GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [2989].
-
As we find, the vitality and resistance is low with this body. A great deal of this is psychological, but with the age, with the conditions of attitudes, not a great deal may be added that will be of any material aid.
-
While the vitalities are so low, we find that the administration of pure beef juice as medicine would be most beneficial; given about half to three-quarters of a teaspoonful three to four times each day. This would be most helpful. We find that this will assimilate well and will add to the strength of the body.
-
Occasionally, - about every two or three days, - after an unusually heavy meal is eaten, - take internally half a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth and ten drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin, stirred together in half a glass of water. This will be most helpful.
-
A daily massage with peanut oil along the spine, especially across the hips and sacral areas, - when the body is prepared for bed, - will make an easier rest for the body. Pour a small quantity in an open saucer, dip the fingers in same and massage all the body will absorb along the spine, and especially over the sacral and lumbar areas.
-
Keep in the open when at all practical, though do not let the body get chilled nor too much in strong breezes or winds - unless wrapped up well.
-
Doing these, with the general precautions, will contribute the more to the better welfare of this body, [2989] in the present.
-
(Q) What is it that keeps him so much below par that he has no strength? (A) The lack of the vitality and proper assimilation. Hence those suggestions for properties to take that will aid in better assimilation, given occasionally, see? and the beef juice regularly to give strength. For it is already practically digested; and we do not mean broth, but the pure beef juice.
-
(Q) Why does he walk with such difficulty? (A) Lack of strength and vitality through the locomotories. Thus the daily massage with the peanut oil.
Do these and we will make the better conditions for this body.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 5/15/43 Wife’s ltr. to EC:
…, Conn.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research & Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Virginia
My dear Mr. Cayce:
I want to thank you for your reading on Friday, May 7th, for my husband, I decided to tell Mr. [2989] about the reading, and we kept the hour in quiet and prayer.
Of course I realized that, at Mr. [2989]‘s age, not so much could be done as could have been had he been younger. And one thing for which I was grateful is, that the directions are so simple that I can easily follow them, whether I am here or in New Hampshire.
I am following the directions with the utmost care, and I believe we shall get results.
I am a believer in spiritual healing, and have been since I was first healed in 1893. And in 1909, when our baby daughter was desperately ill, I realized that, had my faith been stronger, she might not have had to go through that terrible illness, when, I believe, that I was only one who thought she would live. In 1910 a small group of us who were interested, had a teacher come down from Chicago, and this class continued to meet in my living-room, until we moved to the Highlands in Louisville, which was too far away for most of the class, and we hired a room down town, and a leader, Mrs. Rebecca Allen. This was, I believe, the first Unity Center in Louisville.
I have often asked for healing for Mr. […] and have wondered why he did not get better results. I believe the reason is that he wants to do his own thinking, and will not let a healer get into his subconscious, even though he asks for it.
I just wanted you to know that we are in sympathy with the spiritual part of the healing, for many times, when I was more closely associated with the work, he would ask me to go to someone who needed healing, for he thought I could help them.
I was interested in your suggestion that it was largely “Psychological” for I have long thought this. He has a way of side-stepping issues, and this, I think has contributed largely to his nervousness, for, anything that we dread, we must meet or it will conquor us. At any rate, I wondered if, later, it would be wise for him to have one of the other READINGS.
He is doing well now, and is truly trying to do his part toward getting well. He is now getting up every day - two or three times has taken his bath and dressed without calling for me to help him, and has been out in the sun whenever the weather was warm enough. I truly believe he is trying.
We have weighed him, and he now weighs 112 lbs. He weighed 110 before he went into the hospital in January, (Jan. 8) and I am sure he must have lost a good deal in the many weeks he was ill. Of course, just now, he has the stimulus of his desire to be well enough to go up to New Hampshire.
I will write to you from time to time as to his progress. Do not be afraid, I will not write a long letter like this, but I wanted you to understand conditions.
I have sent for the book A SEARCH FOR GOD and shall read it with interest.
With all good wishes for your work, I am
Gratefully yours, Mrs. […]
R2. 11/4/43 She requested Life Readings for her grandchildren, all seven of them, but EC was a year in advance with appointments and did not want to schedule them.
Background
Background
B1. 4/30/43 (First Physical) Wife submitted questions, saying: “Mr. [2989] has never been strong, and I have felt that the doctors were never sure what the vital difficulty was.”
- What is it that keeps him so much below par that he has no strength? and what can I do or have done for him to make him stronger?
- Why is he so thin? He is six feet one inch tall and weighs now less than 100 pounds. We feed him carefully and well, and he eats pretty well, but he losses strength and weight, instead of gaining.
- Is there something radically wrong with his metabolism? and what can be done about it?
- Why is it that every little thing utterly exhausts him?
- Why does he walk with such difficulty, needing not only his cane but my arm, or some other support? I shall be glad to have minute directions as I shall have to do most of the things for him myself. There is an exceedingly good osteopath in (seven miles away) who has the heat machines, including, I think, the Abrams machine.
