This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of May, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3005], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2946].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mrs. [3005] and friend, Mrs. [3008].]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ill.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body, answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3005], present in this room.
-
As we find, there are conditions that are preventing the better physical functioning through the body.
-
The causes and the sources of the disturbance, we find, are far from the effect produced in the body.
-
This as we find arose in times back, from an unbalancing of the chemical forces of the body in the assimilating conditions; allowing the arterial bodies to become involved, as to allow seepages. Hence incoordination has been produced along centers in the spinal system, in the ganglia of the sympathetic and the voluntary and involuntary nerve reactions.
-
Thus the nerve flexes that should be controlled by sympathetic ganglia become involuntary; and thus the condition in the right portion of the body, especially, - the arm, the limbs.
-
There is NOT, as we find, any brain lesion, but rather the ganglia in the areas that control the locomotory flexes.
-
Thus there are periods, - as when at rest, as when at ease, - when this involuntary reflex does NOT occur.
-
These, then, in their reactions, are the deflection of control of nerve forces that direct the activity of the ganglia between cerebrospinal and sympathetic nervous system.
-
The areas where the pressures occur in the present are in portions of the lumbar axis, that control those flexes from the knee and thigh; while those in the upper area - in the 6th to the 4th dorsal - control the activities to the arm and muscular forces.
-
To be sure, there are deflections also through other areas.
-
We find that these may be materially aided, if there is the consistent and the persistent application of those influences which as we find may bring the balance in the chemical forces of the assimilating system, as well as controlling those damages already done to the ganglia and nerve plexus.
-
So, each phase of this should be taken into consideration when applications are made for betterment of the condition with this body.
-
We would have - daily, preferably when the body is ready to retire - a gentle massage along either side of the cerebrospinal system with a combination of (these proportions) two ounces of Peanut Oil and a quarter teaspoonful of dissolved Lanolin. At each period massage into the body all that it will absorb.
-
At least every other day include in the massage the brachial center, and across to the shoulders, and up to the point of the shoulder blade, and in the LUMBAR center - entirely across the upper portion of the hip bones, and down the sciatic nerve. When massaging the arm, extend along the inside of the arm, and especially to the centers inside of the elbow.
-
This should not be done just to be gotten through with, but gently, firmly, EXPECTING and giving the best in the application of self while the oils are being massaged into the body.
-
We would take internally small quantities of Chloride of Gold. To be sure, this is poison - but in the quantity indicated here, and in the manner taken, it should build with the assimilating system sufficient of the stamina in nerve and nerve plexus to control the activities of same. Take in very small quantities, not too often, but in this manner; preparing two solutions:
-
Add one grain Chloride of Gold to one ounce of distilled water. This would be one solution.
-
Add two grains of Bromide of Soda to one ounce of distilled water. This would be the other solution.
-
Keep these separate until the dosage is to be taken. Then:
-
Every other day, at bedtime, take one drop of the Gold Solution and two drops of the Soda Solution, in half a glass of water.
-
Keep this up at least until there is indication of the improvement, or until necessary for further directions.
-
As the body gains the better use, loses those tendencies for the inability to control the muscular centers, then these properties would be gradually diminished and left off entirely.
-
As to the diet:
-
Include each day SOME form or manner of sea foods.
-
Do include often - three or four times a week - beets and carrots. Prepare these in varied manners, all save with any vinegar or acid with same. The carrots may be eaten cooked and raw. Cook the beets and eat the tops cooked with same.
-
These, combined with regular foods, and most of the vegetables, fruits and the like.
-
And we will find that if these are applied - together - beneficial results will come to this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How can I change my mode of living to be stronger and more helpful to my family? (A) As the disorder and disturbance has caused the greater part of the changes in the present, we find that as conditions improve, and as the opportunities are given, the body may apply self in those directions that are given from time to time.
For, each entity should be a channel of blessing and of helpfulness to others.
Little has been given here as to the attitude, for this special reason; for the body in itself as to its mental attitude is well. For, to be of help to others is the ideal of the entity. Keep that. Never as of a self glory, but to the glory of the Son in the Father, and to the honor of self.
-
(Q) What have I done, or what thoughts have I had, to cause this thing to happen? (A) As indicated, this rather from the lack of keeping the proper chemical balance in the system; and has caused - through the assimilating system - a thinning of the walls, and that has caused a strain on the nerve ganglia, broken tissue. Hence the need of the massage daily, in the manner indicated.
-
(Q) Do the organs of the body function correctly? (A) Save as indicated, as related to liver. As we find, these will be altered by the change in diet and by the change in the chemical forces needed in the system.
Do that, and we will find bettered conditions for this body.
-
(Q) When you say sea foods, do you mean salt water or fresh water? (A) Salt water, not fresh water fish. It is the iodine that is needed in the body, WITH the gold. This is better than being taken even in the form of non-poisonous iodine. If the fish or sea food disagrees, we would change - but these as we find, if prepared properly, will agree - not fresh water but salt water fish.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. Remarks after reading: “So logical, so true. Doctors said it was caused either from flu or a brain tumor. No tumor has been found and I’ve never had flu. Tremor in hands and limbs has been gradually coming on for the last eight to ten years.
R2. 7/19/43 [3005]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I am writing to ask you if I am doing exactly what your reading means for me to do. A masseuse gives me a thorough treatment from head to toe including the spine, using peanut oil. I did not know what “dissolved Lanolin” is. I asked the druggist and he asked “Dissolved in what?” The masseuse is a gift from heaven - interested, kind, skillful and wishes to follow instructions.
Is it your plan that I discontinue using the remedies I formerly used? I did that for a while, and became so helpless that I had to begin it again.
Looking into the future, the reading says “As the body gains better use, loses those tendencies for the inability to control the muscular centers, then these properties would be diminished and left off entirely.” Does this mean for me to use my own judgement, or to ask for further guidance from you?
My daughter [3474] is looking forward with eagerness to her reading on September 6th. I do not remember whether it is to be morning or afternoon - morning, I believe. She will send some questions ahead of time.
My visit to you at Virginia Beach is one of the most memorable few days in my life. It seems to have been on a different plane. How I wish we might have been there to the Conference!!
It is with reluctance that I interrupt the marvels you are creating daily, for this correspondence. But it seems to me necessary if I am to receive full benefit from my reading. With affectionate greetings to you and your household,
Sincerely, [3005]
R3. 7/24/43 EC’s letter to [3005]:
Mrs. [3005] …, Ill.
Dear Mrs. [3005]
Thanks for yours of the 19th, have thought of you many times since we had the pleasure of meeting you, with the other good ladies, wondered just how you were getting along.
Yes, sounds as if you were doing just as the suggestion was given. Dissolve the lanolin; you see the Oil - peanut oil is fluid - lanolin is usually more like an ointment, it means only to heat lanolin until it is fluid, that it may more easily mix with the oil - that is all.
Oh no, use those remedies that you are using until with the added help you can gradually discontinue the use of the others.
Hope we may be the means of a real help for your Daughter [3474] - has she sent the information necessary for the reading - you have the booklet and the Life Reading data haven’t you? It is the afternoon of the 6th of Sept. 3.30 to 4.30 E.W.T.
Oh I do wish you might have been here for the meetings, they were very, very nice, was the best [Congress] we ever had.
Do hope you are feeling better and are beginning to see some help. Do write us when you have the opportunity; know we are anxious to help if we can. With every good wish from each one here.
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce

Mr. Harmon Bro c/o Edgar Cayce Arctic Circle Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Bro:
Your mother, Mrs. M. Bro, was in today and I am glad to report that she is progressing very well.
We were discussing cases, and I asked if she knew if you had any information regarding the treatment of Paralysis Agitans. She was certain that you did. I would appreciate very much your compiling this for me.
I would also like information regarding a membership or associate membership in the Association.
Thank you.
Yours very truly, [signed] Dr. D. A. Musselman [DAM:JB]
R5. 12/28/43 Harmon Bro’s letter to Dr. Musselman:
Dr. D. A. Musselman 58 East Washington Street, Chicago, Illinois
Dear Dr. Musselman:
At last you get action on your request of November 12th! We are sending you material on Paralysis Agitans. None of it was complied, but a couple of us just gambled on you and took most of a day to collect it and type it up. One copy we are keeping for our physical extracts, which is why you get the carbons.
It’s a headache to us to know how best to help you out. We thought you’d rather have the complete readings than our attempt to brief them. Some comments from letters have been included, but no complete case histories - such as I would want if I were in your place. Case histories is something we haven’t got, to any significant extent. I suppose through the years the people who have carried on the work here have been so convinced of the value of the readings that they haven’t felt a need to check up on how it worked. There are more cases of Agitans, but to get at these, as well as to get the most out of those we have sent you, you would almost have to come down here. Or send some doctor from nearby whose judgement you trust, to study over these cases.
When my mother was here we took a reading to find out just what responsibility those of us on the staff should feel about getting out materials on diseases, on top of everything else we’re trying to do. The answer is in the materials I’m sending you - we’re trying to steer by it. For people suffering with various diseases we’re preparing briefs of physical cases, hoping to photostat these and send them out of those who need the suggestions and can’t get a reading immediately. But for doctors who want to really STUDY the ailment and its treatment, I guess the best we can do is offer our files. None of us are trained to digest this material properly. (Besides, there are no cards made on Agitans yet!)
There’s a reason for that, too. We feel that this work is primarily religious, in that the purpose of every reading is to orient an individual’s life towards the very best he can do or be. Physical readings are only one step in that direction. Even they are often spiritual, as in the enclosed reading 1555-2! So we’re putting our best licks on that aspect of the work and leaving the research on specific diseases to those trained and serving in that way.
Do let us know how best we can help you. We could hire someone just to sit down and copy readings for you, if the material should prove that helpful, but we have nobody who can do that right now.
I am happy to leave my family in your and Dr. Harman’s hands!
Cordially, Harmon H. Bro, Assistant

Ass’n for Research & Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Bro:
Thank you for your most cordial letter [re Chicago meeting & EC work]. I wish I had it at hand but it seems to elude me.
As one who has had a reading, I am, of course, interested. And I should like to enclose check for $5.00 together with a request for any information you may have concerning Parkinson’s.
With kindest personal regards and good wishes to you in this activity, I am
Sincerely, [3005]
R7. 11/30/45 Harmon Bro’s letter to [3005]:
Dear Mrs. [3005]
It was nice to receive your encouraging note and your gift. Gladys has asked me to enclose your membership card in this note which I wanted to write you.
June went to work and copied out some readings on conditions that either were or seemed similar to Parkinson’s Disease. You will find that none of them are directly parallel to your case, although each has some factor that parallel’s some factor in your case.
As I understand it, your reading explains that from combinations of foods that chemical balance in your body was upset some time ago. As the arteries carried foods around for the body to assimilate, a thinning of their walls resulted, and then seepages. The pressure from fluid which has thus leaked - blood, I suppose - has affected regular nerve ganglia in certain areas along the spine, especially those of the right side. Possibly those delicate emunctory patches of which science seems to know so little - patches that connect the two nervous systems - have also been affected by these seepages.
At any rate it is suggested that the arteries be built up again by those wonderful nourishing foods for tissue, peanut oil and lanolin. The act areas which need it most are given.
And then the nerves - the plexuses and the ganglia which have deteriorated from the pressure upon them - need to be rebuilt. It is generally accepted that nerve tissue is built of gold and silver, etc. In your case the gold is given directly, the iodine is given in sea food, and the other elements are either supplied or have their “makings” supplied in the Bromide of Soda.
The beets and carrots supply the chemical balance which threw you off in the first place. My mother was also given beets for a condition that started as chemical unbalance.
The folks down here are anxious to co-operate with you. Perhaps the best way for you to help them to do so would be to send them in a report. Tell us just how much you have been able to get the massages suggested, with the help of the fine masseur you seem to have found. Did he work with the specific areas, did he use the oils, did you participate expectantly, what results, etc?
How long did you take the gold and soda? Have you been able to eat sea foods daily? What about the beets and carrots?
Exactly what is your present condition?
We sent copies of all these readings which we are sending you, to Dr. David Musselman, Mrs. [3006]‘s osteopath in downtown Chicago. He is making a special study of Parkinson’s disease, though not in any thorough way. It wouldn’t hurt to take your reading to him with these, and talk it over with him. Let us have from him a description of your condition and a statement of his prognosis, or whatever it is a doctor says about what should be done or hasn’t been done or can’t be done or is being done.
Then if you care to send these comments to Gladys Davis and ask what you expect to do next, referring to this letter, she will look up whatever further material she can find and will make suggestions.
We have more material on Parkinson’s disease. If you are interested after reading the sketchy items we have sent, I can tip you off how to get more! Tell her I said to look in “Mae’s briefing of drawers A through F”. And it wouldn’t hurt to approach the matter as you did this time.
With Hugh Lynn’s return and the cutting of the staff to a minimum - June and I are having to leave - there isn’t much help in the office to work on things that are so badly needed. Yet the spirit is still here. Gladys wants to help you, and I’m sure Hugh Lynn does. I am anxious to do whatever I can even though I will not be at Virginia Beach. If we have our index of the readings I could walk into the vault right now and pull out perhaps three dozen cases of Parkinson’s Disease and have them prepared for you. But all in the good Lord’s due time, I guess!!
Thanks again for your interest and don’t quit trying to get help down here. The help is here. Just be persistent.
I was thrilled to read the lovely statement of your inner purposes that was given by your reading. Makes me proud to know you.
Address your next letter to Gladys. I’ll be gone.

Dear Miss Turner:
I am at the present time reviewing all of the Parkinson’s Disease readings with the aim of producing a commentary and possibly a workbook on them, and in the process I came across the enclosed material. You will see on page four of reading 3005-1 there was the question asked on what causes her Parkinson’s Disease and the answer indicating that the problem was due to an assimilation problem within the walls of the bowel. I’ve checked this of course with Dr. Bill McGarey who agrees with me that this is the proper interpretation, as has been mentioned in causes of the other disorders.
You will note on page 10 [Par. R7 above], Harmon Bro’s letter indicates that his interpretation was that this was due to a thinning of the walls of the blood vessels.
We believe that this is in error and we submit this information to you for your decision on the best way to modify it. Of course if you wish to discuss this further, please address me at the Clinic.
Sincerely yours, [signed] Bruce Duffy, D.O. [B/j]
R9. 9/20/76 GDT’s letter to Dr. Bruce Duffy and Dr. Wm. A McGarey:
Of course you are right that reading 3005-1 was talking about the thinning of the walls of the intestines, as mentioned in so many other readings (especially cases of psoriasis, for instance). I am adding your letter to Case 3005-1, page 12, to counteract Harmon Bro’s wrong interpretation. (He was only 23 at the time, AND a layman, trying to explain the reading to Mrs. [3005] who was a friend of his mother’s). By the way, the readings we collected for her were without background correspondence, etc., etc. HHB’s letter shows the time we were having.
