This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of March, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. […] (sister) writing the request for Mrs. [2945], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by her friend Mrs. Henry Winogrand, through Mr. David E. Kahn - (phone request originally coming from Mrs. Winogrand).

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - we have the conditions here respecting [2945].

3. As we find, if there would have been much accomplished, this should have been done some time ago. Conditions are rather serious; and there are such accumulations through the system that draw on the vitality until there are other complications - in the loss of vitality, in the speed with which there is the necessity of the circulation - through the temperature produced by the system’s attempting to create resistances.

4. Unless there is quick response, this must grow more serious.

5. While those administrations of X-Ray have in many ways retarded, these as we find have not produce curative effects. They have allayed.

6. With the X-Ray treatments farther apart, we would use every other day the Ultra-Violet with the projection of the green glass between the ultra-violet and the body; and more reaction may be had in the character of the hormones produced in the blood supply.

7. This should be given for at least a minute and a half to two minutes, but with the green glass projected about twelve to fourteen inches from the body, between the ultra-violet and the body itself.

8. The X-Ray treatments would be farther apart, you see, while the ultra-violet would be given - or may be given - every other day.

9. Also if there could be administered the tea from Plantain, this would supply an element in the body-forces that will be beneficial to the body. As to whether this may be obtained sufficiently quick may be a question. Preferably the Plantain should be green. It may be obtained from the Asheville, North Carolina crude drug company. [S. B. Penick & Co., crude drug house, Asheville, N.C.] This added with the others, will be beneficial - if it can be obtained quick enough.

10. Obtain the green Plantain; the tenderer the leaves the better, of course. Pour two ounces of boiling water over about two drams of the Plantain and let it set for some ten minutes. Strain, drain off, and fit - by cooling - to be palatable. This amount may be taken at one time, and every day.

11. It would be better if this Plantain Tea is in the system when the ultra-violet is given.

12. For the bed sores, and the broken tissue, the application of Ichthyol Ointment will be the more beneficial to the body, if there are the opportunities from the other applications for this to prove of a beneficial effect to the body.

13. The causes of these, or the sources, are the conditions created by unbalancing of the chemical forces of the body. The accumulations of the lymph pockets that produce the tumors which consistently arise in bursa even in the muscular forces, as well as in the tissues in the body, are from the attempts of the system to build unresistances; but these are gradually becoming more of the consuming nature in their effect upon the body.

15. (Q) What is causing this paralysis? (A) It is the pressure of the bursa, or upon the bursa of the locomotory centers.

16. (Q) If these treatments are followed, how long should it take to see results? (A) As indicated, unless these are done soon there will be no need for them.

17. (Q) Is there any special doctor in Chicago who would be interested? (A) We haven’t the doctors in Chicago. All should be interested in this special case, because of its unusualness.

18. (Q) Can anything be done to make me more comfortable? (A) Only sedatives or narcotics will make the body more comfortable.

19. (Q) Would it be possible to stop the tumors from coming back? (A) This would depend upon the response, but these are the purposes of that being indicated here.

20. (Q) Has the past deep therapy X-Ray treatment had any harmful effects on me? (A) As indicated, it has allayed. It has NOT been curative.

21. (Q) Is the numbness concentrated in the hips and rectal region an indication of anything wrong there? (A) Only the accumulations of the tumors in the soft tissues through the areas, and these are becoming more harmful in their effect upon the body.

22. (Q) Is there anything else besides the Plantain and the Ultra-Violet that might be suggested? (A) As indicated, these are to be ADDED to those administrations being given.

Do these things that have been indicated, and they offer the greater hope for beneficial effects to the body. But these are very serious conditions, and growing weaker from the insistence of the system attempting to create blood supply and producing complications in the deeper circulation.

TO, WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

I have known Mr. Cayce for over 25 years. I introduced his name to the Winogrands. I am certain that if you will wire Asheville at once for the Plantain, and if you cannot obtain the green plate glass in Chicago, if you will wire my New York office at 244 Madison Ave., New York City, my secretary Mrs. Brown will telephone Dr. Reilly of Radio City, of Reilly’s Health Service, and he will be able to obtain the glass for a cost of about $2.50. It is attached by wire over the violet ray lamp, as stated in the reading. I was operated on by Dr. Babcock of Temple Hospital, Philadelphia, Penna., 3 years ago because of the Readings and the results came exactly as stated by Mr. Cayce. I used this lamp with the green glass and everything healed perfectly and have had no reactions since.

If you will give this a fair trial and follow the Readings as given, I feel the patient will be helped and good results will be obtained. I am sorry it was not done sooner, but however where there’s life there certainly is hope, and I have seen hundreds of cases just as far advanced as this one that have had results and many of them are living today. I would suggest your getting a Check Reading in about a week or ten days after you have done everything that has been told to do in the present Reading.

I am leaving for New York today, but if we can be of any assistance in any way, get in touch with Mr. Cayce or with me in New York.

R2. 4/3/43 [2945]‘s letter to EC:

Saturday

Dear Mr. Cayce -

You must excuse my writing because I am flat in bed - really on my side flat in bed.

We are so anxious to carry out your instructions - but are frustrated at every turn. We wired the drug company in Asheville as soon as we received your report (Tues.) - & TODAY received a letter from their Chicago office saying they did not have Plantain tea - & that they were wholesalers & did not sell to individuals anyway.

The report frightened me - & since I did not understand it very well I called Esther Winogrand in Celina, Ohio whom Mr. Kahn had already called & explained the report to her so I had a better understanding.

Mr. Kahn told Esther that he was sending the green glass attachment & that has not arrived either.

We have known about one tumor for some time - but the nerve doctor in charge of my case sent me home for a month to get the bed sores well first & he definitely does not want me to have more X-ray because that is what he thinks is causing the paralysis - & says if I have any more it will finish my nerves.

However - I decided - bed sores be hanged - we can take care of those any time - so called my husband in Chicago & my other doctor - L. M. Rosenthal - & made arrangements to go back into Chicago next week & start X-ray treatments again. I hope it goes through and Dr. [illegible handwriting] doesn’t interfere.

I have always responded to X-ray treatment immediately but your insistence that I have the Plantain tea - so quickly - & our inability to get it is what worries me. If Plantain is what I think it is our yard is full of it in the summer time

• it’s a constant fight to keep the “weed” out of the grass. In fact one of the last things I did while I could still walk last summer was sit down in the yard and dig Plantain - so could be in the sunshine.

As a general rule I feel very good and am able to be up and dressed and enjoy life - but having to stay flat in bed - with these bed sores about has me worn out.

I have always been interested in spiritual studies - & since I have been ill have read everything I could get my hands on. I enjoyed the philosophy part of “There Is a River” very much. I have read a lot of Rosicrucian books so had a previous acquaintance with much of it - but their books are so deep - especially their cosmo-conception.

I am on their healing list for prayer and in our correspondence was told that this phase of my illness was karmic - but that once recognized and admitted the battle was half over.

I have great faith in God - and feel positively that this opportunity to know you and work with you would not have been given me if it were not meant to be successful and I have always felt that I WOULD BE HEALED and walk again.

Will you please give me an appointment for a check reading - and I hope by that time treatment will be underway and there will be definite improvement.

1. Where can we get the Plantain tea?
2. Shall I continue the sulfa, iron & vitamins B?
3. Should there be any change or addition to treatments?
4. Is it alright to have extra violet with out the attachment until we can get it?

R3. 4/5/43 EC’s letter:

Dear Mrs. [2945]:

Thank you for yours of the 3rd - do hope you can get the suggestions carried out, the best way to get the plantain from Penick is to get some local druggist to order it, to be sure they as a wholesale drug house would not send to an individual, but think you can get it from them by having your local druggist order it. You have to get the plantain leaves and make the tea yourself, it is told in the information how to make it.

Hope you have the green glass before now - the Ultra Violet is not like X-ray at all, but do not use the Ultra-Violet with out the Green Glass. Make a world of difference as to the effect it will make if you are unable to get the plantain, get them to send you fresh tender Mullein, and make a tea the same way, as with the plantain, will have to order the same way.

Would not take X-ray treatments if you can get the Ultra-violet with green glass. Yes - plantain is what grows in many yards - it, the tea from same, will heal x-ray burns when nothing else will, should be coming up now, know it is in the hills of N.C.

Have you been able to get the ointment for the bed sores as suggested Ichthyol ointment?? Do give that a try, am sure will help. Don’t take any thing if you continue taking the sulpha drug in any form, you need the vitamins, let’s have at least a week or ten days of the suggested treatment before check up, but will get it in for you at that time. Many hundreds are asking for readings now who have read the book. KEEP your Faith in GOD, know your Karma, as some call it, can be taken by CHRIST if you will let Him.

R4. 4/15/43 Elizabeth O. Brown’s letter: “I have been unable to obtain the green glass that Mrs. [2945] needs for the lamps that they are going to use on her. I understand that there is a Dr. Taylor in N.J. [Wm. D. Taylor, N.D.] who supplied this glass to Mr. Kahn, but I haven’t his initials and I don’t know how to reach him. I wonder if you have his address in your files because I would like to get this glass for this woman if possible.”

R5. 5/19/43 [2945]‘s letter to David Kahn:

Dear Mr. Kahn:

Esther forwarded your letter to me and thanks so much.

We have not received the green glass attachment yet that your secretary ordered from some place in New Jersey.

My husband tried every electrical, medical and hospital supply house in Chicago for one, but they did not have one - neither had they ever heard of one.

We can use the lamp belonging to the doctor here but Mr. Cayce said not to use it without the attachment. So we haven’t started yet.

There is lots of plantain growing in our yard here so I have been drinking the tea. I have a cup full every day. What is the purpose of the tea and what does it do? If you think I should or could drink more please tell me.

I am in bed and it is difficult for me to write. I have wanted to write Mr. Cayce - but just haven’t been able to get to it. If you think he would be interested in hearing from me perhaps you would include this the next time you write to him. I’m always about ten letters behind and never seem to get caught up.

I’m feeling pretty good and will surely enjoy hearing from you if you have the time and the urge to write.

R6. 5/22/43 David E. Kahn’s letter to [2945]

Dear Mrs. [2945]

I have telephoned the plate glass people again and it seems that they did not have the glass in stock and it had to be made up specially and it is supposed to be ready this coming Wednesday, at which time they have promised to send it to you special delivery. If you have not received it by Friday of this coming week, or at the latest Saturday, please write us again and we will get after them then. But we feel reasonably sure after our conversation with them that it will be sent out this week.

I feel sure once you have received this glass you will be helped a great deal as it has done a lot for a lot of other people.

Plantain is a healing tea which has also done a great deal for a number of people I have known about for a great many years. I am asking Mr. Cayce to write you more about it as soon as he gets your letter and mine. I want to get off a few words to you anyway.

I feel that you are going to be helped a great deal but you must remember it takes a lot of courage, patience and perseverance to build back something which has been run down. This is true of our bodies and minds as well as automobiles or any electrical equipment. I know you are a good fighter from what I have heard about you - so keep up your courage and fight with all your might. Mind is a great builder and it’s wonderful for people who have the courage to let nothing prevent the mind from commanding the body to get well. There is an old saying that “God helps those who help themselves” and I feel He will keep you and answer your prayers so that you, too, can get well again and enjoy life for many years.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

We have just finished reading your very fine book sent to us by our friend Mrs. Henry Winogrand, whose husband is a friend of David Kahn. Mrs. Winogrand has arranged for you to give us a reading next Monday, March 29th.

Your book has given us new hope for my sister [2945]. Mrs. [2945] has been paralyzed from the waist down for the past nine months. She is so young, only twenty-seven, and so brave. She has always been deeply religious, and is really the finest person I have ever known.

Her trouble started with the birth of of her baby four years ago. When the baby was born we discovered that she also had a tumor. The baby died. The tumor was removed by surgery. Several months later the tumor reoccurred, and was successfully treated by exray. Since that time until her paralysis we felt that she was going to be fine. She has always been under the care of the finest doctors in Chicago. Now we need more help and feel that you are the answer to our prayers.

[2945] will be home at the time of your reading at … Street, …, Indiana. There is a possibility of her being in the Chicago Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, at the time; but we will notify you by wire if that is the case. She is now in that hospital, room … but we hope to bring her home this week.
