This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of July, 1941, in accordance with request made by the sister - Mrs. [2544], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2574].

At Mrs. Oglesby’s Time of Reading Nursing Home, 10:40 to 10:55 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ala.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - [2544], - resting in the yard.

3. We have the body here, [2544].

4. Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions. These are the result of external injuries to the body.

5. And pressures that exist especially in the coccyx area of the spine cause a deflection of nerve energies and impulses; producing hallucinations to the mental reaction.

6. However, there are not lesions of any character in the brain.

7. Thus, as we find, - with care, with persistence - there can be the removal of the pressures and normal MENTAL reaction brought to this body.

8. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2544] we are speaking of:

9. The blood supply is very good. That there have not been deflections as to cause wasting of portions of the body is well. There ARE those conditions which prevent the nominal reaction of the nerve and muscular forces.

10. But from external injuries the nerves in the coccyx end of the spine have been jammed, as well as that reaction upon the nerves in the lumbar axis and the brachial and cervical.

11. These however, as we find, are of secondary nature; that is, the lesions that are formed there.

12. In the reaction to the nerves, as the pressures upon the coccyx end and the brush end of the cerebrospinal, congested areas have formed there.

13. Periods come when there is self-condemnation, self-realization of the reactions; and at times the feeling or expression of POSSESSION.

14. These are reflexes through the sympathetic system.

15. As we find, ALL then is of the nature of nerve pressures of spinal conditions, and will require the removal of same, - not by operative measures in the beginning, though it may require in the end that the first and second portions of the coccyx - or coccyx bones - be removed. This will depend upon how well the body responds to administrations.

16. Under the direction of one such as Still, - then, - we would make first the applications of Wet Heat to the sacral AND the coccyx area. And the first MOVEMENTS would be done UNDER an anaesthesia.

17. These we would do osteopathically, though; and then gradually make coordinations along the rest of the spinal system.

18. And we will find - in not too long a period, either - there will return more and more a mental and a physical normalcy for this body.

19. Do that, and we will bring the abilities of this body, this entity, for activity in this material experience.

20. Ready for questions.

21. (Q) Do the teeth have anything to do with her condition? (A) These conditions are rather the results of pressures that have deflected those conditions through the body. These will be part of the corrections to be made, but are results - NOT causes of conditions.

22. (Q) Is there more that needs to be done about the teeth than has been done? (A) Not so much more needs to be done, than that as will be in the completing of those things already begun. But the corrections need to be made mainly in the coccyx, the sacral, the 9th dorsal and the brachial center, and the vagus center.

23. (Q) Is it necessary to go to the Still institution? (A) At Macon, Missouri. Charles Still. [C. E. Still?]

24. We are through for the present.

R1. 7/24/41 Letter to Dr. F. M. Still, Still-Hildreth Sanatorium, Macon, Missouri from Secretary to Mr. Cayce [GD?]: “Dear Dr. Still: Will you please send us some of your pamphlets and a catalog? I gave the last one this morning to a Mrs. […], …, Ala., who had a Reading from Mr. Cayce for her sister, Miss [2544]. The Reading referred her to Still-Hildreth for treatment. I hope the family will see their way clear to send her to you. She is in a very serious mental state resulting from an automobile accident three years ago which injured the coccyx. According to the Reading, osteopathy is the only hope for her recovery.

“Also can you give us the latest report on a Miss [1683] who was there for treatment sometime ago? Did her father take her away, or is she still with you? We’d like to know how long she remained at Still-Hildreth and what results were obtained.

“Is there a Dr. Charles Still? Mr. Cayce’s Reading for Miss [2544] gave in undertone, at the end, a name which sounded very much like Charles Still. I can’t find this name in the osteopathic directory.

“P.S. I think Dr. R. H. Still treated Miss [1683].”

R2. 7/29/41 GD’s note: Although Dr. F. M. Still wrote reporting on Miss [1683], he did not answer the question about Dr. Charles Still.

R3. 9/16/41 Sister’s report: ”…My brother - a physician - and my sister’s guardian would not consent to the osteopathic treatment for her - said he had made a number of x-rays of her spine and although he believed in osteopathy for some things he did not think that was the thing for her. But when I reached his home from N.C., he greeted me with the news that he had had a normal letter from her that day and that Mrs. […] had written that she had taken a sudden turn and was much better. I believe it was the releasing of God’s power through the volume of prayer that has gone up for her. I go to see her weekly and she continues to improve, so that I am planning to bring her here to my own home the first week in October.”

R4. 2/8/42 Niece’s letter [2543]: “P.S. My aunt [2544] is doing splendidly, is perfectly well.”

B1. 7/15/41 Extract from sister, Mrs. […] [[2543]‘s mother]‘s letter:

“Three years ago in August she was thrown away up in the air in an automobile accident and landed on the pavement sitting down. Both pelvic bones were broken. She was bruised so terribly her seat was purple for weeks. She was put in a body cast and the daughter, who is coming to you, and I cared for her for many months. She was a teacher of physical education in …, Ga., and was so anxious to return to her work that she went there for the spring term. But she could not use her body in her classes as she had always done; told me she would get before her class and would try to demonstrate a pivot with her foot and then could not raise her heel up, etc. She persisted day after day, thinking she could the next day, and was so conscientious that the doctors say she developed an inferiority complex which kept her from sleeping and eating. After several weeks she gave up and came back to me all nervous and broken up and went into what the doctors call melancholia. We sent her to a specialist in B’ham. He had her spine x-rayed several times, but they said they found nothing wrong - but I have always thought there was some pressure or some vertebrae jammed. For a long time after she was out of the cast she complained of a pain at the end of her spine, and she had a terrible lick on one of her shoulders.

“She is possessed first with one fear or delusion and then with another, and is enveloped in gloom. She gets better and then lapses back. Just now she thinks she has some contagious disease and because of her something terrible is going to happen to her loved ones.

“For the last nine months we have had her in a convalescent home in … She improved there for a while. Mrs. [2574] went with me twice to pray with her but she is much worse off now than in April when Mrs. [2574] was here. Recently she has complained of a sore mouth, so I had a dentist see her and he found her gums bad and some infected teeth. He has removed three. On my last visit to her she begged me to take her to Tuscaloosa, our State institution for the mental cases, you know.

“She is so sane about so many things we have hesitated to take her there, but they have fine doctors and I wish you would advise us.

“No one believes in prayer more than I do, and I shall pray with all my being that God will use you as a channel to release His power.”
