This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of June, 1938, in accordance with request made by Hugh Lynn Cayce, Manager of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the work of the Ass’n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., in studying and presenting the psychic work of Edgar Cayce, especially as related to the coming Seventh Annual Congress, June 25, 26, 27, 28. You will advise us as to presenting a Congress that will be most helpful to all those who are concerned. Questions.

2. EC: Yes, we have the work of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Incorporated; with its ideals and purposes that have been indicated for same.

3. In the presenting of the work at the Seventh Annual Congress, the special three phases of same should be stressed; not in a conglomerate manner but rather with a definite period set aside for each phase; that in the vocational guidance as from the information in Life Readings; that in the physical from presentation of reports and the like; and that in the educational and spiritual.

4. These in their regular channel or order should present a perspective of the activities in such a way and manner as to not only be interesting but worth while in the consciousnesses of those who may be studying or seeking knowledge pertaining to the activities of the Association.

6. (Q) Regarding the selection of Trustees the following have been nominated. Comment on each name as follows: W. L. JONES: (A) Very good, very sincere; not very aggressive, but very helpful.

7. (Q) HELEN ELLINGTON. (A) Very well, but very doubtful whether there would be the acceptance; but if accepted would be very well.

8. (Q) GLADYS DILLMAN.

(A) As we have indicated, this entity should be a part of the activities of the Association - as may be presented by the entity so well; for the entity is not only aggressive but broad, and in keeping with the purposes and the ideals of the Association.

9. (Q) DAVID E. KAHN. (A) Very well that this entity be kept in line with that as has been indicated.

10. (Q) ESTHER WYNNE. (A) Very well that this entity be kept in line with those things that are being presented; and as the entity is a part of the whole plan it is very well to be kept in order.

11. (Q) BURT DAVIS. (A) Very well, but not aggressive in the activities. This had best be left for the next Congress.

12. (Q) JULIA CHANDLER. (A) This entity had best be kept as help in certain directions, rather than as a director or one to formulate policies in special directions. Best be kept in other channels of work as combined with the activities as may be given by others, on special-committee work; which would be better than being an officer or trustee.

13. (Q) LESLIE SAVAGE. (A) Very well. This as we find would be very well in keeping with the policies and activities, and the associations or connections.

14. (Q) Are there any other individuals who may be suggested through this channel now? (A) You’ll have to have the nomination before we may say who may be presented! Then information may be given. These may be only acted upon through these channels as nominations are made, if the policies, rules and regulations are followed as have been set; and not individuals CHOSEN by such information itself! For there might be many presented that are not even members of the organization!

15. (Q) Is there any individual recommended as Chairman of the Board? (A) As we find, it would be very well to make a rule or regulation, or policy, that the President will become Chairman or the Chairman will become President. Or it would be better to follow rather in the order so that the Vice-President would become President, or so that all are retained and become officers in their regular form.

16. (Q) As President? (A) As indicated, rather should each one be set as to pass through each phase of the activities; that after so great an activity in a certain office it is set for special service - either in committees or the various channels through which such may rotate.

17. (Q) Just how should the presentation of the information on National and International affairs on Monday, June 27th, be handled? Two Readings on this material are contemplated before the period. (A) You’ll have to have it before information may be given as to how it may be presented! This may be given with the information!

18. (Q) Please give the suggestion which should be used to secure such information? [6/20/38 and 6/24/38. See 3976-18 and 3976-19.] (A) Remember the policies that have been set, and the type of information that may be sought; that it should be asked for as there is the preparation of the various channels of the group activity to do something ABOUT same! Not individual groups of the Association, or that are presenting the ASSOCIATION activity; but through groups or individuals prepared to do something ABOUT same - or prepared for such an activity, see? Not information of such a type or nature that would be so informative as to become startling, then. Though there will be plenty of startling things to happen, they are not to be presented through such an activity of the Association. Rather present that which may be helpful.

19. (Q) Any suggestions regarding the Congress dinner presenting the Life Readings? (A) As indicated, the vocational guidance should be stressed. And, to be sure, the activities at the dinner may be used in a way to show the relation to a great deal of information which has been given as to the abilities of individuals from individual appearances or sojourns. Of course, as much as possible, such would be related to the vocational activity; yet a great deal may be used for amusement - but not as confusements in your amusement.

20. (Q) What recommendations may be given regarding the evening to be devoted to the Physical Readings? (A) As indicated, this would be the time wherein there may be as many presentations as possible of individual cases, with as many physicians as may be practical, as well as the individuals who may speak a word for themselves - even though it is only yes or no.

21. (Q) What should be done regarding publicity for the Congress? Should there be any stress other than regular announcements in papers? (A) Only the regular announcements. No turmoil or great banners or bugles to be blown.

22. (Q) Any other suggestions for the Manager, or in regard to the Congress? (A) These as we find, if they are followed in a general perspective, should make for a most interesting and a most active as well as worth while experience for all.

A LAST WORD ON THE CONGRESS [Upcoming 7th Annual]

Seven years ago we held our first Congress [6/29/32]. Suggestion for such a series of meetings came through a reading on the work of the Association.

Our new Association was just beginning to take its first faltering steps when a small group of individuals from Norfolk met for the first open Congress reading. Norfolk was still humming with the talk of the closing of our hospital and the Atlantic University in which we were interested. It was not easy to start over, but those first steps were made easier by the faith, courage and cooperation of the small Norfolk group who came to the first Congress meetings.

Through the past seven years the Association has brought many well known speakers on psychic subjects to Congress meetings. There has never been any effort to give publicity to the work of the Association other than through individuals who have found its study and presentation of the psychic work of Edgar Cayce proving helpful in their lives. Neither has there been any effort at holding pretentious Congress meetings.

It is our desire to give a picture of the work of the Association during the past year. We know that in bringing people from all parts of the country together, people of varying social interests, economic standards and religious points of view, all interested in the one subject of Edgar Cayce’s psychic readings there may come a renewing of thought and effort in making it possible for the greatest good to come from this work.

Our problem is not to go out into the highways and byways and gather in a crowd. It is to bring together those few individuals who have been moved by the tremendous possibilities for accomplishing good which are opened through this work.

We are glad that individuals coming from various parts of the country for this SEVENTH ANNUAL CONGRESS will meet almost all of that first group who gathered for the First Congress open reading. We are glad that the President of our Association is a man who has known Mr. Edgar Cayce for over twenty years David Kahn]. Consistency is an important factor in psychical research. It will be a point of stress for this Congress.

We hope to welcome you to Virginia Beach next week. If you cannot be present remember to send at least one good thought to represent you.

CONGRESS NOTES

CONGRESS DINNER

The dinner which will open the Congress on Saturday, June 25th is to be held at one of the most attractive Inns a few miles from Virginia Beach on the boulevard to Norfolk. The Pine Tree Inn is well known in this section for its fine foods and good service.

The program, favors and decorations for the dinner are being planned around the general subject of Life Readings. This will be an unusual evening.

Tickets for the dinner are one dollar. Out of town guests will be seen by Mrs. Mae Verhoeven who has charge of the dinner arrangements and transportation.

In Norfolk individuals desiring tickets should see or call Mrs. Helen Wheeler, 2709 Lafayette Blvd., or Mrs. Margaret Wilkins, Phone 37542. ALL RESERVATIONS FOR THE DINNER MUST BE MADE BY WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22ND.

CONFERENCES

Following a short rest period after the afternoon meetings on Sunday, June 26th and Monday, June 27th, round table conferences will be conducted on Group Work. These conferences will last for forty-five minutes to an hour.

On Sunday the period will be conducted by Miss Esther Wynne, Chairman of the Study Group Work and member of the Board of Trustees. Miss Wynne will be assisted by members of the Study Group Committee. The topics to be covered at this period will be: Study Group Lessons; Organizing Groups; Group Management; Extension of Group Work. On Monday afternoon the conference period will be devoted to Group Study of Spiritual Healing. This discussion will be led by Miss Florence Edmonds, a member of the Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Group studying Spiritual Healing.

These conferences have been arranged so that members not interested in these special subjects may leave after the open readings.

RECREATION

The meetings have been so spaced for this Congress as to allow time for recreation in the mornings of each day. Members coming from out of town will find golf, bathing, riding, tennis and other sports enjoyable.

On Monday morning, June 27th, Mr. Edgar Cayce has arranged a fishing trip for those who would like to join him for a couple of hours of channel fishing. Transportation will be provided from Virginia Beach to the inlet where motor boats will take the party out. The time will have to conform with the tides.

On Tuesday afternoon the facilities of one of the Beach Clubs will be available for a tea dance from 4:30 to 6. Those who care to dance or enjoy listening to good music will find this a pleasant interlude between meetings.

TRANSPORTATION

Out of town guests for the Congress are assured of transportation to and from all Congress meetings including the dinner at the Pine Tree Inn. Mrs. Mae Verhoeven, who has charge of tickets for the dinner and transportation, will be in touch with guests and arrange this matter.

Norfolk members and friends who desire transportation to and from any of the Congress meetings including the dinner should communicate with MRS. OSCAR SMITH, PHONE 36572 between the hours of 8 to 11 or 5:30 to 8 each day. It is believed that arrangements can be made for all who desire to attend meetings but it is absolutely necessary that Mrs. Smith be notified of the meetings you desire to attend if you wish the committee to arrange transportation for you.

Those who plan to attend any of the Congress meetings and will have room in their car for one or more individuals will be of great help if they will notify Mrs. Smith.

RESERVATIONS FOR THE CONGRESS DINNER TRANSPORTATION MUST BE MADE BY WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22ND.

PERSONAL PSYCHIC EXPERIENCES

On Tuesday morning, June 28th, between ten and twelve Mr. Edgar Cayce will be at home for an informal discussion of some of his more recent psychic experiences. If you are not personally acquainted with Mr. Cayce this will be an excellent time to get to know him better.

AFTERNOON MEETINGS

All afternoon meetings will be held at Mr. Cayce’s home on Arctic Circle, Virginia Beach. They will begin promptly on time and will close promptly.

The Monday and Tuesday afternoon meetings will include open readings on subjects of general interest. The subjects will be selected by a committee of out of town guests. There will also be on each of these afternoons a thirty minute presentation of information on the subjects mentioned: Sources of Psychic Information and Psychic Information on Pre-historic Periods.

EVENING MEETINGS

All evening meetings will be of special interest to those being introduced to this work for the first time.
