GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions; also suggestions for help and relief of this body, answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2979].
-
As we find, while the disturbances have much the appearance of that for which the applications have been made for the body, it is not a true form of arthritis.
-
True, the chemical forces of the body are forming the congealing forces, but these have been the result rather of retardments through the assimilating system. And this has brought about this form of static circulation through the lower portion of the spine, through the locomotories, and the change in the conditions in the lower extremities.
-
These have naturally slowed up the eliminations, and thus cause a great deal of disturbance in this way and manner.
-
We find that these conditions may be materially aided. As to whether these may be entirely eliminated or not will depend much upon the manner in which the administrations may be made for a helpful influence, as well as upon the attitude of those making the application, and the attitude of the body itself.
-
For, in bringing healing to bodies, not only must the pathological condition be considered but the chemical reactions, the eliminations, and the stimuli to aid in the activity of the distribution of assimilation; as well as the psychological effect as may be created in the mind - and thus the expectancies and activities of the body-forces.
-
These, we find, will necessitate changes being made from time to time, as there are the varying conditions from the responses being made.
-
But if these will be applied in the beginning we find that these should bring relief, and gradually a greater helpful influence in the body.
-
Then after thirty to sixty days the changes will be necessary in the applications for the body, to produce the better conditions as they change in the body.
-
First, then, we would begin with applying twice each day, for at least an hour, the Epsom Salts Packs - two or three thicknesses of heavy toweling wrung out of a thoroughly saturated solution of Epsom Salts - over the lumbar and sacral area. Apply these as hot as the body can well stand; not so hot as to cause irritation to the body, but apply - and then put the electric pad on same, to drive in these properties. After the Pack has crystallized, or dried, then remove - and massage the area with a combination of an ounce of Peanut Oil and two drops of Oil of Pine Needles (well mixed). Have prepared some four, six to eight to ten ounces of the solution, but in these proportions, and shake well each time before it is massaged into the body. As soon as the Packs are removed, massage this solution into the body, the spine and the sacral area - all the body will absorb.
-
Then place a light cloth, - that is, one thickness of toweling, - saturated with the Epsom Salts Solution, warm - not too hot - over the area and let it remain for a few minutes.
-
When this is taken off, sponge the body off well, and keep a warm flannel cloth over the area as the body rests through the day - or through the night.
-
Follow this whole procedure when the body is ready for rest or bed at night, and when it is prepared to arise or be put in the chair or place of activity for the day.
-
Do this, - daily, - for at least forty-five days. then we will give further instructions for the changes that will be needed.
-
As to the diet throughout the period, - keep almost all salt from the body. Little or no salt should be prepared in the foods; only sufficient just to be palatable, but little salt.
-
Beets, beet tops, carrots, those forms of vegetables, - all forms of artichoke, as soon as practical, - should be parts of the diet.
-
Do not eat peanuts. But do use the oil of the peanuts, as indicated, in the massage for the body.
-
DO eat almond nuts when practical; even almond meal - as a bread or cakes made of same - would be well for the body; also rice cakes, buckwheat cakes, and these with a little honey. No other forms of sweets should be taken.
-
Vegetable broths, and PLENTY of sea foods; various characters and kinds, mixed, at least three times each week for the entity - and keep this up through the periods of these applications suggested.
-
Don’t overexert the body in trying to make it walk, but just sufficient exercise not to become too static in the activities.
-
Do keep eliminations well. Rather than too much cathartics, give colonic irrigations.
-
But the foods, too, will change the tendency of the eliminations. If the body can take them, have plenty of onions, garlic and the like in the diet - but these mostly fresh, rather than the old.
-
These we would do, and - in forty-five days - we will give the further instructions, if desired.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should present treatments be discontinued while these instructions are being followed? (A) As we find, these would interfere with those. The choice must be made by the entity and those responsible for same.
-
We are through for the present.

R2. 9/21/44 [2979]‘s husband’s response: Please accept my resignation from the Association.
R3. 5/15/54 Notation by IMG: George Owen from …, N.Y. was browsing in the library. In the course of conversation he told me that a friend of his - or an acquaintance, Mr. […] [[2979]‘s husband] had gotten a reading for his wife, but that the medicine had done his wife no good, so Mr. […] told Mr. Owen. I allowed him to see the reading (since he knew the people) and he was amused to note that no … medicine was given - and also that there was no follow through as suggested in the reading.

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,-
I thank you for yours of the 3rd. acknowledging my application of the April 1st. It will be quite satisfactory to set the period for April 24, 10.30 to 11.30 A.M.
Mrs. [2979], my wife, has been ill with arthritis, lower part of the spine, for over a year. Was in the hospital June and part of July last year, was bedridded for four months, in December could get out of bed with quite pain, now is a little better but cannot stay on her feet for more than 3/4 to an hour; she cannot lift anything or make any outward-reaching motion without bringing on the pains in her back. She uses an electric pad applied to the small of her back, and that helps for a while. Her weight was 153 and now it is about 120.
As to questions, what can be done to get her free from this arthritis? Free from the pain that comes upon any little exertion. We have tried doctors. The present doctor is now treating her, but says all he can do is to reduce the amount of the pain; that she will always have this trouble, and must resign herself to be an invalid the rest of her life. She is 73 years of age, and before this arthritis came was in good health, except for neuralgia and migraine in the head.
Our doctor attended a special clinic for arthritis in New York recently, and is now giving her 10 drops of Iodide-compound once a day, which seems to help. The hot electric pad seems to give her great relief, i.e. reduces the extreme pain but the dull pain continues.
I trust I have given you a clear description of the situation, and I believe you can help her.
Thank you for your kind inquiry.
Very sincerely,
