GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, there are a great deal of disturbances with this body. There are rather the complication of causes. And it will require time and patience. And it is the type of disturbance where there should be a series of applications made, and then a period of rest allowed where the body would remain out of doors and in pleasant surroundings for a month to two months, and then another series of similar treatments.
-
The disturbances, as we find, are physical, mental, pathological, psychological.
-
There is NOT the completed injury in the brain, though this lesion that is part of the disturbance prevents the use of the locomotories in proper coordinated ways or manners.
-
These, then, as we find, should be treated with a character of electrical forces. But here we may see an illustration and, if applied properly, a demonstration of that as we have given about and concerning life forces themselves; that certain elements are a part of the physical manifestation of the spiritual and mental forces, from a chemical reaction, - silver and gold. And these applied in their correct rations, in the very lowest form of electrical forces, will aid and stimulate the bringing about of corrective forces; and should be administered by such an one that gives the massage AND psycho- or physio-therapy. And suggestions should be made while the administrations are being given; not to antagonize, not to test, but as these applications are made we find that such suggestions will have a great deal of effect upon this body; and such an one as Reilly might give these.
-
DO NOT give electricity of the common term, or dynamic, but that of the static - or that made by the chemical composition for same in the Wet Cell Appliance.
-
The Wet Cell Appliance should carry Chloride of Gold in one treatment, and Nitrate of Silver in the next; so that (giving at least three treatments a week) one week there would be two treatments with the Gold, and the next week there would be two treatments with the Silver.
-
The attachments for the Gold should be: the small copper plate to the 9th dorsal vertebra, and the large nickel plate through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially (in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold to each ounce of Distilled Water; and use at lest six ounces of the solution) would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus; or, on this body, three fingers to the right from the navel center, and two fingers up from that area.
-
Attachments for the Silver should be: the small copper plate should be placed at the 4th lumbar, or the lumbar axis, while the large nickel plate through which the Silver Solution passes vibratorially (being a 2% solution, and at least six ounces of this) would be attached to the lacteal duct and umbilical plexus - the same as for the Gold.
-
This will necessitate there being different connections for passing into the solution bottles, you see; that is, do not use the same connections in the silver solution that have been used in the gold solution, see? And both of these connections should be taken out of the solutions when not in use; but should be put into the solutions about ten minutes before the treatment is to be given.
-
This treatment should be given by the one who gives the massage, you see; the appliance attached and then the massage given while the vibrations are passing through the body, you see; hence it should be attached from twenty-five to thirty minutes - at the time, and three times a week, alternating from the Gold to the Silver in the manner indicated.
-
The massage, of course, should be particularly in those areas along the upper portions of the spine, always massaging from the head towards the body, see? When the applications of the Appliance are made to the lower portion of the spine, go all the way down to same. When they are made to the central spine, or 9th dorsal, go up AND down both, - that is, come up from below TO that area where the Appliance is attached, and down from above to that same area, see? massaging the limbs also. Use peanut oil for the massage; just moisten the hands with this, or dip the fingers in same and massage into the flesh and along the spine.
-
Use the Appliance for fifteen days before changing the solutions, thirty days before recharging same. The charging solution for this Appliance should be a little different from the regular; that is, in these proportions; to the gallon and a half of Distilled or Rain Water:
Copper Sulphate…2 pounds, Sulfuric Acid C.P…1 1/2 ounces, Zinc…30 grains, Willow Charcoal…1/2 pound.
-
The food values should be those fully well balanced with calcium, iron, and especially the vitamins B-1 and the B-Complex. These are much preferable for the body, especially with these applications being given.
-
At least three times each week, then, supply these from the foods rather than the reinforced vitamins (though these reinforcements may be desirable if there is the inability of the body to assimilate foods that carry excesses or the full quantity of such vital forces).
-
These should include, then, such foods as these as an outline; though, to be sure, these are not all the foods that are to be taken:
-
Mornings - the yolk of an egg, buckwheat cakes, rice cakes or the like, or cereals that are reinforced; that is, whole grain cereals, either cooked or those ready prepared.
-
Noons - at least a portion of this meal should include lettuce and celery, and carrots - raw. Arrange these differently so that they do not become abhorrent to the body; sometimes in their regular state, other times grated, other times prepared in juice form. Then have soups, broths or the like, and these should include the oyster plant, celery, fowl, mixed vegetables - but not too much of the dried vegetables; though soy beans can be used at times, and lentils or such.
-
Evenings - at least three times a week have fish or sea foods of any character, fowl, and occasionally a little beef and lamb - but these seldom. Whole wheat breads and the like.
-
These are the activities, - and if these are followed persistently, - we will find results.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any static condition in bronchials? (A) No.
-
(Q) What exercise is advisable for lower limbs, besides the massage? (A) Just what the body is capable of taking; this will come a little bit later; not too much, just enough to have exercise for the body.
Do these things and then, when there has been a month of these treatments, have at least three to four weeks of rest from same, see?
And then begin again. And when beginning again, we would give further instructions.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 1/4/43 [437]‘s ltr. to HLC:
Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Hugh Lynn:
On the date of December 30th we had a reading for [2873]. I have discussed this reading with Dave Kahn and Dave suggested that it might be a very good idea if [2873] were able to come to Virginia Beach and have you supervise the treatments as suggested in the reading.
Dave suggested that inasmuch as you had done this for Tom Sugrue that perhaps you might be able to do it for [2873] who is a fine boy and who I know you will like.
[2873]‘s condition is the result of an automobile accident in which he sustained a brain injury. I wish that you would get a copy of the reading.
Dave thought that it might be possible for you to board [2873] and see him through for 30 days after which time his mother wants to take him to Florida or any place else deemed suitable.
Will you please advise me if you can undertake the above and what the various charges would be for board, osteopathic treatments, etc. so that I can give Mrs. [2090] an idea of what the total expense would be.
Hope this finds you well and with kindest regards to all the family, believe me.
Sincerely, [437]
P.S. [2873] could come to Virginia Beach about the 15th of January.
R2. 1/6/43 HLC’s ltr. to [437]:
Mr. [437] New York, N.Y.
Dear Mr. [437]
Your letter of January 4th, regarding the reading for [2873] arrived today. I secured a copy of the reading from our files and have gone over it carefully.
As I understand the treatments suggested there are four general divisions: (1) A Wet Cell Appliance carrying Gold and Silver. These appliances have been perfected from descriptions given in a series of readings devoted to them. You will find that they are used in two of the serious cases given in the book, THERE IS A RIVER; cases 4 and 5. This type of appliance has also been one of the main features of Tom Sugrue’s treatment. These appliances have been built and distributed under Reilly’s supervision at one time. He will under stand using it. (2) Massage while the appliance is attached to the body, and at the same time positive suggestions given by the person giving the massage. Such suggestions would deal with the mental and physical health of the body. (3) Diet. (4) General exercise.
The reading specifically recommends Reilly, probably because he can give an excellent massage as suggested in the reading, is positive in his manner, and knows the construction and methods of using the appliance.
I appreciate your asking me if it would be possible for me to supervise the treatments for this young man. This is evidently a most interesting and deserving case and it is always a privilege to see a reading carried out exactly as it is given. However, there are several difficulties involved. There is no one in Virginia Beach who could give the massage. For the last year I gave Tom’s massages myself, daily. An osteopath came out twice each week. The young osteopath who did this work for us is now in the Navy. The two older men with whom we have an association in Norfolk would be reluctant to come out - a masseur, who could not give the suggestions and doesn’t understand the Wet Cell Appliance wouldn’t do.
I cannot tell from the reading how much attention [2873] would have to have beyond the actual treatments. For two years I simply acted as practical nurse to Tom Sugrue, brought his food to him, bathed him, took him to the ocean for his sand packs, dressed him, etc. It was necessary for me to sleep in an adjoining room. All of this took place before I was married and had a baby; also, before I became actively involved in trying to carry the Beach Recreation program for service men in one hand and the promotion of THERE IS A RIVER in the other. I frankly don’t think I am in a position to handle the case properly.
A practical nurse there in New York with Reilly giving the Appliance, massage and suggestions seems to be your best procedure. Because of the importance of the suggestions while the massage and Appliance are given, be sure that Reilly, himself, handles the case.
Dad and I will be in New York on January 20th, for an open meeting at the McAlpin. We will stay there at the hotel through the 23rd. I will be glad to discuss the case in more detail with you at that time and do anything I can to assist in getting the treatments going properly.
I have taken the time to go into some detail regarding this situation so that you can understand my position. Thank you for considering the possibility of my being of help.
R3. 1/13/43 [437]‘s letter: “[2873] is in very fine shape and well able to handle himself and does not require any attention, except the actual treatments. He has been going to work regularly. The only difficulty [2873] is experiencing right now is a lack of coordination, particularly with regard to his extremities. If you go over the rdg., this will be given to you quite clearly.
R4. 1/25/43 Questions: Considering the desire of those concerned to have the treatments suggested in a previous reading carried out in or near Clearwater Beach, Fla., you will advise those responsible for the body in securing the services of Mrs. Pierce Townsend or someone else in that vicinity.
Give more definite suggestions as to just what the positive suggestions should be while the massage is being given?
Is there any more suitable location in Florida where these treatments may be successfully carried out.
Any further advice at this time.
