This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 12th day of June, 1933, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Annie Cayce.]
Time of Reading 417 - 22nd St., 4:25 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Va. Beach, Va. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [271]; this we have had before.
-
Now, as we find, there is not a great deal of change in the general physical forces since last we had same here.
-
While there may not be said to be at present any greater deteriorative forces active in the membranes, or those disorders that disturb the equilibrium of the reactions in the nerve system through the activity of brain centers, little of a contributory cause to a betterment has been added since last we had the body here.
-
These, we would find, would be well to add to the system in the manner as we have outlined for the body.
-
The activities in the physical forces are beneficial. When these activities are taken in the sun, or with the sun, the sand, the sea water, these - of course - are good, but add very little of a constructive influence, other than preventative influences, in the amount of the ultra-violet rays that are received by all portions of the system in or during such activity.
-
With the sun and sea baths continued there may be the less amount to make for activity, but without the vibrations - or any of the vibrations from the low electrical forces, with those supplies of the minerals necessary to be active in constructive influences in brain tissue and nerve elements of the system, as we have indicated, these of the sun rays are hardly efficient or sufficient in keeping constructive forces.
-
The diet, and the activities of the suggestive influences about the body - these have been somewhat improved since last we had same, but there should be more of the activity of that influence which has been suggested, if the better conditions are to arise.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is it personal feeling that causes him not to want to take the battery, or is there someone else that can get him to take it? (A) He would have to be reasoned with, for it!
-
(Q) Is it wise to let him sleep in the mornings as long as he wants to? (A) If the hours are changed, or reversed - and he goes to bed early enough, be better that he rises earlier. This would naturally have to be changed now. You couldn’t send him to bed, or make him go to be bed early, since he is sleeping until ten and eleven in the morning!
-
(Q) Is there any suggestion as to how to reason with him? (A) This has been given sufficient, if they’ll only take the time and the patience!
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/13/33 letter from [271]‘s mother: “Dear Friend, your very nice letter to hand. You will be surprised to hear that I am leaving for England Saturday to visit my daughter who is not well, so please send all mail to [other daughter], Mrs. […] N.Y.C., and she will mail checks to you for readings, etc. Hope to hear that [271] is getting on. I have written to him several times and stressed he should obey and take the battery treatments as they are for his good. I feel that Lu Hesson in his kindly way will succeed with him. [271] is a fine swimmer and I have confidence in him. He gets a kick out of it and it is sure wonderful exercise for him. I will write to him as often as possible while away. Kindest regards to you all…”
R2. 6/33 Letter from [271]‘s mother: ”…Very sorry to learn that [271] doesn’t take to the batteries, but with kindness and coaxing I believe he will fall in again. I don’t advise letting him sleep late mornings. He must have regular routine. This, of course, is up to Lu. Mrs. [[…]‘s daughter] will write to him telling him to do as asked of him for his own good.”
R3. 6/21/33 EC’s letter to Mrs. […] [[271]‘s sister]: “We were somewhat surprised to know that Mrs. […] [[271]‘s mother] was on her way to England… We will do everything possible to persuade [271] to follow more closely the suggestions given. Last evening in talking with him he showed me his mother’s letter, and promised that he would take his battery treatments more regularly. They certainly do have their effect when he does take them, but when he rebels - it’s another question…”
R4. 6/21/33 EC’s letter to Dr. Foerter: ”…The man from New York with dementia praecox is progressing very nicely…”
R5. Memo by GD: [271] was physically stronger than Lu Hesson who attended him. [271] would swim far out into the ocean and stay for an hour or more and on several occasions the Coast Guard had to be sent out to bring him in. Once he disappeared for hours and they couldn’t find him - swam to land far up the coast and hours later they found him about five miles away from Virginia Beach.
R6. 6/26/33 Ck. Physical 271-9 was obtained.
