This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of April, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2957], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through Mrs. […].

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - we have the body here, called [2957].
-
As we find, conditions have been and are rather of a complex nature.
-
These we find arise both from pathological and psychological conditions, and the pathological are in part - the main part - the result of the psychological conditions.
-
While there is not a derangement, there ARE periods of lapsing into the incoordination between sympathetic reflexes and the central nervous system reflexes. And this causes the greater part of the weakness.
-
Parts of this are escapes of the body-mind.
-
These, then, must be taken into consideration when administrations would be made for the body.
-
That there are tendencies for accumulations into pockets in the lymph circulation is indicated by the acute conditions which arise at times through the areas of the lymph circulation; as in abdominal area, as in parts of the lung and throat, as in the head; and as found to be existent in a more acute form in cysts on parts of the body, especially in the head area.
-
For these, - disregarding other conditions, - we would apply a poultice of Glyco-Thymoline, as a pack; using three to four thicknesses of gauze thoroughly moistened and applied to these cysts - warm; not hot but warm. Change the application every twenty minutes, doing this for about an hour each day.
-
When there is acute pain, as in the throat or in the bronchi, or edge of trachea, or in the abdomen, the application of the Glyco-Thymoline packs will also relieve these tensions.
-
We would have, for this body, the hydrotherapy treatment as combined with a very light electrical treatment. This, the electrical treatment, will be rather severe for the body the first two or three times. For, this should be applied through the body making the massages over head and down the spine, and over portions of the body-muscular forces, but coming away from the head at all times. Not too strong with this, else it may cause too great a rebellion in the body.
-
In the hydrotherapy should be included a good sweat, not with dry heat but rather the fume bath cabinet sweat; for the dry heat would be too draining on the body. For the fumes use an equal combination of witchhazel and rose water, or a teaspoonful of each in a pint of water that would form the vapor to settle over the body, see?
-
Following such a fume bath there should be a thorough body rub, all over the body, down the limbs and away from the head for this body, even plumb to the soles of the feet. Let the rubbing be AWAY from the body when the limbs are massaged, see?
-
After the body is thoroughly relaxed by this, THEN there would be the passing of the electricity through the body, through the hands of the one making the application to the body of a gentle massage, see? This would come especially along the spine, down the arms and lower limbs.
-
Then, as to the natural activities of the body:
-
Go into the open as oft as practical, but in company with those that are not too sympathetic, but with the attitude that the body may HELP SOMEONE ELSE! in its conversation and in its activity.
-
In the diets keep closer to those foods that are easily assimilated; whole grains, plenty of fruits and vegetables, not too much of meats but plenty of sea foods and fowl - these are preferable for the body.
-
And keep that attitude of being constructive.
-
And when these have been applied, if the body will turn its mind loose, we will find better conditions for this body - called [2957].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What has caused the exhaustions which strike without warning? (A) The tendency for the accumulation of lymph pockets through the body. When these cause acute pains, apply the three or four thicknesses of gauze saturated with the Glyco-Thymoline, full strength, then covered with an oil cloth or the like to hold the warmth and to prevent spreading of the liquid.
-
(Q) Could it be that the psychic ability (such as it is), denied proper outlet, is draining my vitality? (A) As indicated, this is more of an escape. The psychic self, of course, plays an important part in the pathological condition. Thus we would RID the body of these disturbances through the low electrical forces, see?
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/8/43 Friend Mrs. […]‘s letter: “Please forgive my delay in acknowledging the reading for [2957]. We are very much involved in active living as is everyone, of course. We felt the insight you gave to be helpful and splendidly reasonable. The line of diagnosis we were following practically fitted the needs as you stated them. What I wanted was further knowledge of deep, hidden problems if such were present. The treatment suggested has been more or less the work she has been having all winter. Stimulation of the circulatory system in persistent application. I wish you could know the man who is helping her, Harry Barnhart. It is a form of breathing power which re-adjusts cell life - sound, pitch, interval, breath under his guidance. She (and I too) have taken the work daily (Mon. - Fri.) since October. Amazing results. You must meet each other next winter. Mr. Barnhart has read “There is a River” with deep interest. So has Claude Bragdon, one of his intimate friends, a distinguished man. New book of his coming out soon on phases of yogi things. Both men about your age. Miss […] had no reply from reviewer to whom she wrote about his crude review of the book. I guess there was nothing to reply. She had him down!
“Letters from [son] still state that all is well so far with him. I trust you have heard from your son.
“Thank you for your interest. I am thankful that the illness from which [2957] is slowly recovering does not stem from awful somethings. Her exhaustion nearly cost her her life but she seems to be energizing at long last.
“With best messages to your family,” Cordially, […]
R2. 5/1/64 Mrs. [2957] wrote requesting a copy of her Physical Rdg. saying: “It is so heartening to find people awakening to all that this great man, Edgar Cayce, and his works stood for.”
Background
Background
B1. Questions submitted:
- What has caused the exhaustions which strike without warning?
- What should I do to build myself into dependable health?
- Could it be that the psychic ability (such as it is), denied proper outlet, is draining my vitality?
B2. 3/23/43 Case history and ques. submitted by self: “Physical health from childhood up: A. Profound and depleting exhaustions. Frequently concrete illnesses severe jaundice, very weak knees & ankles - sprained both ankles 8 times each in one year.
Unexplained attacks of deep sleep suggestive of sleeping sickness but not that, tied up with severe headaches. At 6 or 7 years of age was the deep sleep - also much screaming in sleep. At 19 years of age black mole on right arm developed into cancer - small one. No further trouble after removal.
B. Environment from childhood up: Always subjected either to misunderstanding family or husband - harsh punishment and scorn.
C. From childhood to present time psychic consciousness manifesting itself in various ways - pre-knowledge of events, visions, voices, unbelievably beautiful, color and music seen and heard in sleep, etc.”
B3. 3/25/43 Notes from friend Mrs. […]: “Two cysts, size of lima bean; one at base of throat over windpipe; one on left side of head 1 1/2 inches above ear - appeared 13 years ago - quick growth in past 2 yrs.”
