This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of May, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [257], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Temple University Time of Reading Hospital, 11:15 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Philadelphia, Pa.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - five, one, two, - [257]; this we have had before. [Rm. 512?]

3. Many changes have taken place in the body since last we had same here.

4. These as we find in the present are progressing very satisfactorily.

5. While there are periods when there is a great deal of discomfort, do not come to rely too often upon narcotics for relief of the tension.

6. For some days yet there will be those tendencies for discomfort when the kidneys act, as well as during the latter portion of the periods between foods.

7. As to conditions internally, - these we find are producing coagulation and healing forces, and mending. There needs to be, and will need to be, those precautions of the body as to such exercises or activities that would tend to strain the body in any manner, or to produce inflammation - and thus make for the greater quantity of activity in scar tissue being formed, that would gradually adhere to some portion of the abdominal wall, or to some of the other organs themselves.

8. When there are the periods that the body may be a little active in the open, there should necessarily be worn an abdominal support, - but not of such a tightness or binding as to prevent proper circulation. However, the body will feel very much as if it were coming all to pieces. Have the support adjusted properly so that there will not be too much sagging in the lower abdominal areas.

9. And, unless there are other disturbances arising than as indicated in the immediate, the body should be relieved of those disturbances which have existed with same.

11. (Q) Why is the incision so slow in healing? (A) It is rather well that it is, under the existent condition! Coagulation is taking place properly from WITHIN, and working outward, rather than scabbing over or healing outwardly and leaving inflammation internally! This is very well, as it exists. Just don’t be over-anxious, nor produce irritations that would heal TOO quickly.

Have those properties in the foods or diet that aid in giving better coagulative forces in the body, - much more Vitamin B-1.

12. (Q) Why do eyes hurt? (A) This is a natural reaction from nerve flexes. A little massage back of the head and along the neck will materially aid this.

13. (Q) When is best time to start eliminating thru rectum? (A) This will depend entirely upon the manner of healing. This will be taken care of by those in authority here.

These are doing very well.

14. (Q) How soon may I get out? (A) This, too, will depend upon the manner of healing and as to how well it is accomplished. As long as there is external inflammation and lack of proper healing, don’t be too anxious about moving about. But as soon as it is practical, and under the protection or direction of those in charge, be in the open as much as possible.

15. (Q) Any advice regarding the diet? (A) This is very well taken care of. As indicated, we would find it necessary to add more of B-1, especially.

16. (Q) Considering the condition from the inside, was the operation successful? (A) Successful.

17. (Q) When ready to go home, is it best to go by train or car? (A) This will depend entirely upon how soon this is undertaken, and the conditions that develop between now and the next two weeks - or three weeks.

18. (Q) Any special warnings? (A) Only as indicated.

19. (Q) May the body have any liqueurs or light wines?

(A) These should come along a little bit later, the light wines - but not liqueurs.

20. (Q) Any other advice? (A) Do these in the present, as we find the better manner.

R1. 5/9/40 He wrote: “Tonight is my first night’s desire to drop a note to anyone. I’ve not even had a pencil in my hand. So to you goes the first message. It seems that all good news I get, I think of you first, and with bad news the same. There is no phase of my life in which you’ve not been closely and intimately connected since I was 15 yrs. old. At home, at war, return to business - there was never a day when you did not appear in some conversation or have some part in the day’s activity. God willed it, and you’ve been willing to be pulled all over the country to meet all kinds of people. But all problems prove themselves finally. Our proof is the vast number of friendships which have developed from your service to God and man.

“As to myself. Mother [325] appeared to me [in dream] in heavy mourning on Sat. a.m., with my father. Her skin was lovely. She was very young. Seemed satisfied with me and I judged she was happy because I acted in time, when my father didn’t. [GD’s note: Both his mother and father died of cancer.]

“I had terrible pains all day Sat. and Sun., night and day. A large abscess formed under my muscle, just below the wound. The doctor took out two stitches, put his finger on it, and over 2 ozs. of pus came out. Since then I got better and it is almost clear today; hence I phoned you Sun. I did not know why the pain, and seeing Mother, etc. Today I read the rdg. to the doctor. He is amazed at two things: One, you mention inflammation and healing slowly from inside; second, you mention my being here 2-3 wks. The doctor told me yesterday it would be at least 2 wks. yet. At first you said 3, and so did he. They are anxious to meet you and I hope you will come after I am up, and maybe next week-end. See what day next week you might have open.

“Well, you know by now what Mother tried to warn me of, no doubt! I almost went to pieces today when I learned of the tragic accident to little [1638]. My sister [460] has had so much to bear since a child, and now this calamity. Words fail me. They have tried to spare me, but I dug it out. [903] was worried that I felt I would not get well. I was running a fever 4 days, great pain, and Mother’s appearance. So she had to tell me. Now I must see [460], so I must get help from you…the beautiful way and manner of bringing consolation to [460]… Pardon this letter, but I had to write it, even if it breaks my arm.”

R2. 5/28/40 He wrote: “Five wks. ago today at this hr. I was, for my first experience, under a knife - and remained there for 2 hr. plus. Today I am up at the desk for a while to write you my first letter from home. Since April 19th when I entered the hospital, I said I liked rainy, dark days and a good bed. I’ve had plenty of both, as it has been rainy and bleak since the 19th and still is today…

“Every doctor and each student of the Senior Class knows all about you and they each await your visit to the hospital. Dr. Babcock and Dr. Large both are anxious to meet you. Dr. Babcock is the head of the teaching staff of Temple University as well as chief of the hospital - 33 yrs. with the hospital - 69 yrs. old - a wonderful man. You can imagine my surprise at Dr. Babcock asking me questions about you for one and a half hours while he was operating the second time. I had not mentioned you to him. I told Dr. Large about you. Dr. Large told Dr. Babcock, and Dr. Babcock told the students and internes at a lecture. Then they began to visit me. I didn’t have a dull moment in five wks…

“The wound is healing from inside, it seems very firm. It is still open. I hope the stitches in the colon hold. They broke 3 times. The tissue is very thin. If it holds another several days I believe it will allow the outside to heal. I’ll make out a list of questions…”
