This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 28th day of September, 1932, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [275], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and Hugh Lynn Cayce.]
Time of Reading 10:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [275] - this we have had before.
-
Now, as we find, conditions are very good, when all things that surround the conditions for improvement and the physical conditions of the body are considered.
-
While there have been and still are some tendencies for erosion, or the crystallization that should strengthen the cartilaginous forces of the body respecting that specific condition which exists in the head of the femur or the upper hip bone, these are in that position or condition where now the healing may be made to become more of the permanent, constructive nature. The bone in itself may not be expected to be wholly replaced, yet the cartilaginous forces, the crystallization of more of those forces that make for stabilization in the structural portions of the system are being created, since the cause for erosion or chalkiness, or the inflammation in the marrow or center of the bone, has almost entirely been eliminated.
-
Without unforeseen accident, or inflammation produced by outside influences or from some unexpected reaction in the forces of the physical body itself, there should be a lessening of the pain that occurs at times, and easier use in locomotion and activity, with the constantly building up; yet not becoming stiff, sore, or inflammatory. To be sure, it is possible for conditions to arise to produce these, but with the keeping of the system in the way of building constructively in the inner elements, there should be a continual progress.
-
Rather this line or mode of operation, or application, will be required, for both the internal influences and the external influences; or for the external forces to be made one with the internal influences and forces, for the keeping of the general conditions in a healthy and active way of producing constructively and building up resistance and replenishing forces in the system:
-
In the present then, we would soon begin with those manipulative forces osteopathically given that make for a proper assimilation of all those forces that may be taken as the elements for replenishing of used forces and building energy in system. These we would take at least twice each week, Tuesdays and Fridays or similar periods between the treatments. They should be rather of the general nature, as conditions develop in those portions where the conditions have been of detrimental forces, or in hip. Sufficient treatments should be given to prevent there being any stiffness in that portion of the limb or body, but particularly along those centers where sympathetic and cerebro-spinal nerve system have their connections 4th lumbar, 6th to 10th dorsal, and from the 4th to 1st cervical; these given as general treatments.
-
At least once each week we would also have the ultra-violet ray, applied particularly over the solar plexus area, extending to the lower lumbar area.
-
The Infra Red treatments should be given at least once each week, applied in first a lateral then in an abstruse manner to the hip and pelvic area direct. Each treatment we would give with the compound light at least twenty to thirty minutes; however, we would let these be at an opposite period from the treatments of the ultra-violet ray.
-
We would also take the ash in an eighth grain quantity at least three times each week, one of these doses especially being sixty minutes before the light treatment is given, whether the Infra Red or the ultra-violet. At least sixty minutes before the treatment should this dose be taken.
-
As to the matter of diet, we would follow rather along those lines of not an over abundance of the calcium for the system, but above the ordinary amount; that there may be kept that constant replenishing for the structural forces of the body. Take plenty of those foods that carry silicon and those elements that create more stamen in the muscle, and especially the tendons of the body. Let’s remember that these activities should be in such a nature as to be assimilated and distributed for the system. The manipulations that are given, and especially in the areas outlined, are to aid in this particular direction. Then, the greater amounts of the leafy vegetables and those properties that carry more silicon and the elements in phosphorus, and in that nature, are well.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Will Dr. Frank Dobbins [of PCO class of ‘29] of 238 Richmond Ave., Port Richmond, Stapleton, S.I., be able to give me osteopathic treatments correctly? (A) He will be able to! There should be the perfect understanding that the treatments are to be given in the manner that will carry on that which is outlined for the conditions of the body, that have been described here; not as for corrective but rather preventative measures throughout. Where aid may ever be brought, a discord may be created if applied in an improper way or manner.
-
(Q) How soon now should I start in drinking spinach juice? (A) This may be begun when the applications or treatments are begun in the general way or manner.
The applications for the magnetic forces for the body should also be kept; for, as given, these should not be as rote, but as positive, definite effects which may be created within the system through those vibrations that are set up in the individual, as well as through the combined efforts of those applying the same. Then, in the present we would make the applications in this manner:
Sitting on the left side of body, place the right hand over the 4th lumbar plexus and the left hand over the head or upper portion of the hip joint, or that part of the pelvic bone that needs that circulation through the tendon connection. This we would give each day, for at least twenty-five to thirty minutes.
-
(Q) How many ounces of spinach juice per day? (A) Two to four ounces.
-
(Q) Are there any other juices, vegetable or meat, that could be substituted? (A) Any of the leafy vegetable juices, or leafy vegetables may be taken; as lentils, broccoli, and such that carry sufficient iron and silicon for assimilation in system.
-
(Q) Do any teeth need attention? If so, which ones? (A) Not particularly, in the present.
-
(Q) What is the progress of the crystallization of cartilage in the hip joint? (A) As indicated, there have been some tendencies for the breaking away, or crumbly condition, with some inflammation which arises from the non-distribution of that assimilated in all portions of the system; hence the two manipulation or osteopathic treatments that would be given at this time each week.
-
That is all the questions.

We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/15/32 Mother [255]‘s ltr.: “[275] likes Dr. Dobbins very much and so do I. He is very gentle, just what she needs. And is very much interested in everything. Is studying all the readings and doing everything as they say. It relieves us of so much strain, not to have to travel to the city. He treats [275] in the evenings and then she comes home and goes to bed, which is very good for her.”
R2. 12/21/32 She obtained Ck. Physical 275-29.
R3. 11/5/33 Dr. Frank P. Dobbins’ talk at an open meeting in the Ernest W. Zentgraf home on Staten Island, N.Y.: “It was my very good fortune about a year ago to become acquainted with the work Mr. Cayce is doing. Up to that time I had never had any contact with work like this; and being a New Englander had thought work of this character something that the ordinary individual was not interested in. At that time I was given a number of readings, quite a few, probably 25 or 30 [275-1 through 275-28], together with some X-Rays of the same case, and I sat down with the readings and with the X-Rays and went over them very carefully. And as I went over these readings I was more and more impressed with the character of the work that that Mr. Cayce was doing. I am an osteopathic physician, by the way, and being an osteopath I am interested not only in the mechanical structure of the body but also in the chemical make-up and that sort of thing. Some of the prescriptions given I found were very remarkable in treatment. During the course of the past year I have come in contact with probably 8 or 9 patients under the direct care and guidance of Mr. Cayce, and I have found that Mr. Cayce certainly hits the nail on the head every time; and these readings have shown me a lot about things that I didn’t know before.”

R5. 12/6/38 Dr. Frank P. Dobbins (D.O.) appeared on a lecture program with Edgar Cayce and two other doctors in N.Y., THREE DOCTORS AND A PSYCHIC. The following account of one of Dr. Dobbins’ reports was given, was given many times beginning in 1947, in a lecture by Lydia J. Schrader Gray entitled EDGAR CAYCE AND THE MAN AS I KNEW HIM, in which he described what took place at the above lecture - which was her first introduction to the work of Edgar Cayce:
“Dr. Dobbins, an osteopath, whose office was then on Fifth Ave., told this amazing story. He had just come from Maine and established himself on Staten Island. His shingle was out, as he put it, but his name was not as yet in the telephone book. One afternoon, a lady presented herself at his door, with her young daughter (cases [255] & [275]). She asked him if he would treat her daughter, as suggested by a Reading, which she handed to him. He questioned her, and asked, ‘What sort of a Reading?’ and she hesitantly answered, ‘A Reading from a Psychic.’ He was flabbergasted. His first reaction was to refuse, then he thought of his doctor’s oath
- to aid all who come to him for help - and he said, ‘If you will allow me to examine your daughter, I’ll make my own diagnosis. Leave this Reading with me and this evening I will study it. Come tomorrow and I will tell you whether I can accept the case or not.’
“So, that evening he settled himself down in an easy chair and began to read it. He said, he was brought up in Maine, where they are very conservative, and he had many misgivings. Chills ran up and down his spine as he read, ‘Yes, we have the body of […]’ so and so. The diagnosis of what was wrong was given and specific osteopathic treatment was suggested. He agreed wholeheartedly with the diagnosis and treatment, but he said, he fairly jumped out of his chair when he read this question: ‘To whom shall I go for my daughter’s treatments?’ and the answer given was, ‘Find Dobbins!’
“Dr. Dobbins claimed that the readings had helped him in correctly diagnosing 95% of his cases, and he, too, is now on the Ass’n Advisory Board of Physicians.”
R6. 3/26/67 Mrs. [255] wrote: “I have just rec’d Jess Stearn’s book [EDGAR CAYCE - The Sleeping Prophet] and in the first few pages he mentions daughter [275] and myself. As I remember the experience, it was this way. I was looking for an osteopath and went to Dr. Grace C. Berger [in N.Y. City] who had been at the Cayce Hospital. She told me about Edgar Cayce. So we got to Virginia Beach. Then, when we got back to N.Y. I was told to look for Dr. Dobbins. I found him in N.Y. City where [275] had a few treatments. But he decided to move to Staten Island, for which I was very glad. This detail is not important, but true as I remember it. At any rate I was guided to Dr. Dobbins in the big city of N.Y. This could be checked with him if desired. When I saw Dr. Dobbins about two years ago, he said he still has letters in regard to readings after so many years. It brought success to him.”
R7. 10/12/71 Report from another of Dr. Frank P. Dobbins’ patients:
Dear Sir:
“It is now 3:30 A.M. & I can’t sleep. I feel compelled to write & tell you of my visit to Dr. Frank P. Dobbins, Nov. 16, 1970.
“For as long as I can remember I have had a chronic back ailment. In the last 10-12 years I’d be bent over like a hunch back every two or three weeks, also I would have great difficulty lifting my legs. This condition was becoming more severe.
“I visited Dr. Dobbins on Mon. Nov. 16, 1970. He gave me a Diathermy treatment & osteopathic adjustments, the heat treatment felt good, also the adjustments. However for about 2 weeks my back still felt sore, which was about par. After which time, the soreness was gone. At times I still feel some discomfort, but since Dr. Dobbins treated me I have NOT had any hunching nor have I had any difficulty in raising my legs.
“I have the form you sent me to evaluate the cooperating doctor. I do not know the medical terms for Dr. Dobbins diagnosis, or his treatment. But I do want it recorded that I was helped.”
Yours Sincerely, Morris Bacola
R8. GD’s note: Dr. Dobbins died on 9/8/71.
