1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [2598], NYC., who seeks information, advise and guidance as to the proper procedure to follow in regard to her country place, Little Paradise. Should she rent to present applicants or hold for sale? Would property be injured if she waits? Please give any information that might be helpful to the entity at this time.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [2598].

3. As we find, in considering the present conditions, the status of general outlook, there are many things to be considered. But as we find, if there is reserved the right of sale in two or three years, then it would be advisable to rent to the present applicant. For, after or during that period would be the most advantageous time for the disposal of same - owing to general circumstances as may arise in the experience of all concerned.

4. The changes apparently necessary to be made would be done only under the consideration that the lessor would have that advantage for the usage of same of two or three years. Otherwise it would not be advisable for those changes.

5. But in the present by the sale of same there may not be obtained as great a material advantage, or by the investment from the sale of same. Both would be in better position after that period.

6. Lease, then, to the applicant.

7. Ready for questions.

Dear Miss [2598]

Hope you found the information of interest, reasonable and that it will all work out to your best interest and to the good of all.

Has always been a question in my mind as to such readings, yet feel for those who understand spiritual values it may be well but for those who would use such in taking advantage of some one else, then would be another question, so it is not always easy to say when and when to say NO for such, but believing your purpose only for the greater good of all, we undertook it.

Hope all works well, will be glad to hear from you as regards same and with all good wishes.

R2. 4/10/42 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

Don’t think your communication was vain. It settled my question so directly it left me no cause for doubt.

I called the agent & she told me that sales transactions for signatures were all together & generally it appears to be a bad tactic to hold out. Your letter it was which decided me to call her back so for two years at $10.00 an acre Little Paradise will be off my hands. I know from my point of view that I did the proper thing in asking you. I chose the hour because that was the one on your previous reading.

Now I feel that beyond questions of doubt I have done the really right thing. Little Paradise has never been to me what the name implies. When Mother lived I had most of the responsibility with no authority. Since then its care has been mostly joyless, save for actual work in the grounds the peace of the river & my beloved trees.

I went through practically the same procedures as when you first read. If anything is too small to ask twice undoubtly is too small to approach reverently. Then too probably this 6 or 7 week cold will leave us.

You are very good - believe me had this not been a chronic & despairing problem, I would have hesitated to ask you even once.

I am trying to do my duty as Air Raid Warden. It is really very dull work.

R3. 4/10/42 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Your welcome letter was received this morning and may answer truthfully that never under any circumstances would I seek a means of “out doing” some one unfairly or try to obtain more than I believe my just dues. In no case would I wish this to happen and even less through spiritual means.

I do not consider those I am transacting business with to have the same ideas as myself. They tried to strike a bargain in which all the advantages were on their side, save the single one of serving as caretakers. Today thieves steal plumbing and glass and this house has to have heat or the walls sweat.

I appreciate your confidence in the integrity of my intention when I appealed to you. As before, at a certain time I went to sleep. The read was so very clear and because it came from a spiritual source it made my decision a happy one.

I have tried to persuade others to go to you about mental and physical things and once on such a question as mine but am very glad this last did not respond. I have a cousin who should receive infinite help of you but doctors and fears have her in their grip. I do not know what the gentle creature has done to win this karma but of all I know she is the most fear ridden, the most anxious. I specially pray that in your sleep your power may grow and your knowledge increase.

Oh, I want to say about the theatre question I believe that so far it has not materialized because I have had this O C D work to do and of course country comes first but after a certain while I do think it will be brought to me. Any how I can have it on my return to earth.

You have my deepest thanks and have no doubt that I shall ever appeal to you save with a clear conscience.

I am hoping that one of these days I may get to Virginia Beach.

Dear Miss [2598]

Thank you for both your letters of the 10th. Glad you were pleased with the information, appreciate your attitude toward the information, as very sure every one could not get information of that nature and is why we are inclined to refuse to even undertake it at times.

Hope all works out well for you and as you say is very well to have the matter well in hand for at least two years.

Do hope you may plan to come to the Congress this year are we able to have same.

Conditions are such one never knows what may be in store a few months away.

R5. 5/4/42 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

Mr. Reilly told me that this past month has been in some respects difficult for you.

I only hope our prayers have done much to make the Spring happier. I pray that during your night’s sleep the forces of strength, power, clairvoyance, regeneration & peace may become a part of you. You do wonderful work. Again thank you for advice on renting the place. To me there is nothing to small or too large to go to God about & please know that I approach the mundane questions with the same reverence I give to the Spiritual. As Blavatsky says “Matter is the lowest form of Spirit, a Spirit is the highest form of Matter”.

I am sorry I did not receive the notice sooner on your book but please find enclosed the dollar for it.

You are certainly a gracious person answering the letters. You have no need to do AND feel you ever have to answer mine - although news of yours is always a pleasure to receive.

I saw Little Paradise again & I think most of the Little People have gone & those remaining are discouraged for many trees have died, the river has carried off earth & every thing is sad despite the spring buds.

No one LOVES them you see.

Dear Miss [2598]

Thank you for yours of the 4th - with the order for the Book “A Search for God”. Believe you will find this worth you while, trust so and believe you will read parts of same often.

Appreciate your interest, and is as little as can do to express a word of appreciation. Am feeling fairly well again, spent a day in the wilds yesterday. My there were many of the little folks glad to see me - tho the association at the time would have been shocked had they felt that I was communing with the little folks.

Hope you are fine - sorry to hear any place has been deprived of the company of the little folks, but many are so material minded they lose the contact with that as might help.

Thanks again - sent order on and am sure you will hear from the book Secy, soon as the books are off the press.

Dear Mr. Cayce

Certainly the Little People have been here. I have had several (2 of which recent) remarkable demonstrations.

This is to say I should be only too glad to join in the 15 min. prayer on them!

I hate to bear to ask for another letter with the prayer and lessons have searched & searched for the one received. How glad every one should be to assist in this. Please forgive me for being a bother. If you know anyone likely to locate the diamond ring I lost in this apartment OFF my finger will you tell me. I saw it on my finger, about 3 months later it was gone. It is good for our troubled earth to have you here. Cordially yours [2598]

Dear Miss. [2598]

Have yours of the 12th. Sorry I haven’t a single one of the letters sent out left - except on that was messed up on the mimeograph. Possibly will help you - but keep the period with us at 10.30 E.W.T. on the morning of the 19th of June.

Glad you have had some lovely experiences with the “little folks.” Hope you will be able to locate that as lost.

Wish were possible for you to be with us this series of meetings, hope you may make it another time.

Dear Mr. Cayce

What a splendid force that concentrated prayer must have made.

You have a great deal of patience with me & I APPRECIATE it. As a matter of fact I found the first prayer you sent me. The reason why I asked for the second was that I was afraid it was gone for good and I would not have it in time. About the ring - it was lying OUTSIDE on the window sill. I had been there several times & eventually saw it winking up at me. How did it get there!!

I went to the library to read up on Barbara Fritchie whom your reading [See 2598-2] gave as myself. There are certainly things in common. Maybe her love of growing things & the definite belief that there is nothing in being decorated for doing one’s duty. I do not go as far as she does because I apply this only to myself. Honour medals are inspirational & encouragement to others beside the recipient. Washington drank tea from her tea pot. She was a very simple girl of German parentage.

I too have German descent on my side, but not as near as grandparents. She died at the age of 96. She married Fritchie a tanner but never had children.

I did not walk in the parade last Saturday. Isn’t God good to me to put me in the mercy activities of this war. I heard a man say, who knew a high German official that 500 workers were waiting for the word to come over but - we shall see what we shall see - neither shall any harm come nigh my dwelling.

Dear Miss [2598]

Thank you for yours of the 20th. Hope you caught something of the spirit of inspiration that was manifested here at the meeting on the morning of the 19th - only wish you might have been with us.

Am very happy to know you found the ring - that as really belongs to us we do not lose, or the information says “We cannot lose that as really belongs to us”.

Believe you will as practically every one else, find much food for thought every time you read over your Life reading.

Enclosed is a donation for your work. It has been a long time since I have written you a personal letter but whether I do or not many thanks & blessings to your stream forth. For years I have tried to make a cousin of mine go to you & I understand that she has at last written. WHY do people in this country have to wait for a blast of trumpets before believing there is a procession going by. The River is a wonderful book but I am glad that I did not wait to be advised by you.

AND to record you as a lovely soul. Several times I have thought of asking for another reading but I know that too many anxious people are waiting to be told are really serious troubles. At any rate it is a comfort to know you are with us in this muddled world. What of your boys? …? Yours with very many heart feelings.

Please pardon me for seeming neglect in not replying to your letter of February 19th much sooner.

I appreciate more than I can tell you, your interest and your desire to help us out here with the sponsorship work. These contributions from our friends will give me great help in our work with others.

We are still keeping very, very busy. For the last few weeks, I have been out of the running, in fact, been ill myself. Was in New York a few days for treatments. Wish I might have seen you, yet I was not able to talk to anyone and finally had to be brought home not much better. I hope we will soon be able to carry on properly.

R14. 6/22/44 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

A note to let you know that you remain in my heart because you are you & not because you are being personally useful.

Your work is wonderful. I read the “letters” [6/44 A.R.E. Bulletin] with keen appreciation. May God or the inward being of your soul, protect him from physical mental & spiritual harm. You must be a great influence in the fighting forces.

I am still waiting to catch a glimpse of the Little People through physical eyes. (By the way am following the eye exercise prescribed in one the the “letters”.) I am very distressed over their unhappy state due to this raging hate & battle. They are brave little folk to make the effort to steady this earthly way. This is enough for now. I only intended the “word” I spoke of. Thank you for All the work you have done & are doing.

Dear Miss [2598]

It is mighty nice to hear from you again for I think about you real often.

I wish it had been possible for you to have been with us at the Congress. It has been going on almost ever since. Quite a number of people were here. You don’t like to get out of town. Do you? You ought to come to Virginia Beach sometime. I think you would like it.

Traveling was hard I know, but we had people from more than half of the states in the union. They were here from Seattle, Washington, to Portland, Maine and from Hollywood, California to Hollywood, Florida and from many places in between.

Thank you. Don’t forget me when you pray. We are working very hard, but we are trying our best to be the means of a service in the Master’s Name.

R16. 7/26/44 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

First of all thank you for your letter. I appreciate TREMENDOUSLY the time you robbed of rest in order to write it.

For sometimes I have been wanting to ask for help but hesitated because of your burden. Now it has occurred to me that if you can give no times perhaps advice may be sent by way of one of the “letters”.

My teeth have been mended & treated so far as the D.D.

is able but two remain loose & hurt constantly. I am afraid of losing them so what am I to do? Enclosed is five dollars anyway. If you give a reading please send me another price list. Unfortunately the papers I pay particular attention to serve to escape me. I am still looking forward to seeing you at Virginia Beach some day. By the way the dentist has seen the faeries flitting about, a delightful point about him.

I am sure Hugh Lynn is safe but I wonder if YOU can call upon the force as often as you would like.

Dear Miss [2598]

In consideration for my health, I have been forced to take an extended period for rest. Consequently many cancellations have been necessary, which is causing some confusion. However, if you would like me to put you down for a definite period for a check-physical, let me know.

In the mean time, I suggest that you write to Mr. Marsden Godfrey, 2709 Lafayette Blvd., Norfolk, Va. for a bottle of “Ipsab.” Massage your gums with this each night before retiring. The readings have given this repeatedly for the condition you describe.

We hear from Hugh Lynn two or three times a week, but naturally look forward to his return home.

Let us hear from you when you have time.

R18. 8/21/44 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

Your generous letter arrived an hour or so ago. To begin with I am relieved to know you are to have a rest, so greatly needed.

Your offer to help me is so wonderful & appreciated for beyond the simple words of thanks you see before you.

I accept your offer with a grateful heart under one condition. This is that you first have a breathing space & relaxation. Eager though I am for a reading it would only made me unhappy to have it at further cost to your health so PLEASE rest first. I was in pain without surcease for three months so surely I can endure some for longer. Enclosed is a check which bears very little resemblance in worth to my gratitude when you are ready. I shall be. I wrote you believe the good, the “Letter” did me. I follow instructions. There is no pain throbbing in my teeth now, but they do hesitate about taking hold.

Your reading for general health will be of inestimable value. The summer has not been delightful, but it is good to know that beauty reigns whether we have the ability to appreciate it or not.

I am glad you hear so often from Hugh Lynn.

Dear Mr. Cayce -

First, are you really resting & having a good time? It is time others thought of you. I am leaving in the A.M. for Middleburg. It is very beautiful in Vermont now & a change will do me good though it is not for pleasure I am going.

The special purpose of this note is to tell you of my teeth since you were kind enough to recommend Ipsab.

I have only had it a few days but the dentist told me this morning that one tooth is already considerably tightened - of course the other will be too. So, I was going to say - many thanks, but I believe what I feel is a solid ONE.

R20. 10/10/44 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce;

A VERY nice card from Miss Davis this A.M. The good news that you are improving was joy to my heart. I think of you so often & of your utter unselfishness. You surely need the prayer & the care from others now. Miss Davis’ idea is much the same as mine that this retirement of yours is more for our sake than for yours.

There comes a time when we SHOULD not say “Let George do the work,” as the adage has it.

My teeth seem better from Ipsab use, but they still wobble. I was horrified to hear one of mine squish when I bit on it in the night. To off set this, I have been of great use to my cousin whose wife committed suicide in August - I spent over 3 weeks in Vermont - making his apartment look like a home - which it most certainly didn’t - in that time to do every possible thing in every possible way, to lift his burden. He is nearly 40 & this is his first trouble so you see that with an academic mind he is still extremely young, without much philosophy. He told me I gave him courage. More than ever I know how exhaustion may be an illness of itself.

The “A R & E” letters are extremely helpful. Painters are to come in day after tomorrow which though upsetting is a good thing by which to urge me on to a fundamental housecleaning - washed shades, clean pillow slips on the sofa, discarded ornaments & trifles & clothes for our kindergarten thrift shoppers. Curious how a pebble can cause so wide a ripple. My window vines have disappeared for the season. Although I know that a nation as well as an individual attracts its own Karma, I am quite disturbed regarding the fate of America in the coming years [See [3976] series]. Where is our faith, where’s our integrity? Here is a little joke. Arthritis said to Rheumatism, “Come on, lets go to another joint”. I sent you my love & to God my thanks for putting you here & so close with one last INSTRUCTION. DO NOT answer this letter, it means just another burden. Hear?

R21. 11/15/44 Mrs. [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce -

I know you must be getting better, but how fast I do not know. The end of a quotation comes to mind - “that the righteous shall not perish from the earth.”

I worked very hard at election even to counting votes. The outcome has depressed me greatly but my prayer was answered - that the best man for the soul of America should win. Nothing that falls stops until it reaches bottom & our beloved country must strike bottom before it can rise again in purity & unselfishness.

I do not mind the ignorant but when the erstwhile president of a girls college tells me it is perfectly all right to break a constitutional oath & to discard friends who are in the way my very spirit weeps.

My teeth are better & I have another bottle of Ipsab. The dentist said that one tooth has chronic pyorrhea but God knows of nothing chronic but good. Your “letter” [Weekly Readings Extracts] comes every week. The Air Raid Service has not been discontinued here & tonight there is to be a zone meeting. They say there is danger of robots from submarines. I love the continuous of warm weather.

Please take care of yourself & do NOT burden yourself with an answer to this. When you are perfectly recovered will be time enough.

R22. 11/21/44 Miss [2598]‘s letter to Marsden Godfrey:

Dear Mr. Marsden Godfrey

Unless it is presumption on my part, I would like to ask you a question. The dentist told me today that one tooth has chronic pyorrhea. The jaw bone (part of it) is missing now & the roots of the tooth catch food much I am unable to thoroughly eliminate. Since your Ipsab had been so remarkable I wonder if you have something to overcome the other condition. He wants to remove the tooth as soon as possible but I will await your reply - for or against. In the beginning if I recall exactly there was another tooth now about tight that he thought of taking out. I know that he has done his best.

No word from Mr. Cayce but then told him not to answer; it is very trying on a sick person.

Did you receive the little bottle I returned to you?

I trust Thanksgiving will mean everything it should to you in every way.

R23. 12/11/44 Miss [2598]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce -

May the inundating Spirit of Christmas draw away from you all your fatigue & other ills. I would love to know that you for one will have a completely happy day.

It is right to keep you posted as to my teeth, which are now on their own, so to speak. The dentist has finished after having to lose a second tooth. He says that some of both jaw bones is gone & that all the bone is soft.

Enough - this is just a report. I am going to have a physical check up in the near future. I think my eyes need it badly & then some day when you are well I shall accept your offer to read for me. How generous that was of you, with people after you like a pack of hounds & you too exhausted, almost, to even think. Let me tell you this, when I think of you I am refreshed.

Surely your God-side is powerful. I get imaginations of possibilities & I think of God & you & I am sure that it is nerves, nothing else.

Separate from this letter I shall send you a little Xmas card to be added to your thousands. It would interest me to learn how many you receive.

When you feel brisk & jaunty again I will love hearing from you, but friendship must include understanding & I know you must save your strength for important correspondence.

Dear Miss [2598]:

At the July 10th meeting of the Executive Committee, the work of the regional representatives was discussed in some detail.

In many ways, the development of the Association services and the extension of its educational program depend upon the work of the regional representative.

As I have tried to outline in the enclosed memorandum, the activities of the regional representatives differ according to the special interest of the individual and the time he can devote to it. There are no requirements and no obligations involved except those assumed by the individual and which he sets for himself.

I am writing you personally about this phase of the work because the Executive Committee and I feel that the interest you have expressed indicates your cooperativeness and because we feel that you can be of great help in developing the Association program and in guiding its policies and activities in your community.

We would like for you to become an official representative of the Association. Please give this matter prayerful consideration and let me hear from you about it.

I want to assure you of my whole-hearted cooperation.

Dear Mr. Hugh Lynn -

This entire letter should be one of apology indeed if you will read between the lines you may find it is. When your came I was away & it was not forwarded. I returned because I was sick then I was so wretched I wrote only impersonal letters.

These excuses are poor because rudeness is hard to explain. In regard to your suggestions that I awaken interest in the Cayce cause I can only say that I should willingly do so but I can’t get any one to stir in any direction save their own.

I have talked & talked, it does no good. I have spoken from personal experience! The case of Hives over again. My own interest remains, that would have gone without saying save for the deplorable hiatus between your letter and this which would seen to indicate otherwise.

May all good come to the Association, to you & yours, & with this hope I remain

Dear Mrs. [2598]

I was very happy to get your note of October 29, as I had become a little worried and wondered if you were ill. I am glad this is not so. Thank you very much for your expression of interest in the Association activities.

I expect to be in New York between October 19 and 26 and I hope I will have the opportunity of meeting and talking with you at that time. I will be with Mr. and Mrs. David E. Kahn on East 80th Street and I will appreciate it if you will reach me by telephone, as I do not have your telephone number, and it may be difficult to get in touch with you. Or if you prefer, let me have a card with your telephone number on it and I will call you when I reach New York.

R27. GD’s note: A casual reader of this case material might wonder why such a voluminous amount of correspondence is included. In the midst of apparently irrelevant subject matter she will inject pertinent remarks which need to be on record. Then, too, her Life Reading [2598-2] said she should (and could) write. I think this mass of correspondence will show that she could express herself in writing; it also will show, I believe, that she found it to be a helpful outlet.

Miss [2598] New York, N.Y.

Dear Miss [2598]:

It was certainly a pleasure to have the opportunity of seeing and talking with you in New York. I want to thank you again for the little present for Tommy. His joy in receiving it and the fun he’s had in building houses (he is in the lumber business right now) has well compensated the little difficulty in getting it into my suitcase.

We are checking through our files and are attempting to bring our reports up-to-date. Enclosed you will find a report blank which we would appreciate your filling out and returning to us, covering your physical reading. Also I wish you would make a note to let us have a letter on your life reading, telling us in your own words just how accurate it was in analyzing your personality and characteristics, and also how useful you have found the suggestions and philosophy contained in the reading. You can understand how important these reports are.

Gladys has told me how generous and helpful you have been through the period of difficulties during my father’s illness and periods following both his and mother’s death. Your credit is A-1 with us and we will be glad to continue the literature covered by an active membership. However, to bring our records up-to-date we would like to have from you a regular membership blank indicating your particular interest as follow closely these records in designing our publication program. We are attempting to work out our membership program on a definite schedule and will begin to try to notify members when their active membership expires. If you feel that you can renew your active membership as of January 1, it will be of tremendous help to us.

The exact questionnaire. Regarding the stage why am I always prevented from going on with my acting whenever the opportunity presents itself.

A - Because as has been indicated the abilities may be better expressed, better manifested in that thou mayest write. Think it not a hardship! … make it a living purpose. End.

Frankly then I draw the conclusion that it is better for my Soul not to leave the stage though it has, (doing with so little of it) wrecked my happiness & frequently my health. I can not write a word unless prompted by inner feeling of which I have been utterly bereft for many many years.

I have given it up & as it was all too exhausted from childhood’s struggle on to much care any more. At times I have pangs usually roused by a good play well done. Nothing can or has fulfilled me though my prayer & since I can remember is I want the stage more than anything in the world. Some spiritual growth, to tell the truth, I can’t see that I am particularly spiritual, only an effort and an almost continuous desire to be so. Now adays I make almost no prayers save a hundred times a day I reckon, Thank you dear God for everything. All the same I am not happy, only peaceful from exhausted & exhausting desire because I CAN act well. I say this from inner connection & the effect on my audiences.

I have done many things widely different because I feel I have no right not to help encourage & UNDERSTAND others in their hopes & wishes & sufferings.

This will shock you but there is no delight to me in doing the right thing. It is just a spiritual chore when I do.

I don’t want that Great Power to be hurt more than need be. As God is ALL happiness & sorrow I want to help keep a little of the latter away. My efforts are not too gracious I am afraid. What do you think.

Dear Mr. Hugh Lynn

Fortune has not favored me in regard to meetings. Once the first time I do not want to go. For the rest I was either sick or away - Better luck next time!

Do you mind very much if I comment on the readings [Weekly Readings Extracts] which have been coming lately. Several people have commented adversely on them and I too, agree with them.

They are interesting from one point of view but on the whole they are mostly personal to one person with no particular aid to readers. The chief objection is that every body was previously of very high estate. I know it is not so but it looks somewhat like fortune tellers readings. Those to whom I have spoken & I too believe it would sustain interest if occasionally the person had a lowly beginning not all to do with courts, Kings & titles. I know that such are much more apt to take interest in the Association in this incarnation. All the same there must be people who comes of lowly birth or at least middle class. Speaking personally I should like to read of some one thus born. I tell these friends of mine that my last was as just a simple nobody of the people.

Questions & answers lately are not particularly satisfactory on the whole. My interest will always continue but I am not sure of others. I have intended writing to you on the subject for some time. If others, the greater number, prefer the readings as they are just disregard this letter.

Dear Mr. Hugh Lynn

The last of the month is an appropriate time I think to express a genuine feeling of delight and rest and (at least a portion) of accepted fascinating instruction.

Some I suppose through the law of averages has not been digested but certainly enough to be a support.

More even than the actual studies, the atmosphere of these past July days has been absorbed. The people, the PEOPLE who took part in the congress contributed not little by their attitude to the spiritual help expended. We each one, I fancy each in his own way absorbed the spirit from the group. There was not a ripple of evil feeling among 73 or was it 75 in attendance?

As the days pass more and more of the QUALITY of that congress enters into my being which reminds me of a Presbyterian who told me and others of going to a church congress. The great question before the assembled board and members was the question of infant baptism and whether a child should be doomed who had not been baptized. It was finally decided that it should not be.

At this, this woman said, a thin high voice of a very old man was heard, “I vote that this be retroactive.”

I imagine my experience will be very retroactive.

Your lectures were absolutely absorbing not only in matter but in presentation in clarity and in English. If I were to write down what they said of you (even as good as you are) I fear you would yield to the sin of vanity.

I gave up the morning talks because I found that the hour put a strain on me which I felt all day and blurred the other talks.

From childhood even when I had to go to school the rising was always punishment. In nursing and in theatrical life the morning was ever a torture. It was heavenly to sit on the porches or under the trees.

I have just come in after stopping at the Gateway where I found that good looking, attractive boy, young Kahn David E. Kahn]. He was interested in hearing about the convention.

You do open doors when you say that suggestions are welcome but here is one. If after 2 months say, you neither hear from nor receive dues couldn’t you drop them; first advising them the fact that the following weekly news will be discontinued unless they are heard from? Two months and then a warning should bring results of a definite understanding. It is not entirely fair to you or to the organization to have an expense continued for those who are not interested.

Another thing which struck me and over which I do not ceased to wonder and admire is the fact that you and your board kept your financial worries to yourselves. Usually in pulpit or platform the speaker can scarcely wait to howl for money but not you. No one’s enjoyment of the week was interfered with by so much as a hint of difficulties. The lady who told me, I am sure did so with no ulterior motive or thought of asking help from me. Indeed I am so impressed with you all’s attitude that having first made certain that I can contribute I am enclosing a check which I wish were larger. You need not mention my name either.

“Please conclude your letter” I can almost hear you think (you would not) but just this one thing more. Our superintendent told me a tale which I have written up for him to sign if he is willing. You asked for incidents relating to the Invisibles. He must have gone away today as no one can find him but when I do I will forward it to you. It happened in temporary.

Thank you for your recent note and the copy of the Emmet Fox article as well as “This Happened to Me.”

The Fox material is extremely interesting to me right now, for, as you know, we have been stressing in our group work the study of “A Search For God” which is actually a detailed method of changing one’s ways of thinking and establishing new attitudes by daily meditation and application of the information in the various lessons given in that little book. If we could get out groups to realize the importance of this changing in attitudes and ways of thinking, we could really perform a revolutionary task.

“This Happened to Me” is a good example of the subconscious being on guard and telepathically or clairvoyantly aware of danger. There are a great many such examples recorded in the annuals of psychical research. This is an interesting one and I appreciate having it.

Thank you very much for your recent notes and the stories which you have been sending. They are extremely interesting. We haven’t received the copy of “Mr. Littlejohn” as yet but look forward to having it.

It was thoughtful of you to remember Gregory. I am sure he will be a sweeter and cleaner little baby for your thoughtfulness.

I must tell you a story regarding Dr. Rolf. I am sure that if you have seen her, she has probably related it herself. I have wished many times that you could have been with us for this particular adventure. Dr. Rolf, Dick and I went out for a sail on Linkhorn Bay. It was a beautiful day, but shortly after we had gotten out in the middle of the Bay, the wind began to die down. A rainstorm came up and it rained in torrents. Of course, all of us were soaked. Dick and Dr. Rolf were properly clothed in bathing suits for the occasion. I was not. In the course of the sailing, we ran up on a shallow point in the Bay. Dr. Rolf got out to push the boat and a puff of wind suddenly came along and blew the boat off into the middle of the Bay. It left Dr. Rolf standing in the rain, right in what looked like the exact center of Linkhorn Bay, waving her arms and hollering for us to come back for her. Dick and I both laughed heartily, and I think you would have also if you had been along.

I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know her better and do hope that the suggestions which we have discussed will prove helpful for Dick. As you say, she is a very fine person and we are deeply indebted to you for introducing her to the work.

I think you are quite right about the WRE’s. We are going to make a change in them completely about the first of October and I believe you will like the change very much.

Dear Hugh Lynn,

In a few days, shall send you true tales of psychic experiences of Namce [Nancy?] O’Neil. I can not impress you too firmly with the important of not permitting any of them or any part of them being published in any form. They are excepts from the book she is writing, of her own life. Between you and me it has been very difficult to assort the facts in orderly array the story which I have entitled Logic - Resistant I have with the copy to be sent you, written 5 times.

The experiences themselves and the descriptions are entirely hers however and I am more than grateful for her generosity in permitting me to send them to the Association. I have promised her that they will not be used in any other way for any other purpose. You will have to excuse the typing as it is not my forte. I received a sweet letter from Sally. It must have been a disappointment to receive a bib rather than a two piece suit, however, that will be sent when cold weather arrives.

Dr. Rolf had a glorious time she tells me. I wish I could have been with her. I am overcome with mortification at the way I expressed myself in my last letter to you. I did NOT mean that the facts of the daily letter were uninteresting but that they were badly compiled.

Recommendations for cures for example are usually definitely for one person. Dr. Rolf gave me the advice on Almonds which I took and consequently have seen the disappearance of one growth and am watching others disappear. She says the pageant of which you wrote me, was marvelous. I am looking forward to at least a glimpse of you during the coming season. By rights I should claim you willy-nilly for dinner. I do know however that you are frightfully rushed when you come. May the work prosper. My best to you.

Thank you very much for your notes and card, and the copies of the interesting psychic stories which you have been sending me. You can be sure that we will make no public use of them. They are extremely helpful for comparative study when anyone is interested in that particular line of thought and needs examples to be put into conversation or to back up an illustration.

I wish you could have been with us while Dr. Rolf was here, particularly for the sailing experience in the bay.

I note with great interest your reference to the growths and the results of eating the almonds. Do keep a record of this and keep us posted, for the results of these experiments in individual cases are extremely important.

You will be glad to know that we are making some drastic, and what I believe will be very constructive, changes in our whole publication setup within the near future. I believe you will enjoy the publications much better from that point on. I will let you know more about this a little later.

I have no definite plans yet for coming up this fall but shall certainly get in touch with you when I do. We are working hard here now on the Foundation Program and are making some real progress.

You receive my thought for strength every day I am as sure that your gift already so perfected, is still more so.

I trust that Easter will bring you the many beautiful Easter blossomings of which it is so bountiful.

Because in large and small I feel the word of God. I asked you about Little Paradise.

The question or the worth of it amounts to more than dollars & cents. The burden of the place is growing very heavy to bear. For years I have kept it going. To me it isn’t worth the money it brings in rent, nor the weight upon my mind. Personally I am not much concerned with the furnishings some of which are very lovely.

My son shares no responsibility, financial or moral. It is his place & I have a life interest!!! I’ve tried for his sake.

If there were any way I could staff it temporarily & take time in selling it is possible my lightness have been more direct. I agreed we have troubled you. I have prayed over it. God as always, is very good but I suppose there comes times to each of us when we need more human help, no matter what our faith. The questions are few really & are in the telegram. This man who wants the place is unwilling to give me or allow me a sales clause though I offered one year with & one year without as a 50-50 arrangement.

I have no doubt at all as to his financial status with 3 cars & 5 servants & the willingness to pay 3 months in advance & $600 to paid inside.

No matter how rich a person is I do not want to overcharge but I believe in fair play. I can not afford to live there - whatever the outcome.
