GC: You will answer the questions regarding this body as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2843]; this we have had before.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) I’ve been unable to obtain a violet ray machine for the eye treatments. Is it possible for me to get one, or should some other treatment be now used? (A) It is still possible to get one. Interest self through the manufacturer of such - though they are not manufacturing them altogether now - in Milwaukee. The Hamilton-Beach Co.
-
(Q) What further should be done for the old hurts (from injury) which frequently come? (A) When these are overtaxing to the body, use Glyco-Thymoline Packs. These will aid in relaxing and will contribute to the alkalizing of the system that must be done if there would be the continuation of a great deal of activity by this body. Use three or four thicknesses of cotton cloth well saturated in full strength Glyco-Thymoline and apply, with heat, to the affected area.
-
(Q) Palpitation? (A) This requires quietness, and keeping good eliminations.
-
(Q) Flatulence? (A) This requires being precautious as to the foods and that these are assimilated or prepared for assimilation before eating or swallowing. Occasionally take Upjohn’s Citro Carbonate. This will be most helpful for this body.
-
(Q) As I can seldom get fish, and sometimes not enough vegetables, should I take any sort of vitamins? If so, what? (A) It will be very much better if there is still the attempt to obtain salt water fish.
Add vitamins A and D and B-1; taking the B-1 of evening or when ready to retire and the A, C and D of early morning - before other energies are taken into the system.
- (Q) Is milk good for me? (A) Not very good in its ordinary form. The prepared milk, as any compound that is already prepared, would be much better, use here, for this body, any of those - for instance, Nestle’s foods prepared in and with the milk; using such as the Carnation brand to prepare same. This will prove most effective for the body.
Also for this body, it would be very beneficial to take gingerale and cream - but one of morning and the other in the afternoon - but take some every day.
-
(Q) Is it alright to use the Salts, Cream of Tartar & Sulphur mixture whenever I feel the need of it? (A) It is well to use same. It is not habit forming, it will not injure the intestinal tract nor cause any great disturbance - if there is the nominal activity of the body.
-
(Q) Should I use the potato poultice over my eyes, even if I cannot use the violet ray? (A) Use the potato poultice but obtain the violet ray, from the Hamilton Beach Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
-
(Q) Should the rubs be kept in same manner as previously suggested? (A) These should be kept.
-
(Q) Are all organs functioning fairly well? and how may they be kept so? (A) As indicated there is a form of anemia. Hence the suggestion to have fish and fruits that supply the vitamins missing in the system. Add these that may be gathered at this particular period, and these will contribute to the helpful forces that may come with the keeping consistent with applications suggested.
-
(Q) The peculiar aching around heart, dull pain in back of head and nervousness, - is this a dangerous condition? (A) This is an overtaxing condition, but not necessarily dangerous. Very aggravating, but if the eliminations are kept and the colon area is kept cleansed, it should help materially.
In the mental attitude keep ever constructive forces, feeling and knowing the source of supply - of the spiritual and mental, as well as material forces.

R1. 10/2/43 [2843]‘s letter to GD:
… Ave., …, Ala.
Dear Miss Gladys,-
Again I am a bother to you. The Hamilton Beach people are not making the Double Eye Applicator.
Thought possibly you might know of some one who had had the same suggestions - and were not using it now and would like to rent or sell. In the meantime I will write other electrical companies.
One important question we forgot to ask, was who we could get to use the X-Ray. All the doctors who [635] inquired of, said they wouldn’t use it, and for her not to dare try it. If [779] lived here, I’ve no doubt he would understand it and have confidence and follow the instructions, and I don’t believe he would mind helping me out with it.
Please advise if you know where one can be found - and all you know about using one. Are they as dangerous as they claim they are?
With kindest regards to all
Sincerely, [2834]
R2. 10/5/43 GD’s letter to [2843]:
Mrs. [2843] …, Ala.
Dear Mrs. [2843]:-
Your Reading did NOT call for X-ray treatments. It is the Violet Ray - not even the Ultra-Violet - but the hand machine Violet Ray, that can be used with various applicators; for instance the bulb applicator, the sponge applicator, the eye applicator, the throat applicator etc. Do I understand that you have not secured the Violet Ray hand machine itself? Or do you have the Violet Ray and simply need the eye applicator? It may be possible for me to secure a machine in Norfolk through a friend who works in a wholesale electrical supply house, or the double eye applicator separately if you already have the machine. As you understand, this machine is a small one about the size of a electrically driven vibrator, and is sometimes used in beauty parlors, etc. The treatment is NOT dangerous in any sense. No wonder people tell you that the X-ray treatment is dangerous, for it certainly is and would only be used under the direction of a skilled electrotherapist (after a thorough diagnosis from a physician prescribing such treatment.) Your Reading did not suggest the X-ray at all.
Please let me know if you wish me to try to secure the hand machine Violet Ray itself, with the double eye applicator, or simply the eye applicator?
Hoping this does not confuse you more than ever and with kindest regards, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis
P.S. The Rdgs. suggested the violet ray for me 20 years ago, and I haven’t worn glasses since. So I know from experience what it can do. I borrowed a machine then, - wish I had one myself to send you. [GD:jf]
R3. 10/9/43 [2843]‘s letter to GD:
…, Alabama
My dear Miss Gladys -
We wish we had aired our dumbness and wrote you months ago, So much time would not have been lost.
I would indeed appreciate it if you can secure the necessary things for carrying out the eye treatment. I do not have either the violet ray machine or the double eye applicator.
Please let me know the price if they can be secured there, I am certainly hoping they can.
Thanking you for your sweetness for all the trouble I’ve been to you.
Sincerely, [2843]
R4. 12/6/43 [2843]‘s letter to GD:
My Dear Miss Gladys:
I regret having to worry you again. Mr. [779] of … has a hand Violet Ray machine with the general applicator, who will lend it to me if that is the machine needed to use with the double eye applicator.
Mr. […] thought I should write you again, as it is possible my letter to you went astray. Knowing your duties were so great, I have hesitated.
I accepted your offer to try to secure the Violet Ray hand machine and the Double eye applicator through a friend who works in the wholesale electrical supply house. I was interested in getting them through you because they would be the right things. Would it be possible for me to get another copy of the Reading that suggested the Double eye applicator of the Violet Ray and give me the price. Not the check reading. Thanking you I am
Sincerely, Mrs. [2843]
Am enclosing a little stamp money.
R5. 10/44 [2843]‘s letter to GD:
I am desperate. I have tried all roads and have not been able to locate a Double Eye Applicator of the violet ray. Have you any idea from whom I could buy or rent one.
If you have any copies of the excerpts from readings on Polio, please send me three.
Regret to bother you.
Hope all is well.
Sincerely, Mrs. [2843]
R6. 10/27/44 $1.00 received - sent Oct. Bulletin and note saying, “do not know where to obtain double eye applicator.” mv.
R7. 5/49 Letter gave news of various members of her family and expressed interest in progress in A.R.E.
