GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2974].
-
Now as we find, conditions here are rather in that state where it might be said that the body is not so very ill, and yet not well at all.
-
And the feeling of indisposition has much to do with the incoordination of the circulation between physical impulses, or organic disturbances, and the activity - on the reflexes - to the sensory system.
-
Thus we find those conditions in which there is the lack of coordination of vibrations given off by the central circulation.
-
And the nervous system reflects or responds to that condition.
-
Thus we have those disturbances in heart, lungs, liver, kidneys. Not that all are diseased, but this circulation being at a dis-ease, we find these reflexes:
-
The tendency for insomnia at times, a tendency at times to be easily upset; feeling easily hurt, “toucheous,” wanting to be alone - and yet seeking something that it does not find.
-
This as we find arises primarily from a condition that exists in the glandular forces of the body.
-
Then, if the glands were purified - or set in activity as to cause proper functioning, by proper stimulation in those centers from which impulses are received for coordination between cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems - we would find the body responding.
-
And then, with that attitude of forcing its self somewhat to become more active in the creative or helpful forces, we will bring much bettered conditions for this body.
-
As to the manner in which there may be brought about these corrections:
-
First, we would take internally one drop of Atomidine in half a glass of water each morning before any meal is taken, for five days. Then leave off five days. Then take two drops each morning for five days.
-
Then leave off.
-
And begin then with osteopathic adjustments, with particular reference being given to the lumbar axis, 9th dorsal, 6th, 7th, 4th and 5th dorsal, and throughout the cervical system. These adjustments should be given rather in the order given, but relaxing the tautness through the sacral and the lumbar areas, and then relaxing - not making adjustments but relaxing - through the 9th dorsal area, extending, of course, to the 10th, 11th and 12th also, - and then relaxing through the area between the shoulders, on down to the 6th and 7th dorsals; then we may make corrections necessary through the upper portion of the spinal column. We would take these twice a week, for at least ten to twelve of such adjustments.
-
In the diet, - beware of combinations in which there is too much of starches or too much of white breads, or macaroni or cheese, or white potatoes. Have more of the whole grain cereals. Use brown bread, a great deal of sea food.
-
And keep better eliminations.
-
The exercises we would take such as walking in the open.
-
And these as we find will prove the manners to remove those general tensions and inclinations for the accumulations of tautness in the muscular forces, in extremities, and the general “all over” feelings that are experienced by the body.
-
DO take up some special hobby. Do entertain, and be entertained, more.
-
And we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

DR. EDWARD T. WHITE Osteopathic Physician First National Bank Building CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Ass’n for Research and Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce;
Last April Mrs. [2974] came to me with reading suggesting treatments for her condition. I have followed your suggestions as far as possible, but have not been able to treat her twice a week, as suggested, because of gasoline shortage and distance from …, but I want to tell you that she has shown much improvement in her condition in spite of the handicap.
She brought over this week the book, “There is a River”, which I have just finished reading and I am more than interested.
I have been having some trouble for the past five years and would like to have a physical reading with advice as well as a Life reading if possible.
I was born in Norfolk, Va. June 20, 1892. Please advise me what steps to take to secure these readings and send me bill for same. I hope to be able to come to Norfolk some time this summer to visit my people and at that time I would like to meet you.
Sincerely yours, [signed] Edward T. White, D.O.
[Handwritten:] P.S. I have a prominent patient, […], who suffers with severe headache. If I can get proper diagnosis & treatment for him it would be worth while. E.T.W.
R2. 2/23/44 EC’s letter:
Edward T. White, D.O. Osteopathic Physician First National Bank Bldg. Charlotte, North Carolina
Dear Dr. White:
Your letter of February 9th has been received.
I have been away from the office for a couple of weeks, and since no mail is opened during my absence, your letter could not be taken care of until my return.
As a result of the publication of There is a River, along with several newspaper and magazine articles, the demand for readings has become so great that it is now impossible to give an appointment for at least one year from the date of membership.
As you probably already know, it is legally required that readings be given only to members of the association. The application blanks for membership are contained in the booklet, “Life and Work of Edgar Cayce,” which is being sent to you this date under separate cover.
If you would like to be put on the waiting list, you must send in the application blanks in order to get an appointment. It is not necessary that the membership fee be sent in at this time.
Thank you for your letter, and hoping to be the means of a service, I remain
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/gm
R3. 5/26/56 Husband [2379]‘s letter to GD: ”…So far as Mrs. [2974] is concerned, her reading was made during the war when we lived in N.C. It was difficult to get to Dr. White in Charlotte - 75 miles away - although the treatments given were we believe helpful. I believe the suggested treatments would still relieve the problem (circulatory) which is still present, but have been unable to ‘sell’ the idea to her.”
