This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of August, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [2335].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2335]. Now, we find there are many conditions as are disordered in the physical forces of the body. Some SEEM, or apparently are, deeper seated than the proper applications, as we would see, would indicate; yet the conditions are such that, taken in time, may be arrested and may be brought back to a nearer normal condition.
-
For some time, through weakness in the physical resistance, conditions of the blood, fumes under which the body has labored, the body has suffered from those conditions as may have been termed just those of CONGESTION in the mucus membranes of the soft tissue in nostril, in face, in head, until the condition became catarrhal in its nature; that is, the congestion assumed such proportions as to become infectious in itself, yet not so highly irritated as to be other than a detriment to the blood supply and to the general circulation. This weakening in the resistance of the physical body, and in the blood supply, has affected also the membranes of the stomach; until it has become highly acid, which AGAIN reduces the vitality of the body in PREVENTING the proper coordination in the assimilations. The natural consequence, the weakness in the lungs - though, while there would be seen those of spots IN lung, these are rather those effects of catarrhal and of the bacilli of the strept nature, than of tubercular, as yet - though the condition makes the body very susceptible to such conditions. Taking the vitality of the system, worrying the body mentally as to the conditions, the distresses produce, too, poor assimilation and digestion, and a general debilitation.
-
Now, in meeting the needs of these, we will find that these conditions will materially aid, and these may be taken by self and yet be found the most effective, and not NECESSARILY - though it would be better were the body where it could be in perfect rest and repose for some time - not necessarily away from work; though do not overtax self.
-
Prepare as this:
-
Take 2 ounces of 85% alcohol. To this add:
Eucalyptol, Oil of…20 minims, Rectified Creosote…5 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…10 minims, Canadian Balsam…5 minims, Tolu in Solution…60 minims.
Then add sufficient distilled water to make 4 ounces. Use same in atomizer to spray nostrils and throat, see, twice - at least - each day, before retiring and before leaving for work of morning.
- Also we would find that it would be well to make a preparation of THIS nature: To 1 ounce of alcohol, add:
Icthyol…1/4 ounce, Oil of Eucalyptol…20 minims, Balsam of Fir…10 minims, Tolu (preferably that gum)…1/2 dram, Rectified Oil of Turp…10 minims.
When this is to be used, stir these well together - for they will separate; or shake them well together, place them in a container - small container - place THIS container in water and let the water boil under same. Do not have same arranged so that the steam interferes with the evaporation of the medicinal properties. Breathe this DEEP into the lungs once each day.
-
Keep the intestinal tract active; not SO active as to be diarrheic in its nature, but keep rather an equal balance between the liver and the kidneys. There will be the natural tendency, with as MUCH of the turp as is to be inhaled, of an activity of the kidneys, but this will act as a diuretic for the membranes of the system in cleansing same, so that there will be the tendency of keeping the system more alkalin in its activity.
-
Eat liver - calves’ liver - not fried - it may be broiled, or parbroiled - at least three times each week. Use eggs, not with the white, stirred well into malt, as one of the meals; with those of the whole wheat glutens, or whole wheat flour, whole wheat muffins or cakes. These also should be a portion of diet. Fish may be taken in moderation, as may also any of those properties that will furnish both iodine and phosphorus for the system. Keep the activities as near normal as possible. Also we will find, that at least TWICE a week, were beef tripe or hog tripe taken as a diet, this will be of real value in blood building, but DO NOT fry same. Milk, but only milk that is warm with animal heat should be taken; not that that is chilled, or that has set in ANY container which has been opened or exposed to where bacilli - either of the milk itself or outside - may have been active with same.
-
These, as we find, will bring bettered conditions for this body, [2335]. We are through.

R1. 8/14/30 EC’s letter to [2335]:
Mr. [2335] …, Alabama
Dear Mr. [2335]:-
Just a little note to enclose the information gotten in the reading yesterday. I don’t have to explain any of this to you, I am sure. You will know how to check it up with yourself, and what to do with it.
[2335], how are you situated down there now as to your job? It might be possible, if you would care for a change, for the thing to be worked out with a drug store here [Benstock Drug Company], and that would later be in connection with the manufacturing end here. What would you think of it? What sort of salary would you have to have? Living conditions here may be somewhat different from there, but you can get a very nice place for fifty or seventy-five - that is, an apartment or a small house.
Let me hear from you. Certainly hope that you are feeling a whole lot better.
Sincerely, [EC:GD]
R2. 8/21/30 [2335]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letter and the reading received a few days ago both of which I appreciate. Will begin using both preparations tomorrow, I think, am waiting for one ingredient that I had to order. I happened to be out of it and had to order. Have had a right bad spell for the last few days but have managed to keep working. Beside my stomach, my heart has troubled me a good deal. In regard to the change you mention, I would be very glad to make it, if I could get rid of my home here which is about half paid for, without making too big a sacrifice. Property values have decreased here considerably during the last three years. I bought this place about four years ago. Again I want to tell you that I appreciate what you have done and the interest you have shown in me and I hope that I will be in a position some day to show it in a material way.
You ask what salary I would be willing to make the change for in case it can be worked out? I feel that two hundred twenty five per month would be about the right figures. I am going to let you hear from me after I have used the two prescriptions you suggest for a while and I feel that they are going to help me.
With kindest regards to you and your family, I am
Yours sincerely, [2335]
R3. 9/15/30 [2335]‘s reply to Questionnaire:
Selma, Ala.
Miss Gladys Davis c/o Cayce Hospital Va. Beach, Va.
Dear Miss Davis:
Your letter in reference to information concerning my physical condition received Saturday afternoon, while in bed; being sent up to me from the store where I worked. I had to give up my work, Saturday evening Aug. 6th, my nerves and body being in such a weakened state that I was not able to go on with my work. I had about made up my mind that I must stop and take a rest when one of the doctors here called me by his office and tole me I MUST quit work for a while. He said he would suggest a ten day rest in bed and then rest for a while after getting up. He said my heart was affected as well as my nerves, due to long working hours and working under a strain. So I felt that this was the first step to getting better - Mr. Cayce having suggested rest and quiet too.
Now coming back to your letter of inquiry, I must say I have not carried out Mr. Cayce’s suggestion FULLY, - not as fully and implicitly as I now am trying. At first, being tired, nervous and worn out, I was not as faithful in using the spray and inhalant as I should have been. Then too, I have not been able to get all of the articles of diet yet, as indicated. I really do feel today, my ninth day of rest, that I have been benefitted by the spray, inhalant and the REST which was also suggested by Mr. Cayce.
As soon as I can, again, I am going to make another bottle of spray which I believe will be an improvement over my first preparation. Have been thinking for several days, before receiving your letter, I’d write Mr. Cayce. Please express my appreciation to him for the interest he has shown in me. With best wishes to all of you, I am
Sincerely, [2335]
R4. 9/17/30 EC’s letter to [2335]:
Mr. [2335] …, Alabama
Dear [2335]:
I am hoping that by this time you have gotten everything prepared and that you are beginning to see some results from the use of the properties suggested. I believe you will find, that if you are consistent with your diet and with the taking of the properties suggested, you will begin to see almost immediate results. I’m hoping so, anyway.
The druggist here - whom I had reference to when I asked you about coming to Virginia Beach - asked for your address, as I had spoken to him about you. No doubt you have received a letter from him. I realize that it puts you in rather a precarious condition, in considering such a move when you have property that you are getting paid for, but it MIGHT be worth considering. I would look at it, however, from every angle, but IF you could RENT the property for something near the payments, no reason why you shouldn’t be able to turn it to good account - for while real estate is low, I’m sure in Selma as most everywhere else, unless it is at a place like this - but if we are able to work the proposition out here, there will certainly be a real opportunity for man who handles the prescriptions, or becomes general manager of this store. Whether this is going to work out just as we would like or not, of course may be a question. It is something, too - or will be - of manufacturing interest, and will OFFER the man who handles same a wonderful opportunity to grow with the undertaking - which, if it develops, will have sufficient financial backing to practically insure the success of the project. Think it over seriously before you make a decision, and if there are any questions you want to ask, don’t hesitate to ask me.
Mr. [5473] seems to be getting along VERY nicely. He HAS been in a pretty bad shape, and has allowed himself to get very much run down before he began to do anything towards recuperation; so it is going to require some time and close attention for him to be started back properly. I feel very hopeful, if he does not get too impatient.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, [EC:GD]
R5. 11/4/30 Mrs. [310]‘s letter: “[2335] is not able to be at work. Doctor says his trouble is in muscles of heart and his diagnosis in many ways coincides with the reading. [2335] is trying with implicit confidence to carry out the reading to the best of his ability, mentioned having written you in regard to some features which he has failed to get - I believe it was part of some nourishment suggestion. Then, too, he said several weeks ago he wrote Mr. Benstock [Samuel J. Benstock] in reply to letter from him and never heard anything further. Is most anxious to have some income if possible and especially while there.”
R6. 5/31 and 6/31 Cousin [4631]‘s correspondence refers to [2335]‘s advice for her as a druggist.
R7. 8/17/40 [2335]‘s letter to HLC:
Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letter and the case report blank received some days ago. Please pardon my delay. The reading I had was misplaced or destroyed several years ago, so I shall ask you to send a copy, that I may answer a little more intelligently. I am recovering now from a long spell of sickness during the winter and spring months. I was in bed three months and up and down for five months. I had a heart attack last October and was in a generally run down condition from the long confining of the drug business. I had been working fourteen hours a day for five years, with only three days off during the entire five years. I have had to sell my little business as I realize now, that I can not go back to those hours again.
I am beginning to feel strong and well enough now to begin doing something if I can find something that I can do without having night and Sunday work. I need something to do for two reasons, to occupy my mind and time and to finance our living expenses.
Upon receipt of the copy of the reading, I shall answer to the best of my ability the questions requested. Give my regards to your father.
Sincerely, [2335]

INDIVIDUAL CASE REPORT
Date of Reading 8/13/40 Case No. 2335-1
PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS CAREFULLY (1) In your opinion did the analysis of the Reading cover the condition? Yes, so far was I am able to judge.
(2) Give symptoms of condition described correctly? Nervousness, fatigue, abnormal amount of stomach gas at times, accompanied by belching, and also intestinal gas. These were accompanied or followed by racing heart and missing heart beat. Also uncomfortable feeling on left side under left lowest rib and along descending path of colon.
(3) What was the physician’s analysis of this condition? As I remember it now a congenital heart born that way, with a leak in it. He said I had no organic disease though.
(4) Have the suggestions given in the Reading been followed exactly as outlined? No, but as nearly as I was able to understand them and carry them out.
(5) For how long? Several months
(6) Describe the extent to which improvements have resulted? I think my catarrhal condition was better and possibly my general condition during the greater part of the last ten years. Had Brills fever and influenza during year of 1932, and another illness in 1934.
(7) Comment. In the preparation of the spray, the last item in the formula, “Solution Tulu (Tolu)” was not clear to me. What strength solution did he mean, and was it an alcoholic solution and how prepared? Please give mode of preparation, strength, etc., of solution Tolu (“Solution Tulu”).
What form was the malt to be taken in and where obtained? The egg yolks, to be stirred into the malt, were they to be raw or cooked if so how? These were some of the things not clear in my mind.
My last illness which began last October, 1939 kept me in bed practically all of the time until April 1940. I am better but still not in real good health.

R9. 8/30/40 HLC’s letter to [2335]:
Dear Mr. [2335]:
Thank you for the report blank. You can secure from Sharp and Dohme the Soluble Tolu, which is used in that form and does not need to be made up by you.
With reference to the malt, - this probably means the raw egg yolk stirred in malted milk.
I hope you will advise us if at any time you feel we may be of assistance to you.
Also I trust you gave careful consideration to our booklet on the Expansion Program.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce, Manager [HLC:GD]

B2. 7/4/30 [2335]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
You will be surprised to hear from me, I imagine, but I am coming to you with a request I am reluctant to make. If not in conflict with your rules and regulations, I want to get you to give me a reading on my body with out compensation at this time. I do not know your fee and it would do me no good to, at this time, for I am financially hard pressed. I have just had a salary cut of twenty five dollars per month which makes it harder for me to meet my obligations. This power you have has always been of interest to me and this is why I am coming to you because I want to know my physical condition. I think I have had this condition for some time and I think it is gradually growing worse. I do not feel that I am excited about my condition, and do not think I will be if you should find it very serious, because I realize I have to go sometime, but I feel that it will be satisfaction of mind to know my condition whatever it be. I am still working and feel that it is imperative that I do as long as I can though I feel that rest would do me as much good as most anything I could do. As I have said at the beginning, I am reluctant to make a request like this when I am not ready to compensate you. I want to compensate you but I cannot say when I can do it.
If it is not satisfactory for you to handle it that way I want you to know that I realize I have no right to feel hurt with you. I do not think the Xray and other tests and examinations I have had revealed my trouble or condition as I would like to know it. So this is why I am coming to you, I want to know as it is if the power you have can give it to me. I am at the store 100 Broad St. during the day except at dinner and supper hours and at my home 107 Lamar Ave. at nights.
Hoping to hear from you, I am
Yours sincerely, [2335]
My Hours are as follows: 8 A.M. to 6: P.M. One day - 8 A.M. to 10:P.M. the Next - Dinner Hour 1 to 2 P.M.; Supper Hour 5 to 6 P.M. the nights I work which is every other night.
