This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of September, 1927, in accordance with request made by Edgar Cayce.

Time of Reading 115 West 35th St., 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Virginia Beach, Va.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of Edgar Cayce, present in this room. Also information that has been given regarding this body making a trip to various centers for the purpose of getting contributions toward the Association of National Investigators, Inc., and the Institute - and you will tell this body as to whether this is the proper time, or just when he should visit these centers, and especially considering the circumstances and conditions of every nature, whether he should visit N. Y. at the present time. You will answer any other questions I may ask you respecting this.

2. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, and that information as given as respecting the visit of the body to centers for solicitation of contribution toward the Association and Institute, conditions surrounding the body and those interested in same - New York - and that as necessary for same.

3. Now we find while the body should visit such centers and places for this, and that there are many conditions to be considered respecting each of these centers, there should be specific preparation made would the body not expend more than the contributions would amount to.

4. As given, there are various groups in various centers through which contributions should come, and these may be expected, handled in the proper way and manner. These may be gummed up or hindered, rather than assisted, handled improperly. Hence, as we see, as given, let the groups be formed before such a trip is made. These are ESPECIALLY seen in Birmingham and Chicago - and AFTER the fifteenth of October such trips to these places should be made.

5. As respecting conditions in New York, those conditions surrounding the visit there are of that nature that best that the holidays be passed before such a trip is made; that is, those of the Jewish holidays, for most of the contributions will be through such groups. Hence we see one or the other of the other places SHOULD be visited before the New York trip is made. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Should the body make the trip to Chicago after the 10th? (A) As given, after the 15th.

7. (Q) Should he then go to New York or Birmingham? (A) Depending upon circumstances and conditions.

8. (Q) Just what specific holidays are referred to? (A) Those of the Jewish holidays occurring on Tuesday and Monday of the coming weeks. Tuesday of next week, Monday of the week following.

9. (Q) Advise the body just how these groups should be handled in the proper manner. (A) Through that of individuals heading societies or groups who are studying phenomena of the nature that is being investigated, or the PROPAGATION of the work of such phenomena being worked by the Association who are interesting others in the phenomena they are studying. Then, individuals, of course, who have been and are interested already from the various conditions that have surrounded their touch or contact with the phenomena.

10. (Q) Give this body [Edgar Cayce] any advice and counsel that will assist him in any way regarding this question. (A) There are many things to be considered. There are many individual opinions. There are many circumstances surrounding the various conditions as respecting this solicitation and the work of the Association at the present time. As has been seen, there are the comparative few of those who are the heads - or supposed heads, or active on paper - of the institute that are as yet in whole accord with that being attempted. Each, then, have their various ideas concerning same. There MUST be cooperation. While there is always in such work the work of one, two, three individuals who actually perform the WORK, yet to succeed there must be whole-hearted cooperation. There is, and has been given, that this should be done. Do it NOW! and there has also been given that would the work succeed such work must be carried to the individuals, then to groups, then to the masses. As is seen, this will be accomplished - NOT in a day, not in any ONE given time, save when there is seen a concerted action on the part of those that are in accord with the proper manner of establishing such work, see? Delays, apparently, are dangerous. As seen, there is the necessity soon of considering MANY of the various phases of that already undertaken - yet this, as is seen, is working even as the leaven that leaveneth the whole lump.

R1. 11/8/27 EC’s ltr. to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn:-

We took the opportunity this morning to get a reading [See 341-26] on the dreams you sent. I don’t know as I understand just what is meant here or not. Possibly you will be able to correlate this with circumstances and conditions in your own mind better than I can, for apparently it seems to relate more to mental attitude and changes that come about in same, than anything else. Possibly you will be able - if you don’t understand it entirely - to formulate a list of questions that may tend to clarify it. Of course we’ll be glad to do this if we can.

Just had a little note from [849], and I think if you all losing Saturday’s game bemuddled everyone else’s minds as it did [849]‘s for the moment, you must have a soreheaded lot - but in Life’s race some must lose and some must gain.

I’m enclosing you a little slip for you to sign. As you will see, it relates to the policy that Mr. Van Patten has gotten. Just whether I’m going to be able to take this up or not at present time I don’t know. In fact I don’t see how I can with so many things coming on right at this time.

Well, [900] was down Sunday. We thought possibly we had everything in shape for the letting of the contract for the institution, and getting started to work on it right away, but today it doesn’t seem that we are any nearer than we were two or three months ago, though they have a plan worked out whereby it might be financed - IF they will carry it along in that way, but it’s a pretty big responsibility for one or two people to assume just at the present status of conditions. In brief, it is this: We are to clear the land on which the building is to be put. The building complete to cost approximately 30,000 - it might be 32,000 or 30,000. When the roof is on, 5000 in cash to be paid. When it’s completed another 5000 to be paid. Then we are to get a loan on the building and we can get about 20,000, or when the commission and all is off 18,000 or 19,000. Pay $15,000 of it to the contractors and they take a second mortgage for the difference in the cost price and the amount then that would have been paid us. But, the hitch is: It is necessary, in getting this loan, to have personal security to the first mortgage. Banks or trust companies do not care to make loans to corporations that have no paid in capital stock. I know [900] is an enthusiastic as ever, and says we are going through, but whether he will be able to get [137] or [195] to sign this mortgage with him, I don’t know. But that’s the situation at present as respecting that. I’m just hoping for the best.

I suppose one thing that makes me feel so pessimistic is the situation as respecting what I have been able to do toward getting others whom I THOUGHT were interested up to the point of showing a little WORKABLE interest. You know I have been waiting two months, trying to get Mr. [953] and [165] together. [165] seemed very enthusiastic when he was here, but has not been able to get a word even in edgeways with Mr. [953]. The cause I don’t know. That’s about floored me. Then I haven’t been able to get any word from any of the people in Birmingham that would seem to indicate that they would take enough personal interest to take hold and try and do something. In talking this over with [900], he suggested that he felt it would be necessary for me to make a trip to try and work these things out. But feeling as I do already, I don’t know whether I am half beaten before I commence or not. If I can get word from Mr. [953] that I can see him the end of this week, I am going to see him, and see if I can find out what’s the trouble. [165] just wrote that he didn’t feel that he could tackle the whole thing alone unless he could get some cooperation from that source, and the next move was mine. What do you get on this anyway? I sure need a good boost. If you see it, why let me have it. If you don’t, let me have it just the same, ‘cause there’s no use my spending some valuable time and a considerable amount of money to try and do something that I will not be able to do.

We are all pretty well here. We had a Life Reading the other day on [369]. They all say it is most interesting. I haven’t read it - have been just waiting for the opportunity to read it over with [369] and see what we make out of it, but it appears that in her six appearances four of them she and I have been very closely associated. In fact, she is the one I must have left [in Egypt] to run off with the dancer in the temple [538]. From what they all say, it seems she has wonderful possibilities of helping us in the work. I would like to hear you discuss it.

Dear Dad,

Your last letter coupled with everything else indicates clearly a lag in events, a period of seeming gloom, inactivity and general hesitation. Think back for just a moment and everything becomes understandable.

All the people were quiet. The revolt and the personal affairs of the king had been put into order again. Messengers were going back and forth between the king and the exiled priest. The greatest statesmen of the country had been bending every effort to find some point of reconciliation and had found it in a joining in of both the king and the priest in one of the greatest institutions ever known to man. The king was in favor of the enterprise and had settled himself to the straightening of the disordered details about him. Still the high councilor had not given any words of favor. To him the people turned to see his reaction to this new enterprise which had grown under the hand of the statesmen without his aid. It seemed that he still fought to uphold against the priest whom he had fought so long and so hard. Another outbreak of the old disturbance seemed certain. So far he had been left out; considered yet in a distant manner. Now he was needed for the work to go forward. Stillness settled over the land like a giant cloud, darkness, doubt, then light. The high councilor threw himself into the work and progress began again.

Fanciful, doubtless wrong yet this, I think, is a background for the reasons of the present conditions. Dad, this thing is too big to expect it to run off in marked time; it is too mixed and tied up with men’s lives and souls to not meet here and there a contest of mind, spirit and matter; it is too deep for those who do not understand to grasp it and carry on; it means too much for those who have not had a direct part in the establishment not to say proudly “you started without us - continue.” Yet once the spirit, the urge, the understanding, the light comes to those who are needed there will, there must come a response. The purpose is His purpose, and He stands behind His purposes and drives as well as calls, for He used the whip as well as the calm word. Against such physical sins have no power - jealousy will fall with the rest. Upon yourself you have taken the task of bringing together all that you tore asunder. It is not easy. There is a lot to fight but O what a lot you have to fight it with! Surge on - on always; this is but a pause, a bit of dark cloud and there is lots of bright sky back of it all. Nothing would be a waste of money that would even seem to get closer to the man [953] who you know must have a part in this work.

Now to you and Muddie both.

My dreams fitted very well, too well in fact. [Briefed in 341-26 Reports] Sure I understood them. I am running loose in a sea of thought, not forgetting the foundation on which I was standing but neglecting it. Nothing serious, just a relax of the wrong kind. I have somewhat neglected my work, as my grades will show soon. Again nothing serious, I hope. I have neglected to continue to think in a straight line and, as the dreams indicated, since out from under the thoughts and ideas that held me so close, so straight, I have found it easy to give away to the physical. The trouble was that I knew and did not care to think about it - a sad state, very. I have told you this not to worry you but to let you understand the dreams that must have caused some thought - with you both. Again I insist that it is nothing serious. A mental state from which I need arousing. [1005] can explain some of the definite forms that this state of inactivity took which will in turn explain to you both what a contrast it caused in my thinking and general atmosphere. It is quite funny and quite interesting. I will be able to explain in detail better when I see you Thanksgiving. Will be home. Will drive down in same car I went to Washington in. Hope you understand all this and get a clear idea, for really it is interesting.

I am sorry to announce that my board lady is crying for her shekels and I have them not. Have been spending money very foolishly. Hope I can explain that too later; haven’t the time here now.

Nothing new except myself and that I don’t understand, so must close this very careless letter with the hopes that I have said the right things and have not said too much that letters cannot explain. I will have lots to tell you and am really looking forward to it. It has never been my policy to keep things from you all and I shall not begin now. Don’t quiz [1005] too closely for he doesn’t know but part of it.
