This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of December, 1927, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [230].

Time of Reading 3:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. San Antonio, Texas.

1. LBC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions; also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.

2. EC: Yes. Now, we find there are those conditions in the physical forces of this body that cause disturbances. Many of these may be corrected and the body brought nearer to a normal manner of functioning. Not that tissue once destroyed may be made anew, save by ridding the system by the renewal of conditions that create or build new forces in the body; for we find that the body as a unit, or as a whole, is made up of innumerable bodies, each a whole universe within itself, and when there enters any condition wherein cells or units become destructive within or among their own selves - that as has been given, “A house divided against itself will not stand.” Hence there becomes - under such conditions and circumstances - the necessity of adding in this or that form to meet the needs of the conditions producing same, that which will create that combative element, not only sufficient to destroy or to allay that producing destruction, but that which will assist same in being eliminated entirely from the system, or sufficient resistive forces within the body that in the cycle of change as comes about with each human anatomical force, there may be rebuilded that proper condition to carry on within the whole body that necessary force for the replenishing throughout.

3. Now, in this body here, [230], we find such destructive forces have entered in. These come as a result of scar tissue being produced within the system without the proper condition being regulated in the blood supply for the perfect coagulation to take place. These units, then, of energy, within themselves, or cell force as find lodgement within and upon the system, bring about such destructive forces as to give to the system that inability of the reserve forces, or reserve energy being sufficient to meet the needs of the condition. This is exhibited in the blood stream itself, shown in condition in throat, lungs and respiratory system, as well as that which must be looked after the more - the kidneys and the liver, for THESE also, in their functioning of ridding the system of used matter, must be able to supply - especially through the rebuilding or replenishing forces as necessary to the system, by the blood stream and by the assimilation of food and properties taken into the system - add that sufficient to rebuild or replenish nerve, muscular tissue, organ tissue, semen tissue, in the faction through which all glands, all of the anatomical forces of body, function. Hence as a debilitation through that of the gradual consumption of conditions that rebuild, it weakens, depletes, the whole system. All organs are involved, then, to that condition wherein all suffer; though not necessarily organically deranged. Here, too, again we find that element of condition entering in wherein there is seen the difference, or differentiation as may be seen in minutia, or the replenishing forces of the body. The desire, that necessary for reproduction within the anatomical forces of the body, is above the ordinary under such condition. That ability to propagate within itself, that of replenishing or adding to its OWN body, is depleted. See? Hence there is seen how that the organisms of the body are as a unit involved one within the other, yet there may be set up within the system such of the forces that tissue, blood, nerve and all replenishing of within self are at such a state as not to be able to add to itself to keep resuscitation within its own functioning.

4. Now, to meet the needs of the conditions of this body: It is well that the changes have come about in environment; for the pressure in that of air, the changes as seen of the forces as bring about the change in diet are well; yet these will not replenish wholly without considerable thought, or considerable action being taken towards giving sufficient into the system, not only of replenishing but of being able to remove that used by the system, in ADDING materials for rebuilding. Hence we will find, plenty of open air well for the body. Not too much physical exertion. Rest - and that taken as an inhalant, to add to the resistance and to act as the cleanser for the system, properties as will be found in this:

5. Put in a twelve (12) ounce glass container with glass stopper, six (6) ounces of pure grain alcohol. To this add:

Eucalpytol (or oil of same)…40 minims, Creosote, Rectified…10 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…20 minims, Canadian Balsam…10 minims, Tolu in solution…100 minims, Heroin…1/4 grain, as prepared hypodermically (that is, for hypodermical use), crushed and put in solution, which will dissolve in same.

6. Use this only as an inhalant, inhaling the gas as formed by shaking solution together, inhaling through the nostrils and through the mouth, at least four to five (4 to 5) times each day, see?

7. Take as much codliver oil as the body can assimilate.

8. Of meats, let the diet be principally that of calf’s liver, chicken, turkey, or any fowl - the liver of same; this not cooked too done, but sufficient that all the life, as animal life, is taken from same, see? Vegetables in the form of all those that grow under the ground; as carrots, salsify, potatoes of all kinds. Do not prepare these, however, ever with grease. Neither eat grease WITH same, save of butterfat.

9. Keep the body free from excessive heat or excessive cold.

10. Occasionally well that the electric vibration either from ultra Violet or the ultra Red Ray, or Infra-Red, be applied along the whole length of the spine.

11. Do that, and we will find in from six to ten (6 to 10) MONTHS, the body would be entirely free from these conditions. May be necessary for change from the present location. This, however, would depend upon whether these may be applied or not. If these were applied here as given, in these places, be well.

12. Lithia water, or a little lithia water, is well for the body occasionally. Not too much, but this - the water - should carry lithia at times.

13. Eggs are very good if taken raw, though if they do not agree with body, Spirits Frumenti may be used with same, provided the alcohol is burned from same before it is given to the body - but that of grain fermentation is well for the body.

14. We are through for the present.

R1. 12/28/27 He wrote: “I have rec’d your rdg. given on Dec. 21st and appreciate it very much. I am returning enclosed the form you sent me to be returned. My mother is with me, here in San Antonio, and we are going to do everything possible to carry out your suggestions. I have been unable to get the prescription filled. Heroin is said to be off the market and not allowed to be prescribed. I then tried to get it filled without the heroin and was told that they could not make any mixture containing alcohol (grain) unless it contained some poison such as Bichloride Mercury - or pure alcohol alone given on only a government blank by an M.D. I do not have a doctor who would prescribe me 6 oz. grain alcohol, hence I am unable to get it filled…

“I would appreciate it very much if you could get this prescription filled for me and give me the desired information, as it is absolutely impossible to get any cooperation from the medical profession here.”

R2. 12/28/27 Form C ret’d: “In so far as I am able to learn, this rdg. fits my condition. My condition is tuberculosis, with extensive lesions confined to the left side. My case diagnosed two years ago was then considered ‘far advanced.’ I intend to carry out every suggestion made as near as possible.”

R3. 1/20/28 EC wrote: “I think the doctor we hope to have associated with our work [Thomas B. House, M.D., D.O.] will be here next month. As soon as he comes, I want to get in touch with you again - then we will take another rdg. (if you like), check up on the progress of the condition and then be able to supply whatever you desire to use yourself.”

R4. 4/25/28 He wrote EC: “I have been intending to write you for the past 2-3 weeks in reference to another rdg… I have conformed as nearly as possible to your instruction and believe that I have made improvement although I could never get the prescription filled as given in your rdg. I moved to El Paso one month ago and intend to stay here permanently. I am very much interested in having you give me another rdg. of my condition at your earliest possible convenience. If in the rdg. any prescription is given, I would appreciate it if you would have the Ass’n M.D. prescribe and have same compounded and sent to me parcel post c.o.d. It is absolutely impossible in this country to get any cooperation from the medical profession. Please advise if there is any additional chg. for the rdg.”

R5. 5/4/28 EC gave him another appointment, saying there would be no chg., and told him of Mrs. Cayce’s t.b. case and also a recent one, Mrs. [1866].

B2. 11/25/27 He wrote: “I rec’d your application blank this a.m. and am returning it immediately with check for $20. I have been down now for two and one-half years and in the past few days have taken a turn for the worse. My family is contemplating on moving me to Texas in about two weeks. Would it be possible for you to give me a reading before that time? I have always been Christian and believe you can give me treatment that will make me well.” [Tuberculosis?]

B3. 11/29/27 His mother wrote: “Do please hurry his date for the reading, as he is not feeling so well and is very anxious to hear from you; he thinks you can do him good, and we are praying you can.”

B5. 12/12/27 Mr. [230]‘s father wired that [230] had left for San Antonio, Tex. on 10th and should be there by now; he would advise address as soon as he knew it. [GD had written that EC was in N.Y., that if he had known the seriousness of the case he would have made the appointment before leaving.]

B6. 12/15/27 Mr. [230] wrote: “I am contemplating spending the winter here. My address is … I am sincerely interested in having a reading at your earliest possible convenience.”

B7. 12/17/27 Father wrote giving [230]‘s address.
