This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of March, 1930, in accordance with request made by self, through Mr. [900].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, Dr. [2711]. Some phases of the entity’s development we have had before.

2. In the physical functioning of this body, we find there are disturbances that produce distresses with the body. These have to do with the functioning of organs, rather than dis-ease or disorder that is primarily organic.

3. These have to do with the eliminations in the system, and especially of that portion of system as has to do with the condition and resultant effects PRODUCED in system in the colon.

4. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2711] we are speaking of.

5. IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this very good in many respects, but there is a lack of that plasm in same as retains, or sustains, the vitality necessary for the resuscitation in muscular forces in body; especially when same comes under strain, or viewed from another angle the deficiency in same is the inability to produce proper coagulation in the USED forces as are used when certain functioning organs operate; as is seen in the intestinal tract, or especially that about the sphincter muscles.

6. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, this also shows rather the USED UP forces, or the tired centers, from taxation, under strain mentally and physically. Not that the body is deficient in either, save in the vitalities necessary to restore the full elasticity, or the full functioning of impulse from nerve center and the actuality of plasm building in blood supply. Hence the body suffers in that direction FROM which the system IS attacked, or the CYCLE of functioning organs becomes repressed under existent conditions.

7. IN THE FUNCTIONING ORGANS THEMSELVES, these show the effect of a depletion in the vitality of system. The SPECIFIC conditions in each:

8. Congestion is easily effective in the system, through the inability of the system to produce proper coagulations. Hence there is an excess of phlegm and of the mucus discharge from throat and nasal cavity. Also there is the tendency of the body to produce such irritation as will increase the circulation through the portions of the system. THAT, the system attempting to adjust itself; NOT a deficiency - but when portions are overexercised, some portion MUST suffer, unless there is a near normalcy throughout the physical organism.

9. Heart’s action shows the effect of the tiredness, as does the arterial - as well as venous - circulation system.

10. Digestion very good, considering the strain under which the system does labor. In the lower digestive system we find a character of prolapsus, especially in the lower colon; also the tendency of sluggishness in the ascending and transverse colon; so that the conditions as exist are of the nature that cause irritation and plethora, by the blood attempting to gather in portions of the muscles and of the tissue, to meet the needs - and these produce irritation, and the resultant hemorrhoid effect as is seen there.

11. In meeting the needs of the conditions for the system, these may be removed by a TEMPORARY relief - or there may be applied that in system which will REMOVE the condition entirely.

12. These we would give as BEST - those that will REMOVE this condition and build up the system to the proper reactory forces, that this condition may be eliminated in such a way and manner as to not be recurrent in the system. These we would do by building up the general health, as well as building up the system in such a way and manner as to RELIEVE and to REMOVE the stress in the system.

13. The first consideration should be, that the reactions should be nearer or more ALKALIN in the system; and for this we would use those of the Coker Compound, that will bring the DIGESTIVE system into a near normal reaction; taking this in cold water, quarter teaspoonful, after the morning or the noon meal. After the evening meal, take half a teaspoonful in very HOT water. This will RELIEVE this stress and strain.

14. Then, we would take those exercises wherein the body would, standing erect, swing arms well above head and bending forward at the same time, or giving the tendency of the UPWARD movement for same.

15. Take the manipulation, osteopathically, and adjustments, in the lumbar, lower dorsals, and on to even the upper cervicals.

16. LOCALLY, apply those properties as would be found in a combination of THIS character; using this as an ointment following the stools, or WHEN there is irritation. RESTING, keeping feet up, will also aid these conditions - as well as aid the general HEALTH of body, with the taking of the medicinal properties and the manipulations (which should be had at least ONCE each day). This salve [Tim], or ointment, would be made in THIS manner:

17. To 1 ounce of OIL of butterfat, add 1 dram of very fine POWDERED tobacco, 2 grains or 2 minims of oil of aloe, and 2 minims of oil of the buckeye kernel. Stir well together and use as an ointment.

18. Do that. Also use the other suggestions for the general health; being mindful of the diet, that - as there is being attempted to create an alkalin reaction in the system through those properties taken in same - the diets do not work against same, but rather conforming with same. Not too much meats. The juices may be taken, also vegetables - vegetable OILS, and the FRUITS of ALL kinds may be taken, ESPECIALLY the citrus fruits. Ready for questions. We are through for the present.

It is a compound that was given through the readings some years ago. I am sure you will find it quite worth while. You will be able, no doubt, to have the other prescription prepared, if you care to use that.

Many thanks for the psychic reading which you have given re my case & which states the physical conditions accurately.

The jar of Coker’s Compound arrived two days after your letter, possibly due to passing the customs examination.

I am at present carrying out the treatment mentioned in your letter & will let you know the results in due course.

I know that rest is an important factor in helping such cases as mine but unfortunately my work involves a great deal of standing. However, I am resting when it is at all possible for me to do so.

I am in receipt of yours of March 29th. I certainly am very much in hopes that the information as given in the readings sent you, will prove of some help to you. It may be quite remarkable that the information given was somewhere near correct, but the real VALUE in it is that the APPLICATION of those things suggested would be of help and benefit to you, and I’m hoping this will prove true in your case, as it has in so many thousands of others.

I hope you will let us hear from you from time to time.

The work is progressing very nicely. We have really all been surprised at the NUMBERS of people who have been seeking aid through these channels. We have also been very much gratified at the RESULTS people have obtained by the application of the information IN the hospital, under the directions of the physician in charge.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Many thanks for your letter of April 19th. I am certainly feeling better than I did a month ago & hope to keep on improving.

I have followed the treatment as far as I could, but the ointment for hemorrhoids I have not been able to get made up. The chemists here say they have not got some of the ingredients. I am, however, going to see a first class firm of herbalists to-day to see if they can deal with it.

I am pleased to know that the hospital work is progressing so favourably & I hope one day to come & have a look at your hospital.

It is interesting to know that so many people are undergoing treatment under circumstances rather difficult from the orthodox.

I have repeatedly tried to impress upon people that man has what we might term a psychic physiology as well as a physical one.

I am convinced that the best results will always be obtained from co-operation of the psychic knowledge with that of the medical profession.

There are so many problems in psychic matters I would like to tackle, but unfortunately my available time is somewhat limited at present.

I yet, hope to be able to throw some light on the causes & modus operandi of some of the phenomena which come under our observation.

Dear Dr. [2711]

I have yours of the 9th, and am glad indeed to know that you are feeling better. If you are not able to get this preparation for the hemorrhoids prepared there, we will be glad to have this done here for you and forward same to you. I think it can be done alright and would pass inspection. In each and every case where this has been suggested, it has proven most effective; and, in fact, has proven the most beneficial in cases of very long standing. I would like for you to try it out. Let me know immediately as to whether you wish me to forward this or not.

We are making some progress with our work, both in the educational phase and in the material or physical application of the suggestions in or through the psychic sources. I certainly hope that at a very early date we may have the pleasure of having you visit our institution and have you talk and reason with us. As soon as the buildings are completed, we will have a nice auditorium, and this will furnish us a place where we may disseminate the findings of many of those who have made a study of the phenomena, or of similar phenomena.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Many thanks for your letter of May 29th.

Re the ointment for hemorrhoids the herbalists & chemists here do not stock some of the essential ingredients, & I should therefore be glad if you could send me some of the ointment to try it.

If you will let me know what the expense is I will willingly pay it.

The hemorrhoids are much better than they were, & are now merely a bit of a nuisance more than anything else. In any case, I shall be very pleased to get rid of them altogether if that is possible. I am pleased to know that the hospital work is progressing so favourably. I hope to visit your hospital, if not this summer, certainly by next year, & then we shall be able to have a chat re those psychical problems which so greatly interest us both.

Yes, the hospital is progressing very nicely. The work is proving most interesting and most satisfactory to everyone who comes, either as a patient or an investigator. I certainly hope that we may have the privilege of having you with us sometime in the very near future.

On April 11th we wrote you inquiring as to whether or not you followed the suggestions given in your psychic reading of March 6th. Having received no reply to this letter, we are again writing to ask if you have followed any, or all, of the suggestions given in this reading, and, if so, to please advise us of the results. We do not wish to keep bothering you with these requests, but it is necessary to have this information in order to complete our records, and your cooperation in this will be greatly appreciated.

R9. 9/25/30 Dr. [2711]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear Madam,

I have just received your letter of Aug. 13th which was addressed to the Dept. of Applied Science. It arrived when I was away on a lecturing tour from which I have only just returned, & unfortunately the caretaker at the University omitted to send it to my home address or I should have been able to write you sooner. I had already replied to your letter of April 11th but it appears that, for some reason, my letter has not reached you.

I have followed the suggestions given in the reading of March 6th and am feeling much better than I did before treatment.

The hemorrhoids, however, do not seem to disappear, but are more of a nuisance than a real menace. I am able to get about all right, but have to keep to a certain routine, & then I am not troubled much.

There was an ointment which I was unable to get made up here, but barring that, I have followed instructions & yet hope to see the last of an irritating complaint. It may interest you to know that quite recently I have visited a psychic church in London where spiritual healing is practised on a large scale, & many amazing cures have been performed.

More & more attention is now being given here to this method of treatment.

We are just commencing our University session here, & I find I am several pounds heavier in weight than I was at the end of last session, so it is obvious that I have not gone back as far as health is concerned.

We had your subscription to the Virginia Beach News, and I hope that you have been receiving this paper regularly. I am wondering if you have found the little talks of mine of any interest whatsoever.

No doubt that you have noticed from some of the other announcements that our hospital here has, plainly speaking, “gone on the rocks”, owing to some misunderstanding of some nature between Mr. Blumenthal and myself. As you no doubt knew, Mr. Blumenthal was the financial backer of the undertaking. However, those who have been receiving benefits through the suggestions given for physical ailments, and those who have become interested in the phenomena itself in the many various phases, are going about to establish a cooperative association for the carrying on of the work itself. If you are interested, I shall be glad to acquaint you with the facts. If you are not, of course I do not want to trouble you with them. There are, however, a great many more educational men affiliating themselves with the undertaking at this time than ever before. This no doubt will be of interest to you. College professors, deans in English, Psychology, Dramatics, and many others, are showing considerable interest.
