This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office, of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of April, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2955], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by her son, […], through Mr. [1156].

Time of Reading 10:40 to 10:55 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Penna.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the entity here, [2955].
-
As we find, the disturbing conditions that cause the greater distress are the lack of the vitality in the nerve forces of the body to keep the resistances in the reactions through the locomotory centers of the body.
-
This, we find, is not from those disturbances ordinarily considered the source of such disorders in the body, but rather from minor subluxations which have caused a suppression in the supplying of energies to the body from the assimilated conditions, or from the assimilations of the body.
-
These, then, are the disturbances as we find:
-
In some time back there was a wrench, or a suppression in the areas of the 3rd, 4th and 5th dorsals, that has gradually slowed the circulation through the arms. This has also involved the nerve coordination between the 3rd and 4th cervical, with the nerve supplies and the bursa in the areas in the ganglia to the lower part of the lumbar axis.
-
Hence we find a slowing of the circulation, as combined from these subluxations, and the depleting of those pressures in the blood supply, as to cause insufficient activity to the nerve and blood force to the extremities of the body.
-
These, then, exist: There is a slowing of the circulation in heart, liver, lungs and kidneys. This tends to form poisons, or toxic conditions, that alter or change about; slowing the eliminations through the alimentary canal.
-
In the specific conditions it produces tiredness to the body, the acute reactions in organs of the sensory system; the reflexes to the arms and hands, the lack of the ability to grasp or to hold things.
-
We find in the lumbar a heaviness across the lower portion of the sacral area and the limbs, the hips, the knees and the feet at times giving disturbance or troubles.
-
These are the conditions as we find with this body.
-
Also there has been a slowing up in the functioning of the organs throughout the system.
-
As we find, in making administrations, these we would apply:
-
We would have at least eight to ten osteopathic adjustments, but have these only once a week. This will not be in agreement with most of the osteopaths, but do it in this manner if you would have the best results. These would be once a week, say on Tuesdays.
-
Also once a week, - say on Fridays, - we would have a thorough massage by a masseuse; using the Fume Baths with Witchhazel; not the dry heat cabinet, you see, but the wet heat - from the fumes of Witchhazel in the cabinet and settling over the body. Following such a Fume Bath, massage the body with a little pine oil in the water that may be used in the rub along the spine and over the body.
-
Along with the massage, it would be well to have at least one or two colonic irrigations - during the period of taking these, you see.
-
The corrections osteopathically are to be made in the areas indicated; especially in the upper dorsal areas, and then coordinate the cervicals; then the correction in the lumbar and sacral areas, coordinating the upper dorsals and cervicals with those corrections.
-
And these, as we find, especially with one of the osteopathic adjustments and one of the hydrotherapy treatments with massage each week, for at least ten weeks, should bring much better conditions for the body.
-
Take one on Tuesdays, the other on Friday, or that ratio. DO NOT take them, for this body, on the same day.
-
Do use the Radio-Active Appliance to cause rest for the body.
-
Do take the combination of vitamins such as the Purity Cross brand. While this is quite a combination, if taken properly it will be very beneficial. Take one each day for about three days in succession, then leave off for three days. Then next take one on one day and leave off for the next. Then take one each day for three days, leave off three, and so on. Preferably take these in the evening, when ready to retire.
-
Do keep up the eliminations.
-
In the diet, have plenty of the whole grain cereal; plenty of citrus fruits, but not at the same meal with the cereals.
-
Eat plenty of liver, fish and fowl. These should be taken some each week, two or three times a week.
-
Complying with these, we will make better forces for this body, [2955].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes the nervous stomach condition? (A) Lack of proper assimilation and, from various centers of the body - through the hypogastric and pneumogastric, the calling for supplies for the body when there isn’t sufficient supply. Thus we have a nervous indigestion.
Do these, and we will make for better conditions for this body.
- We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/15/43 Dr. Marion Dick’s ltr.: “Mrs. [2955] is doing very well.”
R2. 5/26/43 Letter: “My 16 treatments are not quite up yet - I have 2 more as prescribed by you, but I feel possibly it is time to have a Ck. Rdg. and find out why my hands are still asleep, heavy, and full of prickles. This was my one and greatest desire to be rid of. In the meantimes, however, going to Dr. Marion Dick at your suggestion has proved to be the biggest treat I have had, in all of my very full and active 64 yrs, of life. Dr. Dick, her husband - blind from World War #1, Dr. Smith - the two pretty attendants, Rhoda Dick and Miss Wade, all give you thorough treatments, but what counts more, they give of their own interest. You are more than just a body, a soul comes in for a big share of sympathetic attention. There I met your patient Mrs. [2956]. She is indeed a brave woman and so eager over you and your diagnosis of her case.
“I am better in many ways. My spine is looser and rid of many sore spots. My hands flexible and the terrible knuckles have gone down. I can put my hands flat on the table. Back of the neck hardly stiff at all, but the hands are still numb, asleep, prickle, and I am pretty tired of them. I know it takes time and I will be patient, for you have done so much for me already.
“I hope through the hot summer you will let me off a little on my treatments at 5041 Spruce St - the trip to and fro is mighty hot. I hope you will say MORE DIET, MORE VITAMINS, or SIT IN THE SUN - or, or, ANYTHING so I keep the gain I have made, don’t bore the family, and send the prickles out to sea.”
R3. 6/3/43 Letter quoting Dr. Dick: “I am very well satisfied with the improvements Mrs. [2955] had made. Her arthritis
- knuckles swollen as they have been for years - is much better, her nerves much better, and her physical condition as a whole markedly better. The numbness and tingling in her hands and fingers still continues. I would appreciate any advice as to any further treatment that could be given, or if we should continue the present treatment.”
“Dr. Dick is eager for suggestions - Thank you, Mr. Cayce, for your help so far - and pray God we may discover cause of these rebellious hands of mine.”
- Should present treatments be continued?
- Any advice as to further treatment to eliminate numbness and tingling in hands and fingers?

Background
Background
B1. 3/15/43 Letter: “My son, Lt. […] brought me your spell binding story, THERE IS A RIVER, and has begged me to write you for help in my present condition.
”[…] was on night watch in New York ‘Personal’ with Mr. [849]‘s brother [1156] who told of the marvelous help you gave him…Mr. [849]…when he was smitten with arthritis.
“So I send you my appeal for help, realizing that God has much work for me to do - although I am well along…65 on the 12th of June…and that I don’t want to grow any worse and so be unable to be a companion to my husband, to take care of my grandchildren who live near me for the duration, and my three sons in the Navy who need their mother’s support in many ways.
“To be brief…I have hands which are always asleep; they feel as if the circulation has stopped and were full of needles and pins. I drop everything I pick up and cannot distinguish what I touch if I am not looking at the article. It takes me twice as long to dress, as my hands just won’t function.
“I started last May 1942 and had my teeth out. The doctors said in 6 months you will be better, but I am not. And now my arms feel so heavy to lift. My handwriting speaks for itself - just scrawls.
“I have utter faith in you because I believe that God works in mysterious ways. We have healing services at our Episcopal Church but I haven’t availed myself to them. But I know, dear Mr. Cayce, if you could but find the time to give me a ‘reading’ I should become whole again. Any time you say, sir, and you can let me know how much (that subject I know you dislike talking of).
“Please help me. Affectionately, Mrs. [2955], or…as most people call me…’Grandma.’
“P.S. I am thrilled over your way of reading the Bible through in a year. I shall try it yet.”
B2. 3/20/43 [2955]‘s letter: “Thank you for your prompt reply to my letter asking you to help me. Your letter was so friendly, it made me very happy…
“Tell me when and what I am to do…please. I shall pray for strong faith on my side that my hands, arms and neck may be restored to their proper circulation.
“I am reading your book, THERE IS A RIVER, slowly. It is far too interesting to hurry through.”
B3. 3/25/43 “April 6th will be most satisfactory, and at that appointed time I shall stay in my room, relax and read my various Daily Helps, particularly my Bible, and shall pray that I may do my part to help you during the Reading.
“I am telling my son, Lt. […], of the time and asking him to give us his trust and belief, through prayer; also asking [1156] to do the same.
“No further requests as far as my condition concerned: Sleeping hand, stiff back of the neck, and a nervous stomach
- that’s always been so!”
