GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - we have the body here.
-
As we find, there are conditions that prevent the better physical functionings. While they have to do with the locomotion, especially in the lower limbs, we find that their sources arise from an unbalanced condition in the chemical forces, as well as from pressures that have deflected or slowed eliminations - especially to the lower portion of the body.
-
In the blood supply we find quite a variation in the vibrations, or in the rate of circulation through parts of the body. We also find toxic conditions in same; indicating either sources of infection or pressure, or both, to portions of the system.
-
We find in the nerve forces the sources, though causes are more from subluxations and pressures in muscular and tendon forces, or those tendencies towards a neuritic-arthritic disturbance.
-
Thus those pressures as related to the locomotory centers, as well as those indicated in portions of the colon, have to do with the disturbance - and the sources or causes of the arthritic tendencies.
-
These produce the pressure in the joints, as well as in the muscular forces of this body.
-
As to the organs’ activities, - all of these indicate the natures or forms of disturbance, though applications that have been made are beneficial, and these alter or change the processes at times.
-
Then, in making administrations for helpful conditions, we find that two procedures are open to the body; either of these, dependent upon the choice of the body, or the choice of those in charge - or the physician in charge of the body.
-
But, in either case, necessity would call for the correcting mechanically (osteopathically) of those subluxations which exist in lumbar and sacral areas of the body, as well as the coordinating of the 9th dorsal and throughout the upper dorsal and cervical areas.
-
Then, we would either give the injections of the Bee Venom, under the direction of the physician, OR we would use the Epsom Salts Baths, and especially sitz baths and rubs and packs of same over those areas of the body where these disturbances cause pain in joints and limbs, especially. This would be the form of bath:
-
Use at least ten to twenty pounds of Epsom Salts to thirty gallons of water, as warm as the body can well stand, though not so warm as to cause disturbance to the heart’s circulation. So, it would require that there be one in attendance at the times these were taken. And we would take them at least ten days apart, see, until at least three of them are taken.
-
Follow each Epsom Salts bath with a Peanut Oil rub, especially over the areas from the 9th dorsal to the soles of the feet, the limbs, the body and torso, and especially the abdominal area and the sacral and lumbar area. Massage all the body will absorb. And this should be gently, thoroughly massaged into the body, while it is still warm from the Salts bath, see?
-
We would also be very mindful in the diet to leave out salt and sugar. Not too much starches, nor too much of those foods that carry quantities of silicon, but small quantities - and this altered; as: Not raw apples, but cooked apples may be included. Pears, but cooked pears, may be included. Such as prunes, plums, all characters of fruits may be taken that are not raw in their nature. Whole grain cereals, plenty of raw vegetable juices, especially such as carrots, lettuce, celery and the like. These may be combined. Also oranges and lemons together may be taken, and grapefruit. These should be practically the only raw fruits taken, see?
-
These as we find, if followed, will give bettered conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is the obstruction in the abdominal area, if any? (A) This is in the colon area. Thus the massages and the activities in the baths, and do occasionally have colonic irrigations - but these should be ONLY given by a professional, see?
-
(Q) Is this obstruction an impaction or tumor, or either? (A) This is as an accumulation, or a plethoric condition in the colon.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 2/28/43 Miss [2923]‘s ltr. to EC:
…, L.I. N.Y.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Thank you very much for your promptness in mailing me the report on your reading of my physical condition. It arrived Friday morning, - & your other letter yesterday.
I have gone over the report very carefully, but find I do not quite understand all the statements.
- In the 4th par. from bottom of page 1 [2923-1, Par. 4] is the phrase “indicating EITHER sources of infection or pressure, or both, to portions of the system.” Am I to understand that the source of infection is in the “plethoric condition in the colon” (referred to on page 3 - Answer 2) [Par. 18-A]?
The source of infection seems left a little indefinite. I do not know if it is related to the “unbalanced condition in the chemical forces,” page 1, par. 5 from bottom [Par. 3].
In par. 3 from bottom of page 1 [Par. 5], I seem not to get the meaning at all.
In the following par. (par. 2 from bottom) [Par. 6] are we to understand that “those pressures … have to do with the disturbance … and ARE (?) the sources or causes of the arthritic tendencies”?
Par. 1, top of page 2 [Par. 8]. “As to the organs’ activities, - all of these indicate the natures or forms of disturbance,” just what is referred to? Which “organs” & how do their activities “indicate” the natures or forms of disturbance? Does it mean that the WRONG action of certain ORGANS accounts for ALL the forms of disturbance seen in my body? If not all, - which natures or forms?
Can you tell me what foods, besides apples & pears, have much silicon? And if I am to avoid too much starches, then I suppose even the whole grain cereals should be taken only occasionally. Do you understand that ALL salt is to be left out of cooked vegetables, & ALL sugar out of cooked fruits? Do you know whether honey would be considered as a safe substitute for sugar?
My last question is in Ans. 1, top of page 3 [Par. 17-A]. What does “Thus” refer to, & should there be any massage or other activity IN the bath? I am sorry to be so stupid, but would deeply appreciate your throwing further light on the questions above.
Regarding the osteopath you refer to, is it better to go to him - since I presume he knows your work - than to my own, a man who lives near here, & is very capable & very open-minded? In other words I know Dr. Latimer [Omar C. Latimer, D.O.] would follow your instructions, & report to you. Dr. Coulter may be more experienced in working with you, but time, gas & tires involved in frequent trips to N.Y. are items to weigh in the balance.
Again, I want to express my thanks to you, Mr. Cayce, and my heartfelt appreciation to you for your help, and especially for relieving my mind by saying I have no tumor. I am HOPING my doctor in Boston will be guided by your diagnosis. If he does not agree with you I still won’t submit to an operation. I will let you know what he says.
Sincerely & gratefully, [2923]
R2. 5/3/43 EC’s ltr. to Miss [2923]:
Dear Miss [2923]
Yours of the 28th. I may be quite wrong, as am not a Dr., and know very little of anatomy save what have gotten in the information through the years, but think your reading should be fairly easy to understand. Let’s put it all together as to causes and etc. 1st the chemical unbalance is the 1st cause, then a subluxation in the area of the locomotory centers, combined with the chemical unbalance causes the Arthritis. The pressure in Locomotory has also gradually caused disturbance in Colon, so each becomes a contributory cause, or each works together to cause the disturbance.
This I think you will find verified in each of the notations you ask about.
Might I suggest this - you take the reading to your own Osteopath, let him read it and then examine the body, and see if he doesn’t find this verified by the conditions he finds.
The Osteopath suggested is one who has handled many case[s], where readings have been given, and is why he was suggested, but sure use your own Osteopath if he will co-operate; to be sure if the Osteopath does not find the conditions as suggested - would certainly disregard the information altogether. If however he finds them as suggested - then the manner of application for helpful influence, should be followed just as indicated.
Now I hope this answers your questions, and do hope you will get as wonderful help as so many others say they have from following the suggestions made.
Thank you and hoping to have been the means of help,
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
Would like to have name and address of your Osteopath, and any questions from him.
R3. 3/10/43 Her friend Miss [2932] obtained a Physical Rdg. via her recommendation.

B1. 2/14/43 Letter: “My trouble with my knees had been diagnosed as progressive arthritis; and besides this I have an abdominal obstruction which may be an impaction, or a tumor or both, but has not yet been diagnosed by the doctor, as I have only recently discovered it. Has this obstruction any bearing on the arthritis? Would colonic irrigations and osteopathy help?”
