GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions; also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2389].
-
Now as we find, there is rather the combination of disturbances that prevent the better normal physical functioning. This has been rather a growing condition, altered or changed at times, yet the constant shifting about of disorders has not done other than bring temporary relief by the changes in relationships to the rather specific disturbance which is has been the cause of the disorders.
-
The body then, as we find, is never really ill, yet constantly in a state of uneasiness and dis-ease, rather than disease.
-
First we find, in some time back - some fifteen years ago - there were those subluxations in the area between the shoulders; the upper dorsal and portions of the cervical.
-
These, in the manner that they caused a slowing of circulation through portions of the head, neck and throat, have affected the organs of the sensory system, - also the nasal passages. In part these have been aided, and this caused a condition as of a catarrhal nature. Later, with the changes, there were those conditions which arose that had the appearance partially of a disturbance through the stomach, or the digestive system. These with or from the milk, and other changes in the diet, have been aided.
-
Again we find the same arising, causing a condition in the circulation as related to heart, liver and kidneys.
-
Then a part of the disturbance is also from the effect left upon the organs that have been from time to time disturbed.
-
From the very nature and the long standing of these disturbances, and the conditions existing in the cerebro-spinal area, combined with the effect produced through the circulatory forces and pressures upon the nerve systems to the functioning of organs as related especially to those as indicated, - as well as the sensory forces - the hearing, the sight, and the manner of feeling; these as we find would be the applications:
-
Under a good hydrotherapist we would apply first the Baths to stimulate the circulation. These would be had about twice a week, using the dry heat followed with fume baths - preferably alternating the fumes, one time using the Witchhazel, the next time the Atomidine; so as to stimulate the superficial circulation through the activity of these fumes as they settle upon the body; not only to coordinate the activities of the superficial circulation but the glandular forces also. Use about two teaspoonsful of the properties in a pint of water, this boiled so that the fumes settle upon the body. Have the treatments twice a week, once with the Witchhazel, next with the Atomidine.
-
These would be followed each time by a general massage. Then after the third or fourth massage, begin making CORRECTIONS in the 3rd and 4th treatment in the dorsal AND the cervical areas. Make specific corrections in the 3rd, 4th and 5th dorsal, the 3rd and 4th cervical.
-
Then after these general treatments and rubdowns for at least six to eight treatments, begin with the Short Wave Electro-Treatment; not the sinusoidal, not other than the Short Wave, - to heat the internal forces - if we would relieve the SOURCES of the disturbances to the organs and to the system in general, as produced by the congestion from this disturbance which has been indicated as a part of, or the beginning of, the sources of disturbance. THESE we would then take for at least six to ten such treatments. But the hydrotherapy, INCLUDING the colonics, should be given before each of the short wave electrical treatments is given.
-
WE would do these under the supervision of Reilly.
-
As to the length of the Short Wave treatment, - this should be judged by the one making the administrations, according to the effect produced upon the heart circulation, you see; short at first, and then gradually increased. Do not give these, though, until the first course of hydrotherapy treatments have been given as outlined. These would not even be begun, you see, until the first six to eight general hydrotherapy treatments have been given.
-
As to the diet, - keep away from white breads, pastries, red or rare meats, or too many vegetables of the tuberous nature.
No fried foods of any kind. Also leave off potatoes, unless it is soup made chiefly from the potato peels rather than from the pulp itself; for the salts from the potato peels would be very well for the body.
-
Have plenty of all kinds of fruits; citrus fruits, - oranges, lemons, limes, grape fruit, pineapple - all of these should form a part of the diet some time during each day; not all of them at once, to be sure, but alternate them. Do not prepare them in the same way each day.
-
Figs, raisins, olives, dates, - all of these should be a part of the diet from time to time.
-
Raw vegetables should be a part of some meal during each day.
-
Meats, if taken, should consist principally of fish, fowl or lamb, - and these never fried.
-
Do these, and we will bring better conditions for this body, [2389].
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am very sorry that I did not get to see you when you were in New York. As I explained on the telephone, it is impossible for me to go any great distance. I am pretty much confined to a wheelchair. At the time I was speaking to you, you said that you would send your son to Washington Square to see me on a Tuesday afternoon. Your son called me on the telephone on that Tuesday at about noon and explained that he could not be there at three o’clock but that he would come some time between four-thirty and five o’clock. I waited for him in vain and have received no explanation as to why he did not come. To say the least, I was rather disappointed. And it seems to me that it would have been only the part of common courtesy for him to call me on the telephone at least to explain why he did not come to see me.
I was very favorably impressed by the psychic reading which you gave me on October 31 in spite of the fact that there were various serious things which seemed quite obviously my chief difficulties at the time which you overloooked in your reading. I even tried to carry out your suggestions to see Mr. Reilly. He made arrangements to have me taken to his place. As soon as I got there he himself saw that it would be impossible for me to take the treatments which you had suggested. In the meantime I have a man coming to my room to give me treatments. He is a combination of a German naturopath, physio-therapist with his early training in Germany where he received a degree, and American trained osteopath and chiropractor.
You desired a history of my case to the time of obtaining the reading. I shall give it very briefly, leaving out many, many details. As you said in your reading my trouble has been of long standing and you correctly said of about 15 years. That statement impressed me very much. About 15 years ago I first had difficulty in walking. After walking a mile or so, my right leg seemed to become weak and I rather dragged it. My left leg and the rest of my body were as good as ever for many years after that. I thought at the time that my trouble was entirely with my feet and for a couple of years went to orthopedic experts. Two years later, in 1927, I went to an orthopedic expert in Orange, New Jersey who told me there was nothing wrong with my feet and sent me to a neurologist. Since that time I have been going to neurologists both abroad and in America, and they all agreed that I had some sort of a lesion in the spinal column although they did not agree on an exact diagnosis. The trouble has become so bad now, as said before, that I cannot walk any great distance than from one room to another with the aid of crutches. During those years I had not an ache or a pain - only that inability to walk, specifically to lift my right leg. Two years ago, however, a new condition developed which was accompanied by the severest of pain. At first it was what the doctors called tic douloureux, a neurologic affection of the facial nerve. After a month of using codeine and morphine to kill the pain, I was relieved of the most excruciating pain by an injection in the lower jaw. Since that time I still have the darting pains in my face but not so severe. Another severe condition called intercostal neuralgia developed which has also left me now but at present my whole body is full of neuralgia. That is my history in brief.
Just to pick out a few things in your reading which did not seem to me to have been correct: I have absolutely no difficulty with the senses you refer to, especially not of the sense of hearing or sight. I can hear and see as well as when I was young - and never have had any trouble there. I wonder, too, what you mean when you say that these conditions have been relieved by the “milk” and other changes in the diet. I never have taken any milk diet of any sort.
In a conversation with you or your son I might have mentioned various other things but the above mentioned are the most important. I should be pleased to hear from you again.
Very sincerely yours, [2389]
R2. 12/11/40 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2389]:
Dear Mr. [2389]:-
Have yours of the 6th - am very much disturbed about how things happened, in the young man not seeing you when he had made the engagement to do so. Will let him make his own excuse - tho personally it seems like pure neglect of duty to me, but he will write you. Should have myself now I know - but is so hard for me to try and get out when have two readings each day and the people to talk to at each period, and felt that Hugh Lynn could help by seeing and talking with you - now he didn’t and there we are.
Wish to thank you, Mr. [2389] for your report, and am most desirous of being of help. May I suggest this - that we take another reading - a check up on what was given and why
- also you make a list of questions this time regards the conditions you know, and let’s see if there won’t be offered something that will really help. This, of course, not to be of any expense to you, but the information trying to help - a most unpleasant situation to me, for feel it is pure neglect of duty and obligation - and not in keeping with policy of the work at all. Have never had such a thing to happen before, and hope will never have again. Am making the period for Tuesday morning the 17th 10.30 to 11.30 - just give me the address you will be at that hour and be sure and make the questions, won’t you? And don’t be afraid of asking too many. Do hope we may be of the means of being of real help.
Thanking you and with sincere regards
Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce:
I feel very thankful to you for your good letter of December 11 and your generous offer. I feel more strongly than ever that it would have been a great pleasure indeed to have met you when you were in New York.
On Tuesday morning, December 17, I shall be in my study in our apartment on the fifth floor at … at the appointed hour from 10.30 to 11.30 A.M. I should like to ask the following questions:
Is there a lesion, that is a morbid change, in my spinal column, which is the basis of all my trouble, as the neurologists maintain?
Or perhaps a diseased condition in the spinal cord itself, possibly the result of degeneration?
Why has the right leg always been so much weaker than the left?
Will I ever be able to lift the right leg again sufficiently well to be relieved of my crutches?
Why can I not sit comfortably? It feels as if I were sitting on a web of nerves just underneath the skin.
What causes the pain in my feet and legs, especially around the knee, when I stand or walk?
What causes my right leg to jerk (the knee and foot) at night so that I have to get up about every hour to quiet the right leg by sitting in my chair?
Is the treatment I have been receiving from Mr. Graf [Ph.T.] for about two weeks going to to help me permanently?
It has definitely helped the neuralgic condition on the right side of my face. So far his treatment has consisted chiefly of having me drink a quart of various vegetable juices and a quart of fruit juices daily, no meat and plenty of vegetables for the next four or five weeks, and a certain type of massage twice weekly, etc.
Why have I lost strength in my fingers, likewise my toes?
What has caused my left hand to become numb?
What did you mean in your first reading by the disturbance in my hearing and seeing? It seems to me that my hearing and seeing are as good as ever.
By the way it might interest you to know that Mr. Graf who is treating me now with a combination of German naturopathy and massage is a Rosicrucian and uses some of their mystic psychological methods.
I am sure that you will be able to help me.
With repeated thanks and very cordial greetings, I am
Very sincerely yours, [2389]
