GC: You will have before you the situation which has arisen regarding radio program at WOR, and the suggestions which have been presented for a combination of efforts of Harold Sherman, M. H. H. Joachim and Hugh Lynn Cayce, working together to produce a separate recording of a possible program. You will tell Hugh Lynn Cayce which is the best procedure considering all factors and developments: To proceed to work up a sustaining program with WOR if possible, or combine efforts with Sherman and Joachim for a psychic program to be sold direct to sponsors? You will then answer the questions submitted by Hugh Lynn Cayce, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the conditions which have developed. These as we find have changed materially since last we had same here; as well as since the seeking in this particular frame of mind or awareness.
-
As we find, it would be most advisable to continue with the developing of the program as a sustaining program. For as we find this may be written in such a way and manner, as well as presented, that it may be sold or used as a program.
-
As to considerations regarding the working of a program with Joachim and Sherman and Hugh Lynn Cayce, this is very well. But, as has been indicated, there must NOT be used the name of the individual from whom such is obtained; but rather the good which may be gained in the experience of individuals through information of the psychic nature as to their qualifications or as to the development into their activities FROM such information.
-
This may be written - that is, as a program - from the experiences that have been obtained by individuals, see - as well as from those that may be a development as conditions progress. Never as Experiences but as Facts FROM an experience, see?
-
This is a very good connection and association, provided there is still kept the basic forces or principles as taught by the Master - and not those as of any cult, schism or ism.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any advice or suggestions to Hugh Lynn Cayce regarding improving, or as to just what should be done now on the program of WOR? (A) As we find, the new injection of the dramatic effect, - as well as holding to the benefits materially AND mentally. Stress the MENTAL attunement attained, or the satisfactions. And these will be more and more acceptable as the program develops.
-
(Q) Then you would advise Hugh Lynn Cayce to continue with WOR? (A) As has been given.
-
(Q) Regarding the other connections: Is Joachim the right producer for a psychic program? (A) As indicated, provided there is kept the occidental rather than the oriental tinge or tend or trend.
-
(Q) Could you suggest a better one? for such a program? (A) This is very well if it is so desired. Or there may be ANY of those that may be gathered from such conditions that are of a varied nature, which include not only telepathic but clairvoyant and clairaudient activities, as well as those through all the various forms or natures as are presented; making as might be given one FOR, one AGAINST, one FOR and one AGAINST the use of same; so that there might be presented a CONSTRUCTIVE approach. That which would be AGAINST would be to show how easily one might be misled, or become sidetracked; while the one FOR would be to ever show the constructive and the creative.
Remember this: All such must have basic principles, rather than laws.
-
(Q) How far should the work of the Ass’n be involved and sold direct to a sponsor? (A) As indicated, only that of the nature from vocational guidance.
-
(Q) Is development now wise with Sherman-Joachim new program on Life Readings or Edgar Cayce’s experiences? (A) As indicated, only those of the nature where helpful forces may be presented - or have been had, through vocational guidance; not JUST an experience.
-
(Q) Is now time to develop program for Spot Ford Hour on Life Readings? (A) This would be acceptable with the correct character or nature of program.
-
(Q) Any other advice that will be helpful to Hugh Lynn Cayce at this time? (A) Let all the principles, all the way through, ever be - give those basic principles, and the LAWS are set in motion BY the attunement of individuals to THEIR development in relationship to Creative Forces.
That is a basic law respecting all such. And see by comparison as to how LAW as made by the teachers of old differs from that given by the Teacher of Teachers. One is mode and manner and law, the other PRINCIPLE - with the free will that is ever in Choice.
- We are through for the present.

ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH & ENLIGHTENMENT, INC., VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. BUILDING PROGRAM
Does this impress you as being only a scheme for raising money? Then please discard it at once. I am merely following the directions of a dream, vision or experience. Should some of you feel the urge to contribute, and there not be sufficient to complete the work, your contribution will be returned.
You are to judge whether this is just fancy or selfishness on my part, or a real experience that concerns YOU.
On the evening of November 4th I had this dream, vision or experience:
I was in our office [“reading room”] discussing with some of the family the necessity for protecting and preserving the records we already have, and the means for doing this. Suddenly a master (THE Master, to me) appeared and said:
“PEACE be unto you! Ask all whom you have tried to help to HELP YOU save these records, for they are THEIR experiences and are a part of THEM! Whether they contribute a shingle, a beam, a window, a door, or the entire vault for the records, give them ALL the opportunity to have a part in the work.”
A place for preserving these records is becoming more and more a necessity. We have approximately thirty thousand (30,000) [GD’s note much later [yr. 1973, in fact]: Wrong count. This was estimating roughly a total number including ones EC had given of which we had no copies. We had not actually counted the ones on file. At the end of the indexing program, microfilm, etc. [11 yrs. it took] there were 14,256 readings copies of which we did have on file.] copies of individual readings which we believe will, if preserved, be of inestimable value to the world through scientific research in the years to come. Investigators have told us that we have the largest collection in existence of the records of an individual psychic.
Such a place may be prepared at a cost of eighteen hundred dollars or more ($1800), provided it is built adjoining my home here in Virginia Beach.
Do you want to have a part in this?
Yours in service, (signed) Edgar Cayce

ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INCORPORATED Virginia Beach, Virginia
“Man’s search for Truth is his search for God.”
REPORTING ON 1938
In December 1938 the Association completed its seventh year. This organization obtained its charter from the State of Virginia in 1931. It took the place of the Association of National Investigators, Incorporated, which had been studying and presenting Mr. Edgar Cayce’s psychic work.
Our present Association includes and extends the purposes of the old organization.
The past year of 1938 has been the finest in the history of the work. There is growing evidence of greater understanding and appreciation among those who take part in carrying this work forward through their individual psychic readings.
There are four major Departments through which members function: PSYCHIC READINGS: PUBLICATIONS: GROUP STUDY: and RECORDS AND LIBRARY.
Psychic Readings Edgar Cayce gives psychic readings for members of the Association in order of application. Each reading is considered an experiment in psychical research. Stenographic reports are furnished the individual and are placed in the Association files. Two report blanks are sent each individual at the end of the first and second months. Members are encouraged to study and check their readings.
During 1938 Edgar Cayce gave the following psychic readings:
First Physical…196 Check Physical…283 Life Readings…115 Professional…29 Mental and Spiritual…14 Study Groups…7 Research…21
Total 665
During the past year we have obtained better cooperation than ever before in working with sympathetic, open-minded physicians who have checked and followed suggestions in the physical readings. In New York City alone we now have three medical doctors, several osteopaths and a number of chiropractors who have successfully handled individual cases. We are looking forward to and welcome extension of this cooperation in all fields of the healing art.
Publications
The expansion of the Publication Department has been very gradual. Various pamphlets have been added to the list of publications to meet the needs in adequately presenting this work. Changes and additions will be made from time to time.
At the meeting of the Board of Trustees in June 1938, a Secretary of the Publication Committee was appointed who will have charge of the sale and distribution of the publications. Mrs. Helen Storey who offered her services for this work has been a member of the Association for many years. She has kept in close touch with the various activities of the oganization and is well qualified to handle this phase of the work. Mrs. Storey will work in close touch with the Chairman of the Publication Committee, Mr. Thomas Sugrue, and the Manager of the Association, Hugh Lynn Cayce.
As will be seen by a perusal of the publication list which is enclosed, the Association now has a series of case studies which show the value of the physical readings covering a number of different types of ailments. There is an explanatory paper on the Life Readings and various other material which covers the various types of information being secured and studied.
We now have an introductory pamphlet A MAN, HIS WORK, AND WHAT IT MAY MEAN TO YOU, which is being given wide distribution.
Research papers and printed booklets will be added to the publication list during the coming year and many of the present booklets will be revised and brought up to date.
Group Study
For several years a group of some fifteen individuals in Norfolk, Virginia, have been studying psychic readings given twice each month on subjects pertaining to the question of individual development of psychic faculties.
This group is now taking the final steps in drafting and revising the first series of twelve papers which it has compiled for printing in a book.
At the same time this group is continuing work on the second series of twelve papers and is also testing the first of these through presentation to small groups in the Norfolk area.
The organization of this Department of Study Groups was perfected in 1938 with Miss Esther Wynne, a member of the Board of Trustees, as the Chairman. Mrs. Hannah Miller is the Secretary-Treasurer of this Department.
Records and Library
During 1938, a building program was launched for a vault to house the thousands of psychic readings which are now in the Association files. This will include a new and larger office for the Association connected with Mr. Cayce’s home.
It has been felt for some time that there is considerable danger in not protecting these invaluable records from fire and one of the major needs of the Association is a complete index of the information now on hand. This work cannot be started until more adequate space is available.
All of the funds necessary for this addition have not been secured but plans are under way to raise this money and work will be started as soon as it is secured.
There has been a steady increase in the Association Library. During the year over fifty volumes were added. Space will be provided in the new offices for more adequate library facilities.
Regional Representatives
During 1938, fifteen members of the Association in various parts of the country agreed to act as Regional Representatives. These Representatives distribute literature, help individuals prepare questions for readings and explain readings for those who obtain them.
Mrs. Charles W. Dillman, a member of the Board of Trustees, works directly with these men and women as Chairman of the Membership and Reading Committee. Special meetings and a reading will be held for these Representatives during the Congress period.
General Summary
At the close of 1938, the Association had 243 Associate members and 91 Active Members. This made a total membership of 334.
With a growing public interest in psychic subjects we look forward to a year of constructive service in the psychic research field.
EIGHTH ANNUAL CONGRESS
Members of the Board of Trustees have suggested a slight change in the announced dates for the Eighth Annual Congress. The last Bulletin carried the announcement of these dates for June 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATES TO WHICH THIS HAS BEEN CHANGED ARE:
JUNE 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th.
THESE ARE THE FINAL CONGRESS DATES. MAKE YOUR PLANS TO BE PRESENT.
We are planning the most interesting program ever presented for a Congress of the Association.
A full outline of this program will appear in an early Bulletin.
ATTENTION MEMBERS
We now have two publications which we would like to give general distribution:
A MAN, HIS WORK, AND WHAT IT MAY MEAN TO YOU.
and PUBLICATIONS OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INCORPORATED.
We will be glad to mail you any number of these you desire to distribute for us.
Drop us a card indicating the number you can use.
