This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of February, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [274], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading … Apt., 4:45 to 4:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: We have the body here, [274].
-
As we find, there are acute conditions that disturb the body in the present. Infectious forces from the deficiencies as indicated in the blood supply, acted upon by the flu or the GERMS that MAKE for the creating - or tendencies for creating - even a form of strep through the blood system.
-
Hence the low temperature, the hoarseness, the throat condition, the general weakness as indicated, and the infectious forces through the soft tissue of the face and head.
-
In the present, then, as we find:
-
We would use the Mono-Ichthyolate reduced by the addition of a weakened solution of alcohol as a preservative, but not so strong as to irritate the mucous membranes too severely. Use this in a spray for the nasal passages and for the throat.
-
Also, for clearing the throat and to make for a better alkalinity, we use a combination that may be prepared at home - in this manner:
-
To the white only of one egg (not a cold storage egg, but a fresh egg), beaten VERY thoroughly, add:
Juice of one lemon, added VERY slowly and stirred, Teaspoonful of strained honey, added drop by drop and beaten into same. Glycerine two minims (not more than the two drops).
-
This may be taken a teaspoonful about twice a day, until the condition is cleared.
-
It would be well that the bowels be kept excessive in their movements; through using - as WE find - a mild laxative, such as may be had in the combination known as Fletcher’s Castoria. Two teaspoonsful may be taken at a dose. This will tend to allay fever and to make for a clearing of the system. Also the properties in same - the Senna, of course, being the active principle, with the Pumpkin Seed, the Anise, the Thyme and the other properties - will tend to LESSEN the activity of the infectious forces, and cause a purification.
-
In the diet we would keep those things that are strengthening. Occasionally - once a day - we would have an eggnog. Not too much of the spirits frumenti, but at least a quantity of two teaspoonsful in one glass. Do not use the WHITE of the egg in this, but only the yolk. Cook the yolk of the egg by dropping the whiskey ON same, with a little sugar added and then the milk.
-
Liver; any of the strengthening foods may be used; also vegetables should form a part of the combinations, but not cooked in quantities of grease. A little steak, if it is SCRAPED very well, may be taken in two or three days.
-
The body should be near to normal.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How long should I stay in? (A) Until there is at least a day, or a day and a half, without ANY temperature - and the body feels sufficiently strong to then go out for its treatments that have been indicated.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/9/36 He wrote: “I thank you for the last rdg. and would like to have now another ck. physical rdg. with particular study of the lung condition: deep breathing seems to be a little difficult - slight irritation provokes occasional coughing. Backaches are more frequent, so are headaches. I feel hungry, very often, am easily tired and do not sleep as soundly as I used to. Nose and throat are still bothering me, and Ipsab does not seem to have any action any more. What type of outdoor exercise would you suggest, of diet, for this time of the year?”
R2. 5/16/36 EC gave him a Ck. Physical, 274-12.
R3. 7/13/49 Samuel E. Benesch, 6201 Hartford Rd., Baltimore 14, Md., wrote: “I tried the honey, lemon juice, egg white and glycerine and got relief in 2 to 3 minutes. It relieves raw throat quickly, stops tickling. It is handy for heavy smokers.”
R4. 7/13/49 Mrs. [808] wrote: “I used this on a child who had a severe cough for five weeks - the white of egg, honey and lemon mixture during the day [as in 274-11] and the turpentine, mutton tallow and camphor rub at night [as given in 243-31]. I was amazed at the immediate relief. I felt it was not going contrary to what my doctor had prescribed, because nothing already taken had helped the child.”

B2. 2/20/36 He wrote: “Thank you for your letter and the rdgs. [274-9 and 274-10]. Since then I am sick in bed with what seems to be a bad form of a seasonal grippe. Symptoms are: fever of about 100, very inflamed throat, nose clogged up, congested area in the lungs with painful expectorations - with of course general weakness (fainted twice out of a hot bath). For a week that condition persisted with a very slight tendency for the better. The doctor has prescribed rest and Aspirin (which upsets my stomach). Could you give me a rdg. RIGHT AWAY with suggestions for tr. and diet? How long should I stay in bed, etc. Thank you again.”
