This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of December, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [257], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Hotel Jefferson, 10:15 to 10:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. St. Louis, Mo. (Enquiring mind. Review the case of the Paris Medicine Company thus far and give him the outlook as you see it, things to be warned of or advice to be given.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, [257]; and those conditions that are indicated from the activities thus far, in relationships to the Paris Medicine suit.

2. In reviewing the activities thus far we find that in the mind of the judge, the jury and even to the greater number of those in the defense counsel, there is felt there is a just claim by [257].

3. The manner in which the defense is handling same would indicate (by not calling Seely or having him present, or re-questioning [257] or Lande) that the attempt will be to act upon the law and base their claim (owing to the Missouri law) respecting contracts with litigants after decease; and that without the activities thus, the signed statements of [257] would be used as evidence against same.

4. These then are to be used as an attempt to have same dismissed.

5. Owing to the prestige of Reed with the judge and the courts, these as we find - with proper consideration - would not be allowed.

6. Then, there will be a rebuttal or a recall for activities that are to be presented by Orr and other members of the defense.

7. These as we find are the conditions that exist in the present.

8. As to the attempts to delay, then, owing to various moves - these of the surprise moves for dismissal and then necessity for delaying owing to the necessity of defense presenting other evidence not able to be presented just in the present. And the weight of the court and the attempts of the defense to present that owing to the whole of the law there is no case, will be the means for or attempts for delay.

9. During the delay we may expect the negotiations for settlements with other interests or influences - if there is the inability for dismissal on the grounds as defense presents.

10. In the body of [257], beware of meats that are rare. Keep those things as given.

11. We are through for the present.

“So far no offer! We’ve covered much ground - we feel we’ve gotten our case in.”

R2. 12/27/36 He wrote from N.Y.: “I got home Fri. night so dead tired that I stayed in bed for three days. It was the worst physical exhaustion I’ve ever undergone. I was on the stand fifteen hours. The jury was ‘out’ three days and finally were forced to bring in a verdict in our favor for 90,000 total. We felt we should have had the million also, so we will probably move to set aside the verdict and ask for a new [[Trial of Jesus|trial]]. Mrs. [189] is ill today or I'd have written a long letter covering the details to you, but she has the flu. What I can not understand is why we were not approached by the other side for a settlement. Will they still try to reach a settlement? If so, when? Why was the amt. of the verdict 90,000 instead of $750,000 that we expected for a settlement? Will a new trial be granted? Will we go to the Court of Appeals? What will the results be before three judges? Why do I have such a peculiar feeling about the appeal? The lawyers on our side are not pleased with the verdict. Are they right in their belief? What caused the jury to disregard the judge’s charge?” [He submitted other business questions.]
