This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of June, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [2451], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Miss [2451] and Mrs. [1523].]
Time of Reading 3:45 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2451].
-
Now, as we find, while there is still a great deal of irritation at times to the body, there ARE improvements in the GENERAL forces of the physical body.
-
We would continue with all of those things suggested.
-
It is much better that there IS the irritation externally than internally; for this may be removed, if there are the proper precautions, - but there must be set up the better eliminations.
-
We would use the Mullein flower and Mullein tea as an aid in better elimination. Make it as ordinary tea, brew it as tea, see? This would be taken at least every other day, about two ounces.
-
Occasionally - only about once a week - to aid in eliminations, take small quantities of Podophyllin, Leptandrin and Sanguinaria. The dosage would be; in each capsule:
Podophyllin…1/4 grain, Leptandrin…1/2 grain, Sanguinaria…1/2 grain.
-
And drink more water than has been consumed by the body, especially when these are taken.
-
We would use the Stearate of Zinc Powder with Balsam, as a powder for the areas of the rash; and massage same gently with an equal combination of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil - to keep the area moist and to prevent so much irritation.
-
Keep close to that diet as indicated.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Outline foods to stress and foods to avoid in the diet. (A) Keep away from anything that is sour or that has vinegar in it. Keep away from too much of sugar. The sugars in vegetables and fruits should be sufficient. Keep away from ALL pastries or the like. These are the things to beware of.
Have more of the fresh vegetables and fruits, both raw and cooked.
-
(Q) Any mental and spiritual advice? (A) Keep to the constructive thinking, purposeful activity for creative influences of good, - in self and in others.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/27/42 [2451]‘s letter to EC:
Association for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Your letter [See under 2678-1 Background] was gladly received and appreciated. I have enjoyed reading it again and again for it truly expresses my ideal of life, and I shall be glad to join in daily prayer for God’s guidance.
Sincerely, [2451]
R2. 4/11/51 Niece [1523]‘s report on 2451-1 and 2451-2:
The reading was followed exactly as outlined. In giving her the colonics, the stoppage mentioned was so noticeable that it was not possible to insert the colon tube more than 10 or 12 inches, without a great deal of discomfort. Almost immediately the skin condition began to clear - that is after the first series was completed. The treatments were kept up until about six complete series were taken. She had her reading and carried out the suggestions in spite of one or two members of her family, who were convinced that Mr. Cayce’s readings were a fake. When it was observed that she was so improved, little comment was made, except that the condition would have gone away anyhow. At the time the request was made for the second reading, there was a flare-up of the skin condition.
The treatments were continued for several months and the skin condition complete[ly] cleared, never to return again. Her health remained very good, energies increased, and all seemed well until about 1948 & 49. She started going to H. F. Dormire, M.D. off and on for about two and a half years, during which time she was given vitamins, and shots of various kinds. The shortness of breath returned, but the skin condition did not. At the suggestion of a brother whose two sons are doctors, she planned a check-up at the University of Virginia. On April 4th, 1951, she was taken ill, saying that she felt that there was something in her stomach that was as large as her hand. Her color became very yellow, and April 5th at 1:00 o’clock, she was operated on by Dr. J. W. Todd at Virginia Beach Hospital, at which time her gall bladder was removed. The doctor and nurse called me in to see the gall bladder. It was as large as a good size orange, and the color was an angry (deep) red. Gangrene had set in before the operation was begun. The doctor cut the gall bladder open to see if there were any stones and there were no stones, or sediment that would be visible to the naked eye, - just the deep red liquid which had inflated the gall bladder. She was not expected to live. When coming out of the operation, she remained in an oxygen tent for 12 hours, during which time she was so near the border that she was talking with others - on the “other side”. She mentioned her mother, and grand-mother - and an uncle - and said they wouldn’t talk with her. She was given food - intravenously and penicillin, and on the 3rd was given a soft diet. On the 4th day she was taken for a walk down the hall, and also for going to the bath room. She was not able to void naturally, until the fourth day. As of the 5th day penicillin is being continued, however she had no shots after the 7th for pain. It was a pitiful thing to see one of her age having to go through such an ordeal - and I prayed for her and gave her suggestion to relax - and told her it was alright if she wanted to go on and she replied - “in a little while”. She is loved and adored by every one in the hospital and praised as their best patient - for she was a shining example of patience and cooperation, in whatever she was asked to do.
R3. 5/12/51 Letter from niece, Mrs. [1523]: This note from Dr. Todd, along with the attached copies of doctors reports, etc., [See Par. R4 below] were given to Aunt [2451] to take with her to the University of Virginia Hospital where she is going for a rest and any further check-ups that she might need during that time. She has only now to gain back her strength, having made a remarkable recovery from the operation.”
Copy of Dr. Todd’s note:
She is now taking a multi-Vitamin and Parke Davis Prep “Desicol” - if she wants a change I would suggest “Entozyme” (Robbins) or Ketachol.

Findings: Acute gangrenous gallbladder the size of a medium sweet potato. When opened it contained dark foul-smelling fluid but no stones. The common duct was normal and was not opened. There was an acute generalized peritonitis but no actual perforation of the gall-bladder.
What was done: Skin was prepared with ether, Zephiran, and merthiolate and a right subcostal incision was made. Bleeders were controlled with the bovie, and self-retaining retractor was inserted. Exploration was kept at a minimum. The gallbladder was attached to the liver by a very small Pedicle which was clamped en masse with the cystic duct ligature of chromic “O”. There was no raw surface in the gallbladder bed. A penrose drain and a cigarette drain were placed down to the lesser sac and brought out through a stab wound lateral to the incision. Abdomen was closed in layers with catgut, utilizing 4 heavy cotton tension sutures through the anterior fascia. The skin was closed with No. 30 cotton.

Acute Cholecystitis Gall Bladder
GROSS EXAMINATION: Specimen consists of gall bladder brown to black in color measuring 8.5 cm X 6 cm X 4 cm, received previously opened. The wall is 3-4 mm in thickness and dark brown throughout. The muscosa is finely granular and dark brown to black in color.
A. P. Long Jr., M.D.
MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION: Wall of gall bladder is completely necrotic consisting entirely of blood and fibrin and the remains of a few vessels with occasional focal collections of leukocytes. In some areas the shallow-like remains of the vessels and stroma can be made out, but in these areas all muclei are absent.

Diagnosis: Gangrene of gall bladder with empyema
R4. 4/23/52 Niece, Mrs. [1523]‘s letter: In 12/51 my aunt, [2451], complained of a sharp pain in her left side, just above the hip bone. She was taken to Dr. Dormire and he had her remain at the hospital for observation. During the period of two weeks that she was hospitalized she was given laxatives, alcohol rubs once a day, and sun lamp on the left side. I went by to see her several times, and except for the pain in her side (which appeared to be a soreness of the muscles from her description) when she moved, she was alright. She was dismissed from the hospital and told to return for check-ups. Apparently the condition had cleared, since the pain was gone, and she was given something that looked like salts which was to take the place of the function or activity that the gall bladder would normally have taken care of. This she took daily. There was no name on the bottle, so I don’t know what medicine this was. Meantime I talked with my aunt, and told her that if she needed help again on this condition, she’d better let me help her out. It would certainly be less expensive and maybe more effective. At this time I discovered that she had forgotten that she ever had a reading. When she complained again of the pain in her side, my mother and I started her on castor oil packs, just as outlined in her first Physical Rdg. The first pack was started on 4/11th. When the first pack of this series was applied over the stomach and side, it was so painful that she could hardly stand it. The next night it was not so bad and the third night she was quite comfortable during the hour when the pack was taken. The second series was started on the 18th, and the 23rd a professional colonic was taken. (In addition to the packs, I had her alternate Zilatone and Eno Salts and special attention was given to her diet.) Almost half of the water was taken, and nothing came back but some mucous. She was seated on the toilet and there was some evacuation. Then another attempt was made to inject water. This time there was some success with some very dark green fecal matter showing up and also mucous. The nurse called in H. R. Bybee, D.C. and they observed that there was a stoppage, or block in the intestinal track. When she returned home that night, she said she was feeling much better. During the colonic, however she complained of being very uncomfortable - that her stomach felt puffed up. She has gradually improved up to this point, and the treatments will be continued. On the Wednesday following the first series - she had an appointment with Dr. Dormire and a specialist that was to be called in. It seems that there was the possibility of the bones deteriorating and they wanted to check this. Also they thought there might be some sediment hardening in the area where the gall bladder had been, and that was to be checked also. I explained to [2451] my aunt that according to her reading her trouble was coming from a different source, and that I would help her in following her reading, provided she decided to do that instead of go to the doctors. It would not be reasonable to try to do both. Since she had no one, ‘doctor-minded’ around her, she took the line of least resistance in following the readings given for her.
R5. 5/13/52 Niece, Mrs. [1523]‘s letter:
My aunt has continued with the Castor Oil Packs each week; beginning with her 5th pack on the 12th of May. She had her second professional colonic on the 9th of May and her condition was improved to the extent that the flow of water was not stopped as on the occasion when the first colonic was taken. Dr. Bybee suggested that X-rays be taken. He was shown the two readings given for my aunt, read them hastily and remarked ‘very interesting’. Since my mother is working with me in following out the suggestions, we plan to put off having the X-ray made, if we can do so without getting the ill will of the doctor, just as long as my aunt continues to improve. The nurse who give [gave] the colonics said that my aunt is much better, but there was still mucous being eliminated. Along with the packs Zilatone is being used for 3 days each week - and Eno Salts in the mornings; also strict attention to diet during the 4 days each week that my aunt stays with my mother. The other 3 days she return to her ‘home place’ where she lives with a brother and his wife and family; there she tends to her chickens and honey bees, and no doubt forgets all about diet and eliminations. It was only 5 or 6 weeks ago that she was speaking to a neighbor of my mother, explaining to her that she never had any trouble with her eliminations.
R6. 2/17/54 Newspaper Clipping: “Friends and relatives of Miss [2451] are calling today from 2-4 o’clock to pay their respects in honor of her birthday [80th] which is being celebrated at the home of [her sister, Mrs. [1541]].”
R7. 8/22/57 She died at 1:30 P.M., after several months of being in a nursing home.
