GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [2898].
-
As we find, there are disturbances that prevent the better physical functioning of the body. These have to do with what might be termed the storing of energies or vitality in the body; the lack of this; and/or it may be termed the battery or the vital forces being so depleted by the effect of improper coordinations between the eliminating channels of the body.
-
There are these specific manners in which used energies, toxic forces and drosses are removed from the body: through the alimentary canal, the respiratory system, the kidneys, and the activity of the perspiratory system.
-
These energies lacking, there become pressures in various portions of the body, or the toxic forces, and these used energies - or ash, or dross - produce pressures. These will eventually become static in some form or another unless removed.
-
Then, these are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2898] we are speaking of:
-
The blood supply indicates a poor circulation, or an incoordinated circulation between lungs, heart, liver and kidneys; and that there are those lacks in the superficial circulation carrying off drosses through these channels.
-
The effects produced upon the body are: a torpidity of the liver, a lack of a coordinated activity in drosses eliminated from kidneys, and an irregular activity at times in the pulsation; and tiredness, shortness of breath, and repressions through the lungs.
-
These at times also produce the effect of neuritic conditions in the extremities, or in the joints, or even the acute conditions through portions of the body at times.
-
Also the pressures that are produced upon the sensory system, or centers, give an accentuation in the activities of the organs of sensory system; as disturbance in the ears at times, those conditions through the eyes at times - these especially when there is any strain in the attempt to use same. The taste becomes accentuated; odors at times are rather disturbing to the body, and at others it is hard for the body to gain the proper equilibrium in this direction.
-
As we find, in making corrections for this body:
-
We would have regularly, once a week for at least six to eight, the general hydrotherapy treatments. These should include the sweats, being careful that the heat is not too much for the activity of the pulsation; hence these should be rather in the form of fume baths, in preference to raising the temperature too high or producing too great a respiratory or perspiratory activity for the disturbance in the respiratory system. Such fume baths would be followed by a thorough rubdown, after which there would be a thorough massage with the oils that are stimulating to the better circulation through joints, through the muscular forces of limbs and arms. For this body we would use this combination of oils, in these proportions:
Peanut Oil…3 ounces, Olive Oil…1 ounce, Rose Water…1/2 ounce.
Shake these together and massage thoroughly into the body, BEFORE the alcohol rub is given.
-
Occasionally also, include with these treatments the colonic irrigation; the frequency of which should depend upon the quantity of mucous indicated in the colon when the high colonic is given. Three of these should be sufficient, but this will depend upon the response the body makes and how well these are administered. They should not be too close together, but should be given in a manner as not to produce a strain on the body; that is, have the water body temperature, and in the first water put to each gallon a level teaspoonful of table salt and a level teaspoonful of baking soda. This does not cause irritation or a strain, if used properly. Then in the rinse waters, to a gallon put at least a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline.
-
After the first one or two general hydrotherapy treatments have been taken (not before), we would - under the direction of such an one as Waters - have three to six to ten osteopathic adjustments. Preferably we would have these about twice a week for the first four or five, and then they may be taken a week apart.
-
Be mindful that the diet is kept towards those things that are laxatives, - not too much grease nor too much of starches as combined with those things that are alkalizing or alkalin-producing. Then, do not eat white bread at the same meal when cereals or starches are used. Brown bread or toast is preferable. Rice and potatoes should not be taken at the same meal with these things, for this particular body. No two starches should be taken at the same meal, see? Have plenty of those foods that carry the vital energies of B-1 and the B-Complex. These are found, of course, in the yellow vegetables or fruits, or the reinforced cereals that are of the whole grain. Preferably, get these vitamins for this body in the foods, rather than in concentrated tablet or liquid form.
-
Do those things, and we will bring better conditions for this body of [2898].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why is there a hurting nearly all the time around my waist in front? (A) This incoordination of the circulation between the liver and the kidneys, and the pressure is upon the diaphragm area.
-
(Q) Will this treatment better the condition in my eyes? (A) The condition indicated in my eyes, - that is, through the organs of the sensory system, - is from a general debilitation. The applications suggested will stimulate better circulation to the eyes, ears, nose and throat, and thus will aid the eyes materially.
-
(Q) Is there a reason, and can I in any way remedy the “falls” or “knock downs” that every-so-often happen to me? (A) As we find, when the body is better, or more on the alert, these should gradually disappear.
-
We are through with this Reading.

R1. 2/24/43 [2898]‘s letter:
Washington, D.C.
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Va. Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cacey:
Have been wanting to write this receiving the reading, but my boss is away and I am much busier than when he is here.
…Was to the Medical Doctor last Friday (2/19/43) and told him I’d discontinue coming to him for shots for awhile. He suggested every three weeks (have been having them since Christmas every two weeks; before that for a year, every week). With taxes so high I shall have to just do one thing at a time so as soon as I can get arrangements made, will start on the treatment as given in the reading and will let you know the results.
Thank you for the reading; the more I read it the more I am convinced how truly the diagnosis is correct and I am very grateful.
Sincerely trust everything is straightened out for you folks by this time and assure you that outside of losing a little annual leave, which was good for me, no inconvenience came my way.
Very truly yours, [2898]
R2. 5/17/43 [2898]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Va. Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
It may be I wanted to give you a more perfect report that I haven’t written this letter before. Have had a few days when I’ve gone about my duties with old-time “zip”, and in many ways I know I’m better. The pain around the waist and the bad spot in region of the gall bladder isn’t so continuous and at times it isn’t there at all. Joints seem somewhat more loose but very painful; feet and knees affect the freedom of my stride - especially in the mornings when I start out.
To date have had three colonics. Not much mucous but decided acidity. Reaction was great weariness - last not so debilitating as first when I had to go to bed.
Seven fume bath treatments and oil rubs as indicated, by an operator recommended by Dr. Waters. Have three more of a course of ten coming to me and have thought of discontinuing them after that as the hot weather will soon be here when natural “sweating” comes at a much lower price. They have been very good though. Was all in the first two.
Ten osteopathic treatments by Dr. Waters. They are still painful but have helped me and I have been continuing one a week.
Have followed instructions as closely as several cancellations by the operators, permitted. Am not sure of the next step and will wait for your instructions, as to whether or not a check-up is necessary.
I want a life reading (can’t have both check-up and life right now - just one or the other) but know you are so busy that I’ll have it at your convenience. Would love to attend the convention in June but not sure if it is possible on account of home conditions. Thought if I can come at that time I might have the reading while there.
May I take enough of your time to tell you how grateful I am to have met Mrs. Poss, your friend and patron. She was mentioned in my physical reading in regard to where to go for treatments and since I contacted her we have really become friends. She is most delightful and so pretty. Thanks for the introduction.
Dr. Waters is also a remarkable character, filled with a universal love and understanding of humanity.
Kindest regards and best wishes.
Sincerely, [2898]
R3. 8/19/43 [2898]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Assn. for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Will you please list my name for appointment for a Life Reading.
Also tell me what to do in order that I may receive your literature, particularly the Bible lectures, and keep me posted as to the “doings” of the Association. Will appreciate information in this regard.
Am better physically. When I break a physical law, such as eating the wrong food (mostly too many sweets) the pain around the waist returns. My legs are too stiff and hurt too much for comfort but am getting along with them. Folks tell me I look lots better.
Haven’t taken any treatments since June 8. Am watching body elimination pretty well and the Washington weather, while debilitating, surely causes elimination through the pores of the skin, to my benefit.
Am still feeling my disappointment and loss by not being able to attend the Congress. Have been with Mrs. Poss a couple of times and got some of the high lights of the occasion from her and Mr. Poss, but our time together is always too short. I’ll be there next year!
Thanks for your attention to above request for listing and my very best wishes for your health, happiness and prosperity.
Sincerely, [2898]
R4. 9/23/43 Letter: ”…P.S. You’ll be glad to know I’m still better physically.”
R5. 1/29/52 Verbal report: “I believe that one of the reasons [2898] has so much trouble physically, is because she can’t make up her mind about her religious beliefs.”
R6. GD’s note: Miss [2898] referred Mrs. [3054] and Mr. [3178] for readings.
R7. 9/13/44 Her Life Reading appointment had to be cancelled due to EC’s illness.
R8. 3/21/60 Miss [2898] died suddenly. She was quite active to the last minute, and she was through the years and an interested participant in the A.R.E. work.

Background
B1. 1/5/43 [2898]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Through my friend Miss [813] I had the opportunity of learning about your work and the privilege of reading a few pages of your book. Am desirous to know the right thing to do to get my body in good working order and then to know the work I am to accomplish in this incarnation. In the event a brief history of the condition is required and in order to save time and unnecessary correspondence, the following is submitted:
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., Jan. 26, 1882 in sign of Aquarius. High strung; lots of acquaintances and a good many friends. For years interested in seeking wisdom and illumination through philosophy and religion; not a fanatic however.
My body has always been more or less out of order. Tonsillitis through childhood; tonsils removed about 25 years ago. Operation for toxic goiter about 19 years ago. Removal of appendix in November 1941; chronic case which became acute in September of ‘41. Seepage through the years caused adhesions which have given discomfort the past year but past month there is less pain in region of abdomen and solar plexus and better elimination.
Broken shoulder, broken elbow, minor rectal operation and a hunk cut out of sole of a foot, with a few cases of flue and the ordinary illnesses thrown in, complete the body ailments except arthritis, which pesters me all the time. Joints not deformed; knees worst; back of neck, lower spine and all joints affected to some extent. Chiropractic treatments during 15 to 17 years, along with all kinds of diets and so-called cures, have kept me loosened up so that I have carried on without too much howling. Do secretarial work in a Government office (Veterans Administration).
Since the appendix operation in November, 1941 have had weekly shots by an M.D. who has had cured cases of arthritis from such treatment, but to date I seem to be slowly progressively worse in the joints, though better otherwise.
I shall greatly appreciate your giving me an appointment and all instructions as to requirements in regard to same.
(Miss [813] told me I may use her name. She has left D.C. now.)
Very truly yours, [2898]
B2. 1/27/43 [2898]‘s letter to EC:
…Relative to special questions or specific conditions I present the following: I am interested to know what to do better to better these conditions or cure them. If a different treatment is indicated than the one the doctor treating me now uses, I shall find a doctor who is in sympathy or possibly not have to have any doctor at all. (Please do not be alarmed that I shall be arbitrary in this regard).
Eyes: Cannot read or sew at night. See zig-zag lines, especially at a moving picture or when working for long time under artificial lights. Eye doctor in December, 1942 said eye itself no worse than for a long time, except older. Lots of bursted blood vessels in eyes.
Around waist in front of body hurts nearly all the time. X-rays disclosed no gall stones or cancer, summer of 1942.
Too tired all the time.
Arthritis: All joints affected but knees slow me up terribly. The knees, along with a pain in abdomen on right side (appendectomy Nov. 1942) lame me so that walking, especially when I start out or get up after sitting awhile, is difficult and quite lame. Also affects my normally free gait.
Above may sound like an invalid but I do keep going with the use of the will, but am certainly not running on all cylinders. I really WANT to be entirely well and will cooperate if there is a method by which I can accomplish it. Therefore I shall follow your instructions to the letter if at all possible.
B3. 1/29/43 [2898]‘s letter:
…Is there a reason and can I in any way remedy the “falls” or “knock-downs” that every-so-often happen to me? For instance, just yesterday when I was out to Walter Reed Hospital on official business, as I was walking past the building I was to enter to transact the business at hand, the snow fell off the roof in a rush, I was in its path, and was knocked down flat on my face. No serious injury occurred, thanks be! Resultant scratches and lameness not at all pleasant however.
There seem to be no badly afflicted planetary reasons for these happenings and I’m just anxious to know if there is a fault in me that I can cure so as to avoid such things.
