This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of September, 1931, in accordance with request made by her husband - Mr. [279].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2261] - this we have had before. There are changes in the physical forces of the body since last we had same here. While in many respects the physical conditions are very good - some improvements are shown - there are those conditions that have arisen, that come from infection forces from within. As is seen from conditions as exist in, or on, the Fallopian tube, as well as those in the COLON itself FROM this inflammation. This combined with the tendency as HAS existed from toxic forces in digestive system, and from the mucus membranes in throat and bronchi, makes for a debilitation that is not so good.

2. As WE would find, these may be removed easily in their inception, or in their beginning, are there applied [if there are applied] those forces as will make for CORRECTIONS in these regions and areas, so that drainages are set up and ELIMINATIONS are carried on in the system in the PROPER way and manner, and the blood supply clarified in such a way and manner as to LOOSEN those tendencies of plethora in portions, and correct conditions.

3. We will find that, with the manipulative forces given at least twice each week, and at least THREE times each week - not on the days that the MANIPULATIONS are given - take those vibrations from the charged wet battery containing the iodine in charge, and this attached to the body in the 4th LUMBAR and in the 4th or 5th dorsal - see? This we would attach in this manner, when charged: We would attach first that of the anode from the SMALLER plate, or from copper plate and copper anode, to the 5th and 4th DORSAL center (this will come with the heart’s action). Then we would attach the larger plate to the 4th LUMBAR center. This will make for a tendency, if allowed to stay too long, of nausea - but do not keep this charge on longer than there is seen that the PULSATIONS have increased more than ten to twenty beats - see? That will require from thirty to fifty minutes; not longer than thirty-five to forty minutes, then, would be the beat - or the application. This is BEST to be taken as the body RESTS in the afternoons.

4. We find ALSO that were there taken internally those of the atomic iodine in very MINUTE doses, see, this will tend to CLARIFY the system as to its blood condition. This we would take three drops in half a glass of water twice each day for five to ten days; then leave OFF entirely for three to five days, and we will find that - with precautions as respecting the diet, as has been outlined for that as will be a well balanced diet, easy of assimilation, and keeping eliminations properly through the alimentary canal - that there may be no more irritation in the colon than can be helped - these, we will find, will bring about a normal condition of this body, [2261]. Ready for questions.

5. (Q) Is an operation needed now? (A) As we have indicated, will [if] these changes [will] be brought about in the system, as WE would find, an operation would NOT be necessary. To be sure, should the conditions continue to enlarge, or inflammation arise, or pain become over severe, then would be necessary for operative sources - but when the pains occur, WE would apply rather those of hot packs of Epsom Salts to reduce pain, and keep up those conditions as has been outlined.

The manipulations will be for keeping the drainages well in the system, from head, lungs, in the abdominal regions, and in the pelvic regions. Hence the manipulations OSTEOPATHICALLY will be the better treatments, twice each week. Vibrations three times each week, not on days that treatments are given. Do not overtax the body by an overcharge, be mindful of the change in the pulsation - these would be charged; with the iodine preparation, taking internally twice each day for a period of five days, and rest a period of three to five days. Three drops in half a glass of water, morning before breakfast and before retiring at night.

R1. 9/16/31 Husband’s letter to EC: ”…I wonder if you got a reading for my wife yesterday. I spoke to her on the phone last night and she said she wasn’t at the apartment between 11 and 12 EST. She said I neglected to tell her the time. I felt quite badly about it, but somehow hope you got the reading anyhow! She was supposed to have an attack of appendicitis and some ovarian trouble. The Dr. who operated on [943] [I. Daniel Shorell, M.D.] told me he thought she would be better off with her appendix out but he said it would not be imperative unless the pain continued and the inflammation got worse. Well when I took her home and she was in such a nervous state - so I called you. Afterwards the doctor, our family physician - said there was absolutely no thought of an operation as far as he was concerned. He does, however, want her to go to an internist in Phila., a specialist whom he knows, so I hope the reading was gotten somehow…”

R2. 9/19/31 EC’s letter to her husband, Mr. [279]: “I certainly hope that the information for your wife was satisfactory. Now regarding the battery, which should be made, it will be impossible for us to charge it here and send it through the mail. I believe we could prepare it, and then you could have it charged in […, N.J.] - for, to be sure, the chemicals would spill out if we attempted to ship them. It’s hard enough to move them around even in the same town. This would have to be done in a very DEFINITE way, though I think it could be done at any of the battery stations - those that make a specialty of charging batteries, as the Willard Battery Service or the Exide, or the like. The iodine is charged right in the solution, so that when it is applied to the body the solution discharges, so that the atomic activity of iodine is received into the body. Let us know whether you want us to make this up for you or not. I am sure you would have to attend to it personally sometime when you are in […, N.J.], or have it done when Mrs. [2261] moves to N.Y. This is one of the things that has been given for some years, and so far as any of our records will show it has certainly been a most effective treatment wherever it has been prescribed, and with most marvellous results.”

R3. 2/29/32 Husband’s letter: “[2261] is laid up with the flu. She’s been down since last Thursday night - this evening she seemed somewhat better.”

R4. 3/30/32 “I am pleased to report that [2261] is improving considerably.”

R5. 2/13/34 Husband’s letter: “I don’t know whether you have heard that [2261] had her appendix removed by Dr. Shorell. She had a very easy time of it and home in ten days from the hospital. She is getting along fine. It was just two weeks ago today that she was operated. I certainly think very highly of Shorell’s ability as a surgeon.”

R6. 2/23/34 Husband [279]‘s letter: “[2261] is feeling well. Dr. Shorell said she had adhesions when he removed the appendix, and he wanted her to take it easy for quite sometime. I believe he is a wonderful surgeon, and I feel sure she was in the best of hands with him.”
