This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 8th day of January, 1933, in accordance with request made by the family, including the daughter Mrs. [538], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]

Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky. (Physical Suggestion)

  1. EC: Yes, we have the body and these conditions that disturb the body in the present, Mrs. [265]; this we have had before.

  2. As we find, conditions are rather serious as to the inflammation of the membranes and the gradual using up of the strength and vitality of the body.

  3. While the poisons in system are the primary cause of the pressure, which produces or causes the tendencies for the cough, the inflammation produced by cold and congestion is the contributory cause that, added to that which is the primary cause, makes for the continued over-acidity in system; producing, then, the continued using up of strength and vitality, thus impoverishing the circulation of the resistance that might be builded.

  4. In the present we would find that the better applications would be to use the Alcaroid as a digestant and as an eliminator of the acid in the system, used with the Caroid and Bile Salts as an eliminant and as an active force with the liver and digestive system.

  5. The Alcaroid should be used about every three hours, level teaspoonful dissolved and taken with a glass to a glass and a half of water.

  6. The Bile Salts and Caroid would be taken two tablets twice each day, until there is the full activity from the liver and intestinal tract.

  7. For the irritation in throat, and as an expectorant - also to allay the inflammation in the muco-membranes of throat, bronchi, and to act better with the digestive system, make or prepare as this:

  8. Take horehound about 4 ounces and reduce in 8 ounces of water to half the quantity.

  9. To this add:

Simple Syrup…1 1/2 ounces, Glycerine…20 minims, Oil of Pine Needles…10 minims, Spirits Frumenti, about…4 ounces.

  1. This should be shaken together and taken a teaspoonful every one and a half to two hours, or when necessary to allay the cough and irritation.

  2. It would be well that there be counter-irritations more to the feet and lower limbs, than to the upper portion of body.

  3. If the body will respond to these applications, we will find better conditions for the body.

  4. In the diet we would only use those foods that are almost entirely pre-digested; as beef juices, dry milk, and a little eggnog. It is better that these be taken in small quantities and often, than any heavy or solid foods, until the system responds.

  5. Ready for questions.

  6. (Q) What counter-irritant would you suggest to use for feet and lower limbs? (A) Spirits of Turpentine, Spirits of Camphor and Mutton Tallow about equal parts, but keep them hot; and when rubbed on soles of feet and lower limbs it would be well that they be wrapped in hot towels, hot cloths or blankets.

  7. (Q) Is Alcaroid a preparation that may be purchased prepared? (A) It is prepared by the same people who make the Caroid and Bile Salts, or The American Ferment Company. It is in powder, you see A-l-c-a-r-o-i-d.

  8. (Q) Can this be purchased in […] [Ky.]? (A) At any drug store who has it.

  9. (Q) Anything to do for weakness, especially? (A) You see, this is added in the stimuli that is to be given both in food and in the expectorant; also in the counter-irritation for the throat. The active principles in that given, you see, are for stimulating the kidneys, also for diminishing the irritation in the bronchi and throat.

  10. (Q) Is there any cause for immediate danger? (A) Unless the body responds, it must go into either the breaking of the tissue in throat or straining in lungs, as to produce the bronchial pneumonia or the pressure that would come from poisons to all portions of system.

  11. (Q) Is condition such as to warrant the notifying of her son? [2698] (A) Unless conditions respond, it would be.

  12. (Q) Any further suggestions that will be of aid or help for this body? (A) Do these, as we have given.

  13. That is all the questions.

  14. In eight to twelve hours we should see response from these applications; other than that then may expect anxiety.

  15. We are through for the present.
