my head trouble is nearly as bad as ever. Of course I did not expect to be cured in a short time but still I am disappointed in that my improvement did not continue. I am now about half way thru my second course of treatments and am afraid that I will have to stop when I have finished this course if I do not begin to improve again, as I am not financially able to continue unless I felt that I was being benefited.
My tonic is about out and I would like to ask if I should have the prescription refilled. I just thot perhaps you might be able to give me some further suggestions and if so I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanking you very much for any help you may be able to give me I am,
Sincerely Mrs. [2209]

Mrs. [2209] …, Ky.
Dear Mrs. [2209]
Replying to yours of the 5th, I am sorry to know that you feel you have begun to be on the standstill, or down grade instead of improve. I am sure, though, that you should have the prescription re-filled.
Also have THIS prescription filled. You can get your doctor to write it, or possibly Ed Higgins can fill it for you.
To 4 ounces of grain alcohol, add:
Oil of Eucalyptus…20 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Rectified Creosote…5 minims, Tolu in solution…40 minims.
Keep this in at least an eight ounce wide-mouth glass-stoppered bottle. Shake the solution and inhale directly from the bottle deep into the nostrils, or into the lungs. I’m sure you will find that at first it will be rather severe, and you will not be able to take more than possibly one inhalation at the time - for it will burn, or set up a burning sensation. You are to only inhale the fumes, to be sure. This is one of the very best antiseptics that has been given for any trouble of this kind.
On this coming Monday afternoon, between the hours of three and five o’clock our time - which would be between two and four your time - we will get a check-up reading on your condition and see just what is the trouble. Perhaps your treatments need to be changed now. Please be at home on Monday afternoon.
Hoping that we can be of service, I am
Sincerely, [EC:GD]

Mr. Edgar Cayce.
Dear Sir.
On October the twenty-third nineteen hundred and thirty, you gave me a physical reading. I followed your instructions to the best of my ability. The results were not satisfactory so I wrote you requesting the check up reading at the interval suggested by you and received no reply. After waiting a few days I wrote again and did not get a reply to that letter.
I had decided to let the matter drop until Lena Jones Wicks who was a neighbor and is very dear friend of mine induced me to talk the matter over with your father, Mr. L. B. Cayce who is here on a visit at this time.
After reading your diagnosis, he was convinced as am I, that the treatment given me by the osteopath was not according to your instructions.
I followed the diet carefully and took the prescription and as before stated did all I could to carry out your instructions, but with my limited knowledge of medical terms I was easily deceived as to the treatment.
Mr. Cayce advised me to write you stating the case and request that you yet give me the check up reading to determine the absolute facts as to my physical condition. I can assure you that since my conversation with your father I will not be so easily deceived and will by careful watching; be able to ascertain whether the treatments are as prescribed by you.
I have the utmost faith in your ability and if fortunate enough to get the check up reading will do my best to follow instructions.
Sincerely, [2209]

R6. 8/18/32 EC’s letter to [2209]:
Mrs. [2209] …, Ky.
My dear Mrs. [2209]
Yours of the 11th was quite a surprise to us. We have never failed to answer a letter. When you wrote us that you desired a check-up, we immediately answered giving you an appointment and asked that you confirm it. Naturally, when we did not hear from you by the time set, we felt that you were not cooperating with us in the undertaking, and we could not get the reading. I am sure the letter must have gone astray, else you would have answered.
We shall be very glad to make an appointment for you for a check-up. As you will see from the data being sent to you, our new organization is a little different from the last one under which we were operating at the time you had a reading. I am only allowed to give information for members of this Association. The enclosed membership application is an Active one, to which you are entitled from your past interest in the work. Active Members are asked to make contributions from time to time as they are financially able, so that those who are not able to obtain information may have the opportunity of doing so. However, every individual who obtains a reading must fill out and sign a membership blank for our files. Just today we have an appointment to make for a child, whose application is being sponsored by the American Legion of West Virginia. Another in the same vicinity has been sponsored by a church.
I am indeed sorry that you haven’t gotten the results you anticipated, but I am sure - from the experiences of the past
- where there is the wholehearted cooperation in following the treatment outlined, the results come as promised.
Hoping that we may hear from you right away, and assuring you that we will make the appointment as soon as possible after receiving the formal membership application, I am - with all good wishes,
Sincerely, ASS’N FOR RESEARCH & ENLIGHTENMENT, INC [EC:GD]
