This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of February, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [2449], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [2419].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘36 - yes, a change - ‘33 - other change for the openings - ‘21 - the real change - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [2449].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them, much in the nature of signs and symbols appears to have been such an outstanding experience of the entity in one sojourn as to overshadow the others; and yet that does not appear as the life seal of the entity.

5. But we choose these from the records with the desire and purpose that this may be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling it to find itself in the present, as to its relationships to Creative Forces, and the manner or channel through which application may be made in order to fulfil the purposes for which the entity entered this sojourn.

6. Know in self that there are immutable laws, and that as the universe visioned about self is directed by laws set in motion from the beginning, so is man’s relationship to same under the law. Hence man’s application of such relationships comes under that of guidance from or through same, interpreted in and by man’s choice of his ideals under any or all circumstance.

7. Also the position or condition under which an entity finds self in the present is that most needed for the entity’s awareness at that given period, for the greater awakening AND use of the developments at this time.

8. In the analysis here given, then, the faults would be minimized, and the virtues given such impetus as to become more magnified in the entity’s experience.

9. There are two directions chosen, from which impulses arise; and yet these - from the application of the entity’s abilities in the material experiences - become a shadow or a beam of one another.

10. Hence the astrological influences, or the entity’s sojourn in the astrological environs during those interims between material or earthly manifestations. There have been virtues and faults accredited to those spheres of consciousness to which an entity may attain in such interims. These are not merely names, but are as influences in the experience of the entity at any given period of manifestation, - whether in the physical or earthly realm, or in other consciousnesses. They are not existent merely because of the position of the planets at birth, then, or of any astrological activity, but rather because of a consciousness in those environs.

11. Thus, as in the material manifestation, each environ, each entity with which a given entity may come in contact, either becomes a better channel or less confident of self because of such a contact or experience.

12. Then we find this, as might be said, as a composite of latent and manifested talents or characteristics as produce abilities for mental activity of the entity in this experience:

13. The entity finds body, mind and soul as the three phases of consciousness in materiality, or in earth expression. They each have their attributes, yet in the awareness of an entity as to the Creative Forces are expressed in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Hence MIND is EVER the builder.

14. Then, these are the influences:

15. The entity is one with high mental abilities, with a tend to remember details in a very minute way or manner as respecting happenings, things or circumstance, and yet one given to easily forget individual names or faces even, at times.

16. One with the abilities to give an expression or an account verbally of happenings; and thus would be an excellent historian, or lecturer, or writer, for any group, cult, cism, denomination, school or the like. Thus the entity is a natural organizer of activities, if there is the impetus from the spiritual, mental AND physical realms.

17. The entity will the more oft find it hard to coordinate the PURPOSES of a truth AND the material happenings. This at times has brought and will bring confusion in the experience of the entity.

18. One inclined at times to be rather critical of others. This should be more and more eliminated from the expressions, because of the very nature of the activities. For, as ye condemn, so ARE ye condemned. As ye forgive, so may ye be forgiven. As ye do unto the least of thy brethren, so ye do unto thy Maker. These as laws, as truths, are unfailing. And because He may oft appear slow in meting out the results of such activity does not alter or change the law, save as may be understood in the law of forgiveness. Yet any error, or a fault, or a failure, MUST be met! For as given, though the heavens, the earth may pass away, His word will NOT pass away! His word, then, is the way, the truth, the light. And each entity, each soul - AS HIMSELF - must pay to the last jot or tittle!

19. Yes, forgiveness and karma may at times appear to be extremes; and yet know that ONLY in Him - the Christ - do extremes meet. But that each soul may know, and not lose the way, these ARE experiences - in the meeting of such - as may be borne or understood, or even comprehended, in and with His presence, His purpose, His love.

20. Astrologically, then, - we find the aspects of Mercury, Venus, Neptune and Saturn finding expressions in the material activity.

21. From Mercury we find the high mental abilities.

22. In Venus we find the suave individual, with the tenderness, the temperament and the abilities to be SINCERE; and yet oft more sincere to others than to self. Reverse this. For, as indicated, they that to themselves are false may never be really sincere to others. They that are true to themselves will never be false to others.

23. We find in Neptune the abilities in expression of the mysteries, and the mental forces as expressed in the Mercurian influences with same; also those things having to do with places near to water.

24. However, with those influences of Saturn so oft entering, we find that even though there are the abilities for a long mental mind, there is the forgetfulness of names or faces. Also from Saturn, as combined with urges from material sojourns - as will be seen, there are the tendencies for sudden and unexpected changes, - as if directed in such change by unseen, unexpected sources.

25. Know that He, thy Ideal, hath NEED of thee! Thus the greater injunction would be to quit thyself as one who may be worthy to be entrusted with the directing of thy fellow men, in those things as bring harmony and peace in the material world, assurance AND peace in the spiritual realm; that may bring safety in the activity with others, as may be prompted from thy interpretation - in word, and more in deed - of the law of truth in dealing with thy fellow men.

26. As to the appearances in the earth, - all may not be given in the present, but these are chosen that there may be seen or felt those experiences, or trends that have brought, do bring, the material activities in the present:

27. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity; during those periods following the reconstruction after the American Revolution.

28. The entity then was a teacher, an instructor, first in the schools and later as a teacher, a writer of the history of the land; in the name then Goodrich.

29. In the experience the entity gained, though in the material things there was the lack of the forethought to make or maintain the hold upon the results of the efforts in material things, and there was never the equaling of that needed in relationships with others. And the entity was condemned by others for such lack of forethought. Yet, little is brought into the material experience, - little may be taken away, save as the assurance of peace or harmony in relationships to thy fellow man.

30. Before that the entity was active in the earth during the early days of the church, when the activities of Constantine brought purposeful desires on the part of individuals to supply, hunt out, find, those records as made by the early disciples of the Master.

31. The entity was then as one given, or ordered, to produce that as had been proclaimed by the entity in its gatherings with others in the Macedonian land, and in portions of Palestine.

32. Then in the name Contii, the entity lost and gained, lost and gained; that is, there were periods when the activities were for self-glorification, self-indulgences. And yet much of that attempted, and gathered by the entity as records through the experience, has been and is a part of those things which have brought and do bring hope to the minds and experiences of many through this day.

33. Hence we find the entity in the present is in that position where many, many may be benefited; but it must be done by the entity in not a desire for self-glorifying in any sense, nor of that justifying in the material sense for the expressions in same, but rather to the glory of truth that may indeed point the way to the fellow man; in knowing, experiencing more and more his relationship to the Creative Forces, or God, as may be expressed or manifested in his daily associations with the fellow man.

34. From that experience, then, we find in the present sojourn there may well be a period of devoting the entity’s abilities to the activities as an instructor, teacher or edifier in that as might be called FRATERNAL insurance; that bears the stamp of approval in the deeper sense of self, yet brings a surety or assurance in the material things when there ARE activities that bring about disturbances or discords in the family experience.

35. Before that the entity was in the Persian or Arabian land, in the “city in the hills and the plains.”

36. There the entity was among the Grecians who were sent for the interpreting or understanding of the activities in that “city in the hills and the plains.”

37. The entity became that active force that prompted the tempting of the followers of Uhjltd in that experience, and thus brought to himself a disturbing influence - as may be experienced even in this sojourn. For, the undermining manner in which such was presented through the gatherings of the many ladies or girls was the littleness that eventually brought disturbing forces to the entity itself.

38. Then in the name Ecclestes, the entity lost, the entity gained. For, coming under those influences as brought about the activities when physical disturbances arose to such a degree in the experience of the entity, and by and through that accident which brought a breaking of the body-forces to such measures as to become helpless, - the HEALINGS as wrought CHANGED the entity in its approach to the unseen; and yet very practical and real experiences through that sojourn.

39. In the present, from that sojourn then, let the entity analyze self to such an extent as to know what is thy ideal, - mentally, spiritually, materially, - and Who is the author of those tenets that lead the entity to accept such AS ideals.

40. And in the same study to show thyself approved unto God; keeping self unspotted from condemnation of others; keeping the way ever FRESH in GROWTH, in knowledge, in wisdom. For, wisdom is that each should seek. Knowledge may become a stumblingstone, but wisdom is the pathway that may lead to the walks with Him.

41. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when the recall of the Priest brought about those changes that eventually made for the uniting of purposes of the leaders of the various groups.

42. It was during the reconstruction period; and those who had caused the rebellions were under the direction of the entity, through the judgments of the Priest, in bringing about the awareness of the things to be done by such to show their sorrow, or their willingness to bring the Priest’s law into full acceptance.

43. Disputes arose over those judgments passed by the Priest AND the desires of the entity in the execution of the things given. Yet eventually, with the understandings as came by observation and practice in and through the Temples of Sacrifice, as well as the Temple Beautiful, harmony was restored again with the entity AND the Priest.

44. The entity was not as one of the priests, but rather as one that meted out the teachings of the Priest, - whether in executing judgments or in bringing promotions or demotions to those as they were given their orders through the various activities in the land.

45. From same in the present there are those abilities as the organizer, the teacher, the dispenser of truths, - yea, as a writer, - all of these will be a part of the experience of the entity.

46. The name then was Ar-El-Kon.

47. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, - these are limited only by that desire to stand one with Him. Know that questions of all natures are answered only in thy determination to see that ideal of self set in its proper relationships to things about self.

48. Know, as the choice is made, that it must be only “The Way.” For, as given, he that climbs up some other way is as a thief and a robber.

49. We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. [2449]:

Sorry to have been delayed in getting this information for you, but am in hopes you find it of interest, and will study it sufficiently to get the read [real] meaning of same, then will be able to apply the suggestions for your best development here and now. As usual thing have found individuals get more from such readings, do they read the data over, lay a side and don’t look at it for a day or more than read very carefully several times, usually then they get the meaning better. Wish might discuss this with you at some length, think there is much to be gained from what have been told of this particular reading.

First time you are in N.Y. would like for you to take it with you and discuss it with my friend Mr. David E. Kahn, he is at 206 Lexington Ave. in the Furniture building. If when you go you will phone up that you wish to discuss a reading with him - am sure you will get in alright. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Assn. Trustees.

Am sure you will find him an interesting body to talk with. Know can I be of help in your getting the most out of your reading - will be glad to try and do so.

Dear Mr. Cayce =

Please forgive me for not writing you long ago in answer to your letter of Feb. 10th and in acknowledgement of the receipt of the Life reading. My appreciation of all you have done must not be judged by the time it has taken me to write you and thank you for all you have done.

I have a job at the present time that takes all of my time. I get up at 6:30 every morning and by the time I finish the day’s work and get rid of the multitude of details it is eleven and sometimes twelve o’clock before I get to bed. It wouldn’t be so bad either if I was earning as much money as the work is worth but the pay is very small and I am hoping to shift to other work in the very near future. I am telling you all this only to explain why I haven’t written you long before this. I just couldn’t find the time to sit down and do the writing. I am able to do it today because the snow storm up here penned me up in the house over this weekend.

When the Life reading first came I read it over very hurriedly and frankly it did not make a very favorable impression on me. However, since then I have read it carefully and thoughtfully and now I see that there is much more to it than that that first hits the eye. The reading really contains much of value and really reaches back into the past for quite some time. The Reading in connection with the Ra-Ta Story of the Egyptian period adds much more significance with the whole matter. The reading interests me particularly because it seems to explain many things to me. First of all I have no desire at all to make money for money’s sake. It is only the dire need of money to provide and take care of my family that forces me to work for money. Then it also explains my deep interest in the needs of humanity and my desire to do something of value to help people to get back to their God and the teachings of their Father. I see so many people running around aimlessly with no anchor to tie to and no spiritual ties and my heart so wants me to help them and try to show them the Truth, the Way & the Light, that most of the time I am most unhappy because of my apparently inability to help do the work I know I came here to help do and the chief reason why I am not doing it seems to be chiefly due to my continually be driven in the opposite direction by the ever present and urgent need of money for the family. Any how I am most thankful and grateful to you for the reading and it seems to me to present myself to me more clearly just as I see myself. Maybe it will yet be the means of helping me back into the channel of activity I so much love and want to be in.

The first time I am in New York City I’ll take it to Mr. Kahn as you suggest and discuss it with him. Again thanking you for all your kindness to me and with the Master’s richest blessings on you, I remain,

Dear Mr. [2449]:

Thank you for yours of the 9th - can understand very well, how such working hours can keep one from doing many of the things they would like to do. Have thought of you many times, and was speaking with some one about you last evening, whom you possibly remember, Mr. and Mrs. Parry [Edgar J. Parry], he taught music at Asheville with Mr. Pelley [Wm. Dudley Pelley], we were having an open meeting and they were there.

Thank you for your comment on the reading - your experience, Mr. [2449] is practically the experience of every one with that type of reading.

Many years ago, I knew the advertising man of the … Company, [[2229]?] and had and do have a very fine opinion of his judgement of people and things. He had readings for each member of his family, physical, the Life reading was then just a new experience for us, in fact think had only given three or four out side my immediate family. But he wrote for such a reading, just after had left Dayton, gave it and asked him to be very critical, for did not know what such information might be worth. Upon receipt of same he wrote me at once, saying I think the physical are very good, we have all had excellent results in the use of the suggestions given my family in such, but this - well - it seems to be just a lot of words. I wrote him, thanked him for his letter, asking him however to reread the reading, then if he still felt the same way to please burn. About two months after he wrote - well, think should tell you I haven’t burned that reading as yet and am sure never will - I didn’t wish to see myself in that light, but it is me - it isn’t any one else, and am sure it has done and will do me more good than any piece of paper I ever possessed in my life. And so it has gone through the years - today received a letter from an Ad man in Pittsburgh, thanking me for what a Life reading had done for his wife, and asking for one for himself.

Just am in hope you find yours of as much help as many another one tells me theirs have proven to them - they say each time they read them something new shows up, they had not seen before.

Do hope circumstances will be such that you may be in the type of work you love and am sure you can do best in.

Dear Mr. Cayce =

Yesterday, while in New York City, and having a chat with my old friend [2419], your name came up together with a little information from Lee as to the kind of work you are doing. Lee said you had an organization but he was unable to give me the name of same or the details thereof, [2419] thought if I got in touch with you, you might be able to help me solve my great problem of life, I am, therefore, writing you at this time, to ask you if there is anything you can do to help me find my proper place in the scheme of things.

I not knowing how you work do not, therefore, know just how much you need to know about me from myself. I am, under the circumstances, telling you something about myself, and if I give you information you do not need to know you can forget it.

With this letter I am enclosing you herewith a folder, prepared by myself and showing the kind of commercial work I can do based on what I have done. This folder will give a pretty complete history of myself. To that I should like to add a couple things that I think you should know and that are not in the folder.

The first thing I want you to know is that from July 1933 to April 1934 I was very active with William Dudley Pelley, Chief of the Silver Shirts, a very anti-Jewish organization. I went there to make an audit of Pelley’s books, and remained there as his Treasurer and the only organizer he ever had. After being there that long I felt he was working in the wrong direction and at the same time a book “Unveiled Mysteries” by G. W. Ballard - under the pen name of Godfrey Rae King was put into my hands. This book seemed to contain many beautiful truths and appeared to be what humanity was looking for. Consequently I quit Pelley in June 1934 and in Oct. I went with the Ballards as their manager and organizer and started them on their way with their “I AM” teaching. I took them to Phila., New York & Boston, back to Phila. and New York and then to Washington. In Jan. 1935, after the class at Washington finished, I left for Chicago on business for the Ballards. I got no further than the outskirts of Baltimore, when in crossing the street I was hit by an automobile, thrown into the air & then run over. I was so mangled and battered up that the police said there was only enough left to bury. My good wife held that there was still life in me and that Jesus Christ had never failed her up to now and that he wouldn’t now. To make a long story short, I was taken to the hospital with blood running out of my eyes, nose, mouth, ears & leg. My left leg was broken completely, all the bones sticking out of my pant leg, my skull was fractured, and I was generally smashed up, when they restored me to some semblance of life, I was blind, deaf, and crazy. Despite all these things I was back home from the hospital at the end of 17 days and was carrying on correspondence all over the country. However, I did not rejoin the Ballards in their “I AM” teachings. As I felt I was again on the wrong track, and my accident came to me to stop me as Paul was stopped in his persecuting of the Christians. However, I have felt that my recovery and saving from death at that time was a divine healing through divine guidance. I have felt that I had came here to do some spiritual work and was saved for it, but try hard as I will I cannot find my proper place in God’s work. I cannot get any kind of commercial work that will support my family. All I can get is selling something on a commission basis. I don’t want to be a salesman, I have been an executive most of my life. I am a natural born organizer. I am no longer interested in Commercial activity except to the the degree that I might draw sufficient supply for my family and their needs. I am, above all, interested in educational work - particularly spiritual education. I see the very great need of the proper kind of spiritual education for the youth of today but I can find no way of getting into the kind of work I want to do. I want two things - proper supply for my family and the right or privilege of properly serving mankind. Am I right or wrong and how am I to get into the right work in the right way and at the right place. As you may know, the Ballards have seemingly perverted their “I AM Teachings” into a vicious religious racket and are now being tried for criminal charges by the Federal government. I have just returned from California where I was a witness for the government. Please let me hear from you & tell me what I need to do to get on the right track.

Thank you for yours of the 28th. Would that it were practical to sit down and have a good long talk with you

• have sent you data under separate cover - regard the life reading. Hope you may find this of interest, and would like very much to see what a Life reading would say about you. It is the same type of reading that Mr. [2419] had, and if he would not mind - would be a very good way for you to judge from the other data sent - just what a life reading
• through these channels is like.

However, to be sure no two of these are like at all except in a general way. Thank you for all the data sent me, which am returning this mail - also regards your experience with others. Of course, am very well acquainted with the work of each of these men - many members of our Groups have been members of one or the other or both of these other groups

• at one time or another. While have met these gentlemen
• can’t say I know them at all, or that I know much of their source of information or the basic purpose of their teachings. You have certainly had experience - while oft times a dear teacher - certainly indicates to me you have been preserved for some definite work. Your experience in the Hospital alone - am sure has shown you that your wife must be a most wonderful person. Faith certainly removes mountains, - and while many individuals have and do obtain much from many sources in diverse ways - as for myself - like your wife - Jesus Christ has never failed me - and I seek no other source of help. And know of myself can do nothing, and only as HIS spirit may work in and through me, may help come to others. OTHERS then is my way of judgement as to what information may be worth - as may come through me - always the question - What does it bring into the experience of those who seek - through this channel for help. Consequently, am convinced there may be much that might come through me, that must not even attempt - hence am very much limited. Self must never enter as the primary factor - Jesus, the Christ First, and HIM crucified, which means much self denial in myself, as to worldly things. Not that I have any special code for self or others - much like HIS code as I have come to understand it, at least. Not something to be professed - rather something to be lived, each day a practical liverable [livable] thing. For all that is - is of HIS making and for our use as a constructive thing in our experiences. All to the glory of GOD, not to ourselves all falter and stumble oft, but the sincere try, is oft times counted for Righteousness. They are HIS who do His will - and what is His Will - “that ye love love another
• even as I have loved you.”

All this is very elementary am sure to you - personally however, oft fear, His Will is so simple, there in most of us stumble.

I suppose most ever form of Psychic experience - has come to me at one time or another. These to me however, have been assurances, never something to even try and convince others of, nor for me to boast of. But the fulfilling of that promise He gave to each of us, “If ye love me and keep my commandments - I will come and abide with you” - And we see it mostly in that we see brought into the lives of those we try and help.

But you will know whether or not the work is worthwhile from the meager data we have sent, rather than my trying to tell you this or that. My whole attitude, Mr. [2449], is this - I can promise no one anything - but for the Good that has come to me and my own loved ones - a appreciation for that good - am willing to try for others if and when they wish it.

Will be very glad to hear from you, and trust we may be the channel for a real service to you.

Many thanks for the descriptive literature which you sent me and which just arrived yesterday. Also many thanks for your very nice letter of Dec. 31st. I have read the material over carefully and found it extremely interesting. I see you are handling some work of the late Dr. Hardwicke. I knew him and his family quite well. Mrs. Hardwicke worked under me when I was at Asheville in 1933-34. Also did his son-in-law - Dan Kellog. He was here to see me only a few months ago. I managed Dr. Hardwicke’s first lectures given in New York and his first return to his Psychic work. I enclosed you a letter that I had prepared and sent out for him, together with a circular that I used. The Grace Educational Bureau was my Bureau, named Grace after my wife’s Christian name. You may be interested in looking over this Hardwicke material. [See below.]

I enclose a circular of Dr. Daniel also, another teacher-lecturer who has been trying, for the past several years, to get me [to] manage her work and efforts. I just a few days ago received another request from her.

I notice you are organized and have a corporation which I suppose is likely a non-profit corporation. Is this correct? Have you any plans for the development and expansion of your work? Are you interested in further and active development or have you all your plans worked out. Would you care to enlarge your field of activity to a much greater degree than you are now doing and to a degree where you could render your service for a greater number of people? If you would be interested in anything of this kind, I may be able to be of some real service to you. I would be glad to hear from you on the subject.

Now about an associate membership in your organization and a life reading, I would very dearly love to have both but at this time it would be impossible for me to pay down the 20 fee. I would like a membership so as to keep in close touch with you and your work and to know its developments as you go along and progress. But no matter how much I should like to have it I have no 20. at this writing chiefly due to the fact that I have been out to California for the government and while there I had no chance to earn any money at all. Also I would very much like to have a Life reading. I suppose a Life Reading would certainly include the mental & spiritual aspect, too, would it not? I would very much like to have this reading for two important reasons - one for the good it would do for me. It might show me just what my trouble is and why I am not connected up with the right kind of work. The other reason why I should like to have the reading is so that I could better judge the nature and character of the work you are doing. Have yours of the 5th - thank you for same. Yes, Dr. Hardwicke [Henry S. W. Hardwicke, M.D.] was a very good friend or ours, attended several of our Annual meetings which we hold each year some time in June. Hope you may be with us at the next meeting. Have only met Mrs. Hardwicke - but am not acquainted with Mr. Kellog.

The folder of Dr. Daniel is very interesting - tho never heard of her before, am sure however there are many wonderful workers and teachers I never heard of.

Yes - we are incorporated as an Ecclesiastical Corp. - non-profit, and is so recognized by the Gov. as well as in several states.

Am sending under separate cover a programme of the Assn. sent out about a year ago - since that time offices and the Fire-proof Vault have been built the work; of cross filing and data for study has gone on very slowly.

We are limited as to the number of readings that can be given - would like to enlarge the other field of the work if practical - and can be made helpful.

• will try and have it sponsored by some one if you feel it. Some 30 or more meet in person and possibly twice that number have the notes on same each week.

To me the Life reading is a most fantastic tale - how such could be conceived oft times wonder.
