This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of September, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [2713].

EC: We have the entity and those relations between the universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present experience.
-
In entering, we find the entity coming under the influence of Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus, Saturn. In these relationships, we find much has been changed and altered as respecting that of the purely astrological - as is termed in the present experience; yet much of these conditions have to do with the entity and the entity’s application of self in the present experience.
-
One, under the influence of these, we find as high minded; yet not little in high mindedness, but rather mindful of those little things that make for the better conditions in one’s experience.
-
One ennobling in the radiation of self’s experience.
-
One very capable of being made very mad. This ability to control self has been developed much in the present experience.
-
One that finds that at times it is easily flared up, or feelings are hurt, or there are slights that so injure that the feelings flare up - but one without a temper is not very much good, and one that cannot control it is very much worse.
-
One, we find, that in Venus finds that in love much may be accomplished, and THIS the developing influence in the life, for in all the experiences - as we find - these have come, or will come to a culmination in this present experience, and the entity finds self capable - through the love as may be manifested in an individual life - to express self, even through the occult - as is termed - to know the self-consciousness of the presence of divine aid and help in this present experience. Seek ye to know that.
-
One, we find, that has innately much as finds expression in things mechanical, or mechanical terms are very interesting to the body, or entity - even the intrinsic operations of, whether it be a watch, or a steam engine, has peculiar fascinations for the entity.
-
One that loves music and expressions in others, yet only in harmony in self as a response, and music or beauty - or any form of art may be very rasping to this entity, to a degree where error as found in ANY manner is so abhorrent as to operate almost as a file along the spine of the body, so that these become abhorrent to the entity. In the expressions of self in this direction, only harmonious influences come to that that gives either quiet or control of self, or contentment in self. Well has the entity learned, be CONTENT in whatever station or position - but not satisfied. This a GLORY in ANYONE’S experience. Contentment does not mean stop. Satisfy means that there has already set in something that is not active - but to the entity, to the body, in THIS experience, there will be the continuation of learning, as has been seen in Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, even in Saturn, and ACCENTUATED in Uranus; for in Uranus we find the body feels very good or very bad. Scarcely can the body experience a middle ground. The influences to the entity, then, are those that are of the March birth in the opposite sex, and those of January and December in the same sex. These have the greater influence in the life of the entity, for we find both Jupiter and Uranus square with Venus MOST periods through March or October, and with those of MERCURY in December and January.
-
In the appearances and the influences these have in the present experience:
-
In the one before this we find in that land now known as France, and during the period of the exile of the ruler, or Charles the second. The entity then among those who sheltered and aided this entity, and of the household of Caus [?] [Caius?], in the name Celia. The entity gained and lost through this experience, gaining in the service rendered - not only to one of high estate, but of the rabble and of the middle man or peoples. The entity then one of high estate in that period, and of the household of Caus [?] who ruled the streets, or was the burgher master of that portion of the city in which that ruler lived; and many in this present experience will be the friends, and foes, of this entity. These may be known by those expressions of the love of that particular period. From this experience the entity finds an awe at people in power or position, yet rather the feeling of pity for them that err who are in power, feeling rather that being raised to the high estate through the earning of same the mis-application must bring turmoil and consternation, not only to the individual as physical, but as to the inner being; for things spiritual to this entity finds close expression in the inner life.
-
In the period before this we find in that land where the Bedouins came in as the destructive forces to those in the schools. The entity then among those of that school, and destroyed by those that overran this land. The entity gained through this portion of its experience, but that of madness - or of temper - rises most from THIS experience. Then in the name Fienuea. The entity finds that from this experience of love of mystery, of the unseen, of the knowing of things pertaining to others, or of secret missions. This ONE woman who can keep a secret!
-
In the one before this we find in that period when the division arose in the land known as Egypt. The entity then the assistance to the priest that was banished, in that the entity was then the MOTHER of the priest, and aided in the setting of the priest in the position to gain in power and position; being in years when the entity came into the land, yet many days were given in sorrow for the error and in supplication for the return and the building again of that as had been set by the alien, the native, and the friends of that period. Then in the name Arda. The entity gained through this experience, gaining in the service as given, and much may be expected of those associations and connections with those that had to do with that period in the present, and the contacts must be as those that would join together in the service for the one purpose, in establishing that as was set aforetime.
-
In the one before this we find in Poseida. The entity then in that of the MALE, and gained in power through the ability to give to the peoples those of the sides of life that had to do with the mechanics and the application of forces in nature that are NOT applied by the mind of man in the present. The entity gained and lost through this period. Gaining in service, losing in mis-application, for the engendering of thought of self rather than neighbor, and from the application of many of those things as were given to the peoples - in using, especially, transmission of thought, of message, of minds, of things. Hence we find the entity’s interest in mechanics, and things that have to do with things of this nature.
-
In the abilities of the entity, these - as we find - lie in many directions, and the application of self in any of these, for the entity might become an INVENTOR - or the entity may apply self in the direction of the teacher, or of those that have to do with those of state secrets, or the secret service, or the diplomatic service. In any of these the entity may apply self, yet most will be accomplished in those that have to do with that of the spiritual nature that lies nearest and dearest to the heart of the entity in the present experience. Keep thyself right, in the manner of knowing that the universal forces are of the Creative Energy, and must be applied in man’s knowing his closer relation to his Maker; for in mis-application comes dissension. In understanding comes service. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is …, N.C., the proper place for the entity to live, from a physical and financial standpoint? If not, where? (A) Any place, as given - the entity may choose. This has its own peculiar interest, from individual contacts the entity HAS made that have influenced the entity through other experiences. In the present, with the contacts, there will be others that will be more in accord with that the entity would accomplish. Why not follow those?
-
(Q) Do you see any immediate changes for my betterment in the next few years? (A) That depends upon application of self and that attained IN self; for betterment, physically, mentally, financially, may come through the application of that as is known INNATELY and APPLICABLE to the body, to the entity.
-
(Q) In what capacity am I best fitted to serve the Association of National Investigators? (A) This, as has been given. That in ANY that has to do with those of transmission of ideas, thoughts, teachings, or the relationships of others TO the Association. These may be the best ways, means, and manners - but stay close to same!
-
(Q) Will my future savings be best invested in Pinehurst Incorporated Stock? (A) These are very good. There may be better.
-
(Q) Will the entity be able to dispose of, without loss, lots #35 and 36, Sweet Street, Rockledge, Fla., and when? (A) To dispose of same without loss will require the holding of same for at least four to five years.
-
(Q) If first impulses govern my decisions in life, is it because of the unseen compelling forces that control me? (A) This would rather be indicated as that as has been outlined. We have contending forces, as is seen, with the entity. Through those first we find of the higher developments, as has to do with those of the impulse, that brought destructive forces. These appear first. THIS an entity that should think twice before acting once. MOST people we would find would act on impulse first. THIS entity should think twice. We are through for the present.

R2. 4/26/31 [2713]‘s letter to EC:
DEAR MR. CAYCE:-
IT GRIEVED ME WHEN THE HOSPITAL WENT UNDER, WHEN I LEFT EVERYTHING LOOKED SO PROMISING AND YOU WERE HAPPY TO HAVE REALIZED YOUR HIGHEST ASPIRATIONS. IT JUST SEEMED TOO BAD TO HAVE IT GO “ON THE ROCKS”.
THANKS A LOT FOR BOTH OF YOUR LETTERS. YOU SEE I HAVE BEEN OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE WORK FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS AND I DO NOT FEEL THAT I AM CAPABLE OF MAKING ANY SUGGESTIONS. ALL THAT I CAN SAY IS THAT YOU ARE FINE MEN AND WOMEN AND I WISH YOU GREAT SUCCESS. I SHALL BE INTERESTED TO KNOW FROM TIME TO TIME HOW THE WORK IS PROGRESSING.
WITH KINDEST THOUGHTS AND VERY BEST TO YOU AND EACH MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY, ALSO THE SCHROYERS [Shroyers], I AM
MOST SINCERELY, [2713]
R3. 4/30/31 EC’s letter to [2713]:
Mrs. [2713] …, N.C.
My dear Mrs. [2713]
Many thanks for yours of the 26th. Yes, in many ways it seems bad for the hospital to have gone “on the rocks”. Let’s just hope the ideals and purposes have not done so. If they are correct, they have not. If they are in error, they should.
We are still going about to carry on, and we hope that you have found sufficient help and interest in the work to be interested in the undertakings. May we let you hear from us as these are set forth from time to time?
Again thanking you, and with kindest thoughts and love from each and every one here, I am
Ever the same,

R4. 4/30/31 GD’s letter to [2713]:
Mrs. [2713] …, N.C.
My dear Mrs. [2713]
Many times I have thought of you and wondered how you were getting along. So much has happened in regard to the Work that I wouldn’t know where to start in beginning to tell you about it.
It has just occurred to me that you might be able to come to Virginia Beach for a vacation this summer, and I am writing to urge that you do come if possible. We get so busy here with our own problems and ideals that we sometimes fail to send out our enthusiasm to others as we should. I know you are interested in the Work, and the only way you can keep directly in touch with it is to be in the midst of it occasionally. Mr. Cayce is continuing his lectures. He talks out here every other Sunday, and there is a group in Norfolk who are sponsoring his lectures at the Monticello Hotel in between times. A study group has been organized in Norfolk and they are going right ahead with their study of the Work and their attempt to spread the light to others. All of us here feel that the closing of the hospital was a step forward instead of backward, and that the Work itself will go on bigger and better than ever before. Since the university has been established at Virginia Beach, we have some of the best educated men in the country working with us
- which means that the Work itself will be put on an entirely different basis and given to others in a more understandable way than ever before. The same things that happened in Egypt are happening all over again, except that some of the positions are reversed.
You didn’t know Miss Annie Cayce, did you? She is Mr. Cayce’s sister who came to the hospital as matron when Mrs. House left. She now is running a small place on 22nd Street, where she can take care of a few at the time who wish to come and be closely associated with our undertaking. She is certainly a lovely woman, and I know you would be so fond of her. Very peculiarly, she was Mr. Cayce’s sister also in Egypt - therefore, your daughter. So you couldn’t keep from loving her.
Won’t you please write me when you have the time, and arrange to spend a while at Virginia Beach this summer if you possibly can?
Love from all, [signed] Gladys
R5. 3/5/33 (Sunday) [2713]‘s letter to GD:
My dear Gladys:-
Have been thinking much about you lately and wondering how you are and how everything is progressing in the work.
A friend of mine has become rather interested and will probably want a life reading after seeing mine. Please advise me if Mr. Cayce will give one. I know when I was there that he felt he should give most of his time to physical readings.
Would love so much to see you ALL again. When I heard of the change Mr. Poole [H. E. Poole] made I immediately tried to secure the Virginia Beach Western Union office for this summer. Was too late. A man was ahead of me.
Please give my very BEST to everyone who remembers me.
Love to you,
Sincerely, [2713]
R6. 3/7/33 GD’s letter to [2713]:
My dear Mrs. [2713]
We were indeed delighted to receive your letter this morning. Just the other day some of us mentioned you, and wondered why we never heard from you. We were beginning to think you had forgotten us. Perhaps you felt WE were the negligent ones. Anyway, your letter brought all of us rallying - and I’m hurrying to answer without even a day’s delay.
Everything is progressing slowly but surely with us. We are getting out a little monthly Bulletin now, two or three copies of which I am sending under separate cover; also some Life Reading data, which I believe you will find quite interesting, since you have already had yours - and perhaps it will be interesting to the friend who is considering one. Hugh Lynn compiled this from the data we had on hand, and I think it gives a rather clear impression of just what Life Readings are, and why. Yes, Mr. Cayce is giving quite a number of these readings now; in fact, he is beginning to believe they are more valuable than any type of information we give - unless, of course, one is real sick and actually needs a Physical Reading.
My, I do wish you could have gotten the place here with the Western Union for the summer! Could you put in your application for next summer right now and be sure to get it? I do hope you can come for your vacation, anyway. There’s so much to tell you, that couldn’t possibly go in a letter. Remember Chester Robinson? He was down last summer for two or three weeks. We are not living on 35th Street now, but at the other end of the Beach; down the street from the New Casino, on Arctic Crescent, right across from the Catholic Church and about a block from the jail; so we’re well protected.
I’m also sending the two membership blanks that we have now, so you can see there’s a choice the individual can make. Please fill out the Active one and send it for yourself, so you’ll be sure to get the data each month. We certainly want you on the list. I’ve thought of writing you about this many times, but didn’t know whether or not you were still interested. Of course I should have known you would be!
I know you would be interested in the Study Group work. If you find anything listed in the Bulletin let me know and I’ll try to expand on it. There’s so much to tell I don’t know where to begin or end.
So we hope to hear from you again in the NEAR FUTURE. And be sure to make your arrangements to spend your vacation in Virginia Beach.
With love from all, I am
Ever the same, [signed] Gladys Davis
R7. 5/16/33 [2713]‘s letter to GD:
My dear Gladys:-
Never have I received a letter that I appreciated more than yours and I am so sorry that I have waited so long to thank you for it.
At the time I was very busy and also the friend of whom I wrote you was expected in … about April 10th, at which time he was to see my Reading and then decide. His trip fell through so I mailed the Reading with all the literature that I could find. That reached him just when he was undergoing xrays & etc. I knew that he was interested in Reincarnation but I did not know that he was under the weather or would have sent Physical Readings also. He is now sorry that I did not mail both long ago. I would have except for the fact that few accept that sort of thing. I tried to interest people right after leaving there and you can imagine what happened. This person of whom I speak would like both readings were it possible for him to know in advance just where he will be. It isn’t possible just now. He thinks that Mr. Cayce’s work is wonderful.
I would give the world to be with you all and in that spiritual atmosphere for even a little while this summer. I am just as much interested even if I have not proven it in a material way. Like many others my finances have been greatly reduce. Salaries cut several times in our company. If I could only have got the Va Beach office. Just too bad for me.
Indeed I do remember Chester Robinson and I liked him a lot. I know you are busy - sometime when you CAN spare a few minutes tell me the news about Mr. Hough, Miss Cayce, Mrs. Levy, Mrs. Griffin, Mr. Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Bloomingthal - all of them. I did not have time to read the literature which you so kindly sent before mailing it. Shall read when I get it back. Thanks a lot.
You are a dear girl Gladys and nothing would give me more pleasure than just to see you and the Cayce family.
Lots of love to you and each one.
Sincerely [2713]
R8. 6/26/33 GD’s letter to [2713]:
My dear Mrs. [2713]
We were all so delighted to get your letter, although I haven’t acted like it - by waiting so long to answer. But we have been extremely busy, I’m glad to say. That hasn’t kept me from thinking about you many times, but I just haven’t gotten to the point of writing.
Mr. Poole attended our Sunday Afternoon meeting not long ago, and seemed very much interested. I think he will get a physical reading for his father.
I’m so sorry you have been without any of the literature all this time. I fully intended to send you some more the very day I got your letter, but you know how it is - the time just flies and nothing seems to get done. However, under separate cover I’m sending another batch, and if you can think of anything else you would like don’t hesitate to ask for it. I’m enclosing an Active membership blank, which I want you to fill out and return to me at once, even though you cannot make a definite pledge to contribute regularly, for I want you to be on the list to receive the monthly Bulletins. In that way you will be able to keep sort of in touch with what is going on. So much has happened that I don’t know what you do know and what you don’t, while - if you were getting the Bulletins - you would be “up to date”, at it were. So, please send this back right away, so we’ll be sure not to overlook you when sending out data. Everyone on the membership list receives the monthly Bulletin, as well as any other data that may be ready for distribution from time to time. More and more we are trying to give out that to others which we find worth while.
Here’s hoping you are feeling the very best. Will you be taking a vacation? I certainly do hope you can come here for a while. We could really do some talking!
If your friend is very anxious for the reading, we could make an appointment and he could wire us his whereabouts just before the hour appointed. For a Life Reading, of course, it isn’t necessary to know where he will be when the reading is given.
I’m sorry to say the Mr. Hough passed to the other side a few days ago. We haven’t been in direct communication with him for some time, as he was at his home in Bluemont, Virginia, and we just heard from him every few months. He was unable, after the hospital closed, to continue his treatments. Also Mr. Shaw died last fall. I hear from his wife rather regularly. She has been all broken up over his death, and hasn’t gotten adjusted to the change yet. You would like her, I think. She is still in New York. Miss Cayce is here, and has a cottage on 22nd Street. We hear from the Levy’s regularly, and see them every now and then. Sonny is getting on fine. He is soon going to a summer camp. Chester Robinson wrote recently of coming down again this summer. Wouldn’t it be lovely if you could both be here at the same time? Probably you remember the group from Norfolk that used to come out to the lectures. Well, that group is a Study Group in the new Association, and we are forming lessons. You would be SO interested in all this. When you come, you’ll have to attend our weekly meetings and see what we are doing.
Please let us hear from you whenever you find the time. It is always such a pleasure to get a letter from you. Love from all.
Ever the same, [signed] Gladys
